GoHan Sushi has quickly become our family's go-to spot, and honestly, that's saying something. All three of my kids have recently "discovered" sushi--and apparently developed very expensive taste overnight. As a parent of teenage boys who can put away serious amounts of food, I'm not sure whether to thank GoHan or blame them... but here we are. That said, the quality makes it completely worth it. The fish is incredibly fresh, and the rolls are outstanding. Our go-to favorites have been the 'My Hot Valentine' and 'Rainbow Roll' both are consistently excellent and seem to disappear from the table in about 30 seconds. The staff is always friendly and welcoming, and they've made it easy (and fun) for our whole family--even the newer sushi eaters--to find things they love. It's become one of those places where everyone is happy, which is no small feat. If you're in Petaluma and want consistently great sushi in a relaxed, family-friendly setting, this place absolutely delivers. I live so close to this restaurant yet had never visited before. I'm happy I did tonight. We had a really nice experience dining there. We were greeted warmly and able to choose where we wished to be seated. The interior is bright and designed nicely. Our server was extremely warm and efficient. My friend and I split a dinner order- we were quite pleased with having our meal entirely spilt (including the rice & miso soup). Our veggie and shrimp tempura had such a nice light and crisp batter on it. The miso soup was just the way I like it - some tasty and interesting mushrooms were also in the soup. The attractive interior has Japanese paintings throughout, created by the owner's We each order the Sashimi and Nigiri Bento Box ($23). It's more food than I can comfortably eat, yet somehow I succeed. It comes with delicious miso soup, rice, crisp tempura vegetables with hot dipping sauce, 4 each of assorted sashimi and nigiri. The Sashimi was exceptionally fresh. The salmon belly was like butter. Very happy with the food quality. The salmon skin handroll was almost too beautiful to eat. Also highly recommend the Chicken Karaage. The batter was light and the portion size was generous. The spicy mayo dipping sauce was delicious. Disappointed they were all out of Ikura, my favorite. Our only complaint was Service was a bit slow and uneven. The restaurant was only half full but there were constant take out orders that distracted our server and kept him scampering between the kitchen and the door, so we were left waiting for service a few times. Well two times now tried to go for lunch but were turned away. First time my wife and daughter went for lunch and were told they were not taking anymore customers so they left. Now the three of us met there about 1:30. So 2 people enter the restaurant we went next door to do some banking. As we walked in we noticed that the people were still waiting to be seated and figured a little busy must be good food as we looked around you see at least 5 empty tables that had not been bused sitting there with dirty dishes and food as you look you see only one lady serving the whole restaurant after about 5 minutes she came up to say they are not taking anymore customers now this is at 1:30 with a big sign saying now open for lunch. The thing is are daughter is disabled and it takes some doing to get unloaded and in the restaurant then to be told to go away. I think they need to figure it out and hire more people even if you get seats the service is god awful slow and Luke warm if your lucky. So if you want to take a chance and get seats and look at someone's left over food and dishes sitting next to you good luck this was our last attempt read more

The way he slices Sashimi and other fresh food are not like any other chef I have seen in America. I would call him Sushi Artist!! When you visit this restaurant next time , pay attention to the presentation on the color and pattern of the Sashimi from his knife work. The cutting direction that chef slices into the fish meat is definitely affecting the flavor of the meat because where the meat muscle was located. We were frequent visitors to Gohan when we lived in the area. The food was stellar back then. It is good now, but not as flavorful as we remember it. We always order rolls, when our non-sushi eaters are with their dish of choice was always the chicken teriyaki. We started off with the Carburetor, Brooklyn, Crouching Tiger, Hula Girl and Spicy Tuna rolls. The Crouching Tiger was definitely the most flavorful of the bunch. I noticed a specials board after we ordered, so decided to ordered a Four Towers roll. Our waiter said it was their biggest roll. Yes, it is and very flavorful. I really wanted to like this place. It's close to my house and Japanese food is my favorite. This location is in a mini mall but it's not busy at all. There's always easy parking. This shop is unfortunately close to a smelly dumpster but you don't smell it once inside. The ambience is maybe a 7/10. It's nice, but casual dining. I went looking for ramen but seeing the limited selection, I decided on chairashi instead. I'm leaving a poor review for this place because I was left waiting at my table for entirely too long. There was only one other table in the place and they already had their food when I arrived. While I was waiting 20 minutes for someone to take my order another table came in, got waters and someone took and entered their orders. I can't speak to the food quality because I left to go eat somewhere else, but the service was pretty garbage. read more
