I stopped at China Village for a late lunch on a Thursday around 4pm. I was very impressed with the beautiful decor of the lobby and spacious dining room. They also have private dining areas for groups. The waiter let me know lunch service was over, but he would include soup in my meal. I looked over the large menu, and decided to get something simple. I ordered: - Wor Won Ton Soup, Small $13.65 - Potstickers, House Made, (6), $11.95 - Ice water w/ Lemon, free Okay, I thought the Wor Won Ton Soup was a little skimpy for $13.65. It only had 6 dumplings, some chicken, and lots of veggies. It's clearly a dinner soup, but it's not priced that way. The house made potstickers were very good. They were plump and juicy. They were perfect with the soy vinegar sauce provided. Service was very attentive. I was seated near the wait station, and the waiter seemed to be expecting me to ask for something. Maybe because there's no condiments on the table. I did ask for chopsticks. This place does alot of takeout and delivery orders. Overall a good experience. China Village is our go to Chinese food spot in the area. The food is good, but can be inconsistent. You can always tell when a different chef is in the kitchen. The wait staff is very straight forward and to the point. Some may find this rude, while others may find this efficient. They are also very friendly once you go more often and they get to know you. They are quick and food comes out as ready, which I appreciate to get it hot (rather than waiting on everything all at once). Their lunch special is a killer deal. Typically a small appetizer, cup of soup, and choice of entree with fried rice or chow mein for around $10 or so. We typically stick to the pork fried rice, vegetable chow mein, princess chicken or orange chicken, spicy green beans, and spring rolls. My husband loves their sweet and sour soup on the lunch special, I prefer their wonton soup (which they will exchange for you if you just ask). There is plenty of room inside, and the other half of the building can accommodate large parties or private gatherings. read more

They literally harass you if you don't order enough food. A party of six, one person wasn't very hungry and wanted to only order an appetizer. The server got rude, berated him for not ordering a meal, then never came back to our table. Two orders were messed up. We had to ask for missing items. Chow mein and pot stickers were greasy. My sesame chicken had virtually no chicken. It was basically blobs of fried batter. We only go there because our 96 year old father likes it. And speaking of which, we asked to take our leftovers home. They basically throw empty containers at us and expect two elderly people to clear their own plates. We had to ask them to help because the table was too small for us to transfer the food ourselves with just a fork and no table space or elbow room. It would have been more comfortable if they had given us one of the many larger tables in the room that sat empty the whole time we were there. I mostly stuck with the steamed white rice because every time I eat there I end up with an emergency trip to the bathroom. Afraid to eat it, I gave my cup of soup to my daughter, which also caused a ruckus with the wait staff. After this last visit, that was supposed to be a birthday lunch but was ruined by the horrible service, we told our folks we aren't ever coming back. Someone else in the family will have to take them there because we're done paying for horrible food served by rude people. Oh, and then when we got the bill, they had written their own tip in. Written it in on the tip line. Despite being terrible, we would have tipped them more, but they took it upon themselves to decide our tip for us, so that works. read more

This is a very spacious restaurant with a beautiful interior. They also have a large private room that's perfect for hosting parties or events. I first came here for a New Year's party with my work, and everything was great! Now I'm back for a regular dine-in experience and was pleasantly surprised by the prices. The lunch specials are a great deal--they come with the soup of the day, an appetizer, and your choice of fried rice, chow mein, or steamed rice. Today's soup was hot and sour, which was very flavorful, and the appetizer was fried wontons. The soup was delicious, though the wontons were just okay. I do wish they had more drink options. For non-alcoholic drinks, there are only a few juices, sodas, and hot tea. They offer some wine and beer, but not a wide selection. We ordered the Shanghai dumplings to share, and the dipping sauce they came with was excellent. For my entrée, I had the Mongolian lamb with chow mein, and the portion was huge--definitely enough for two meals! Both the lamb and the chow mein were delicious, and honestly, their chow mein might be the best I've had so far. My mom had the lemon chicken with chow mein and felt the chicken was a bit too tough. My dad got the walnut prawns with fried rice. The prawns were good but tasted pretty standard, like you'd find at other Chinese restaurants. As for the fried rice, it was just okay to me, but I'm not a big fan of fried rice in general. The food did take a while to come out, but they were quite busy. It's like she had 10 cups of coffee and wound up really tight. Didn't want to explain the difference between the first dinner menus we were given and then the lunch menus that replaced them. She couldn't get our orders correct, especially since she kept interrupting while we were trying to order. We ended up ordering too much but my friend was covering it and said to let it go. Reading some good reviews and having this restaurant so close to home, I was excited. I have now given this place 3 tries and am sad to say I can only give it 3.5 starts. The interior is expansive, welcoming and nicely decorating. The menu seemed appealing. On this occasion I ordered the potstickers and they were truly the worse I have tasted. They are super thick with dough- like 3 times as normal and the texture was chewy & sticky. The veggie chow fun was quite tasty and I appreciated all the veggies. However it was quite oily. I find the prices a bit high although the portions are decent sized. On my way out I saw one of the cooks who brought my food out, in the parking lot smoking a cigarette. I'm hoping he washes his hands before handling the food. Perhaps there are some special items that are great- the veggie options though are mediocre. read more

Food was good but waitresses add the tip on our receipt way before we got our copy to sign. It was juts 3 of us not a table of 6. They forced the tip without allowing us to decide. They also brought an extra place that we did not order and got mad, she even came to argue with me saying that I'd order that when we changed the dish for a different one. It was raining so she sent me inside to order takeout for us. I ordered her pork chow mein, and asked some questions to figure out what to order for myself. I really wanted to try the house eggplant, but I also needed some protein so I asked if it includes tofu. The guy, an older gentleman, told me it doesn't but he could add it for 2 dollars extra. I said sure, that sounds good. Then I asked if the eggplant comes with rice, and this is where the trouble began. He said no, it does not, it's a la carte. And I said ok, can we add rice to the order, please? At any other place, they would have said sure, it costs 1.50 extra or whatever price they wanted to charge me. But this guy just reiterated that the meal doesn't come with rice as if he was refusing to sell it to me. I told him I'd pay for it, just let me know how much. Again: "house eggplant don't come with rice." Sir... I know that. We've been over that. Sell it to me separately as a side. Just ring me up please, so we can be done. He gave me a total--a ridiculously high total for only two entrees--and I paid him thinking it HAD to cover the rice for 38 dollars. But I had a bad feeling, and had to know."This includes the rice, right?" I asked as an afterthought. "No! This entree, it no come with rice!" Now he was yelling. At me. As if I'd done something wrong by, God forbid, trying to buy rice in a Chinese restaurant. "I *know* it doesn't come with it! Just tell me how much it costs separately, please! Because I'm not leaving without a side of rice." Finally, at long last, he let me pay for it--over 3 dollars--but I got my rice. I'm still not at all sure what the fuss was about. Know what's even worse? Upon glancing at their menu, the house eggplant is not only listed as including rice, it also comes with soup and a side salad, neither of which I received. The eggplant was amazing and the sauce just right. This is one of my favorite dishes, and there aren't many places that still offer it, so I'm really bummed that this guy totally put me off ever going back. The building and landscaping is gorgeous. It's a large place right on the corner. They have a festival for Chinese New Year that is fun. I was greeted upon entering and sat immediately. Even though it was late afternoon/ early evening there were still patrons. I ordered the deluxe vegetables, which comes in a very light garlic sauce and the bbq pork fried rice. Spent the day in Healdsburg and stop by for dinner on our way back home to SJ. Place was recommended by our host at Toumey . For a Sunday place was busy with takeout and dine in. Place is roomy and good to hold party. Down to the food. As usual we always order more than we can eat as we love variety. BF and I got egg rolls which based on servers recommendations. This you can skip. It only comes in vegetarian which only seems to have cabbage in it. For our meal we ordered combo fried rice! It came with lots of protein and shrimp was pretty big. Had great flavor not too salty and rice just right. General Chicken as this is a must for BF. She said it was good and could have had little more heat. It reminds me of orange chicken as it has crunchy batter and moist chicken inside difference is the sauce as this was brown probably soy and not tangy. Then we ordered the Hunan shrimp, great spicy flavor but not overpowering and huge shrimp. Lastly salt and pepper pork chop. The flavor was there nice and moist but it was missing the heat at more crunch factor that I'm used too. Over all it was good and would be back when in the area to try other dishes. We called in an order for pick up on our way home from being out of town. The inside is clean and the staff is always friendly. We always order the salt and pepper pork chops (since they are one of the only places to make them). They were crispy on the outside and moist and juicy on the inside. The onions and jalapeño peppers they were over, were seasoned to perfection. We tried their house chow fun and wor won ton soup for the first time. Both were flavorful and fresh. Was looking for some wonton soup on a rainy day and ran into this location. Service from the time we walked in was super welcoming. Everyone had great energy. Nice open spacious seating. They provide huge servings. We normally finish our meals and we needed take out boxes. Pricing was decent for all the entrees we ordered. For a family dinner of 5 and we ordered about 8 entrees our bill came to about a bit over $130. What a great bargain for so much food. Flavors were average but they have the best service. read more

We went there and were shocked. The food was far "below" mediocre, not what you would expect. But worse than that, the kitchen crew goes with their aprons into the bathrooms, hang up their apron, to do their business, took it back on, and did not wash hands, leaving the restroom again. This is totally illegal. Health guidelines require employees to keep aprons sanitary, and wearing them in the restroom is a clear violation of this rule. I would never go there again, nor recommend anyone to eat there. read more

We went to China Village last night because a family member came to visit from out of town. It was my husband, our 5-year-old, our relative, and myself. From the moment we sat down, we felt rushed. The server (a shorter lady with glasses) came up right away asking if we were ready to order when we had just been seated. We hadn't even looked at the menu yet. We ordered drinks, and while we were still deciding, she stood there and kept suggesting appetizers, even after we politely said no multiple times. I finally had to firmly say, "Ma'am, we're okay for now." A few minutes later, two more servers came by asking if we were ready to order, which added to the pressure. We placed our order quickly, just to avoid feeling rushed. Our appetizer and meals came out at the same time, but our drinks were forgotten -- we had to ask the busboy for them, and he was actually very kind and attentive (he deserves recognition). When we were nearly done, the server came over asking how many boxes we needed -- even though our relative was still eating. She stopped mid-meal and said she'd just take her food to go because of how rushed we felt. The check came to about $115, and we left an $8 tip, which we felt was fair considering the poor service, the forgotten drinks, and the overall pressure we experienced. The shocking part came when the server counted our money right in front of us and said, "You realize this is for your food and this is my tip?" She pointed out the suggested tip amount and asked multiple times if we were sure we didn't want to leave more. I told her yes, that's what we're leaving. She then said she'd "go talk to the cashier." It was incredibly uncomfortable and embarrassing, especially in front of our visiting family member. The food at China Village is amazing -- we've always loved it -- but this experience left us very disappointed. The busboy and other staff were great, but the service from this particular server and the way she handled the tip situation was completely unprofessional. Sadly, we'll probably just do takeout or DoorDash from now on instead of dining in. read more

An XMAS eve to forget! Waited 40 minutes in line for a takeout order placed online three hours earlier. 40 minutes to learn it would take an additional hour for the order to be ready! The restaurant was horribly unprepared. All of the staff looked stressed, overwhelmed, and in various states of panic. I felt so bad for all of them, especially for the one hostess who had to put up with all of the impatient and upset patrons. Pro tip for the management: a little planning goes a long way! We've been driving by this restaurant for years but lately have noticed lots of cars in the parking lot so we decided to give it a try for lunch. We were greeted immediately and taken into the dining area which was light and bright. We noticed that they had a special small plates menu on the table with a few dim sum dishes like shiu mai, Shanghai dumplings, steamed BBQ pork buns, shrimp dumplings and pot stickers (only 5 items). We will try them in a future visit. We ordered lunch plates today which came with fried won tons, hot and sour soup, and our entrée with either fried rice or chow mein. We asked if we could do half and half which they said was no problem ($3 extra per plate). We ordered hot and spicy eggplant as well as beef with mushrooms. Our fried won tons and soup came to our table quickly after we ordered. Our server looked like he had to walk a distance to the kitchen so he was almost running. Our food was tasty. The eggplant had some nice tanginess and my beef with mushrooms had a good selection of veggies stir fried with the beef but was lacking mushrooms. There was only one mushroom cut in half. Regardless, it was a dish that I enjoyed as I love veggies. Their chow mein and fried rice are both good. Their food was not greasy which I appreciated and everything came out nice and hot. Their servings are generous and their servers are attentive. Their lunch menu is extensive. We are looking forward to our next visit. Conveniently located right off 101. All the dishes were decent size portions. We ordered Mongolian lamb, salt and pepper pork chops, and house crispy noodles! Mongolian lamb was well flavored with a nice kick. Lamb was well cooked and tender. Salt and pepper pork chops were also tender but I felt like a little under seasoned. The onions that came with the dish were more flavorful. Crispy noodles were also good. They put the sauce on the bottom of the dish to prevent the noodles from getting too soggy. While I appreciate that because the worst thing is soggy noodles on a crispy noodle dish, I felt like the dish would have tasted better if the meats and veggies were sautéed with the sauce more. They have a lot of servers and they were all attentive. I would come back here to try other dishes. Over all 4 stars! read more
