Needed another quick and easy lunch, Hunan Kitchen always delivers. As I was ordering the woman behind the counter was so nice, allowing me to split steamed rice and chow mein for a Box B meal. The mushroom chicken was hot and fresh, with juicy meat and the mushrooms were tender. The sweet and sour pork was a little dry, but the sauce gave it some life. I've been a customer here for a long time and there have been a couple of glitches here and there but all the restaurants have them this time it went over the top. I ordered chow mein and I had on the side, black pepper, chicken, and orange chicken pate took my order went home to eat and to my surprise the black pepper chicken there was a fly in the mail. I let it go two minutes later I found another fly swimming in the sauce that did it for me very very upset. I will go back to let them know that I was not happy at all. read more

Food was not bad, I felt the broccoli beef was a bit bland, and the Orange Chicken wasn't too sweet or garlic tasting. Chow Main and Fried rice were pretty good as well. Service was great, I was helped in a friendly and quick manner. Just be careful when paying the guy over charge me. I got the box A it was 14 something with a can soda. It should have been around 17 to 18 dollars for the food but he charged me 22. I asked him 22? Found this place because it was nearby my pharmacy, and decided to try it. I ordered beef with broccoli, chicken fried rice and chow mein. It was good, but no better than some similar chain restaurants (that shall remain nameless). I have very high standards though, but even my kids were not impressed. The rice comes in either chicken or veggie (I think you can order pork to be made fresh), you cannot combine. I was torn, but got the chicken. It did not have much chicken in it, so I'd choose veggie if I had a do-over. The man behind the counter was nice and friendly and service and payment took no time at all. LOCATION: In a strip mall with plenty of parking, easy access from many apartment complexes in Rohnert Park. PRICES: Shockingly low! I haven't seen prices this good even back in MN, let alone CA. Under $9 for a very filling dinner? $40 for a huge family meal? Incredible! MENU: I love their simple menu: it makes it easier to choose. Box A (larger, two entrees) or Box B (one entree, still veeeery filling) with a choice of rice or chow mein as a side and several entrees to pick from. Or order one of the two family meal options, which could easily feed a family of 5+. SETUP: This is a very well-oiled machine for takeout. They do have some seating inside, but during dinner you'll surely find a line. Don't worry, it goes very fast thanks to their buffet-style setup and streamlined menu options. When things run out fast (like the orange chicken and chow mein) they're refilled at lightning speed. SERVICE: Service was quick and skilled, and the man at the register was so kind and welcoming! My recollection of this place was about even with a Panda Express, but owned and operated by a local family. Hubby and I decided to stop in and see how it was compared to what I remembered in the past, and nothing much has changed. Inside they have a huge dining room but they are only doing to go orders. The hot trays were full when we got there, and despite the long line, it went by super-fast. The folks behind the counter were efficient and friendly, and I really liked seeing them remember folks that were repeat customers and greet them by name. If you have a specific dining request that isn't in the steam trays, you can call ahead and get that added to your order before you get there. We ordered the combo plates, and my (limited) vegetarian option meal was greasy and bland but huge in quantity, and hubby's meat-centric meal was much better, and he thought it was overall not bad. The prices are super good, and the serving sizes are huge. I do think the people who dine here know what they're getting in terms of quality, so nobody is surprised there. This is by no means a gourmet or really authentic place, but it's inexpensive and you can feed a lot of folks for not much $ which is appealing to many. Overall, although this is not the food for me, but I also know that they have a loyal following and they will likely continue to stay in business for a long time. I went to this place because of the good ratings that I saw on the Internet. We ordered three separate meals and got most of their dishes that were sitting ready to be served. Everything was overcooked. The orange chicken was not very good, even crunchy. The other dishes with chicken in them did not taste good. I was very letdown with how the food was cooked and barely was able to eat even a small plate of food. Update: They are amazing. Open during these crazy times and friendly. The younger woman was happy to see me almost as happy as I was that they were open. She packs the to go containers and have always been on point with flavor. I have fallen for the hole in the wall tucked back in a corner spot in a small little strip mall near the expressway. The staff in front is always welcoming and they are quick to replenish food that is getting low. Their broccoli beef has been my favorite. Most places over steam their broccoli or make the sauce too salty. I love that it's not just soggy salted crowns but has some stems and still has some crunch. The flavor is mild and they do not over sauce. The crab and cheese Rangoon's were good with sweet n sour sauce. The teriyaki chicken is good too. The line moves quickly as they do not have 50 items to choose from. And once you've been there a time or two you'll know what you want fairly quickly. During the summer time it looks that they have the option for outdoor seating in the little breezy way between the two buildings. I was so impressed by my lunch special I drove back up to Petaluma the next day to pick up dinner. Everything was hot, flavorful and far from bland! I highly recommend the combination fried rice and any chow meins!! The service is fantastic too! From what I gathered if your order is over $45 before taxes you get a choice of one free appetizer.
