Beef with tofu stir fry
Mandy S.

We love to come to city chopsticks with friends for lunch gatherings. Recently, I was traveling in Asia, and I was hunger for a good bowl of hot and sour soup. After I tried many in Asia, I realize...........City chopsticks has the best hot and sour soup!! City Chopsticks make excellent beef chow fen, beef with tofu, garlic eggplant, and orange chicken! And today, what a nice surprise! On our lunch special, it came with 2 small sesame red bean fried mochi balls! You can only find them in dim sum restaurants in Bay Area. It is so nice that we don't have to drive over 45 minutes to enjoy this Asia street/Din Sum restaurant sweets! Sorry, the photo was 2 months ago, so there was an egg roll in lunch special. So hurry in, see if they are still serving fried mochi ball.

Mongolian beef. Or should I say, peppery onions.
Michelle P.

It feels like this place has dropped on quality in some areas. The Mongolian beef was not great. Meat was tender but way more onions than meat. And the onions were not even cooked enough. Plus the meat is very peppered, doesn't taste so much like Mongolian that the other restaurants around have. The home Kong crispy noodles are great which is why 4 stars. The rest is average.

Honey Walnut Prawns and Sweet & Sour Chicken Lunch Specials

One tip that a lot of people do not know is that most Chinese restaurants will actually offer lunch special pricing even on weekends! A lot of restaurants will only have the lunch specials on weekdays, so my mom and I like to have Chinese foods on the Saturdays we go out. We just stumbled upon City Chopsticks when we were in Petaluma. I got the Honey Walnut Prawns lunch special, and my mom got the Sweet and Sour Chicken. It comes with soup, fried or white rice and an egg roll. The portion size was huge and we both couldn't finish our food. The food tasted fresh and delicious!

I stopped in for a quick lunch in between seeing patients. The lunch special was served quickly. There was an enough food that I was able to have dinner. I had the princess chicken with fried rice. It was quite tasty. The staff were friendly. The place was clean and comfortable

Green bean chicken and vegetable chow .

It's good the green bean chicken and the hot and sour soup were delicious however the vegetable chow main wasn't that good a little chewy and some of it was cold.

The ambiance

This was my first time eating at City Chopsticks. The ambience was very clean and tidy, and the menu selection was good--and reasonably priced for Sonoma County. The servers were all male, which I noticed caused a bit of disturbance with a couple of customers. They were brisk and did not completely understand some of the female customers' requests while also acting more friendly and conversational with male customers. Very odd! Other than these observations, the food was very good, although for the chicken eggplant dish, I asked for "mild" and it still had plenty of pepper flakes on it. Spicy-wise, the dish was tolerable, so I let it go. In traditional style, fortune cookies are served at the end of the meal. These were in plastic pouches, something many Chinese restaurants are moving away from. It would be nice to see City Chopsticks take up this practice. Parking is plentiful as they are located in the Trader Joe's/Raleys/Ross parking lot.

The food is always delicious. The snow peas are my favorite. The honey walnut prawns are my go to and they are a crowd pleaser.

Unfortunately, they don't have any round tables for big groups, but they can accommodate at least groups of 8-10 because they put tables together for us to fit us in. We made a res because of our group size, and we had no issues being seated right away. They serve water vs hot tea, but the water glasses are big and they are constantly refilling! Super good service. We ordered a lot of dishes because we were a group of 8. We called ahead and special ordered jai (also called Buddha's delight) which is a common dish for Chinese new year. It's clear rice noodles with veggies and tofu skin. It was delicious! We also ordered the seafood platter, beef chow fun (small charge for the wide noodles instead of mein), salt and pepper fish, green onion pancake appetizer, Manchurian beef, another veggie platter (I think it was just a deluxe veggie dish), honey walnut prawns, and basil chicken which was not spicy in my opinion. All of the food was good. The Manchurian beef and salt and pepper fish breading was a little thicker than I like but the flavors were delicious. Support local businesses!

I got the pork fried rice, chicken chow mein, broccoli beef and moo shu pork. The moo shu was the standout, with the delicious plum sauce! Yum! Everything was good, the portions were plentiful, and good ratios of protein to veggies.

UPDATE mid-May 2026…read more They've reopened a few days a week due to popular demand! They were focused on their catering for a bit. No hot pot until the winter. Only open on weekends. Lunch is takeout only. Yay! Their bbq pork is their specialty along with other roasted meats.

I totally was that weird kid who ate strange food growing up. I would rather eat lobster or…read moreartichokes than chicken or green beans, and given the choice I'd gladly eat my body weight in dim sum over basically any other food. That hasn't changed at all for me as an adult! In Sonoma county there was really just one place with dim sum, and lots of people wanted more options. I tried other restaurants with their dim sum adjacent menus, but they were pretty mediocre and mostly focused on fried pot stickers or the occasional steamed siu mai. Once I heard fantasy was starting a true dim sum menu, I knew we had to try it. The day we arrived I was solidly in my third trimester of pregnancy and getting around was a chore, but that wasn't going to keep me from dim sum. We were the only guests the whole time on the day we went there, which was weird to me given how good the food ended up being! Service was great, super friendly and just lovely folks. The restaurant was clean and we'll organized, and the menu was a good mix of traditional favorites and some trendy BAO for the insta. We ordered a little of everything , which to me is why dim sum is so fun. Food came out super fast, and we tucked right in. Surprisingly to me, my favorite dish is one hubs picked on a whim, the spicy won tons. The flavors and textures were on point, and even with pregnancy heartburn, the spice on these things was well worth it. Super delicious. I felt the pandan and black sesame bao were overly trendy for my taste, but I'm sure those who are new to dim sum could see these options as easy introduction into the food. Really good experience here with very tasty food, nice people and quality dishes. I'm still getting over the idea of expensive dim sum because of growing up eating it in SF with low costs in a humble setting, but for this overall experience I felt the prices were fine. I will definitely be back, and eager to try the rest of the items on their menu.

However I do agree that even the spicy has a bit of sweet to it. I got the garlic flavor chicken and got a bit of the spicy sauce on the side, but it had a sweet taste to it. I'm more a spicy person v spicy/ sweet flavor. The chicken Sandwhich also was a bit sweet. However the fries are really good. I just wish the spicy sauce was actually spicy with no sweet. I will say I am looking to come back to try their bulgogi fries. They looked pretty good. Service was quick, staff were friendly. There is an option to basically order on a screen but i choose to order with the worker. He was nice and let us browse before ordering. The place is clean, and has a few tables.

The food and service were lovely. When the check came out, there was a 15% service charge added - a first in many years of coming here and not noted on the menu, which I believe is a requirement or you can ask to have the service charge removed. That in itself isn't a huge issue because we would normally tip 20% anyway. The issue is that none of the staff mentioned the service charge and on the credit card receipt, the suggested tips were still the normal amounts of 15%, 20%, and 25%. If you didn't notice the service charge, you'd leave a normal tip on top of it. This feels a bit disingenuous as most places charging a service charge will reduce the suggested tip options to something like 3%, 5%, and 7%. Please review your receipt carefully if you dine here!
