I had heard good things about this place, and after 5 years of living in town, I've finally tried it. My one and only question after dining here is: Why? Why was I the only customer here? I arrived at 8pm on a Monday and it was completely empty. I almost didnt go in, but I was 1) too lazy to cook at home and 2) cutting it too close to drive anywhere else since everything closes so early here. After reading some other reviews, it seems they were only doing take out until recently. I'm not trying to have this place shut down on me for lack of customers when I've only just discovered it, so here's the unofficial announcement: NOW OPEN FOR DINE-IN!! The food was delicious. It was super fresh and the flavors were solid. Here are my ratings for what I got: Swirl shrimp appetizer: 9.5/10. I assumed it was gonna be a shrimp patty but it was not. It was 2 pieces of actual shrimp battered and fried on each skewer. Batter was light and super crunchy, shrimp were soft and plump. This appetizer hit the bullseye for my textural craving. I was not a fan of the sauce, but I don't really do sweet sauce in general. It was a pretty standard egg roll type sweet sauce. I just used the chili oil, but I would probably ask for spicy mustard next time I order this. Garlic pork ribs in clay pot: 10/10. Man this dish was so awesome. It smelled amazing, the pork was falling off the bone, the sauce blended so well with the meat. Visually I thought the sauce was going to be too oily but it was super light and I had to stop myself from eating the whole thing so I can try the other dishes. Salted fish fried rice: 7.5/10. To be fair, it's not on the menu, but they were accommodating enough to make this for me. It was a bit too salty and the rice was a bit too dry. But with that said, I would probably try and order it again if they let me before I made a final decision on the dish. It was definitely close to closing time so maybe I'll try going at an earlier hour to see if it makes a difference. Mapo tofu: 9/10. Very flavorful and spicy! I had 2 bites and my entire body started to sweat immediately. Definitely ask for mild spice if you can't handle heat. I hope this review brings in some customers because what a waste for people not to experience this amazing Cantonese style chinese food! Second time doing take out here, it's been years since I have been here and thought of them today. They are authentic and the only restaurant in Sonoma County that does the Hong Kong style BBQ (meats you would find in SF Chinatown, Clement St, Ocean Ave, etc). Given that, prices are expensive $16.99 for a plate but it is a lot of meat & veggies, think of it has 3 entrees with rice. On their menu, check out their all day special rice plates. If you want their HK Style BBQ (it's no 7-13) but was told you can't mix Duck with Chicken. I ordered the Princess Chicken and Roast pork. Very good flavors and the ginger scallion oil dip was perfect for the princess chicken! This place also have Hot Pot to go which I haven't tried yet but also another first for Sonoma Country! I went here with several friends and we ordered many dishes, all of which were good. I have to say, as someone who claims that they don't like pork, that I thought the salt and pepper pork was delicious. I thought the service was fine and prompt for a busy weekend lunch hour. I want to come back and try their hot pot, and also come back during weekday lunch to see how fast or slow the service is. The only thing I would suggest to the owners is to set up regular website going instead of Facebook to post their current menu. read more

We found Fantasy Restaurant at the beginning of this year, when our 11 year old wanted to try Hot Pot. We have gone back many times since then, and every time is as good as the last. The staff are all very friendly and don't make you wait. The food is fresh and delicious. We always get the Hot Pot, but have also tried the Pot Stickers, which are very good. I always want to try something different when we go, but can't say no to the hot pot. My son has now asked if he can do his birthday party there, so all his friends can get in on the hot pot action. read more

This used to be one of my favorites places to go as their food was good and menu was plentiful. I wanted to go for my birthday this year and looked up their menu to see if there were any changes. Boy are there! My old trifold menu is obsolete as they've eliminated most dishes and have insanely raised the prices on other dishes. Just over a year ago, their Honey BQQ pork was $10.99, which was already an increase from previously being $8.99. Now it's $18.99?! I can understand if a business isn't doing well which is why I'm not giving one star. If the business sold and this was what they chose to do, shame on the new owners. A place that still has cooked ducks and pork parts hanging in the window. Haven't seen that since China town in SF. They offer many different dishes including clay pots which I've never tried before. Probably the most authentic Chinese food in the North Bay! The first time I tried Fantasy, I came for hot pot. Although it was a lot of fun, my meal ended up being a bit pricey. The lunch special is more my jam. For $8 (!!!), you get a heaping plateful of food. I love that you can pick a variety of options. I opted for tofu with pork and beef and chow mein. My dining companion chose the pork and veggies, which looked delicious as well. It's a great value and a very filling lunch. Also, the roasted pork here is top notch! Tip: it's cheaper if you buy it and take it to go. While the ambiance and service are pretty good, the main attraction here is flavorful Chinese food. read more

Surprised that this type of Chinese restaurant is located in Petaluma, but I'm happy it is. I had to stop by and try some classic dishes. I got a whole duck, roast pork, and char siu to go. Everything was delicious. Duck was very moist, where places in SF can make dry. The roast pork had great flavor with excellent crispy skin. And the char siu had great flavor. I love, love, love, Chinese food. I basically grew up on it, as we had it almost every Friday night. When our neighbor recommended Fantasy, we couldn't wait to get over and try it. Perhaps we ordered poorly or maybe it was an off day but we were underwhelmed. The honey tofu was crispy, sweet and right out of the wok hot it it could have used more than a few decorative sprigs of broccoli. The orange chicken and rice place was a disappointment with mushy sicken and no veggies. Service was friendly and fast. Maybe we'll rethink our choices and try again but probably not soon. read more

There was a roadside billboard but there wasn't one for the restaurant. Being first time customers we had to look look around for the place. Pleasantly surprised on entry as it was very clean, white table cloths, efficient service. Food was delicious, prices were unexpected for Braised Whole cod. $75 for one fish, it was crisp and and delicious. Just did not expect it to be that much. Excellent Hot Pot Broth is deeply flavored and so delicious. Spicy is my favorite, but be careful as it's no joke. I love spicy food and even medium spice pushes me to my limit. There are numerous choices to pair with the broth - mushrooms are a must-have - that are all very fresh. Seriously, the food is so fresh and delicious. The portions are generous as well, so don't order too much like I tend to do. You can always order a little more. Also, the roast duck is intensely decadent and completely worth the price. Half of a duck is good for 3 or even 4 people. Our bill recently for 3 people with drinks was $110 and we were overstuffed and completely satisfied. We got half of a duck, 3 pots of broth, and 1 order each of: beef, pork belly, shiitake, seafood mushroom, daikon, broccoli, and rice noodles. Well worth the price for delicious food. This restaurant is tucked away by a Petaluma convenience store. The atmosphere and decor fits this smaller restaurant nicely done with a busy take out business counter. We originally went for a simmering pot meal. It is only offered as dinner. So we ordered individual dishes. Presentation and freshness of ingredients are great though prices are on the higher side. People on Facebook group Sonoma County Foodies have been highly recommending this place and they were right! The pork belly entree had two long strips of sliced meat with a perfectly crispy fat strip that my English mother called 'crackling', which is so hard to find in America. I was over the moon to find it. The meat was tasty too. Prawns with veg was mild as is standard since it wasn't a black bean sauce and had a good amount of fat shrimps. It paired well with the pork as that dish had no veg with it. Why ruin a good thing? Lol. The shiitake and veg was a standout, too. Big, fat, tender, fresh shiitake were amazing in a nice sauce. Even the egg rolls were notable. When was the last time you thought that about generic restaurant egg rolls?! The hot and sour soup was traditional and yummy. I went to Fantasy with a large group of friends. Two of my friends are chefs and they can't get enough of this place. When we walked in they saw two of their other friends who are also chefs which was definitely a good sign. We let the owner pick out our whole meal and it everything was delicious. It was more of a traditional Chinese style meal, nothing I have ever had. I think we had 11 dishes all of which were devoured. Best Cantonese restaurant north of Golden Gate. While there are lots of American Chinese restaurants that would sells Kung Pao chicken or walnut shrimps, Fantasy does their own roasted duck, crispy pork belly, or live lobster dish. I live up north of Santa Rosa so it's really helpful to have this authentic flavored 20 mins away, especially when I dont feel like driving down to SF. Born and grew up in Asia, I'd say the seasoning is on point. Some of these reviews think that fried rice or stir fried veggies supposed to be heavily seasoned, then they might want to try their usual American chinese spots. I go here every months and finally decide to write something cause this place deserves more traffic. It is runs by 3 people, the chef, the wife who works cashier and serves, and the grandmother prepping in the back. One thing I tried and didn't like was Siu Mai. Other than that, it has been amazing. Just see all these photos for yourself, my review is not based on average flavors in this area but what I ate and experienced everywhere. Don't let the odd location fool you! This place is fantastic! When I first walked in I noticed the Peking Duck hanging. There is a side area where you can pick up food togo. I can for the hotpot! I chose half chicken broth & half mild spiced broth. Mild was perfect because as it simmers and reduces a bit, the spice intensifies. You can choose the items you'd like in your pot. I highly recommend the beef, shrimp, potato, spinach, bokchoy, noodles, and items to make your sauce with: sesame oil, scallions, cilantro, hoisin, sambal chili sauce. You may be tempted to order a lot all at once. Remember you cAn always add/order more as you go. When adding to the pot - you add veg first, then meat, next seafood and last are the noodles. I feel a Chinese restaurant should be critiqued on their staples which are pot stickers, chow mien and fried rice all which were awful. All needed soy sauce and salt! Stopped in the other night because I was hungry for dim sum. I ordered pork buns, har gow, siu mai, pork ribs in clay pot, house chow mein and bbq pork to go. 2 out 5 The dim sum was not worth the money and I think was actually store bought, it reminded me of the dim sum that I once bought frozen at a Chinese market. The pork buns had a decent flavor. Overall, don't bother 4 out of 5 The pork in clay pot was very good. 4 out of 5 The house chow mein was very flavorful. 3.5 out of 5. The bbq pork was a little dry but not bad. 3 out of 5 Service was not very friendly nor attentive. Next time I will get the food to go. Myself and six others went out for a hot pot fantasy restaurant in Petaluma. The staff is friendly and helpful and brought glasses of water while we waited for our waitress. And it looks very nice inside small and I think they have an upstairs but I didn't go up there but I understand that they do have extra tables upstairs if they get too busy. we were given the hot pot menu and I wrote down what we wanted to eat. It doesn't seem like they have much business for hot pot up here in the north bay, so I do understand the way that it was presented to us to where that some of the more easier foods were brought out faster than the sliced meat. The problem that I see is that the sliced meat was sliced so very thin that once it was put into the broth, you actually almost didn't realize that it was there have eaten a lot of hot pot, and I've never had meat that almost disintegrated in the broth. Luckily, I had ordered tiger prawns and scallops that actually I thought gave me the protein I wanted. We were kind of put off when we asked for chili sauce and they wanted to charge us extra for chili sauce, as I have never been charged two dollars if I wanted to add flavor to my food. For the price that we paid I shouldn't think that would be a problem being that seven of us cost with tip $420. And that was with an 18% tip. And overall if I was to go there again, I would not order any of the red means because it's a waste of money and I would not order the scallops not because they tasted bad, but you only got five pieces and I understand scallops are more expensive so in the broth they really didn't have any flavor. I wouldn't mind going there again but knowing what to order is a big plus as it would keep the cost down. If I didn't order any other red meat, which I wouldn't do again or the scallops, I could have along with a few other items cut the cost by 25% which still the bill would come out about $300 which would still be a little more expensive than the hot pot that you receive in the bay area. Means that it's only hot pot in the north bay, I would think they would be a little more busy but I guess we just don't have that type of clientele in the Sonoma county area. Which is too bad because it's a great way to go out with friends and have a good time relax and socialize. I they only have hot pot at night. They don't have it for lunch, which is a shame that you have roast duck that they prepare there and it looks great walking in and seeing Russ Dunkin pieces of pork hanging from hooks as you walk in. The roaster cost about $35. I didn't try it but I will eventually most of the group was put off by the little extras that they charge you for which I think does that more harm than good. I know they are closed on Monday and Tuesday. I think they open at about 1130 and then they start the dinner at 5 o'clock to wear that you can get the hot pot if you so desire. With a hot pot it's more about the service and it is the food because 90% of the food is vegetables or noodles and as far as I'm concerned, they did a good job with their service but I was very disappointed in the beef that is so thin that I cannot order it in the future, and as far as for a rating, I would give it about three out of five stars for the hot pot but I'm sure the rest of their food is delicious because as I watch the other plates, come out it look very appetizing. Our group was the only group that was having hot pot and there's probably a reason for that I think it would be, good for them to reevaluate their views on the red meats when they slice them. If you want something different in the North Bay, the fantasy restaurant would be a good place to go but if you are hot pot, just be aware of what you are ordering to keep the price down. Went for an early dinner on a Saturday evening. We were the only souls there until the time we left around 6:00pm. There were two take out orders during that time. Potstickers - Pictured and described as pan fried. Arrived deep fried. They weren't awful but not as expected. Dipping sauce was good. Hot and Sour Soup - Off taste, almost burnt flavor. Meh. Lemon Chicken - The most disappointing dish of all. Two of us ate it and couldn't find a single piece of chicken until I picked through in search of it. Mostly a pile of fried batter in lemon sauce. The few pieces of meat were tough and dry. Another Yelper describes a similar experience with General Tso. Hmmm . Mongolian Beef - Very good. Nice balance of meat to vegetables and just the right amount of spicy. Chicken Chow Mein - Probably the best dish overall. Good meat to noodle to vegetable ratio, slight smoky flavor. A winner. Steamed Pork Buns - I didn't eat them, but my dining mates said they were good. Service - Our waitress was friendly and attentive. That may be due to the lack of business, but very good nevertheless. We have been wanting to try Fantasy for some time now, don't wait like us! Get over there and get some authentic Chinese food. Both our experiences were takeout but we look forward to trying their hot pot ASAP. Interior is really nice, don't let the exterior fool you. Staff is friendly and super attentive. I am not giving 5 stars yet due to the fact that our first time in we didn't choose quite right, their menu is huge and unique. I had the chicken udon, flavor was good and not overly salty which is hard to find when eating Chinese food. I would order again but request less oil, a bit too much for my taste. My son got the sweet and sour chicken, more authentic than he was used to so probably won't get again, not a lot of flavor. Husband got the Mongolian beef, he loved how spicy it was but also a bit too greasy, again, next time he will request less oil. Potstickers were ok, Vietnamese rolls were not our thing but they were good. Second take-out was a whole cut up duck. They sell a ton of them. What a delicious and easy dinner with enough for leftovers next day and duck fried rice. GET THE DUCK!! I served it in lettuce cups with the sauce it comes with, my god it was delicious. Had I know my son wasn't going to be home to enjoy it I would have only bought 1/2, it's a ton of food for two people!! Fantastic deal for an easy dinner. Saw this Fantasy Restaurant on Yelp decided to try it. I miss Cantonese food and it's hard find true Chinese restaurants since living N of SR. When I went in there was only 1 group (1table) eating 12:45 pm. Lunch time. I order the combo: duck, crispy pork with steam rice. The duck was not bad. The flavor was off. The taste was not the same. The crispy pork was hard to bite and chew. Guest not to many orders for crispy pork. I'm just use to going to S.F. to getting my fix on Chinese food.
