Pho. . The name of the game . Late night out , I wake up. . Usually from a fun time at the local buffalo billiards , or a late night out at gales . All downtown Petaluma . Pho is the remedy.. Next thing I need - the seafood pho from Simmers. Or any pho at this point . Seafood is my go to . Squeeze a bit of lime, and drop in the bean sprouts and jalapeños. I'm craving their delicious rice noodles and broth all morning in their pho .. classic remedy for a late night out . Salt , fat, and electrolytes- best remedy. They got a lot of "pho to cure the soul" (if that's not trademarked, I quoted it ). . Amazing service . Super friendly . Clean and professional . The staff is on point. My family and I stopped by Simmer Vietnamese Kitchen for lunch on a Tuesday afternoon and the place was relatively busy. The staff who greeted at the door was friendly and promptly directed our party to a booth to be seated. I tried out the spring rolls with shrimp (+$1.00 option) and opted for some extra peanut sauce as well (also +$1.00 option) For my main, I got the pork chop rice plate. The spring rolls are pretty standard here: the shrimp is cooked well and roll is wrapped neatly and tightly. However, the peanut sauce was a pretty big miss for me. The sauce tasted too watered down and could have had a thicker consistency. Additionally, I should not have ordered extra peanut sauce as the included one was plenty. For the rice plate, the pork chop was a very thin and very lean cut; you get two pieces of meat. I thought the meat had good flavor to it, but it was a bit overcooked and dry for me. The included fish-sauce based dipping sauce felt necessary for the pork chop. I had an opportunity to try out the pho here as well since somebody in my party ordered a bowl, and I thought the broth didn't have that much depth to it. If you're craving Vietnamese food, Simmer seems to be the only option in Petaluma. Unfortunately, there's much better options if you're willing to drive a bit further to either Santa Rosa, or even Richmond or Oakland. read more

It's a bigger than normal pho size when one orders their pho. They are charging $18 for pho so I guess the size justifies the price. Lemongrass chicken bowl was something different and good, but not enough flavor. Iced Vietnamese coffee is small for a standard beverage. Service and decor is nice. We brought our baby here a couple of times and he made a big mess the first time around so they banned babies from sitting on the side. I'm guessing it's due to mess precaution & safety reasons. Whoops. We opted for a booth and a booster seat instead of a high chair. If one is craving pho in those vicinity, this place is place to go. There's not much competition. read more

I ordered takeout from Simmer and it was EXCELLENT! I got the house special, which includes a little of everything (I couldn't decide), and all the proteins were cooked just right, not overdone like so many dry chicken experiences. Everything was juicy and delicious! I even liked their salad! I needed to finish it for lunch the next day, so portions were good for me! Even on reheating, none of the meats were dry! Not just one of the best Vietnamese restaurants in the North Bay, but one of the best I've had period. Ordered the meatball pho and it was really good. Normally I save pho for a rainy, cold, or sick day. Well rains had stopped so it was now just cold. Big plus for free refills and having Starry. The food here is excellent. I didn't realize how much I enjoyed Vietnamese cuisine until trying this place. The menu could use some improvement in clarity so guests can better understand the options, but that's a relatively minor issue. What was far more disappointing was their handling of gratuity. For a monthly event I attend nearby, this restaurant is one of the few options that fits our lunch schedule. On this visit, they automatically added an 18% gratuity to every bill simply because attendees of the same event happened to be dining there at the same time. This practice is unfair and inappropriate. Just because guests recognize others across the restaurant does not make it a single large party. Naturally, when a nearby event lets out, many people will end up in the same restaurant, but each table should be treated independently. When I raised this concern, the manager -- who was also our server -- said she would waive the gratuity "this time only," since 18% is the "expected amount" anyway. This response was unsatisfactory on two counts: first, because gratuities are meant to reflect quality of service (which in this case was lacking), and second, because it dismissed the actual issue with their policy. During our meal, the manager/server did not check on our table once and left our drinks empty for half the visit, which hardly merits an automatic tip. More troubling than the poor service was the lack of appropriate problem resolution. Rather than acknowledging the mistake, the manager doubled down by telling me I was wrong to object. That is never an acceptable approach from management, and it left a very negative impression. read more

The amount of steak was very filling, I am sure that is why the line goes out the door on this place. The broth was good, tasted very leafy though with a bit of blindsided kick. I used to live in San Jose and thought I can't find better pho anywhere else. I'm so glad I was wrong! I've found the best pho right here. Not only the broth is tasty and didn't leave my mouth dry that need water all day, all the meats are cooked perfectly. The even better part is they are not stingy on meats! I was feeling bummed today, and wanted to give myself some self care with a solo lunch date. What a better way to soothe one's heart and soul than with some brothy pho! This was my first time here so I didn't know what to expect. Since I was having a self care moment, I wanted the ambiance to be somewhat nice... I really wasn't in the mood for anything too dive-y. The pics on Yelp looked nice and clean, so I thought I'd give it a try. (Which totally matched my experience -- it was totally a nice restaurant for a pho place!) I came in at around 2 PM on a Wednesday, which is pretty late, so I was surprised to see that almost half the restaurant was full, which I thought was a good sign. I was greeted by a bubbly caucasian waitress who took my order, which was a pho combo without the flank (steak, tendon, tripe, meatball) and a thai iced tea. I wasn't sure about the thai iced tea at first, because it was 6 bucks which seemed expensive.... but then I took a sip and was not disappointed... it was one of the best thai iced teas I've had in a while. It was super creamy with strong tea flavor, and not overly sweet -- it was really the perfect thai ice tea for my taste. So, I was okay withe the splurge. The pho came out quickly, and it was HUGE. It was bigger than my head! It was loaded with tons of everything, including the meat, which is great since they did not skimp on the good stuff. The broth tasted better than average -- super flavorful, and complex tasting, which I appreciated. I'm not sure if I was able to finish even half of it, but that's okay by me, because that means I'll have a pho lunch tomorrow as well! ;) I am very glad I drove up to Petaluma to drown my sorrows in pho and thai iced tea. It literally made me feel better. After I ate, I started journaling in my notebook with creative ideas -- a sure sign that I was feeling better. Anyhow -- definitely will be back... We were in the area and decided to try this restaurant because of the consistent high ratings on Yelp. It was 93 degrees outside and their front doors were wide open and a/c wasn't working. There were several tables of people eating a late lunch so we decided to stay. We ordered the Vermicelli Bowl with egg rolls and Bird Nest with beef. Our servings were generous and oh so delicious. The egg rolls were crispy and flavorful. The servers are awesome, very friendly and attentive. Even though it was abnormally hot inside the restaurant, the servers were cheerful and stopped by several times to check on us and refill our water. They add a slice of cucumber in your ice water which was a refreshing addition. Can't wait to return when the a/c is working. Plenty of parking available in the huge lot. read more

We got the crispy egg rolls as an appetizer. Was not expecting it to be packed with so much pork which made it really dense. It came out piping hot and paired well with the sweet and sour sauce. However, this was it was not my favorite and a bit pricey in my opinion for $12. The pho here has really large portions and only one size bowl. There is a good amount of toppings in the pho as well. Some places give you lots of steak but only a few pieces of tripe and tendon but not here! The broth was okay but felt like it was lacking some beef flavor. It was more on the lighter side compared to other restaurants. There is ample parking in parking lot. Service was fast and food came out quick. I've been to Petaluma so many times and for some reason or another I've never gone here before. I'm always hesitant to call and ask Asian restaurants if they have MSG in their food since I know it's the easiest way to add flavor. They are "flavor "monosodium glutamate I am highly allergic to! Lol I was pleasantly surprised as I called this particular restaurant and found out they did not have any monosodium glutamate in their broth!! My boyfriend and I shared a huge portion of Pho that's vegetarian with a chicken broth. I wanted to try the mushroom broth but the lady said people usually ordered more chicken or beef.
