I totally was that weird kid who ate strange food growing up. I would rather eat lobster or artichokes than chicken or green beans, and given the choice I'd gladly eat my body weight in dim sum over basically any other food. That hasn't changed at all for me as an adult! In Sonoma county there was really just one place with dim sum, and lots of people wanted more options. I tried other restaurants with their dim sum adjacent menus, but they were pretty mediocre and mostly focused on fried pot stickers or the occasional steamed siu mai. Once I heard fantasy was starting a true dim sum menu, I knew we had to try it. The day we arrived I was solidly in my third trimester of pregnancy and getting around was a chore, but that wasn't going to keep me from dim sum. We were the only guests the whole time on the day we went there, which was weird to me given how good the food ended up being! Service was great, super friendly and just lovely folks. The restaurant was clean and we'll organized, and the menu was a good mix of traditional favorites and some trendy BAO for the insta. We ordered a little of everything , which to me is why dim sum is so fun. Food came out super fast, and we tucked right in. Surprisingly to me, my favorite dish is one hubs picked on a whim, the spicy won tons. The flavors and textures were on point, and even with pregnancy heartburn, the spice on these things was well worth it. Super delicious. I felt the pandan and black sesame bao were overly trendy for my taste, but I'm sure those who are new to dim sum could see these options as easy introduction into the food. Really good experience here with very tasty food, nice people and quality dishes. I'm still getting over the idea of expensive dim sum because of growing up eating it in SF with low costs in a humble setting, but for this overall experience I felt the prices were fine. I was very surprised by how great this place was as it was not my expectation to find good Chinese food out in Petaluma. However, I was very impressed as the food was exceptional from start to finish. The steamed fish was a standout: perfectly cooked, delicate, and full of fresh, clean flavor. For Cantonese food in Petaluma, this place is pretty legit! They have the BBQ meats hanging and that's when one knows, the Cantonese food will be pretty authentic. Even though it's next to a Quick shop seemingly looking like a 7/11, he interior decor of this restaurant, is well decorated for Chinese new year and clean for the most part. Their roast pork belly is tender and skin is extra crunchy. Do order their Lobster noodles! The lobster is superbly fresh and they even have the tank displaying the seafood! It's delicious and well worth the $30. My husband likes Westlake beef soup and it was on point. Their fresh steamed soy sauce fish was $60 per pound, which is way overpriced. It was probably priced that way because of CNY! We opted to just get their sea bass steamed collar. It was on the chewy side. I would skip it or order it another way like maybe in the clay pot. They have a sport's tv screen playing which helps with the ambiance as well as a screen of food photos next to the entree names, which was helpful! Service was attentive. They charge for tea. One can't be picky since this is the only Cantonese restaurant that is pretty authentic for this neighbor. They even had roast duck, beef stew daikon clay pot, bitter melon entree, bbq pork chopped to order, hot pot and etc. roast duck was a bit overrated. I've had better. I ate there Christmas Day with my daughter. Their food is addicting. Ate here with a friend today. We had sizzling prawns and scallops,steamed sea bass collar and vegetarian chow fun. I recently had my first ever "hot pot" experience at the fantasy restaurant in Petaluma. Not sure what I was waiting for, but we will definitely do it again soon, I hope. Not every Cantonese restaurant is set up for hot pot. It requires built in heating elements within the dining tables. Kind of like fondue, you order the soup base and vegetables and meats that you will then cook yourself in the pot. It might help if you go with somebody that has done it before because I didn't get the indication that the servers would be all that helpful in that regard. I guess that's one reason why I give them four stars and not five. The service wasn't overly friendly in anyway but more like efficient. But really what does that matter when the hot pots themselves are super delicious when combined with the sauce combinations, the fresh ingredients that go into them and the warmth you get all over from having a nice Ramen-like hot pot for lunch or dinner. read more

I actually don't know where to start. It was my dad's birthday, and he told me he wanted Chinese food and wanted to go to Fantasy Restaurant. When we walked in the door it felt like something that I didn't know was missing was now back in my life. You have the live lobster and crab tanks as you walk in with hanging pork off to the right. But there was an elegance that was modern and serine. There was a beautiful wine rack and what looked like Sake taps behind the counter. Right away we were greeted by Joanne, hopefully I spelled that right and were given a table. We started off with their Honey Pork and both my dad and I have to say it is the best we have ever had in our lives It was fresh and moist and the flavor was exactly on point. The second plate was the Crispy Duck and it was fantastic. Obviously the skin was crispy hence the crispy name but not only was it crispy but it had flavor and we devoured it really fast. Next, we got the Hot and Sour Soup which had great flavor but unfortunately for both me it was to spicy and I could only get through half of my bowl before I had to give up. I can't handle the spice but my mom finished it, had seconds and had nothing but good things to say about it. The next thing that came to us was Fried Shrimp and Rice Balls. Now these were great. We were told they were hot, not spicy hot but temp hot. They were the size of a baseball and when I opened mine up, I could see the steam rising up and I knew it was gonna be hot. After a couple of seconds I couldn't help myself and gave it a whirl. It was so good, the tempura was light and the mixture between the shrimp and the rice all chopped together was magical. Now I have to say is when the true test for a Chinese restaurant comes for me, and that is how they make their honey prawns. Well WINNER WINNER HONEY PRAWN DINNER. Wow not only did they use real prawns unlike every other place that says they do, but you actually get shrimp. Not only were the prawns huge, but the sauce was perfect. I could go back every day and eat that. The last thing we got was the combination fried rice and again, it was a homerun. The rice was cooked perfect, the chicken, pork, eggs, everything was just amazing. This is a Restaurant that deserves more people to know about it. I am in shock at how good every plate was and how they were able to pack so many flavors into every bite. This is definitely a restaurant that I will be going back and I hope this review gets more people around Sonoma County to give it a shot. It is worth every penny. read more

I have eaten Asian cuisine all over the bayarea. This funky looking place has the finest overall tasting dishes. I will drive miles to get a decent BBC pork, theirs is easily the best. I had the Honey Walnut Prawns and they were magnificent, wow, crunchy and fresh and not tiny little shrimp, these were large prawns. My only native is the Hot and sour soup was a touch to spicy for me, but i just may be a snowflake when it comes to spicy foods. Overall a fantastic meal. Not sure if they changed owners, but price gauging your customers is illegal - Covid or no Covid! This place is no Fantasy, it's a freaking NIGHTMARE! $15 for a pot of tea, they're not even located in SF! The city won't charge outrageous prices for tea, some places are still free. And where's the beef in their Mongolian beef, don't make the mistake of ordering any beef dishes off their menu. The spareribs consisted of all bones, and was overwhelmed with pineapples. The duck was old, had way better whole ducks in SF for cheaper. There's a mandated 18% gratuity added to your bill. There were only 2 tables when we dined, this place will eventually go out of business, it's highway robbery the prices they're charging. I was so happy to find a place that does hot pot in Sonoma county! And the food is amazing. The front is a little hard to see initially but once you're inside it's clean and well kept. We went for the spicy soup, I've tried mild and medium and would recommend going mild unless you're a big spice fan. This trip we got the premium tender beef, supreme lamb shoulder and tiger prawns (deveined but not de-shelled). The PT beef is definitely my favorite, then the lamb. Sliced pork is great too! For 2 people we got 3 meats, 3 veggies and 2 noodles (could have done with 1 noodle) and both ate our fill of everything. Don't forget to order sauces for dipping! The service is great! We were excited to see that there was a local hot pot place. However, we didn't see anywhere that they only offered it at dinner time but we made the best of it. As this was our first time we tried a little of everything. We sat at a large round table which was fine for the 5 of us. Except we were right next to the lobster tank and it was pretty loud. It made conversation difficult if you weren't sitting right next to someone. The salt and pepper pork chops were lightly battered and fried. Great crisp to them and cooked perfectly. The BBQ Pork egg noodle soup has broth that was so flavorful and the texture of the won tons were great. We will definitely be ordering both of those dishes again. The roast pork had great texture and some pieces had more flavor than others. However, it was on the edge of being cold which for something that has such high fat content was almost an unpleasant texture in your mouth. The beef chow fun had good flavor and the meat was tender for the most part. But that is where the greatness for us stopped. The other dishes were lack luster. Either lacking in flavor or (in the case of the sesame chicken) the meat was dry and hard to chew. The Shrimp fried rice was beautiful to look at but lacked flavor overall. My prayers have been answered. Hidden away in a quiet corner of Sonoma county lies this sweet little joint that sells the hot pot of my dreams. For the last few years I have been driving down to Oakland to get my fix, but along the way I have been passing this little hidden gem in Sonoma county. There is so little information about this place online. I have looked up countless times where a hot pot place is located near me, but was always directed to San Fran. First and most importantly, the broth. Their house original is a simple bone broth that is rich and smooth. My personal favorite is the homemade spicy. It has lots of peppers floating in it and has that amazing Chinese spice fragrance. Ask for it mild if you don't want your tongue to burn. Mild was delicious, next time I'll try medium. Secondly the meats and veggies. For such a small and quiet restaurant, the selection is great, and oh so fresh. We selected the beef slice, potato, bean curd, Chinese doughnuts and instant noodles. They had seafood, lamb, a great selection of mushrooms and veggies... There was so much to choose from, and only two of us so I had to hold back. Finally, my favorite part was the sauces. I opted for the house made chili sauce, that was smokey and spicy. A little went a long way, but it was an amazing addition. I also got housing and seaseme that added great variety to my bites. The staff was kind and attentive, the food came out quickly. It was the perfect combination of affordable and delicious. If you know hot pot, you will love it. Then I was made to stand right in the middle in front of everyone and blocking the walkway and other customers waiting to order. Gave it another shot and ordered pipa duck. They said I have to order in advance so I called in and ordered at 12pm. I kept mentioning I want pipa duck and they said it was the same as roast duck even tho I specifically specified pipa duck only. They said order would be ready at 6:30pm. A good 6 hours notice. They didn't even have it ready and tried to sell me roast duck. Told me pipa duck needs to be ordered 24 hours in advance but did not disclose that to me nor does it say on their site. WOW. We've driven past this place so many times and never stopped, and we finally did! I'm so glad we did: the prices are insanely good and the food is amazing. We found out it's take out only but one of the staff came out to take our order: it took less than 10 mins for them to prep our meal. We picked two items on special. They have soooo many menu items you will want for nothing: Hong Kong BBQ, hot pot and so much more! We were so impressed with our food - orange chicken had literal orange on top, and my shredded duck stir fry was so delish. This is an update to my original review about their hot pot. We recently went to have hot pot there again and actually, was quite pleased with the experience. The house original broth and house spicy broth were both umami packed and flavorful -- orders of magnitude better than what we had the first time around. I know there's a trend with hot pot restaurants to charge for the sauces, so I don't want to give the impression that Fantasy is doing something unsavory, but most of the places, even high end places, will charge $3-4 per person for the sauce bar. At Fantasy, you order the sauces a la carte and it's not cheap. $2 for shacha (Chinese bbq sauce), $2 for chili sauce... ok that's not terrible, there's actually enough quantity for both of these for two people (even some left over, which we took home). What really got me was $1.50 upcharge each for cilantro and green onions -- this is totally insane to me because I can get the entire bunch of cilantro for 99 cents at Safeway. IMHO, the garnishes should be free. Regarding the hot pot prices -- the soup bases were on par with other restaurants, though you get a lot less because they serve their hot pot in small, individual pots. The meat, veggies, and other items were reasonably priced, especially for the quantity. All in all, it was pretty decent. We still prefer having hot pot at home -- it's far more economical, but in a pinch, when we're out of hot pot soup base, we'd definitely head to Fantasy again. FWIW we also tried to order some roast pork belly by weight but were told ordering by weight is only for to-go orders... no way we're paying 50% more for 1/2 the amount of meat. It's crazy to me that throwing the meat onto a plate incurs such a steep markup. It's not like you get something different or better if you eat it in the restaurant, but I don't make the rules :) read more

We came here last minute on Christmas because our plans through because of covid. Driving up it seem kind of like a hole in the wall restaurant. Our table ordered hot pot and I was happy to see that we each had our own pot. Some items were pricey but what isn't these days. We ordered beef, shrimp, pork, noodles, potatoes, cabbage and I don't even know what else. They also have these little side tables to bring up next to your table so it's not so crowded. Second time doing take out here, it's been years since I have been here and thought of them today. They are authentic and the only restaurant in Sonoma County that does the Hong Kong style BBQ (meats you would find in SF Chinatown, Clement St, Ocean Ave, etc). Given that, prices are expensive $16.99 for a plate but it is a lot of meat & veggies, think of it has 3 entrees with rice. On their menu, check out their all day special rice plates. If you want their HK Style BBQ (it's no 7-13) but was told you can't mix Duck with Chicken. I ordered the Princess Chicken and Roast pork. Very good flavors and the ginger scallion oil dip was perfect for the princess chicken! This place also have Hot Pot to go which I haven't tried yet but also another first for Sonoma Country!
