This is a lovely family run restaurant worth supporting, and I highly recommend eating here! We wanted to try something new and decided on Pho Sonoma. It was a mellow Tuesday night and when we walked in the restaurant was mostly empty, which was a little unnerving, but we were greeted promptly and warmly. We ordered an appetizer and 4 entrees between 2 adults and 2 toddlers, and nearly licked the plates clean. The banh mi sandwich, garlic noodles, and BBQ pork are to die for! But, what made the visit truly special was meeting Jenny, the owner and chef, and her husband. They came out personally to check on our table, introduced themselves, and made my husband, our two young kids, and me feel completely at home. Their warmth and genuine hospitality are rare, and it showed in every interaction. This is the kind of family-run gem you hope to stumble upon -- where the people behind the food are just as wonderful as the food itself. We'll absolutely be back! Amazing place! Definitely a hidden gem that's close to downtown Petaluma.Prices are far better than other places for the amount of food you get. Quality of food is also beyond my expectations. Waitress recommended the clay pot so I gave that a try and don't regret it one bit. It's everything I love. Lots of tofu, veggies (that weren't over cooked) and rice. I have a big appetite and the amount of food was just the right amount. I did not leave hungry at all. while I waited for my food, they brought my appetizer. It was delicious. The shrimp spring rolls were fresh, and peanut sauce that came with it was loaded with little peanut pieces (I love a crunchier sauce over a smooth sauce). I also enjoyed a Thai iced tea. I'm not a fan of almond milk, but whichever brand they use, was better than any other I've had at other places. I want to go back and try the bahn mi sandwich. Service was really good and restaurant offered booth seating and open table seating. Can't wait to go back! read more

When you see Asian people in an Asian restaurant in Petaluma, go there! This restaurant is in Theater Square and I finally had a chance to go. I loved their fresh crisp veggies in my vermicelli and grilled pork salad on an unusually hot early spring evening. while I was expecting a flattened grilled pork chop cut into slices I actually got what I learned was homemade Vietnamese pork sausage, which resembled a sweeter kielbasa. This is different than how I would interpret "grilled pork" - so maybe a photo or an extra noun ("sausage") would help there. Nevertheless, it was a pleasant experience to try it, and it was the friendly owner who explained it to me. I also appreciated that they had a multitude of chili paste available, including my favorite, the chili crisp, which is not something I typically see in a Vietnamese restaurant. (FYI, add a dollop of the chili crisp in the vermicelli salad for a little kick if you can handle it!) I will be back and will try more dishes, including the pho and the Boba. (I was surprised that there weren't more people there, but maybe not everybody knows that Vietnamese food is more than just pho and that there are tasty options with protein that are authentic for warm days). I'm not sure how authentic Boba is for a Vietnamese restaurant but hey, if it allows for people to drop in quickly and get exposure to the business, I'm all for it! read more

After the movies stopped for a bowl of Pho. It was yummy the broth was clean not oily. I would have liked more meatballs and tendon but it did have plenty of steak flank and tripe. Place is quiet when it's this early in the day nice spot opposite corner of theater. Service was great and friendly. One thing I didn't notice until I was done devouring the soup was I didn't ask for lime, basil, and beansprouts oh well next time. I also like the Banh Mi from here and it's a treat whenever I leave the theater convenient location. read more

It was a super cold evening & plenty of activity going on downtown Petaluma & this was a perfect place & night to stop by for some beef pho. The broth was really delicious, and it came to the table really fast. It's a good portion but they can work on the presentation. It looks like it was a serving from their home kitchen. When I go out I like things to look & taste better than what I can create. At the entrance, no one greets you and there is no signage to seat yourself, but that's what I did. Then someone came to the table & dropped off a menu and place setting. I proceeded to order and within minutes the soup arrived. As longtime fans of Saigon Village in San Rafael and La Maison de la Rienne in Novato, we are always on the lookout for good Vietnamese food. We found this lovely little place while visiting a relative here in P-town, and now I'm annoyed it's so far from our Marin home (not really, just a 15 minute drive). The spring rolls were great to start, and my wife and I both had pho, mine with wontons and noodles and hers with seafood and we were both very very happy with our orders! I'll come back in a heartbeat, or at least next time we're in Petaluma. Highly recommended. Lovely people, service was fabulous too. read more

Me and my husband went there this evening, sounded good since it was crisp evening. The service was wonderful, everyone was friendly and helpful, the food was delicious. Everything tasted fresh. The restaurant was spotless . We sat in the booth no stickiness on the seat just clean Everything smelled and tasted amazing. 99 percent of the time it is this way but I do appreciate them not paying any mind to Service dog when we came in and sat down. . Which I really appreciate so he can do his job and I can enjoy my meal. Traveling again! This place was on my walking path as I explored Petaluma, CA on a business trip. And I am glad it was. Atmosphere was cool. Great art on the walls, simple decor beyond that. Service was prompt and awesome! Very nice people and very attentive without being intrusive. The food - delicious. I had the tofu and veggie plate. The veggies were hot and crisp, cooked perfectly really. The fried tofu was fried to perfection. And the sauce of the stir fry was on point. The only reason I can think of this restaurant not having a perfect 5 star rating is from competitors trying to sway business away. The food was top notch, with this broth being literally the best I've ever had. I had the chicken which they slow cook for 5-6 hours each day and my girlfriend had the beef which takes upwards of 10 hours (slow cooked over night). Not only was the food amazing but the service leveled up their game just that much more. Waiters came up to us asking if we needed anything multiple times during the meal. I was even allowed to get a half order of the wings since I just wanted to try them (excellent by the way). Finally the ambiance and atmosphere, it feels so welcoming. During our time here for December they had Christmas decor which was a nice touch. However, what impressed me the most was how clean and open the design of the place was. Furthermore, the music they had playing was relaxing and not overbearingly loud. Overall if you love pho, soup in general, or are looking to try a new place. I will 10/10 recommend. read more

We were walking around downtown and felt like Vietnamese. Being on foot, our normal spot across town wasn't very accessible so we opted to try Pho Sonoma again. I will say, the location is super convenient to downtown. Located in the Theater District with plenty of street parking and a large parking garage, it's very accessible. We had the shrimp spring rolls and the seafood combo pho, both of which we shared. The spring rolls were fresh and tasty but I wasn't a huge fan of the peanut sauce, which had an aftertaste like artificial sweetener. Sriracha is available, but you have to spoon it on using a tiny spoon instead of squeezing it from a bottle, which is infinitely more convenient IMO. The seafood combo pho comes with fish balls, shrimp, squid, and artificial crab in their chicken broth. The broth was good, but lacked complexity (spices were a bit lacking) and a bit of sweetness. All of the seafood was decent, though pretty sparse (8 fish ball halves, 2 shrimp, 3-4 small squid pieces, and 4 pieces of artificial crab), with the exception of the artificial crab, which just had an off flavor and a texture that wasn't very appealing. We'd probably not order this again and stick to the beef pho options. The service was really good - friendly and attentive - though we weren't brought out the plate of sprouts, jalapenos, and limo, that typically come with pho. Overall, it was fine but when we have our car, we'd definitely prefer driving across town. read more

The service truly went above and beyond -- warm, attentive, and thoughtful. I ordered the seafood pho, and it honestly felt like it was made just for me. The broth was rich yet light, and the owner shared that it's simmered for over five hours -- you can absolutely taste the care and time that goes into it. I can't recommend this spot enough if you're looking for something fresh, flavorful, and nourishing. It would be a great place for a family meal, a cozy date night, or even a relaxed daytime date. This review is more about the phone service than anything else, with a small note about the sides/fixings for the pho. We've been going to Pho Sonoma for many years and have always loved their food and the owners. After COVID and having kids, we stopped dining in, but we've remained loyal customers by ordering takeout and using DoorDash regularly. Since ordering through DoorDash, special requests aren't allowed. I dislike onions and cilantro in my pho and like to add spicy chili oil, so after placing my order I always call the restaurant to ask that the onions and cilantro be removed and that chili oil be included. This is the third time I've called and spoken to the same employee, Nancy. Each time, I explain that I just placed a DoorDash order under the name Eric, and she responds with, "What about it?" That response feels very dismissive and unprofessional. Additionally, when ordering pho, you typically receive a bag of fixings (jalapeños, Thai basil, bean sprouts) with each bowl. Lately, that hasn't been the case. I can order three pho and receive only one small bag of fixings. This was never an issue before, especially considering the price of the food. This is really disappointing because we genuinely love the food and have supported this restaurant for years. Unfortunately, these experiences are making us consider finding a new Vietnamese restaurant. read more

Growing up in the area my whole life, there aren't many Vietnamese restaurants that remind me of the food I grew up eating, but this one takes the crown! For starters, the service is top notch and the owners are extremely friendly and hospitable, making us feel at home. The food is some of the most authentic Vietnamese food in Sonoma County, hands down. The grilled meats are seasoned just right and cooked nicely, the portions are generous and you get real Viet flavors across the board. My favorites include the "Banh Xeo" Crispy Viet omelette , the Combination rice platter and the Obama Special! Must try spot for some comforting, authentic and real Vietnamese food! read more

I ordered delivery. I haven't eaten in two days due to a violent flue. All I wanted was some light, vibrant flavor and veggies. I settled on some veggie tofu noodles and the salt and pepper chicken wings. The noodles were mostly that. Noodles. In a clump. A few veggies, more like a garnish. No flavor. So, so bland. The Salt and Pepper chicken wings, all flats, not much meat, were flabby and also flavorless. Where's the S&P? They were served with chunks of raw onions and a few chunks of bell pepper. The only flavor was in the meal was from the onions, that I couldn't eat and the peppers which were few. With DoorDash delivery, it was about $50. As a retired chef, I know what food costs are. The bulk of the food was the ill prepared noodle clump that maybe cost 25 cents. No love in that food at all. Where is the flavor? Where are the cooking techniques? I had my husband taste everything just incase it was my flu dulling my taste senses, but no. This food was devoid of any Vietnamese flavors or just flavor that I was in search of. Seems to be cooked by someone who just doesn't care. So disappointed. read more

Pho Sonoma was the first place I had dinner when I was in Petaluma. I was jet lagged and just wanted cozy food. They did not disappoint! The vibe of the place was inviting, service was so friendly and welcoming. I got noodles with tofu and a honey dew boba tea. It was perfection. I'm a huge honeydew boba tea enthusiast and I can definitely say they get 5/5. The noodles were delicious, veggies were nice and fresh, and tofu was crispy. I honestly am craving this right now.
