Pork Chop with Salt and Pepper, Beef Chow Fun (sadly no egg like I originally requested)
    Emy B.

I had a hankering for beef with scrambled eggs chow fun. Being born & raised in San Francisco you can probably understand (well, maybe) my frustration when I try different Chinese restaurants around town. There is an abundance of excellent quality Chinese food in San Francisco that finding similar quality Chinese food in Novato makes it hard to satisfy that cuisine craving for me. After calling China Village on San Marin (who say they can't make this particular dish...really?) I tried my luck with China House on Grant. For delivery I ordered it through DoorDash along with their Salt & Pepper Pork Chops. On the app I specifically ordered the Beef Chow Fun where I added instructions to add scrambled eggs to it. How hard is that? When I received my delivered order I opened up my boxes and discovered that they did not follow my simple instructions. Most restaurants would call you directly if there are any questions about your order, but sadly China House did not. If there is an up-charge for an additional ingredient I would've gladly paid for it. I called about my order after getting it and the person who answered said he was unaware of my specific request in the instructions and said I should've called them. Well I guess I should've, but aaargh! The food ... chow fun was just average, noodles were very dry, but beef was tender. The salt & pepper pork chops were average as well, but tender and still crispy when I received it and large portion. Nice hint of the Chinese five spice flavor in the seasoning as well. Lesson learned for next time. And still on the hunt.

Hong Kong Style Shrimp Noodles (Brocoli and Green Beans added)
    Ana Paola M.

We had the Hon Kong Style Shrimp Noodles, Walnut Shrimp and Sautéed Green Beans. The only thing that was lacking was a consistent sauce on the noodles in the Hong Kong Noodles. But other than that it had a really good taste. Everything else was also had a really good taste, nicely cooked, consistent throughout not overly salty. Really solid Chinese food. I look forward to going back.

Looks normal, but the chicken had to have been 3rd rate, frozen then defrosted ( at least that would explain it!) or not actually chicken.

Only went there for lunch and ordered from the lunch special. Good value but nothing out of the ordinary regarding the food.

    Can they make anything vegan?

Do they prepare their dishes with MSG?

I think they do use MSG but you can request that they omit it. We customize the heck out of our dishes and they are very happy to accommodate us.

Do they have dry fried ribs? Where can I view the menu?

As far as I know they do not serve the item you seek. You can give them a call using the phone number listed on Yelp and they can tell you if they can make some for you. Good luck hunting for your favorite kind of Chinese ribs.

It probably would of been better if it wasn't near 90*F outside. It didn't appear like they have AC, since all the doors were open. This restaurant looks new on the outside, but looks "old-school" on the inside. The only thing missing was.....chopsticks on the table. I ordered: -Tomato Beef Chow Mein, $15.95, serves two. Very good Tomato Beef Chow Mein. Every piece of beef was tender and easy to eat. The chunks of tomato, bell pepper and onion were in small bite sized pieces. Perfect for eating with chopsticks. The sauce was tangy and lightly sweet. What was missing was the "Wok Hei." Aka...."the breath of the Wok," it's the unique smoky aroma that adds a special flavor to stir fry food. - Salt & Pepper Fried Chicken Wings, $17.95, 9 wings. To be clear, these are "flats." Fresh, juicy, and fried crispy good. Seasoned in coarse salt, chili pepper and onion. My waiter/server gave me a small dish of chili oil to enhance the heat level. Overall, a nice first time experience.....4-stars. I would like to return and try their Wor Won Ton Soup. ------------------------------------------- Notes: Some of the menu photos don't match the dish. I'd give a -100 if I could. After being a happy customer here for years, we had an awful experience…read moreyou should know about. On 12/24/25, we couldn't get through their regular phone number quite a few times due to a busy signal. We then placed a Door Dash order at 4:50pm. After the app updating the delivery time several times, the order was suddenly "cancelled by the restaurant." We were really looking forward to our dinner for two hours, so you can imagine our disappointment and scrambling for alternatives on Christmas Eve. We did receive a refund for the exact amount that was charged to the credit card. We had decided to try the restaurant again on 12/31/25. Again, we couldn't get through. So I went in person to place the order to ask why the restaurant cancelled our 12/24/25 order. I've never heard of a confirmed order being cancelled before. They said they "cancel Door Dash orders at 6:30pm. A lot of people were disappointed, too." I said but we had placed our order at 4:50pm. I couldn't understand his reasoning. We decided to never use them again. Despite our terrible inconvenience and decision to never dine here again, we decided to place an order today 12/31/25 at 4:19pm for pick-up in person, so I could ask in person what happened on 12/24/25. They said today's order would take 25-30 minutes. It was ready at 4:37pm. That was redeemable, but we still don't understand what happened on 12/24:25 and don't feel confident that it will never happen again. So I imagine the lesson learned is beware of placing Door Dash orders at this restaurant! See photos for proof of our experience.

No cutlery, no chopsticks (yep, we love them), one packet of soy sauce for three dishes, no napkins, a bunch of fortune cookies (yay), and didn't even fold the crab rangoon. Ok, the food. Mongolian beef- not sure this is beef. Very sure it had NO flavor. Pork (just kidding, they do chicken) fried rice-- bland. Flavorless. Mid, as my kid would say. General Tso's-- why was it mixed with water chestnuts? Why wasn't it spicy? Why was it mushy? What was the green veggie in it?!? Crab Rangoon-- well, crab triangles, because they couldn't be bothered to prepare them properly. Spent over $100 on this crap. But hey, got extra fortune cookies, so guess we should cheer. Yawn. Overall. Gross. Disappointed. And very glad we didn't have to deal with the crappy staff, per the other reviews that I 100% believe. Do better. Or just close this garbage hole up. Two stars, because we included our delivery guy. Otherwise, yeah, -10.

My friend said…read morehe has been coming to China Village since he was a kid, so I figured why not give it a try. We phoned in for takeout and it took us a couple of times to order because they were busy at the restaurant and it sounded like their daughter tried to answer the phone for the owners. We ordered the house special crispy noodles, Hong Kong style ($13.75) which is his go to and I opted for the Seafood with Tofu Clay Pot ($18.46).We made some rice at home to pair with the clay pot. The house special crispy noodles were great. The noodles were so crispy, even when there was sauce on it, you still had the crunch. It was topped with broccoli, carrot, zucchini, shrimp, mushrooms, beef, Napa cabbage, onion, and bok choy. There was such a large mix of veggies and protein that I did not know where to start. This dish was worth the value and quality. When I have had this at other establishments, it is pretty much dead on in terms of what was in it. The seafood with tofu clay pot was okay. I think I need to dine in next time because it honestly just felt like I was eating the house special crispy noodle without the noodle. I was also thinking there would be more tofu but there was a ton of squid and scallops. Like what my parents would say, a lot of Chinese dishes revolves around similar sauces, so I was not too surprised that it was very close to the crispy noodle. I think I just wished it had something to make it more special and different. Our takeout came with soy sauce packets that we did not use and 2 fortune cookies. Overall, it was okay. I will give them another try, hopefully next time it's not raining and I'll dine in instead.

That's how close I live, yet I'm one mile out of their delivery zone. That's probably a good thing, because I'll treasure the meals more when I have to "work" to pick it up.
