So let me just start up by saying the potstickers are the best I've ever had. You can taste the quality of the ingredients. The ginger and fresh garlic amazing. I ordered war wonton soup. . Tons of fresh vegetables. This is great cause I have a summertime cold. And it's soothing. The last thing I ordered was a vegetable chow mein with chicken. Overall, the quality of the ingredients in their food is what stands out. I've eaten at the restaurant multiple times, but decided to order today and I was surprised to see any kind of negative review. I am so excited to find Yet Wah for the first time and so grateful they are open til midnight! They have great decor and lighting for a Chinese restaurant, and a full bar! We ordered the Kung Pao Scallops (without the green bell pepper, which they were happy to accommodate). The scallops were so tender and fresh tasting, and the portion was generous for a $21 dish of scallops, onion, water chestnuts, slices of crunchy seaweed and peanuts. We also ordered the spicy garlic eggplant which was a huge portion and melted in our mouths. The sauce is the traditional sweet, tangy and spicy which they got in pretty good balance with the piping hot eggplant. It's great to know about this place. The menu is huge so much to keep coming back for. And our server (from Goa surprisingly) was super sweet and friendly. I would only recommend them changing two white lightbulbs that were out of theme with all the others of a softer warm tone. I'm sensitive to lighting so I wanted to point that out because it's much more inviting to have the warm tone, and so rare for a Chinese restaurant to care so much about lighting. Late night restaurant was excellent as we were hungry and wanted wah wonton soup. Luckily they opened until midnight while other Chinese restaurants closed at 9pm on a Friday night. Tired of the same bland, tired offerings available for Chinese takeout, we decided to try Yet Wah. What a delight! First, the menu and on-line interface were extensive and well-organized, making it simple to make our selections. Second, delivery was prompt, giving us freshly cooked food, not limp, box-steamed messes. Vegetables were crunchy, sauces still hot, meats juicy. And the flavors were excellent. Dumplings fresh and still slightly crunchy inside a light wrapper. The Hunan chicken had crunchy fresh vegetables and plenty of neat, with a spicy sauce that had much more depth of flavor that merely hit chilis. All in all, a wonderful discovery in San Rafael. read more

The staff were friendly and nice. We ordered two orders but they only brought us one and we had to reorder. The potstickers were pretty bland and flavorless and did not come with a sauce. We also got a fortune cookie at the end without a fortune and they said we could have another one but didn't bring it. I would say that maybe they were just busy and distracted but we were the only people inside (though they did have a table outside). There was a documentary that was in gruesome details about the murder of a little girl directly in front about 4 feet away from us. Overall I love that that are open when no one else is (we went around 9pm on a Friday), I thought the staff were very nice, but the food is over priced for the ingredients and the portions and the ambiance was off for us for sure. I love a good documentary and true crime but the gory detail was not what we wanted or expected. We may try again on another night but it was definitely an interesting friday. read more

Ate here today. Absolutely horrible potstickers and shu mi. What happened? The potstickers arrived all busted open and looked like they were fried in a pan filled with burnt pieces of previously cooked potstickers. Hard to accurately describe but disgusting. Each one fell apart when I moved them from the serving dish to my plate. Very limited filling and not much flavor at all. The shu mi were over cooked and seemingly previously frozen. Again, horrible. Believe me when I say that I have had literally hundreds of Yet Wah potstickers and these are the worst I've had here or anywhere in the world. Additionally my friend and I both had two fountain Cokes that arrived in very small glasses. We asked for refills halfway through our lunch. When we got the check we were charged for four Cokes )$11.00). I complained that they have never charged me for refills at Yet Wah. She a said the always have, and refused to adjust the bill. Have enjoyed Yet Wah for many years, lately the service and food have been bad. After today we've decided to find another place for delivery. The beef in all three containers of won ton soup was inedible, the broth wasn't flavorful, the spring rolls were mushy. The restaurant called the delivery guy - only got his voicemail, food arrived 50 minutes late. I had just hung up from 3rd call to restaurant to cancel my order when our order showed up. Called Yet Wah to let them know the order was finally delivered, they asked me if the delivery guy told us what happened and where he was. Sad when a really good place goes down the dumps. We had a party of five with a baby and when we arrived the restaurant was celebrating their anniversary. They still allowed us to come in and have a meal there. The owner came out and chatted with us as well which was really nice. We even got the book on how the restaurant started out and become what it is today. Great book too! We ordered two orders of the almond pressed ducks, combo chow mein, fried rice, Mongolian beef, honey glazed prawns and pot stickers. Everything came out fairly quickly. It was all good too. The food was portioned generously and I really enjoyed the duck, rice and Mongolian beef. I could not get pictures because we all started eating. It was a great time with good food and good company. Wow! I saw the name Yet Wash and was reminded of the great Chinese food they served in Crockett. Apparently they have been reduced to heat & eat, dry flavorless food now. I got the Szechuan chicken and butterfly shrimp. The chicken was dry and almost appeared to be left over from an earlier order. My wife and I were disappointed during our last two visits after first coming here in 2010. I remember Yet Wah was highly rated and crowded. It seems now there are fewer and fewer patrons the past couple of years. My last visit was a disaster. Yet Wah does not have the delicious food that my wife and I had before. This is not the restaurant that I used to know, look forward to, and enjoy. The house won ton soup was over-salted and downsized to more vegetables and less wontons than in previous orders. The moo shu pork was overloaded with bean sprouts and cabbage while the pancakes were brittle and dry, difficult to fold, more like a thin tortilla. The pork chow mein had too much soy sauce and was greasy. These were horrible Chinese-American dishes. There was not much service. With only one other party and no crowd on a Sunday morning, the server simply delivered the dishes and went away. I hope the restaurant carefully consider my and others' reviews and quickly improve what was once a very good restaurant. read more

Yet Wah had a restaurant in Crockett years ago with one of my favorite dishes Pressed Duck. When I found out they are in San Rafael and still serve the same dish. I had to take my family there to taste this dish. The place is on a busy st with many stores and restaurants to choose from. The place is clean and the servers are kind and attentive. *side note - we happen to go on a day they were having a private party celebrating the history of the restaurant and it was closed to the public. They the owners/manager made an exception to host us, in a private section out of the way of there celebration. In my opinion, that A+ customer service at its best. To continue we ordered the Press Duck, Combination ChowMein, Beef Fried Rice, Honey Walnut Shrimp and Sauté Green Beans. Everything came hot and fresh and the waiter(s) always made sure we had water or Hot tea to drink. As for my favorite dish it was just as I remembered delicious and seasoned well but I wished it was more crispier. That didn't matter because we ordered one to go. That should tell you something. At the end they gifted us tea cups sand a story/recipe book given to the guess who attended there celebration. We shall visit again! read more

I went there today for the deep fried su mai- something I've eaten since I was a little girl (there used to be a Yet Wah in sf), anyways, it was so salty and the recipe has changed. Americanized Cantonese dishes here filled with history through their foods and restaurant brand name! My most favorite was their fried pork siu mai! Unique since it's usually steamed and the fried parts, makes it quite nice with texture and different. Foil wrapped chicken and sizzling rice soup are my two classic favorites when I dined at Yet Wah at their other locations decades ago! Their foil wrapped chicken was a bit dry and not enough of their signature sauce marinated in the chicken pieces. Their sizzling rice didn't have enough sizzle. Moo Shu Pork was spot on. Besides that, it brought me back to my childhood memories of Yet Wah dining! Chow down time! So homely! read more

Don't be misled by some of the negative reviews below. I go here whenever I am having dinner with friends or family or just want to treat myself to a nice night out. The food is consistently delicious. Vegetarian pot-stickers to die for. Most recently I got the Chinese Broccoli with garlic sauce and the veggies were cooked perfectly and sauce full of flavors. My mom likes the chicken lettuce cups and my best friend likes the honey walnut shrimp. I don't eat meat so I can't try them, but they look and smell delicious! The service is consistently quick and very very friendly. Billy is a friendly face and makes a point to greet and get to know customers. The space is gorgeous with a perfect spot to host parties in the back. I've been to a fair share of those and the staff is awesome at accommodating. They are also one of the few places open late in Marin. As someone who works evenings this is incredibly convenient. Please give this place a shot! You will not regret it! read more

You know what I could use more of during this pandemic? Good customer service, intentional laughs, and delicious food. And I found ALL of these things on a Wednesday night in San Rafael! Who knew there was a weekly 7 pm comedy show happening each Wednesday in a restaurant? I did, ONLY after going to watch it. The staff was so friendly. They joked. They showed hospitality. They took the time to introduce themselves! Thank you, Joaquin and Edwin! I felt like I was famous the way you waited on and catered to my table. Now for the food. My table ordered shrimp pot stickers (WINNER OF THE NIGHT), the combination platter, stir fried eggplant (also QUITE delicious: sweet, garlicy, slightly spicy), and combination fried rice. I hear there is an amazing lunch special I'd love to check out. So, I'll be back! But, any place bringing laughter to the community on a random Wednesday is a company I want to support. We went here as "walk-ins" hungry in the evening and waiting for the next band at the "dancing under the lights" party. On the plus side: The wait staff was attentive and helpful, it was clean, the menu fairly extensive with Cantonese style dishes. But we were very disappointed with the "shortcuts". For example, the Hot and Sour Soup had no bamboo shoots, and used copious amounts of celery which has a very strong flavor. Neither did it have the black fungi mushrooms, nor the dry tofu usually included in this soup. The green-beans in garlic tasted good, but they were something like "blue lake" beans, not the traditional Chinese long beans that are so much more delicious. The mixed seafood Chow-fun was good - not too greasy, but was a bit skimpy with the seafood. Since the prices reflect using the expected ingredients (mid $20s for most dishes) it was really disappointing to have the cheaper US substitutes. read more

Came here for lunch and so glad tried the Almond Pressed duck! It's crispy and tender and sooo delicious! I would definitely recommend coming here for this . My friend wanted to come here for lunch. I had warned him that the last four times he had been here he almost got food poisoning. He says fifth times the lucky time so we went. He was wrong. He wasn't lucky. The food was so mad that a picket line from the Tibetan clothes store across the street Moved over in front because the human rights violations were worse at the restaurant than they were in Tibet itself. As you'll see from the pictures, the pot stickers look like they were massacred by Chinese troops squashing a Buddhist rebellion and the fried shumai tasted like plastic and had freezer burn. My buddy said the one good thing was that the oil and vinegar on the table was still up to par. Next time you're in the area run to another area. read more

I haven't been here in a year or so. Decided to drop in for lunch. Ordered the Wah Won Ton Soup. I must say Wow Wow Wow! It is very very good! The broth is perfect, and it has mushrooms, bok choy, chicken, pork, prawns, and more. Everything is so fresh and tasty. The Won Tons have a great flavor with a subtle hint of ginger. So good! It's a very generous portion, usually serves two people, and I must say it is perhaps the best soup of this genre I've had in Marin County. The service was very friendly and attentive and the restaurant is lovely, sitting by the windows in the front. The server was a very nice young man named Luke. My friends and I came here for a Lunar New Year dinner celebration and had a wonderful time. We all had different dietary preferences from vegan, gluten free, no pork to meat & seafood lovers and Yet Wah was able to accommodate all of us. For appetizer, we enjoyed their crispy veggie egg rolls, combo of different pan fried potstickers, & princess chicken salad while other friends devoured the chicken lettuce cups and sizzling rice soup. The Hong Kong style noodles were perfectly cooked. Some of us spiced it up with their hot chili sauce cause some of us like it hot! Glazed walnut prawns, veggie deluxe, pineapple chicken, beef & broccoli, cashew chicken were other dishes we liked. The food has always been good here. But when we used to come 20 years ago, the servers were attentive and appreciated your business because there were other places you could go. Now that there's not many choices, they've gotten complacent. Betty (who I think is an owner but not sure) has given us the worst, most rude service ever. The last time, we ordered an expensive dinner for two and she tried to not give us the bottle of wine we pad for with our meal! When we said at the end of our meal that we would talk our wine to go, she was clearly irritated that we had remembered. Last night was the final straw. We keep going back and tolerating her (we never seem to get a different server) because the food is so good. But last night, her apathy was off the hook. When she came to toss the check and menus on the table, we told her we came for the soup so we ready to order. She said in a rude tone "I'll be back" and walked away. There were only two other couples in the entire place so it wasn't like they were slammed. My partner and I looked at each other in shock. Then he said, if she doesn't come back in 5 minutes, we'll just leave and not come back. She came to our section to check on the other (older regulars) and glanced at us, clearly seeing that we were waiting and ignored us. We left....for the last time. San Rafael needs more options for good Chinese food. Let's get the word out and attract some new businesses. read more

Be very very careful. I brought my mother and daughter to celebrate the end of the school year. We all ordered different things. I ordered a ginger salmon. I had to spit it out. Thankfully I did not get sick. The salmon was bad. It tasted off and had a funky scent. I said something to the employees. A man sitting at another table overhead me. He stated his chicken tasted rancid. He left without eating the rest of his meal. My mother had the walnut prawns. She said the sauce tasted sour and had cottage cheese clumps. She told the employees. They were dismissive and argued that there was nothing wrong with the food. The chef said the salmon was fine. It absolutely was not fine. It was off. It should never have been served. I do not know if their power went off and they served the unrefrigerated food. I asked and again they were dismissive. They charged me $80 for horrid rancid food. They never apologized. We did not eat the majority of the food. Absolutely awful experience. Do NOT eat here. My mother got food poisoning. My daughter felt nauseous. read more

We order a lot of delivery food for this restaurant and it it flat out wrong that they do not allow modifications with their food. They also make a great lemon chicken which they stuff in a box and totally ruin the dish if you order it Togo- hey guys it's fried chicken why would to stuff it into the smallest box you can find? Slice it and lay it down in a flat clam shell container like other Chinese restaurants. Also all of their dishes just taste the same. For Chinese food in Marin, it ain't too bad. I can only comment on my experience here during lunch, but overall I'd say that it was average at best. Ordered the glazed walnut prawn lunch special since these seemed to be the talk of the town, and it was just okay. The prawns were definitely heavy on the cornstarch. I could literally taste it, and I've never tasted it so heavily in Chinese food before. The sauce was also very thin and I found it odd that the walnuts were served alongside the prawns and not mixed in with sauce. The rice was nice and fluffy and the egg roll was crispy was delicious. Also really enjoyed the egg flower soup that they served beforehand. It was hearty and the broth was flavored very well. The portion size for lunch was actually quite small, but the prices are pretty cheap for lunch. Service was wonderful! This was actually the last dine in experience that I had right before the big COVID struck. I'm grateful that this dine-in experience (as far as service goes) was a great one. And I can't forget to mention how stunning the decor and setup is here! It's such a beautiful setup! Very roomy and comfortable. Their patio is so adorable too. I can't wait until this whole COVID thing blows over so that I can start going out to restaurants like I used to. When it does get back to normal, I'd be willing to give Yet Wah another try. read more

I see a lot of reviews that are pretty tough on this place, but I've been eating there for years. Very good food, unusually late hours for Marin, not sure what's not to like. I've seen some complaints about the service, but save for one instance in about 15 years it's always been great. Particularly recommend the smoked salmon fried rice. read more
