We got dinner on Labor Day on our way back from point Reyes to San Jose. There weren't too many options due to the holiday, and we decided to give this place a shot as we were traveling with my grandparents and we didn't want to make them walk. Conveniently located across the parking garage, uncle wing restaurant was open on Labor Day. No other customers except for us in the beginning, but two came to pick up takeout and one couple came to dine in. The AC was broken so there was only a fan. This was pretty miserable. The older furniture and structures are forgivable, but the restaurant still operating with broken AC is intolerable, especially since whoever was cooking these dishes must've been suffering a lot more than we were next to the stove. I hope they consider the wellbeing of their chefs and customers. We ordered: Hot and sour soup: 2/5 not spicy or sour just a bland soup with old tasting tofu Kung pao chicken: 0/5 not spicy at all, salty if anything. Kung pao chicken usually has lots of square shaped chicken and veggies and it was just more of a vegetable stir fry with a couple of pieces of chicken...worst Kung pao chicken I've ever had Vegetable deluxe: 2/5 vegetables were lightly stir fried and not soft yet. Shapes are all different with inconsistent flavoring Fried tofu stir fry: 3/5 pretty edible Steamed fish: 4/5 way too salty for me and took a really long time to cook, but highly ranked by my family read more

The owners are so kind. Please support this small business. The food is delicious. It's a comfort food for me and I cannot recommend it enough. The portion sizes are large, the food is fresh and hot, upon pick up, dine in or delivery. You walk-in and for me it felt like home. The ambiance is so welcoming and you can tell this family and staff wants you to leave happy and full. I cannot recommend this place enough. Was shopping in downtown San Rafael and had a craving for Chinese food. Searched for "Chinese Restaurants nearby'" and saw that Uncle Wing was just around the corner. During these days of rising prices, it was a real deal to find a $7.99 lunch special which included a crispy won ton appetizer, entree, rice and a fortune cookie. I ordered Cashew Chicken and my dining partner had Mongolian Beef. The dishes were well prepared and flavorful. The waitress was friendly and provided a good dining experience. read more

The restaurant is all dressed up for Chinese New Year. I'm sure they're going to have families and generations celebrating all weekend and next week. Lucky to just miss the crowds, I enjoyed Uncle Wing Restaurant's excellent Honey Walnut Prawns ($12.99), crunchy fresh shrimp pan fried and tossed in a decadent creamy sauce with candied walnuts. A Yelper recommended it highly and she was spot on. I knew better than to order two fried items but I couldn't resist their Salt & Pepper Chicken Wings ($9.99) So I got them. The wings were sensational. I saved a couple for my son. Service was a bit slow but I arrived at an off hour. They graciously let me linger until a half hour before they closed for lunch; I was biding time until I could pick up my son. First time, and I am impressed. The Pork Fried rice was really tasty, moist, and with plenty of Chasu pork. The Broccoli Beef was just right, very delicious. The Spring Rolls were excellent, large, not oily, great taste. The Salt and Pepper wings were as good as people say- juicy and tasty with a delicious crispy outside. Very nice people too. As you can see from my photos, the menu has been totally revised and options narrowed. I arrived quite early and there was nobody else in the dining room. I was greeted promptly and courteously. The decor was a little dated. The chairs have slipcovers like your old aunt Mildred might have used, but it just reminded me of some old places in Chinatown that have been there forever. Speaking of which, the drastic change in the menu from what I had seen online before I went, plus the food not matching some past stellar reviews had me wondering if perhaps the place had changed hands. It didn't seem to be quite the same restaurant described on the Yelp page that guided me here. My initial selection was the Szechuan beef, but I was told that this would be deep fried like the meat in sweet and sour pork or General Tso's chicken. That didn't sound like any Szechuan beef I've ever had before, so I changed my order and got the black pepper beef instead. This dish was tasty, the beef was tender, and the portion was adequate, but the one flavor I didn't notice was that of black pepper. I ordered a "small" hot and sour soup and received a bowl that might have served four. They show three sizes of soups on the menu. After I remarked on the "small" size being still rather large, I was told that I could have asked for a "cup," but this option was not indicated on the menu, nor did the server suggest it when I ordered. I did like the soup. The location was convenient, the service friendly, and the price reasonable. The food was good, but I wouldn't have gone out of my way for it if I had seen the new menu before I went. I don't think I will be back. read more

The best Chinese food restaurant in the area! I've had it both in restaurant and delivered, it tastes just as good either way. One of my main problems with a lot of Chinese restaurants is how the food doesn't travel well. It gets soggy or loses flavor, I haven't noticed that in the slightest with Uncle Wing. Vegetarian and vegan customers don't need to worry about missing out on iconic dishes like Orange Chicken, they have a bunch of vegan meat versions of food!! I just went here tonight for my Oma's birthday. It is a very nostalgic restaurant that reminds me of all the family owned places I love in the city. It's like a place that's been frozen in time since the 2000s, a type of decor I really miss. We licked all our plates clean hence why I don't have any photos to share... it doesn't seem very busy aside from take out which I hope changes in the future, the staff are incredibly kind and made my Oma feel so special on her birthday! read more

Here's a tip for all San Rafaelites in these inflationary times. Drop everything and hit this unassuming, charming Cantonese favorite for dinner. (OK, maybe check first to see if they've fixed their broken AC !) But do not sleep on their current (and must be popular) dinner special, something they call their "personal dinner". Choose any of their entrees, they add a perfect egg roll, some warm and satisfying wonton soup and a lovely dome of steamed rice for just $5.49 above the entree price. Still a pretty fair deal when you consider that their other menu simply has entrees and dishes at full price. So guess who serves the very best General Tso's Chicken? These guys do. No overcooked boulders of fried, over sauced boulders that are essentially coating, no cloying thick, molassesy gloppy sauce that's overly salty. Nothing could be more different, and yet be so elegant. Instead they served up a marvelous plate of golden, lightly fried but still crispy chicken with a glazey dousing of a light, oniony sauce that enrobed the pieces of chicken and kept everything moist and super delicious. More Chinese spots could learn a lot from this preparation. I finished the whole $11.99 entree. San Rafael, you've got a winner here, and convenient parking across the street. I just moved to San Rafael a little over a week go, right down the street from Uncle Wings. Read and heard good things about this place so I decided to "wing" it for lunch today ;) Placed a to go order of beef chow fun and pot stickers. The prices here are very reasonable, much more than other places in the area. They also give you a generous portion of food. Picked up my order and took that long one block walk home lol Opened the containers, put some food on the plate and I was so ready. Now the sauce they give you for the pot stickers comes in a little container. They don't give you that bull crap packaged sauce with soy sauce and hit sauce. I truly believe this is homemade and man was it good. The beef in the chow fun was so tender it practically melted in my mouth. I def recommend this place and I'll surely be going back. Now don't let the interior fool you. Yes it's dated, yes it's a little gruff and divey but when the food is that good you overlook that stuff. I believe family member own this place very friendly Service. I would love to come back again if I have a chance in the future to try different item the price compared to other place, very reasonable and I have Mongolian beef. You have a choice of White rice or brown rice and I love brown rice.The food pretty good and service is pretty good. This is a solid Chinese restaurant serving no-frills Cantonese food in a neighborhood without a lot of good Chinese options. I found the food to be really comforting and straightforward. Love supporting family businesses like these: We ordered. - SALT AND PEPPER CHICKEN WINGS: As opposed to being breaded in starch, these were dipped in a wet batter and then fried. A little heavy for me, but it was seasoned well with salt and pepper. - BLACK PEPPER BEEF: Loved this, just beef and oyster sauce and lots of black pepper. Delicious on top of rice. - STEAMED FISH: This tasted like a Chinese mom made it. A pretty generous serving of fish, with soy sauce and the fragrance of green onion/ginger oil. Also delicious on top of rice. - CRISPY CHOW MEIN: Crispy noodles and gravy. Loved the veggies on top. Wish the noodles were the thin wonton noodles that make for a lighter/crispier dish. They have a brown rice option if that's your thing. Despite catering more to non-Chinese clientele, I think the food here is actually pretty good. I'd come here all the time if I lived nearby. Uncle Wings ALWAYS comes through. We do take out at least a couple times a month and the food is always fresh and flavorful. The soups are always perfect, potstickers perfectly cooked and flavorful. The fried rice is never too greasy and neither is the ChowMein. This is easily the best Chinese Food in Marin. Excellent service and food for many years and hopefully many more to come. read more

I just happened to walk by this spot today at 3pm just when the lunch special was ending and the very nice waitress let me slide in. This is one of those of the main road places that you might miss driving by. The decor is kinda dated and the seat covers are very bright, but the staff are amazing. She was super nice and made me feel very welcome. I got the string bean chicken, spicy with white rice. It was great! At first I thought the serving was a little small but as I finished everything it was actually the perfect amount. There was so much flavor in every bite and before I realized it the plate was empty. We stopped by on a whim and let me tell you it must have been destiny. This was the most incredible Chinese food I've ever had with no hesitation, our entire party of seven agreed unanimously. It's that good! We ordered: *Wontons *Chicken potstickers *Won ton soup *sweet and sour fish fillet *chow mein (chicken + veg) *Mongolian trio *beef mushu *orange chicken *white rice The lady serving us was so kind and helpful. She happily answered all of our questions about the menu and was extra attentive throughout our meal in the most pleasant way. We adored the warm service and amazing food. You could just tell every dish was freshly made and the wonton soup was incredible. Do not pass it up! The won ton soup had so much flavor and a small size served our whole table (although we wish we had more). The pot stickers were extremely flavorful and had a wonderful garlic and umami flavor for a chicken filling. We loved the beef mushu the egg in it was perfect for the sauce and added a very nice note to the dish. The orange chicken and the sweet and sour fish fillet were breaded the same way in the puffiest and crispiest batter I've ever had in my life. I'll be dreaming about the crunch that came from them until we get the chance to go back. I could go on and on! TLDR: Absolutely must stop to eat here. Food and service is exceptional. My favorite thing to order is chicken chow mein, but occasionally if I'm feeling healthy I get vegetable chow mein. They do it right, every time. I've ordered for take-out at night at least two dozen times at this point, and it's always good. When I call it's almost always the same lady - super friendly. And the food is usually done in about 10 minutes + the 2 minute drive time from my work to pick it up. It's nice to support local family owned places and this is one of them. I'll be back! read more

Stopped by here for lunch today because I wanted something quick that I could pickup to-go within walking distance of the client site. Being that it was a beautiful 86 degrees outside, I wanted to have a chance to go for a little walk, so I opted some place close nearby where I did not have to drive to, yet did not have to pass out from heat exhaustion to walk to. And Uncle Wing's fit that bill. I was initially a bit hesitant due to the ratings, as it was a 3 star rating amidst a sea of 4-5 star establishments in the local area, but I was craving Chinese and wanted to give them a try. I called up Uncle Wing's to place my order as I started walking there, was informed that my order would take 10 mins, and as I walk into the establishment pretty much on the dot 10mins later, they had just finished putting my order in a bag for me to pickup. Service both on the phone and in person was very pleasant. I ordered the Oyster Sauce Beef lunch special, which I opted with white rice. The order was fairly tasty, and priced affordably at just $6.95+ tax. I don't live anywhere near San Rafael, but certainly for the rest of this week, and if I'm back in the area, I won't hesitate to give this place a try again! read more
