I'm not sure what menu we were looking up online but when we came to pick up the food we ordered we were absolutely shocked that it came out to $65... The online menu didn't match that at all. We paid it without saying anything because we never asked for the total over the phone. So for $65, how was it? Well, it was very average and no better than other Chinese places that cost half as much. When it comes to the specifics of the food, the Walnut shrimp was flavorless, the sweet and sour pork was ok, the lemon chicken was meh, the chicken chow mein was fine, and the veggie egg rolls were decent. And for $65, I shouldn't be using words like "ok" to describe the food. And that's why China Villa gets 3 stars from me.

Meh... The food was alright, but the service was seriously sub-par. I don't even blame the server; she was the only worker in the restaurant, and, between helping us and taking phone orders, she did the best she could. Our food took forever and arrived at different times. Checks took even longer. Water refills seemed to be by-request only, and it wasn't easy to attract her attention from across the room. I tried the vegetarian chicken and broccoli. My friend got prawns with peanuts, and what he considered to be far too many water chestnuts. We split a pot of steamed rice and got some hot chili oil for drizzling. For the most part I enjoyed my entree. The sauce was superb and there was plenty of broccoli. Sadly, though, there was something a little off about the "chicken" and I couldn't place what it was--the texture?--the taste?--both? I'm still not sure, but it had an overly soft musty quality that I wasn't a fan of. I probably would have enjoyed it more had I ordered tofu instead, but our server didn't speak the best English and I chose not to confuse her with any alterations. My friend ate the prawns and left the rest, so I tried a bit of his as well, and it was good, particularly the peanuts. Overall, it was decent Chinese fare, but they seriously need to hire more staff.

Came here on a weekday and dine-in. Only three tables available to eat at as they are still following COVID regulations. Ordered the house combo chow fun (pork, shrimp, and beef), seasoning was so flavorful, but all the protein was over cooked. Also ordered the egg flower soup and I was surprised it had tomatoes. I was kinda skeptical at first but it had a balanced of sweet and salty. Will come back here again. Staff was attentive and kind. Prices were still reasonable and were not inflated.

Good food, you just need to be specific on instructions. I like that you can dine in or have it delivered.

I truly loved the sizzling rice soup and the vegetable fried rice. Food is ready in 20 minutes, it's mostly take out since Covid.

They changed ownership and I think the food is even better than the previous owner. Great place for large groups!

My wife and I have been coming here for 30 years, and will still come in 3 times a month. It's far from pretentious, and when it's good.. it's great! On an off day, it's just good. While it used to be an amazing value, post Covid, it's a good value. Their rolls are fantastic; their 'Crab Specials' are to die for! super friendly team! show up twice and they'll know your name. Not to put off the sushi snobs, but they also serve Chinese food. I think it's about the best chinese food in San Rafael, though San Rafael does not set a high bar. Go check them out. You won't be sorry.

Being originally from central California it's hard to find comparable Chinese food in Marin County…read more The shrimp fried rice is a 7/10 and was the best item I tried during my visit. I also had lemon chicken and beef and broccoli. I expected the lemon chicken to be similar to sweet and sour chicken/pork or orange chicken where the batter/outside is fried and crispy and the chicken/pork in the center is seasoned and tender. The batter/outside was for lack of a better word "soggy" but the saucy was lemon forward with a slight tang. I'll rate it a 5/10. The beef and broccoli had a strong ginger flavor that I was a fan of, so I would rate it a 2/10. The service was fast and attentive and the restaurant itself is average not fancy and not rundown. I've already visited again and my opinion has not changed.

I'd give a -100 if I could. After being a happy customer here for years, we had an awful experience…read moreyou should know about. On 12/24/25, we couldn't get through their regular phone number quite a few times due to a busy signal. We then placed a Door Dash order at 4:50pm. After the app updating the delivery time several times, the order was suddenly "cancelled by the restaurant." We were really looking forward to our dinner for two hours, so you can imagine our disappointment and scrambling for alternatives on Christmas Eve. We did receive a refund for the exact amount that was charged to the credit card. We had decided to try the restaurant again on 12/31/25. Again, we couldn't get through. So I went in person to place the order to ask why the restaurant cancelled our 12/24/25 order. I've never heard of a confirmed order being cancelled before. They said they "cancel Door Dash orders at 6:30pm. A lot of people were disappointed, too." I said but we had placed our order at 4:50pm. I couldn't understand his reasoning. We decided to never use them again. Despite our terrible inconvenience and decision to never dine here again, we decided to place an order today 12/31/25 at 4:19pm for pick-up in person, so I could ask in person what happened on 12/24/25. They said today's order would take 25-30 minutes. It was ready at 4:37pm. That was redeemable, but we still don't understand what happened on 12/24:25 and don't feel confident that it will never happen again. So I imagine the lesson learned is beware of placing Door Dash orders at this restaurant! See photos for proof of our experience.

No cutlery, no chopsticks (yep, we love them), one packet of soy sauce for three dishes, no napkins, a bunch of fortune cookies (yay), and didn't even fold the crab rangoon. Ok, the food. Mongolian beef- not sure this is beef. Very sure it had NO flavor. Pork (just kidding, they do chicken) fried rice-- bland. Flavorless. Mid, as my kid would say. General Tso's-- why was it mixed with water chestnuts? Why wasn't it spicy? Why was it mushy? What was the green veggie in it?!? Crab Rangoon-- well, crab triangles, because they couldn't be bothered to prepare them properly. Spent over $100 on this crap. But hey, got extra fortune cookies, so guess we should cheer. Yawn. Overall. Gross. Disappointed. And very glad we didn't have to deal with the crappy staff, per the other reviews that I 100% believe. Do better. Or just close this garbage hole up. Two stars, because we included our delivery guy. Otherwise, yeah, -10.
