Fortune cookies and soy sauce packets

On the hunt for a decent Chinese restaurant in Marin County that reminds me of home. My friend said he has been coming to China Village since he was a kid, so I figured why not give it a try. We phoned in for takeout and it took us a couple of times to order because they were busy at the restaurant and it sounded like their daughter tried to answer the phone for the owners. We ordered the house special crispy noodles, Hong Kong style ($13.75) which is his go to and I opted for the Seafood with Tofu Clay Pot ($18.46).We made some rice at home to pair with the clay pot. The house special crispy noodles were great. The noodles were so crispy, even when there was sauce on it, you still had the crunch. It was topped with broccoli, carrot, zucchini, shrimp, mushrooms, beef, Napa cabbage, onion, and bok choy. There was such a large mix of veggies and protein that I did not know where to start. This dish was worth the value and quality. When I have had this at other establishments, it is pretty much dead on in terms of what was in it. The seafood with tofu clay pot was okay. I think I need to dine in next time because it honestly just felt like I was eating the house special crispy noodle without the noodle. I was also thinking there would be more tofu but there was a ton of squid and scallops. Like what my parents would say, a lot of Chinese dishes revolves around similar sauces, so I was not too surprised that it was very close to the crispy noodle. I think I just wished it had something to make it more special and different. Our takeout came with soy sauce packets that we did not use and 2 fortune cookies. Overall, it was okay. I will give them another try, hopefully next time it's not raining and I'll dine in instead.

I haven't been here for years. So clean.

This is my favorite Chinese restaurant in the county!! I recently moved across town and was sad to learn that they do not deliver to my home. Today, I had the opportunity to go in person to order and pick up food while my dog was getting groomed next door. I ordered snow white garlic chicken, steamed rice, and egg rolls. While waiting, I got the call that my dog was ready to be picked up. I let them know I'd be back. As I was waking up to take my dog to the car, the lady at the cash register saw me and came running out with my other! That's incredible service!! The food was still piping hot when I got home. That's how close I live, yet I'm one mile out of their delivery zone. That's probably a good thing, because I'll treasure the meals more when I have to "work" to pick it up. Great food, excellent service, and I hope that someday they'll deliver to ALL of Novato.

Metal inside food

Stay away, unsafe. Received our order and there was a metal staple inside of the orange chicken. My girlfriend almost choked and died. When we called the restaurant they did not care and acted like this is something that consistently happens. The staple was literally inside of the meat, not on the exterior.

Ordered takeout last nite and as I usually do I ordered food for 7-8 when we were only 2!!!! Service was good and food was good , ordered egg rolls, pot stickers, pork buns, crab Rangoon , pork fried rice ,chicken chow mien, almond chicken, orange beef and sweet n sour pork ... it was a little pricy but what isn't these days ,spent 116.00 fair value for all that food

Do they use MSG in their cooking?

I have been told they do not. The food tastes very clean. I have not experienced msg side effects from the food. It would be best to give them a call with questions or concerns.

It didn't appear like they have AC, since all the doors were open. This restaurant looks new on the outside, but looks "old-school" on the inside. The only thing missing was.....chopsticks on the table. I ordered: -Tomato Beef Chow Mein, $15.95, serves two. Very good Tomato Beef Chow Mein. Every piece of beef was tender and easy to eat. The chunks of tomato, bell pepper and onion were in small bite sized pieces. Perfect for eating with chopsticks. The sauce was tangy and lightly sweet. What was missing was the "Wok Hei." Aka...."the breath of the Wok," it's the unique smoky aroma that adds a special flavor to stir fry food. - Salt & Pepper Fried Chicken Wings, $17.95, 9 wings. To be clear, these are "flats." Fresh, juicy, and fried crispy good. Seasoned in coarse salt, chili pepper and onion. My waiter/server gave me a small dish of chili oil to enhance the heat level. Overall, a nice first time experience.....4-stars. I would like to return and try their Wor Won Ton Soup. ------------------------------------------- Notes: Some of the menu photos don't match the dish. I especially liked the Mongolian beef--it had plenty of tender beef and wasn't overloaded with onions like it is at many other places. The restaurant is on the smaller side, but it was quiet and comfortable during our visit. I imagine it can get a bit lively when it's busy, but overall it was an enjoyable lunch spot.

It gives you the impression that nobody really cares about maintaining the place. Now, let's talk about the food. A colleague and I stopped by for lunch, so I can only speak to the lunch experience. Dinner might be different, but based on what I saw, I wouldn't get my hopes up. First, the hot and sour soup was absolutely horrible. It tasted like someone mixed soy sauce with water, threw in a few pieces of tofu, and called it soup. Extremely salty, with no real depth of flavor. Just nasty! The fried rice was probably the best part of the entire meal, and that's not saying much. I could see the guy in the back preparing it fresh, but we arrived a little after the lunch rush, and he didn't seem particularly enthusiastic about making it. The rice ended up slightly burnt. As for the main dishes, the sauces actually had decent flavor, but the chicken was another story. It tasted like precooked chicken that had been reheated, leaving it with a rubbery, unpleasant texture. Both dishes suffered from the same issue: decent sauce, terrible meat. My overall experience? Disappointing. Between the restaurant's poor cleanliness, the awful soup, the slightly burnt rice, and the rubbery chicken, I personally wouldn't come back. Of course, everyone has different tastes, so feel free to give it a try and judge for yourself. But based on my lunch experience, this place has a lot of room for improvement.
