I should have expected this place would be pricey bc there were no prices on the dim sum menu (convenient when they raise prices). Best choices were the individual Peking Duck servings and the sticky rice in lotus leaf (generous portion). Less interesting pork buns too much dough), peas shoot dumplings and veggie dumplings which were kind of chewy (wrapper). Did a takeout order at Harmony in Mill Valley. They have a takeout area where you can order and takeout near the kitchen or you can dine which they have a nice area to sit. Since I do takeout the staff is friendly and helpful. I cot chow mein, fried rice, egg roll, and shu mai. They have a few other things on the hot bar which you order and the server gets it for you. They are a bit pricey, but their food is good. They do have a dim sum menu. It's your typical Chinese restaurant, but one of the better ones in Marin. read more

I've passed Harmony countless times and always assumed it was some sort of furniture or home décor store (the West Elm adjacency is misleading), so I was genuinely surprised to learn it was a Chinese restaurant. I went in curious and optimistic -- unfortunately, the experience fell flat almost immediately. Upon entering, no one acknowledged us or greeted us at the door. For a restaurant that presents itself as modern and slightly upscale, that lack of front-of-house awareness was noticeable and set an awkward tone from the start. We ordered the vegetable cake, a dish I'm very familiar with and usually love. Texturally, it was decent -- soft inside with a lightly crisp exterior -- but the flavor missed the mark. It tasted under-seasoned yet strangely heavy, with an excess of oil that lingered on the palate. Instead of feeling clean and balanced, it felt weighed down. For context, Palate Garden Party executes this dish far better: brighter flavor, better seasoning, and far less grease -- and at a lower price point. Even with the longer drive, the difference in quality makes it worth it. Dessert was a banana sesame roll dumpling dish that sounded promising on paper. The first bite was interesting, but that novelty disappeared quickly. The dumpling skin was far too thick and overly crunchy, almost stale-textured, which overwhelmed the filling. The interior lacked cohesion and finesse, and the cinnamon flavor felt muddled rather than intentional. We didn't finish it. Across the board, the food leaned excessively greasy, to the point where it didn't feel good to eat. I left feeling heavy and uncomfortable rather than satisfied. The flavors never quite came together, the quality didn't feel refined, and there wasn't enough charm or warmth to compensate for the technical misses. Overall, this isn't a place I'd return to or recommend. There are far better options for Chinese food that offer cleaner flavors, better execution, and a more thoughtful dining experience. read more

This is a great spot. The dim sum was very tasty and quite speedy. The crescent mushroom dumplings were my favorite. Everything comes out piping hot. I came specifically for the vegetarian/ vegan dim sum and Harmony did not disappoint. I ordered the leek & corn dumplings, grilled turnip cakes, lotus leaf rice (request veg) and pea shoots with shiitake mushrooms. While my $55 total before tip was a bit steep for a lunch for one, I was still glad I got to try the food because it's not often that I can find vegan dim sum especially the lotus leaf rice. The food was absolutely bland in flavor and forgettable. The service was slow and the wait staff acted as if they were doing us a favor by taking our order. This is the third time we've eaten here. While Harmony won't be on the Bib Gourmand list anytime soon, it does have the cozy broken-in charm of a neighborhood stalwart. The moody dining room and unfailingly warm service are a draw, making you feel at home whether or not you're a first-timer; it's clear many of the patrons are far from being first-timers and that familiarity is part of the appeal. My Chinese Chicken Salad (sub tofu for chicken; that option is a huge plus) arrived bland and dry, but some extra spicy mustard that is brought to every table breathed some new life into it. I'd suggest coating the romaine much more generously to make each bite count. Right now, the only satisfying bites were ones including the tofu, which was a hero flavor that couldn't quite elevate the entire dish on its own. However, I'll reiterate how appreciated it is that they do the substitution making the salad vegetarian. I wouldn't be unhappy returning, but I wouldn't venture too far out of my way to do so. read more

My family of 4 went there around 5:30 pm and it didn't look busy. The host at the front desk didn't even acknowledge us and actually looked at us at least 5 time, just walking passed us. We waiting for about 20 mins and still no acknowledge so we walk out. Very unprofessional and not welcoming environment. I would not recommend this place. Bad host, bad service. When we got to our destination and started eating, we were disappointed to discover that the way over priced food was all room temperature. Went here for lunch recently. Got tofu and a turnip cake. Both dishes exceeded expectation. Certainly a unique take on classic asian flavors. Winston was a wonderful and very prompt server. For a very long time, I dubbed this restaurant "The Best Chinese Food In Marin". I have not been back here to eat since before Covid. I had the Wonton Soup, the Spring Rolls and the Garlic Bok Choi. DO NOT EAT HERE. I should have read the reviews! Horrible service. I mean, the worst. The table next to us was sat after us, ordered, ate and left before we got the first of the four dishes we ordered. It took an hour and a half to be served! The food was disgusting. I can't imagine they have tasted their own food. The waiter never came back to check on how our meal was, after it was eventually served. We ultimately had to go stand up at the front for ten minutes to pay for our food. I left a 10% tip, out of sheer decency. The cashier pulled the server over to tell him that I was being "cheap", so that I could hear. Presumably, this was meant to coerce me to add more to the tip, as the cashier was shoving the credit card machine back in my face. I let them both know that we would never be back. As you might expect at this point, they had no response to that. Oh, and I should add that the appetizer and three dishes I ordered came to $110.00. I ordered noodles, and vegetables. Not worth It, to say the least. The decor was lovely. UPDATE: both of us are now exploding from both ends, fighting for the toilet, only hours after eating there. I'm so desperate for good Chinese food! So Marin+strawberry Village+Chinese apparently = Way the hell over priced! I will say the food tasted great! That warrants 3 stars. The turnip cake was crispy outside and inside a nice diced mushroom surprise inside. The xiaolongbao dumplings were flavorful and abundant if you were GI Joe bringing Malibu Barbie here for a date. I've seen blueberries bigger than those. We also got the chow fun with Chicken. While it tasted great and had proportionally tons of thin sliced chicken, the noods were a bit clumpy. Disappointing because I can make clumpy noods at home for free and not pay 17 bucks. Lastly the Orange chicken was surprisingly good, not over syrupy sweet with thick viscous neon Orange sauce. Ok instead they used mango so it was neon yellow. But because of the mango it made it not to sweet, plenty of peppers onions, carrot n broccoli. Solid dish sans rice. But when was the last time you paid $60 bucks for Chinese lunch? Oh yeah when you had maybe 4-5 people right? There was only 2 of us. Damn it! Like Kevin, I know what I'm walking into but the cool decor, the friendly service, and location make this difficult to pass up when you are in Marin hankering for solid Cantonese. Number 2 son and I came once before strictly for Dim sum. All I can say is look at that chocolate sesame ball... when you cut it open you are expecting a oohy gooey, filled center bursting with flavor. Dim sum is one of the most wonderful foods in the world. Except when it isn't. It's not that Harmony is bad. It's not. And when craving dumplings in Marin it may be your best option. For lunch today tried shrimp gow, scallop sui mai, the sticky rice and sweet dumpling. The steamed dumplings were fine but nothing special. The sticky rice seemed more water logged than sticky. And the fried sweet dumpling was semi tasty but fully greasy - the only part of the order I regretted. Interior is appealing and comfortable and service is... serviceable. I'm sure I'll be back when dumpling cravings strike, but my expectations will be managed. read more

Best dim sum in Marin hands-down. Can't go wrong here. Everything is delicious. The Chinese chicken salad has a super kick to it so beware.... If you like hot mustard it's your deal. The tiny pieces of crispy chicken make it delightful experience. The Chinese food dishes, like crispy beef, and Mongolian beef or you know any of the traditional Chinese food restaurant dishes at Harmony are more than five stars delicious the portions aren't huge. They're on the small side and it is a little bit pricey, but it's worth every penny. It's so good I promise you will not be disappointed if you go. The steamed dumplings and buns are made fresh and you can just tell when biting into them fresh veggies and whatever you have inside - just amazing. I love dim sum. When I lived in Hawaii, I had dim sum every week, and easily would have continued that after moving back here- there just isn't much dim sum around! We found this place after exhausting our options north, and not wanting to drive all the way to the city. Despite covid, it was packed in line to place our order, and their takeout area was super popular as well. I decided I wanted to get an assortment to try a bit of everything: Veggie greens ($4.65), crispy won tons ($4.95), Imperial Potstickers ($6.95), sweet rice dumplings ($5.65), grilled turnip cake ($6.95), bbq pork buns ($6.95), leek and corn dumplings ($6.25), and XLB ($6.95). It looked like a lot, but most of them were small so we had one each and a few left over. Honestly of all of them, none were stand-out. I definitely felt like the quality was ok, but the precision on the dim sum was lacking. It wasn't that we let them sit and get soggy, no. We immediately opened the boxes and ate them right there on a table outside, so it wasn't that we didn't eat them in the right environment or anything. They were just really mediocre. In addition to their general ho-hum flavors, I definitely thought the items were overpriced. The portions were small, and it wasn't that they were some specialty item that was really hard to get or anything. I'm not sure why things were so bland and the detail was just missing. For example- the xlb, which should have soup in it, with a nice little droop when you pick it up, was dry and starchy inside. Sad. Parking is plentiful and free outside, once you find it in the mall. Now that people can eat onsite, the restaurant is spacious and has an inviting aesthetic. I really wanted to like these dishes, because the options to choose from in terms of dim sum are so limited...but this is just not going to do it for me. I'll probably give them one more shot before giving up, if I can convince hubby to go back with me. Otherwise, I will have to resign myself to SF, where the real goodness is! read more

It was our second time here today, and the service was absolutely horrible. When we walked in the server pointed us to the back corner table and said he'd follow us there. That never happened. We got waters, still no menu. We got sauces, still no menu. The two tables sat after us received menus. The table next to us flagged you over to say their tea was cold and they still hadn't ordered. You saw us, still no menus. After 15 minutes we got up and walked out. I can't explain how yucky it feels to be ignored at a restaurant, but here I am trying. My husband is a restauranteur, so it's even more frustrating when we have to experience something like this. Seems like they are sorely understaffed. We really wanted to love this place, but sadly won't be back anytime soon. read more

Five of us celebrated a friend's birthday at Harmony recently and were SO impressed by the quality of the food and the efficient and friendly service. We drove from the Belmont to Mill Valley which took over an hour with traffic, but the dining experience was well worth the trip. The contemporary style of the interior is welcoming and comfortable while being stylish, the noise level was not an issue in the least, our waiter and host were friendly and so accommodating. But, let's chat about the wonderful food! The Tea Smoked Duck was perfectly prepared, scallops were just as tasty, very fresh, and really good sized. We also enjoyed the Minced Lamb in Radicchio Cups, jumbo prawns, Chinese chicken salad, Chinese broccoli, Organic Leek & Sweet Corn Steamed Dumplings, Harmony Signature Beef, and the Banana Sesame Ball for dessert. The flavors were unique and delicious! The owner, Norm, came to our table and is quite the story teller! He spoke about his passion for working with farms and quality food suppliers to discover and find ingredients for the dishes prepared at Harmony. Harmony has been his passion for twenty plus years, survived through the pandemic, and its due to his dedication to his staff, the quality of the food, and his love of providing excellent food to his guests. I am very disappointed with how harmony restaurant lies on their menu about their salmon. The salmon they serve here is imported farm salmon that is labeled as "all natural". There is nothing natural about salmon that is raised in pens and fed pellet food filled with PCBs and dioxins. Please be more responsible in how you label your seafood. Smh read more

Beautiful interior, very comfortable seating, excellent service, nice noise volume. The menu choices are extensive, our server gave us thoughtful guidance. Everything was delicious and perfectly prepared with quality ingredients. We should have asked for lemon or something acidic for the chicken salad, otherwise it was quite different and surprisingly filling. We weren't wild about the steamed dumplings but that's merely our personal taste, the ingredients were good. We look forward to returning and exploring the menu in more depth. Being the only testing of its kind now from Sausalito to Petaluma they have kept their eye on th ball for quite some time. Novato: I usually frequently 6 different similar outlets in San Francisco but I wanted to. Mix things up a bit. Harmony is closer to the high end Chinese restaurants in San Francisco's Chinatown. Harmony is a convenient opportunity in fine quick e as well as lunch freshness. Items on the menu are slightly different here: in a wonderful way. The staff is entirely professional and customer forward. I did have to ask for a couple accessories more than once to more than one person. Location cannot be beat, including ample parking. The prices are not at all discounted but not expensive. In the recent past, one could expect to pay a very reasonable amount at other takeout joints in San Francisco: as inflation and supply chain greed have debilitated and decimated the restaurant industry, it is quite interesting to discover Harmony's pricing already set at the high end did not increase relative to their original margins.
