Gohan Sushi in Petaluma is easily one of my favorite restaurants to go to when I want some fresh, high quality sushi. The service is incredible; our waiter Henry went above and beyond to make sure we had a pleasant visit. I ordered the Ring of Fire Roll and the Four Tower Roll and they were both exceptionally fresh and flavorful. You also cannot forget to save room for dessert because their chocolate lava cake with ice cream is sublime! Also, the place has a really nice vibe. It's laid back, and I heard the owner painted all the paintings herself, which really adds a nice personal touch to the place. Overall it's a local gem and I highly recommend it. So my wife and I drove down to Petaluma because this weekend we wanted to go and see the Peanuts Museum in Santa Rosa, so we decided to stay in Petaluma because a friend of hers told her that we should stay here because it was a safe place. So glad we did. We stayed in the Home2Suites hotel and let me tell you the place is wonderful. Very comfortable bed, and the place was very clean as well. Being that we were hungry, (Had to say something about the Hotel because its close to the Restaurant.) We were going to go to the Mexican Restaurant next door but decided since we were in the mood for Japanese, we came here instead. We walked in and were very warmly greeted and had asked where we wanted to sit. After finding a table we then placed our order for the California Roll and then we drank water. In waiting for our California Roll to come, we then ordered our entrees and we received our Tofu Soup. Let me tell you, I'm not a big fan of Tofu but, this was very delicious. It had the taste of onion soup with little bits of mushrooms and then little bits of tofu as well. Probably about 5 minutes later our entrees came out and my wife ordered the Salmon Teriyaki and I ordered the Chicken Teriyaki and it also came with 2 sides of white rice. Oh yeah, dont let me forget to mention the Spring mix salad w/Cucumbers and some delicious salad dressing. Overall I'm giving this place a 10 and not a 5. My Chicken Teriyaki was delicious, my salad was delicious, my California Roll was delicious. I told my wife after we left "If I didnt leave soon, I'd still keep eating with how delicious everything was." Thank you Gohan for a wonderful dining experience. We found this place on Google with a 4.5-star rating and came for a casual Japanese meal, especially udon like we typically have in Japan. The sushi, salmon over rice, and house salad were not bad. The ramen was salty (but typical for most ramen), but the chashu was just okay. Unfortunately, the udon broth was extremely salty, to the point that the noodles were too salty to eat. I don't feel adding water would help as noodle has been in the water for a while. When we mentioned it, we were told that was the "normal" taste. The staff were very friendly, though. I live so close to this restaurant yet had never visited before. I'm happy I did tonight. We had a really nice experience dining there. We were greeted warmly and able to choose where we wished to be seated. The interior is bright and designed nicely. Our server was extremely warm and efficient. My friend and I split a dinner order- we were quite pleased with having our meal entirely spilt (including the rice & miso soup). Our veggie and shrimp tempura had such a nice light and crisp batter on it. The miso soup was just the way I like it - some tasty and interesting mushrooms were also in the soup. The attractive interior has Japanese paintings throughout, created by the owner's We each order the Sashimi and Nigiri Bento Box ($23). It's more food than I can comfortably eat, yet somehow I succeed. It comes with delicious miso soup, rice, crisp tempura vegetables with hot dipping sauce, 4 each of assorted sashimi and nigiri. Well two times now tried to go for lunch but were turned away. First time my wife and daughter went for lunch and were told they were not taking anymore customers so they left. Now the three of us met there about 1:30. So 2 people enter the restaurant we went next door to do some banking. As we walked in we noticed that the people were still waiting to be seated and figured a little busy must be good food as we looked around you see at least 5 empty tables that had not been bused sitting there with dirty dishes and food as you look you see only one lady serving the whole restaurant after about 5 minutes she came up to say they are not taking anymore customers now this is at 1:30 with a big sign saying now open for lunch. The thing is are daughter is disabled and it takes some doing to get unloaded and in the restaurant then to be told to go away. I think they need to figure it out and hire more people even if you get seats the service is god awful slow and Luke warm if your lucky. So if you want to take a chance and get seats and look at someone's left over food and dishes sitting next to you good luck this was our last attempt read more

We always order rolls, when our non-sushi eaters are with their dish of choice was always the chicken teriyaki. We started off with the Carburetor, Brooklyn, Crouching Tiger, Hula Girl and Spicy Tuna rolls. The Crouching Tiger was definitely the most flavorful of the bunch. I really wanted to like this place. It's close to my house and Japanese food is my favorite. This location is in a mini mall but it's not busy at all. There's always easy parking. This shop is unfortunately close to a smelly dumpster but you don't smell it once inside. The ambience is maybe a 7/10. It's nice, but casual dining. I went looking for ramen but seeing the limited selection, I decided on chairashi instead. I'm leaving a poor review for this place because I was left waiting at my table for entirely too long. There was only one other table in the place and they already had their food when I arrived. While I was waiting 20 minutes for someone to take my order another table came in, got waters and someone took and entered their orders. I can't speak to the food quality because I left to go eat somewhere else, but the service was pretty garbage. read more
