We came here based on a recommendation from someone who had been here over 15 years ago. It made an impression on them then and made an impression on us now. That's some serious consistency. Unassuming little restaurant on the outskirts of Sausalito. We found ourselves interested from the start with the different varieties of citrus blooming. Came inside and appreciated the clean fish tanks and beautifully decorated space. It was pretty soon after they opened and lots of tables available, but it definitely got more full as the evening continued. Service was incredible. We loved the engagement from Winnie, so friendly, so sarcastic my friend, perfect. We ordered some pretty standard dishes, and all four of us ranked them as delicious! Potstickers were nicely crisped on the bottom and still tender. Mushu pork was filling and I loved the mini steamer presentation with the pancakes. Orange chicken had the perfect balanced, sweet and spicy. My favorite was the curry chicken, just spicy enough. Princess prawns, rounded out our delicious meal. It was a lot for four people, but each one of us wanted to try something and I'm glad we did it that way. On top of it, two large Sapporos plus a large hot sakes equally a very affordable meal! (I learned I prefer cold sake.) We thought we were going for seafood because we were in Sausalito, but I'm so glad we went to Tommy's Wok. read more

We hadn't tried Tommy's Wok for at least a decade, so thought we'd try some takeout. It hasn't improved, unfortunately. The meat filling in the pot stickers was tasteless. The sauce on the shrimp with asparagus tasted more like soy than black bean. Shrimp with lobster sauce was likewise insipid. I've got to give them props for nice fresh vegetables in everything. The basil chicken was passable; the roast duck acceptable. So two stars. We might try them again in another ten years. read more

Upon arrival I noticed there's easy parking, and driving distance it's located about 5 minutes from downtown Sausalito. There's outdoor seating and plenty of indoor seating. We came on a Monday afternoon, right before dinner, and it was fairly slow. We were able to sit outside and service was prompt and fast. The serving sizes are good for two people. They say it's a large serving, but it's really good for just two people. To start we ordered the jumbo fried prawns. 6 came in the plate with a sweet and sour sauce, and a wasabi tasting sauce. The fried prawns were delicious! I liked them without any sauce. They were fried to perfection. For our entrees we got the kung pao chicken, beef satay (4 skewers served with Asian pickles and a peanut sauce) , and chicken chow mein. The kung Pao chicken was not spicy at all which was a bummer. The skewers were good in flavor but they probably weren't my favorite item. The chow mein was delicious! My favorite dish had to be the fried jumbo prawns. I definitely would probably order two orders of those next time with noodles. The establishment was clean, I loved the aquarium inside. For all of this food we paid about $78. It was a little pricey, but I'm glad we got to try this place as it always peaked our interest driving by it. read more

I'm SO glad I found this place! It's so rare to find Chinese food that is gluten free but more than half their menu is. Their website menu doesn't list things as GF but they are clearly labeled on their menu when you go in person. My partner and I ordered the Chow Fun and Szechuan Tofu and they were both DELICIOUS! Very disappointing take out. 3 of the 4 dishes were mediocre, and one was inedible (moo shoo chicken). The only thing about the dish that looked and tasted like moo shoo was the sauce which had the right flavor but bizarre texture. We will not return to this business and recommend you go elsewhere for Chinese food in Marin. read more

We were in the area, and wanted lunch before we made the drive home. We were lucky at this place was open, because we had a great experience. The place was not busy, but we were not there during peak anything hours. Greeted with a smile and offered our choice of seats. Which has the line right next to the aquarium because fish are cool. We ordered a lot for just the two of us so we would have leftovers to take home. The potstickers or fabulous. They were meaty and juicy and so full of flavor. The noodle was not too thick that overwhelmed the dumpling, and the dipping sauce was just fabulous. They did not make the trip home, my son finished them in the car. The chow fun was divne. It is always better when you can just taste how hot the walk was. I was that perfect dish just fulfilled my craving for good Chinese food. The Szechuan pork was a little bit of a letdown, it was not at all spicy. There is no Szechuan pepper in it at all, and it was just kind of a generic sweet. -ish sauce over the dish. I mentioned this to the server, and he knew exactly what I was talking about. It is somewhat catered to more the American taste and I should have spoken up and told them that I would like it to be Szechuan spicy; good to know for the future. Next time in Sausalito, I would definitely make a return trip here. And I will always remember if I order something spicy to tell them I want it to be spicy! I've been going there for quite awhile off and on. I've noticed they have gotten really stingy if you want the real small plastic cup of certain sauces. They want to charge you $4.00. Got a to go order and the food had so much salt on it, it was disgusting, had to throw it away. I also got an appetizer and that was not made properly. I called and told the guy who that answered the phone, he was very rude and obviously didn't want to reimburse me. Like any other restaurant if something is not right with your order, they'll reimburse immediately. That's how you run an honest and good business. I guess Tommy's Wok is not doing very good because they would not refund me for food I couldn't even eat and food that wasn't made properly. I will never waste my time or money going there for food that is not cooked correctly and those who are supposed to stand behind their food and business. If you like cheap crap food and service...like PANDA EXPRESS fast food, then you'll like the food from Tommy's Wok and you'll pay a a lot more for it! read more

During a recent visit we ordered the Honey Walnut Shrimp and found a piece of raw red meat (beef or pork) mixed in with the small side of pickles and carrots on the plate. I almost ate the raw meat before I noticed. I brought it to the staff's attention and asked for a fresh plate and fork since they've been contaminated. Another staff responded quickly and offered to have the kitchen remake the dish or remove the charge. We didn't want to eat it after that, so they removed the charge and cleared the half-eaten dish from our table. The shrimp in the Honey Walnut dish was large, but roughly half the plate was made up of pineapple chunks. We also ordered Mongolian Beef, Sizzling Beef, Asparagus Beef, and a chicken dish. The beef in all three beef dishes was unusually soft and didn't have bite we usually get from the stir-fried dishes. Thought about giving it only one star but the staff was understanding and responded quickly to the situation. The food was in the lower mid and wasn't worth the money spent. read more

The restaurant skimps on ingredients of traditional Cantonese dishes. A proper hot and sour soup has thin strips of pork tenderloin, black fungus, shiitake mushrooms, and a ribbon of scrambled eggs drizzled into the soup. This restaurant's version of the soup had none of these ingredients. The spicy lemongrass chicken was excellent. A traditional chow mein has ribbons of semi-crisp green cabbage, and it uses both light and dark soy sauces. This restaurant's version was missing the cabbage and had the flavor of just one type of soy sauce, and not a particularly good one. read more

I love Tommy's Wok! We've been eating there for over 25 years, and it is always good. The food is fresh and delicious. It is very healthy. They use gluten-free soy sauce, offer lettuce cups instead of wheat wraps, are relatively low-sodium, and always organic! They do not overcook the vegetables. That being said, what the actual heck is this? Rice drenched in soy sauce with some pork and a little egg. No scallions or carrots or peas. Ordered ToGo Lunch & got my order, went back to my clinic. When I got here, there was no fork so I wasted my time heading back to this restaurant & asked this lady I need fork so I can eat my togo lunch from them & she quipped "normally we don't give utensils anymore & that's our new rule or else we can charge you for that! " is this a new thing for restaurant or her BS!?!! I never like her from the start when I was buying food at their restaurant, every time I stepped in she has a mean look like I am not welcome.. Most of my patients rave about this restaurant but with her attitude i feel like i am buying a rotten food. I check other restaurants like Avatar next time. Icky feeling today! We liked Tommy's - we live nearby and finally (after a year) the time was right to stop in for a quick meal. Quick service - like we had to chase them away a few times, lol. Food was good - no complaints but not special enough for 5 stars. Wish they would make a normal Singapore noodles - and adding chicken and shrimp is just weird. Also would like to see curry shrimp , shrimp and broccoli and other dishes on a Chinese menu. Tea was nice. What kind of tea? "One kind". Lol.
