A picture speaks a thousand words, so I'll leave you with a photo of the Pad See Ew I received tonight in my delivery order. The bell pepper, beans, and cilantro were an unpleasant touch - but most of all the lack of sauce was horrible. The unsauced noodles were stuck together, the chicken had virtually no seasoning or sauce on it, and the overall color was way too light. My Thai USED to be good. The noodles used to be so flavorful it was my favorite place. They must have gotten a new chef or something because.. it's literally disgusting now. I ordered my usual (pad see ew) and I get uncooked, gummy, white clumps of noodles that don't even look like they ever touched a pan. A decent place to grab Thai food in the area if you have a hankering for it. The service is friendly and not super in-your-face with the check-ins. The decor is warm and welcoming, making it a cozy spot to visit. Our most recent visit was a bit of a flop. We ordered: roti, fried tofu, green curry paste fried rice, and Rad Nar. (all but the tofu was disappointing) The roti was $12 which was pretty expensive for a small appetizer, but we gave it a go thinking maybe this would be special. It wasn't. I would skip this one. It was the same roti you'd get at most Thai places but at more than double the cost. It could've been an off day.. not sure, but ours came really undercooked and was soggy. I reluctantly sent it back to get crisped up. It was really really disappointing. On the bright side, the server didn't seem to take any offense to this and was accommodating. The fried tofu was a bit light on the fry but it was crispy enough. We've had it crispier in our other visits. Curry fried rice was light on all the aromatics... I don't know if the flavors are toned down for this market or if it was a different chef but I hate to say it was extremely bland. I ended up adding pepper flakes and pickled peppers to spruce up the flavor. Rad Nar.... not-so-rad... Maybe it's an acquired taste? This dish uses the wide flat rice noodles and comes in a soy bean gravy. Most of the wide noodles were clumped together and the gravy was basically clear gloop. There wasn't much of a fermented soy bean flavor at all, or any flavor for that matter. This was the most bland dish we had that night. Bland and gloopy. So. Gloopy. It was not enjoyable. Thai food usually is a giant flavor bomb of opposing flavors and textures that magically work together (heat and sweet, tangy and creamy, crispy and soft....). Everything we ordered during this visit was simply bland. I really hope it was just an off day for the kitchen. Our other two visits were "ok" (I'm recognizing that maybe the flavors are a bit toned down given the location) but not disappointing like our most recent visit. This isn't to say the food is bad, my intention is to share some honest feedback for those who frequent Thai food to temper their expectations. Stop in anyway? Let me know your thoughts! read more

We order this every single weekend for pickup. They don't always include the rice. Today, After 20 minutes arguing with 2 people behind the counter they said the rice was not included yet, the website clearly states it. they tried to say this lunch menu is only during the weekdays even after we showed them the website advertisement. We won't be back. The rice costs cents to make and for $18, almost $21 after tax they are trying to give you just 3 sewers of meat and no rice...scammers. read more

Just had an amazing lunch at My Thai in downtown San Rafael. Great selection, fresh and delicious!

I was in town on vacation, saw the good reviews and rating so went in for a try. The restaurant was really busy with a lot of Togo orders. No staff was paying attention to us and we did not get seated for about 5 minutes even there were empty tables. The servers were not attentive for our orders. My money was not well spent there. We ordered spring rolls, pad Thai with beef and pineapple fried rice. The spring rolls tasted fresh and the combination of ingredients were great. However, it's on the pricey side. The portions of the pad Thai and pineapple fried rice were small with that price. For the pad Thai, I only tasted ketchup, there was only a few pieces of beef. I'm a little disappointed since they had such good revives and they have like 100 "Best of Marin" plaques all over the walls. But it was only okay for us. The crab cake was delicious but the green curry wasn't so great. The flavor was good but the veggies were hardly cooked and the menu clearly says there's eggplant in the dish, but we had zero eggplant. Our waiter wasn't very friendly either. He did tell us that they don't even have eggplant... so why is it in the menu? Weird. read more

One of my buddies asked what we should eat for lunch and I thought long and hard and we ended up at My Thai. I realized that all of our food was created with quality ingredients in a medley of flavors, textures and heat. I don't much care for the patio dining appearance and I wish they made it more permanent if the city allows. We had a variety of dishes: -Beef salad- grilled marinated pieces of beef among greens with pickled julienned carrots, radish and beet with a citrus lime dressing- wasn't a small salad and it was filling and refreshing. The beef was tasty and soft. -Chicken coconut soup: tangy and creamy with tender pieces of chicken -Pork pad thai: soft pork with sauced noodles. 2 people could share this dish -Green curry: it had a nice kick and wasn't too thin. It had a good amount of veggies- it was great with the coconut rice. -Barbecue chicken: big pieces of tender marinated chicken All of the dishes were enough to share among 2 people with a side of rice and they weren't overly salty. I recommend getting the sticky rice and the coconut rice was pretty good too. I thought the prices were reasonable for what you got. My family and I are regulars at My Thai. We have also had large group dinners there. Food is good. Tonight we had to wait quite awhile before anyone came from the back to seat us. Almost 10 minutes. Restaurant was close to empty except for a large party. Our waitress was great as usual. Towards the end of the meal a young man came out and told us My Thai is closing now, was there anything else we wanted. He seemed impatient and uptight and we felt really rushed. I told him we were feeling rushed and he said that what he meant to say was that the the kitchen was closing and did we want dessert. His explanation seemed begrudging at best. The coupon mentioned dine in, and take out available, and the coupon was valid for Dinner only, no Lunch. when I got there to pick up my meal, they said the coupon was invalid for take out. the food was ok. The restaurant is located off of busy 4th street and it was bustling during a weekday afternoon. Lunch specials are on the pricier side, but given the quality and the area, it's not a bad option for lunch. Ordered their panang curry with chicken lunch and a Thai iced tea. I upgraded to the sticky rice and the lunch special comes with a salad as well. The panang curry was rich and flavorful with an array of delicious spices. The chicken was really tender and they provided an ample amount of meat. Wasn't too big of a fan of the sticky rice though and probably could have forwent the upgrade. It comes in a cute little basket! At first I thought that they had forgotten the rice, but it was just hiding underneath there. It was decent but nothing special. The salad was average but I enjoyed the dressing. Their Thai iced tea was like diabetes in a glass! BUT... that's the way I LOVE my Thai iced tea. It was perfect. It was pretty busy during lunch but the food came out super fast. Service was adequate but nothing over the top. The staff was very pleasant to interact with though. Walking down forth in the way to the theater thIs place was packed in both sides. Made a mental note. On way out of theater, it was still opened so we have it a whirl. It's easy to say fast attentive service when you are practically the only peeps in place within 39 minutes of closing time. But we got it Conspicuously they never asked what level of spice. And none of the dishes while tasty had any heat Had to get a side of sambal Oelek, or how my kids remembered how to say it, "olick some balls" Frankly the pad Thai was not the best nor worse. The catfish and green beans not cooked in hot spices was also just ok. The best dish was the special shrimp and veggies. This used to be my favorite Thai place by far. The best food with the best flavors. So I was quite surprised to get take out today and have it just be so-so. The portions were smaller than I remembered and smaller than other Thai restaurants in the area. The flavors were subdued. Deep fried tofu added to pad ga pow at the last moment so it had no time to soak up the sauce. The veggies in that dish looked like they had been steamed instead of stir-fried and also had almost no flavor. The sauce was watery. I've had phenomenal pad ga pow here but this was a far cry. Drunken noodles were decent but the chicken in the dish was also bland. The highlight of the order was chicken sate. Well marinated with a great peanut sauce. We also had fried veggie rolls. I was pressed for time and this place was nearby where I had parked my car earlier for a massage, during which power (electricity) went out so restaurant had limited menu. I got the red curry with pork. It was very tasty with tender pieces of lean pork and variety of veggies (eggplant, bamboo, carrots, bell peppers). The curry was perfect for my palate- lots of flavor and not too heavy/oily with just the slightest amount of heat/spiciness. The restaurant was not busy (midweek and power outage) with just a few other patrons so service was prompt and food came out quickly; I was solo dining and was in and out in under 30 minutes which suited my limited time. My dad went and picked it up a little before 20 minutes and the order was already waiting for him. The food was very flavorful! They didn't skimp on protein portions which I especially appreciated. I recently had lunch bought for me from My Thai, barbecue salmon, and it was so delicious! The salmon and veggies were flavorful, and plenty of rice was included. (Too much for me personally though who is cutting down on rice.) My meal came with peanut sauce and sweet & sour sauce on the side. Portion size seemed just right. I would definitely come on my own and order the same dish, though maybe request more veggies and less rice next time.
