We met for lunch on a Sunday afternoon. I had warned my fellow diners that we are going for the food and not the service due to some of the warnings on Yelp, but from the time we arrived until we left, I am happy to say, it was quite the contrary! Service was immediate and attentive. A very nice young man delivered menus, tea, water and a carafe of water to our table. You have a choice of ordering on a tablet at the table or the server also came by to ask if he could take our order. Ordering on the tablet was super easy and straight forward. We ordered gyoza as an appetizer, one chirashi (sushi rice with fresh fish on top), and three of us ordered the 2-item bento: Teriyaki salmon & tempura Chicken katsu & shio saba Bulgogi & spicy tuna roll The bentos come with a nice miso soup and salad. They do offer a wide variety of rolls as well as an assortment of side dishes and salads. There is a robot that comes around to deliver food to the tables. Our server delivered the soup and salad to us personally. The robot delivered our main meals but our nice server walked to our table and took them from the robot and delivered them to each of us. Again, a very thoughtful touch. Our food was paced well and our server came to replace our carafe of water with a full one without having to ask. I heard the bulgogi was a bit on the sweeter side and the chirashi had a beautiful assortment of seafood. We enjoyed trying a new place and would definitely come back. There is a beautiful huge screen with an ocean channel playing on the far wall. I loved watching all the sea life in their natural habitat. Parking is easy shared with other businesses. Its about time I leave a review for this place. This is hands down my fav sushi restaurant in Petaluma, most dont know it exists because of the location. I drove by many times before finally stopping in to try it. I live in the neighborhood so I figured why not give it a shot. I love the sushi here and the fact they only use real crab was a big selling point for me. The food is always great. I havent had one thing I didnt like. The reason I am not giving five stars is because the owner will not fire that rude waitress who works there!!! I have called only after she was rude to us like a handful of times!!! She literally hates her job clearly, she sits on her phone and has a dead look in her eyes. It is beyond unwelcoming, I only go for the food lol. She hates us I swear because we have come in a couple times at 8:30, they close at 9 btw. She will walk up and tell us we close at nine as we are finishing our meal, she never takes our plates and purposely ignores us when we need anything. Its awful! Just bringing some awareness because her behavior is totally unacceptable. Who leaves their text notifications on full blast while on the job as a waitress?! Went to dinner here, it was delicious! The fish is sooooo fresh and has great flavor. I got sashimi and it was great! I had the tuna and salmon. I also got the salmon king roll and that had crab in it. It's a decent size roll and super flavorful! I will definitely be coming back. I love that you can order on the tablet. Ok, I've been here multiple times and each time it gets worse. This place was phenomenal in the beginning. The waitress that is always here, can never answers anyone's questions about the menu, and the food has been terrible lately. My daughter ordered sashimi and two of her pieces had rough skin on the edges and a couple scales. She had to pull the rough edges off. My roll had so many crumbs on it, it was hard to eat. Ready to celebrate my daughter's graduation we wanted to get sushi for dinner. Our regular and favorite spot in Petaluma is now closed so we looked for a new option. Sushi Luma had good reviews so we decided to try it. We ordered online for pickup. The restaurant was in a good location and the ambiance was nice. The staff was friendly. The food unfortunately was not good. We ordered the yakito momo, sushi rice, house salad, rainbow roll, tuna roll, and salmon salsa roll. The rainbow roll was awful. It was imitation crab and had some disgusting sauce on it. I do not eat sushi with sauces or imitation crab because I have a gluten intolerance so could not even eat it. It was way over priced for the rainbow roll with fake crab that went straight into the garbage. The salmon salsa roll was missing the tobiko. The yakito momo had a lot of fat. The house salad dressing was not good. The sushi rice was not sticky. The tuna roll was the only thing we ordered that came as expected. I would go here again. We have some decent...and a few underwhelming Japanese restaurants in Marin, but a friend recommended this spot, and I'm really glad I followed through. The ambiance is simple, clean, and welcoming. It's not flashy or overly decorative, yet the quality and variety of the food are genuinely impressive, better than several overpriced places around the Bay Area. The presentation alone makes you feel like you're dining somewhere far more upscale. We thoroughly enjoyed the raw oysters and the uni (which I always order when it's in season, you can tell a lot about a restaurant by how they handle their uni). It was fresh, beautifully balanced, and absolutely delicious. The lemon scallops were bright and well-executed. No imitation crab here, only real crab meat which makes such a difference. Even the soup and salad exceeded expectations. The dressing tasted house-made, with a subtle hint of wasabi, thoughtful and clearly prepared with care. The sashimi cuts were generous and beautifully prepared, especially considering the pricing. It's been a long time since I've walked out of a restaurant feeling like I underpaid for the quality we received. Petaluma sushi lovers, you're lucky to have Sushi Luma in your community. Came here this afternoon and was blown away by how good the food was. The nigiri and all of the rolls were delicious and fresh, the entire menu also seemed very innovative, they have a lot of items I don't see at other sushi restaurants. Amaebi they didn't provide the miso soup the second time around with the amaebi order. Scallops, ikura & sake salmon sashimi are my favorites. I wish that they have ikura as an extra side order on the menu. It would have went well with the salmon sashimi or nigiri. They have it in the chef's choice sashimi order, but one doesn't know if one will get it or not. I guess you would have to call or ask them when dining to get the ikura specifically. Plenty of to-go bags on the end of the counter too! We ordered a caterpillar roll and their version of a rock 'n' roll and had a couple of Hamachi hand rolls--my favorite. note these are not on the menu, but they will make whatever you want in a hand roll). Everything was excellent, Service was attentive and fast, including a robot server! Ambience is clean and spacious, comfortable for families. Distant, mellow Japanese music and an awesome tri-screen at one end of the wall to keep humans entertained. On top of that, menus had images for every single food offering - - a very good idea! I got the crunch roll and the crunchies were soggy and not fresh/crunchy and the rice was more on the mushy side for my rolls. The service was terrible as well too. There were black pieces of something floating in my water and then I asked the server for another water because there were black pieces which I wasn't sure what they were.She looked in the water cup, grabbed both cups and went in the back without even apologizing or saying anything. She also didn't even bother to take any plates which we were done with and only checked in with us to take the check. The restaurant wasn't busy as we were 1 of 2 tables when we went to eat. I was thrifting and got hungry and this was the closest sushi place. I went without expectations and it was a five star early solo dinner. I got a beer, a roll, ikura nigiri and a hand roll. I was a little too full when I left (not complaining) and everything was fresh and delicious. The service robot was cute. I've been to bigger places with those autonomous trays on wheels before so it wasn't a big deal but I'm sure the kids love it. In fact there were several families with babies there late afternoon. My one suggestion is more time spent on decor. Make people forget they're in a mall and this could be a great rotating date night place. The quality is there. I'll take pics next time. read more

What a great find in an unsuspecting shopping center on the edge of Petaluma! I came back within a month of my first visit, and foresee frequenting this hidden gem. The space is clean and bright with a good sized sushi bar and modest dining room. They have a few large TVs as well. The robot server is a fun experience! They have an incredible take on lemon dill salmon prepared nigiri style with salmon belly -- oh my goodness, what a perfect bite! It's the French-Japanese fusion I didn't know I needed! The sushi rice is cooked to perfection, and rolls never fall apart. They've got most of the usual suspects on the menu, and prices are pretty standard $12-18 a roll. All the other items we've had have been excellent and I'm definitely looking forward to trying a bento box in the future. Plenty of parking and gender neutral restrooms. The only thing holding me back from a full 5er is the service could be a little more consistent/attentive towards the latter part of the meal. We needed refills and would have ordered more, but nobody checked in on us for a while. read more
