Sad, sad, sad is how I feel writing this review and how I felt dining in for lunch on a Tuesday. The restaurant uses the kitchen at the Mt Tam Racquet Club. Their days there aren't consistent. That's a bit frustrating. I walked in today and I grabbed a menu, which did not include the specials that I received via email, and I sat at a high top. The only server helped the woman that came in before me, and then he piddled around behind the counter before coming over to me and asking if I wanted to eat. I get emails from East meet West so I know they have specials and what they're serving. I inquired about the differences between the two hamburgers. And he looked at me confused. I said I can't pull up the menu on my phone because I'm not connected to the Wi-Fi, but you have two different burgers on the online menu can you please let me know what the differences are. He went and looked it up on the computer and came back and said one has lettuce tomato onion and the other has coleslaw. I'm pretty sure the seasoning in the meat is different. I decided to go with the Pad Se Ew with chicken. And I asked for some crispy wings to go. The food was good. I enjoyed it. It was fresh. It had good flavor and here's the kicker. I would've ordered maybe three dishes to go except their to go containers are Styrofoam which one, is the most unhealthy product you can put food in especially warm food and two, Styrofoam containers are illegal in most Marin county cities. Apparently Larkspur is not one of them. I'm surprised that the chef who puts out delicious dishes would compromise the integrity of his food and put it in a petroleum-based product. So, I asked the server if all the takeout containers were Styrofoam and and he replied yes and I said I would like to cancel the chicken wings because I won't accept styrofoam for my food. I was a bit shocked when he brought the chicken wings to the table and I looked at him and I said I canceled this order. He took the dish back to the kitchen. The server brought me the check and I gave him cash, because I like to pay cash to small businesses. I also like to tip cash. He didn't have change. He said he had to go get some and I said would it be more convenient to pay with a card and he said yes. So I handed him my card. He ran it. He asked if I wanted the receipt. It already printed out so I said yes and I said where do I put the tip and he goes oh, you need to put the tip on the original copy that I gave you. Apparently at the Mt Tam racket club you have to tip before they run your credit card because after they run it you can't add a tip. If East meet West can find a location where they're open at least five days a week, can find servers that actually know what they're doing and don't offer toxic takeout containers, this restaurant would be a fine addition to Marin. read more

Discovered this place this afternoon on Yelp and was curious to try it out. I placed my order around 2 PM ish and this place is open at 5pm. I got my order confirmation for 6:15 - 6:35pm. My order arrived a few minutes early just in time for our dinner as I cooked other things and wanted to have them with Tom Yum Goong. Since it was my first time ordering from here, I only ordered Tom Yum Goong (small container) for $8 and added shrimp/prawns for extra $4. I also ordered their dessert, Roti ($7). I was worried if the roti would be too small so I ordered and guess what, they showed up in 4 big pieces! Here's my honest opinion: Tom Yum Goong was cooked in a different style, it actually reminded me of how my grandma cooked Tom Yum Goong. Besides choosing meat or vegetables in your Tom Yum, you can also choose how spicy you want and I went for level 3 (which I regretted not picking the 5) it wasn't so spicy but not bad either. I also LOVED the roti. It was quite sweet but I couldn't stop eating. Will definitely order it again! I have seen other dishes on the menu that I'd like to try so until next time! read more

Really disappointed. Perhaps based on reviews and my love of Thai food I had expectations that far exceeded what we received. We ordered quite an array of entrees and sides and all were subpar. The only more palatable ones were the larb salad and spicy basil chicken. The chicken for ALL the dishes was dry and well over cooked. The wings had a nice flavor but the texture, and again, the moisture, was terrible. Fish cakes were not worth the calories. Thai coconut soup may have been the worst soup I've ever had. We were starving and even then were severely disappointed. If we ever had to order again (IF), I would not order any chicken as the protein. Never again. Have lived in the East Bay and travelled to Thailand many times. Not worth the expense ($16 for an overcook entree. Just go dine-in somewhere where the food will definitely better and there's actual service included in the pricing). Better yet, get out of Marin and order from somewhere in SF or EB. read more

What a lucky neighborhood find! East Meets West is a "take-away" located inside the Marin Tennis Center, just north of downtown San Rafael. We ordered dinner (online through their website) last night. This is the best Thai food we've had in the Bay Area! The Ginger Stir Fry (+chicken) was superb. Very flavorful and fresh. (My husband said it's the best he's had anywhere!) The Pad Thai (I ordered extra veggies and organic tofu +$4), was a large portion, and quite good. Lots of fresh tofu, but not many vegetables. The Prik Num Pla (spicy condiment $2) added a wonderful kick to our dishes. We can't wait to try their many other dishes! The only thing keeping this from 5 stars was that a mix up had prevented my order from being seen by the chef. Although an email and text confirmed a 5:05 deliver to my car curbside), it hadn't been by 5:20. I went inside to see what the hold up was, and unfortunately, the chef hadn't seen the order. He was extremely apologetic, offered me a coffee while i waited, and within 15 min I had my piping hot order. Apparently, you must order after 5p, when the kitchen opens (even though their website will accept your order and confirm a delivery time). While there are many wonderful things about Marin County, but I don't feel like that there are many quality places to get authentic -- to use a very broad term -- ethnic food. But if you're looking for Thai food in east Marin, this is your spot. My family and friends have ordered several times from here and have yet to be disappointed. The flavors are upfront and when you order something spicy, it's actually spicy -- much to my mother-in-law's chagrin. They cook out of the Marin Club's kitchen, they're tucked away in the back. Last night was one of those nights where we were bored of our norma takeout choices and randomly stumbled upon East Meet West on Yelp. I've never been to the restaurant but according to the website and reviews this is a takeout only spot. We ordered delivery via Yelp and 40 min later we're sitting down to eat. First bite "oh my god, this is good", second bite "why have I never tasted Thai food this good", third bite "oh my freaking god this is good" * chorus of "oh my god" continues throughout the meal. We went with some traditional choices of pad thai, yellow curry and spring rolls and each dish exceeded our expectations. The real showstopper was the drunken noodles (mild because of the kids), a saucy savory stir fry with flat wide rice noodles. Excellent Thai dishes by chef Birt. Everything I've tried on the menu so far have been great.

The pictures look nothing like the food we received. We got the spicy basil over rice was mostly steamed mix vegetables. The sweet and sour sauce on the veggi spring rolls was mostly jelly, the spring roll was both over cooked and soggy, the rad na broth was a gelatinous gravy. There was no Asian broccoli in the dish and noodles were way over cooked. The laarb salad was alright. read more

Tucked away behind the Marin tennis courts so a little hard to find but they will bring you your order to the parking lot no problem if you call upon arrival. Sooooooooooooooo delicious, I agree that this is the best wonton soup I've had in decades and might be the best "east meets west" dining north of the gate, total hidden gem and the descriptions on the menu are so filled with lobe and history, got a lesson and fed. Was in the mood for healthy but quick food. Found this place. Walked in and there was no one behind the counter. Waited a few minutes before ringing the bell. Waited again for a few more minutes before ringing the bell again. Eventually a nice girl came out from the back room and helped us. Two salads were ordered. Added chicken to both and avocado to one. Ordered two drinks and the total was $46. To me this is a lot of money for two salads. The amount of chicken was a very small portion. I'd guess less than two ounces of chicken. The makings were all there for an awesome salad but it lacked in amount for the price. I recommend adding more to the salad if you're going to charge that much or drop the price since you don't get a lot for the price paid. The salad was good. But not great. read more

After eating the food from East Meet West (twice now), I can honestly say it's my favorite Thai food in Marin. The flavors are on point and when I specified medium spicy for the dishes, they actually put some heat in there unlike some of the other places in the area. I'm also selfishly writing this review because I really want this place to succeed and I'm hoping they'll have a permanent spot one day. Please support this gem! read more

The food here is delicious and authentic! We ordered a take-out lunch yesterday and had the yellow curry with chicken, pad Thai with tofu and veggies, drunken noodles with beef, and fresh rolls. Everything was absolutely wonderful! The yellow curry is sublime. Both noodle dishes were rich in flavor, delectable. The fresh rolls were very good -- with mango and avocado, which was unexpected. The portions are huge, which justifies the prices. I called ahead to ask questions because we have allergies in our family and they were super helpful. I am sad they have almond sauce instead of the usual peanut as we have almond allergies in our family and we love Thai peanut sauce. But other than that, we are 100% satisfied and are thrilled we finally have great Thai food in Marin. read more
