This is one of our go-to spots whenever we're craving Pad See Ew. The food is consistently good, the portions are satisfying, and the customer service is always friendly and welcoming. While not every dish is a standout, we've had enough positive experiences here to keep coming back. Here's what we thought about our latest order: Som Tum - Very fresh and packed with flavor, but it was a bit too zesty for my personal taste. While it wasn't bad at all, it's probably not something I would order again. Kai Ka Prow - I decided to try something new, and the flavors definitely did not disappoint. The chicken was slightly dry, but the seasoning and overall flavor profile made up for it. A solid dish that I'd consider ordering again. Pad See Ew (Beef) - This is my go-to dish and it delivered as expected. Some pieces of beef were more tender than others, but the dish itself was full of flavor. The portion of meat was generous, making it a satisfying meal. Golden Crab Rangoon - One of our favorite appetizers. First time at this small restaurant and I'm genuinely impressed! We started with the namsod as an appetizer--so flavorful and refreshing. I ordered a Thai-style Tom Yum noodle soup (off the menu), and it was incredibly authentic--I absolutely loved it! I also got a lemonade, and it was really good--light, refreshing, and perfectly balanced. The server was super friendly and attentive, even bringing out a variety of spices for us to try. My friends ordered the Pad Thai and Mango Curry, and they both really enjoyed their dishes. To top it all off, we shared a fried banana with ice cream for dessert, and it was so good--crispy, warm, and paired perfectly with the cold, creamy ice cream. I love the food here typically- great flavor and portion sizes. However my recent take out order was very disappointing. The beef pad thai was as expected. Crushed peanuts on the top did spill everywhere when we opened the container which was a little annoying. The Gang Karee Prawns entree was very watery and bland. Tiny pieces of potatoes and not many shrimp. It felt more like a soup than an entree. The Larb ped was odd... I'm not sure what I was expecting, but it was an extremely small portion with half of the container being lettuce, then the entree was diced duck, onions, and lots of vinegar. The food is still good and the atmosphere solid. The service is on the weak side. They serve appetizers and 5 minutes later bring out the main dishes. I do not want to be rushed. Let patrons enjoy the appetizers before serving the mains. They also serve one person at our table first and then the other persons food comes out 15 minutes later. Very amateur service overall. The Thai food here is always so delicious! Our table ordered potstickers, crab Rangoons, pad see yew with shrimp, pompano fish, and pa-nang with eggplant and pork. Everything was phenomenal!! My personal favorites are the crab rangoons and pad see yew. The restaurant always seems to have plenty of seating available, indoor seating only. I've also seen many people do take-out orders. I'd recommend coming to sit inside to eat as the staff is very friendly! I like all of the decor in the restaurant and everytime I've come in it is clean and tidy. I have heard so many things about this restaurant, and I really wanted to try it, so I finally convinced my husband to go with me for lunch. I specifically wanted to try the duck noodle soup as it has been recommended to me. We split that and the red curry with steamed egg noodles. Both were unbelievable and some of the best noodle soups that I've had- in the Bay Area. Lunch was super reasonable, too. For both of our dishes, hot tea and tip (20%) our bill was less than $40. I came by for dinner with a friend on a Saturday night. We arrived a little before 7pm and the restaurant had 5 tables with groups of two occupied. We were greeted at the door and was asked to sit wherever was opened. We ordered the Pad Thai Noodle with shrimp (#71), Gang Keow Wan with Chicken (#25A), Pad Ka-Nar (#66), and a side of steamed rice to share between 2 people. The Pad Thai was pretty good, a bit more saucy that I anticipated but it did have a good amount of flavors. Pad Thai with shrimp was $13.95 compared to if you got it with chicken, beef, or pork which was $12.95. There were 5 shrimps in the dish with a good amount of tofu. I honestly love tofu so I did not mind the amount. There was a good side of crushed peanuts on the dish which I enjoyed because it gave it the crunch it needed. The Gang Keow Wan ($12.95) was this green curry with chicken and veggies. This green curry was delicious! Packed with so much flavor, with the added spice, it was sure a winner! So good that you just wanted to drink it up like a soup! The steamed rice ($2.50) really helped you soak up all the curry flavor. Lastly for the Pad Ka-Nar ($11.95), it was good. Out of everything we ordered, this was pretty standard. A mix of mushrooms, bell peppers and plain broccoli. We opted for this dish because we wanted some veggies with our meal. The veggies were cooked well aka not soggy so that is a plus. Overall, for about $45 before tip, it was worth it. The service was quick and friendly, and the food was pretty good. I ordered take out here for a pad thai with shrimp and pad see ew with beef. They said it would be ready in about 15-20mins. When I opened my food, I thought it looked under seasoned and would taste plain. First bite was delicious and I was completely wrong. Really good flavor! The portions did look small because they wrapped it up in a foil but it's a decent amount. I couldn't even finish my pad Thai. You do need to mix your noodles because there was a lot of sauce on the bottom. I really liked the side of salad that came with the meal. Overall, really impressed with the food here. I went here to order take out right after they opened for two person lunch meeting. I was the only customer so I ordered a beer, ordered, and waited. By the time I got my small order six couples had come in, ordered and were already eating before I finally got my take out order. I will never trust them again! read more

On Friday September 19th, my party of four went to the Chao Praya Thai Restaurant for lunch. We all ordered and upon our food being brought to our table we noticed a fairly large cockroach on our table and a second one going up the drapery next to our table. We called the server over and she attempted to kill the one on the drapery with a napkin but was unable to trap it. We immediately stopped eating and told the server we were leaving and would not be finishing our meals. The manager at my bank subsequently informed me that the restaurant had charged my debit card for the entire amount of the meals, $60.67. He said he couldn't stop the charge, but I should return to the restaurant and get a refund in cash which I did on September 22nd. On September 23rd, my bank manager informed me that the restaurant had again charged my card for a second time for the full amount of the four meals. This was following the cash refund I was given. I went back to the restaurant a second time, however now they refused to reverse the charge, so I am going to dispute this charge and see if I can get it reversed. I am writing this as a cautionary warning to those thinking of dining at Chao Praya in Novato. The restaurant is obviously unsanitary and dirty. As a good will gesture they should have at least refunded the cost of the food we left unfinished but eventually they refused. I used to dine there at least once or twice a month but believe me, never again! read more
