Boeuf "Bourguignon"
Wayne H.

We popped in recently for dinner and really had a great time. Service was great - very friendly and accommodating! Since it isn't posted on their menu or site, the corkage for 750ml is $35. Not the cheapest in town but fairly reasonable these days. We started with the leek salad and a special appetizer tartiflette, a French Alpine comfort dish that was super rich and satisfying, especially on a cold winter's night! We should've asked the price first but it ended up being $44, which seems really expensive for an appetizer. The leek salad was cool and refreshing with a creamy dressing and some almonds for textural contrast. Highly recommend this if you enjoy alliums! For mains, I opted for the saucisson lyonnaise, which was really tasty with the mustard sauce. Pistachios added some crunch and the dried fruit added some sweetness and acidity. This is a rich, but well-balanced dish... and as you can see from the pics, they are absolutely not shy with the size of the entrees. My wife has the pork tenderloin wrapped in bacon. In retrospect, the tartiflette also had bacon so we should've had something else but still, the pork was incredibly tender, juicy, and well seasoned. The sauce was rich and complex while the apples added the necessary acidity. Overall, the food was just a lot more polished and enjoyable compared to our first trip. Now in terms of price - it's expensive. Two appetizers, two entrees, and one corkage was $200 before tip. This is a bit expensive to visit semi-regularly, so we'll likely come again for a special occasion!

Always an amazing time here, the service is great and the food is always top notch. This time we got the Garlic sausage brioche which was unexpected and so tasty! Then we had Beef Bourgignon and the Duck Leg Confit which were both amazing. Finished it off with tableside creme brulee.

2nd time here. Just outstanding cuisine. The best French restaurant in the Bay Area!

Kindest people, food that you actually leave and say WOW that was worth every bite, warm and inviting. I am so impressed across the board. Where can you walk in and be greeted by the owner with a hug and a smile on his face while he says, "welcome home." It just doesn't exist anymore. Beef bourguignon is a must.

Bone marrow and escargot appetizer. The only pic I snapped because I was so mesmerized in everything once we started eating!

10 out of 10 dinning experience. The food is unbelievably delicious and the staff and chef Nick put all their love into the food and guests at Brigitte's! The sauces they create for the dishes are out of this world! My boyfriend grew up cooking and working in restaurants in St. Helena so he's a tuff crowd to please and we both CAN NOT wait to go back! Our new goal is to try everything on the menu! Bravo Brigitte Bistro crew, you are absolutely crushing it!

My boyfriend and I were trying to figure out Valentine's Day plans and immediately thought of Brigitte Bistro. We first came back in September and were absolutely blown away, and it has been on our minds ever since. From the curated wine list to their showstopping dishes, they hold French cuisine in the highest regard while still bringing an innovative touch that never strays from its roots. Every dish feels thoughtful, balanced, and deeply satisfying in that classic bistro way. The tableside tartare, tiramisu, and crème brûlée are such standouts and really allow the team to showcase their commitment to hospitality. There is something so special about those interactive moments that make the meal feel memorable rather than just delicious. This is a place that has consistently shown us exactly what we did not know we wanted and completely blown us away each time. It feels both special occasion worthy and somewhere you could become a regular, which is such a rare balance. I truly cannot wait to go back and keep working through the menu and seeing what they do next. My one note would be that the ventilation is not the strongest, but honestly it almost adds to the experience and cozy charm in a way that feels very true to a classic bistro atmosphere.

Hands down the best meal I've eaten all year. Every single dish at Brigitte Bistro was thoughtful, beautifully executed, and unforgettable. From the first bite to the last, it was clear how much care and creativity goes into the menu. I'm already counting down the days until I can come back. I wouldn't be surprised at all to see the chef earn a Michelin star, this is truly that level of dining. Beyond the food, the staff were exceptional. Warm, attentive, and genuinely kind, they made the entire experience feel special. I felt completely spoiled celebrating my birthday here, and it couldn't have been a better choice. Brigitte Bistro is something really special, Petaluma is lucky to have it.

Brigitte Bistro is one of our most favorite restaurants in all of CA Wine Country and last night was simply perfection. ‍ From the moment you walk in the door, you are made to feel so welcome and transported to France. Everything on the menu is divine. Don't miss the escargot with marrow bone, traditional table side streak tartare, beef bourguignon, Wagyu steak frites... it's all so freaking good! Bonus points for excellent service! Chef Nick knows hospitality! The entire staff is A++

Service- 5/5 our server was funny and friendly.he was great and gave us good recommendations Ambiance-4/5 it is a cute place. A tad noisy but only because it was packed with customers Food 4/5 Overall really yummy French bistro dishes Salad Lyonnaise was a bit too greasy for me from the pancetta. Also a tad bit too warm for my taste The appetizer special- it was mushroom with bone marrow (can't remember the name)- Sooooo good. I can eat that all day! Chicken "paupiette" and beef bourguignon- classic and so delicious. We ate every bite! The sauce was the best. Floating island- is like a big piece of macaroon with cream and walnuts. We love it. I personally think the walnut can be chop in pieces instead of whole but that's just a matter of opinion I will definitely come back when I visit Petaluma

Absolutely amazing!! Michelin guide was started based on whether a place is worth the detour and let me tell you, this is a destination! It is THE best French restaurant in the entire Bay Area and worth leaving the San Francisco for. Everything was delicious starting with lyonnaise salad that's large enough for 4 people. The steak tartare is made right in front of you and it is so tasty and fresh. The beef bourguignon is the best I've ever had!! We're all still dreaming about it weeks after. The portions are large and you'll be happy with leftovers. Trust me! The price is so reasonable for the quality and quantity you get anywhere in the Bay Area. Don't skip the dessert even if you're full! For dessert who doesn't love a pistachio tiramisu that is made table side but my favorite is still the classic floating island, which is a classic French dessert of baked meringue floating in a pool of custard, or crème anglaise. We got 2 desserts for 4 and it was plenty to share. The space is so cute in a remodeled gas station corner. It's modern without being stuffy. The service is on point and warm and I saw a number of the patrons hugging the wait staff and owner. It's your neighborhood restaurant if you're lucky enough to live close by but if not, it's absolutely worth the drive on any given day. Can't wait to be back!

Ambiance - slightly on the lounge side Service - on a scale of 1 to 10 my server, Hassan, gets a 12! ‍ Why? His answers to my questions helped me choose - my salad choice of white asparagus with shavings of green asparagus and a dressing medium/lightt dressing that had a cool flavor of mustard seeds. - my choice of Waygu beef with Bernaise sauce. He asked if I wanted it medium-rare and I said hello no I want it rare and he high-fived me! - the white wine ought to be paired for the salad - the red wine that ought to be paired with the Waygu beef. He opened a new bottle at the table. Then he gave me a taste and I choked. Too raw! He poured a bit more and I was swirling but getting anywhere, so he jumped out and got a much larger wine glass and it a few minutes of aeration later it was quite nice. I don't remember ever getting that solution from anywhere I've been in the US or the rest of the world! His advice on the dessert is how he got the "12" rating. It was something that had "floating" in the name. The heart of it was a very light meringue that I've never tasted. Normally meringue tastes like cardboard to me. This version just knocked my culinary socks off! My wife had chosen to order the scallops and loved it. Whew... it WAS Mother's Day after all! Looks like I'm missing the picture of the white asparagus. Apologies.

Great experience all around. From the moment I called to make the reservation, I knew this place was special. The person who answered the phone was so upbeat and welcoming that I honestly thought it might be a recording at first. Super friendly vibe right from the start. It was our first time here, and we came to celebrate a birthday. We weren't sure what to order, so we went with the chef's recommendations -- best decision ever. The couple sitting next to us said they eat here every time they're in town, which says a lot. The food felt Michelin-level without the Michelin prices. The appetizers were incredible, especially the seasonal chanterelle mushrooms that are only available for about a month each year. Our entrées were amazing, the wine was spot-on, and the service couldn't have been better. The whole evening felt relaxed and unhurried, kind of like dining in Paris. Beautiful ambiance, great staff, and an overall perfect night. Highly recommend checking this spot out if you're in the area.

Crème Brûlée- sorry the photo wasn't a video of the table side brûlée process!

Our absolutely favorite place when visiting family in Petaluma! Chef Nick Ronan welcomes you as family and is rightfully proud of the food creations he has curated. I made a second visit this trip with my granddaughter to celebrate her starting her senior year of high school, and he understood and helped us celebrate our special relationship. You cannot go wrong with any selection on the menu, and a perfect place for an early glass of great wine and a beautiful appetizer, salad or the most delightful French onion soup!

California's wine country has made its presence known in the heart of California's cheese country!…read moreLocated in the heart of downtown Petaluma, the Montagne Russe tasting room is the newest tasting room in Petaluma taking over from where Black Knight Vineyards recently had a tasting room. Montagne Russe's full name is Montagne Russe Winery and Record Lounge, and it is exactly what it is, as it is part wine tasting room and part vinyl record store with hundreds of new and pre-used classic record albums for sale. What a perfect place to sip great wine while enjoying hit tracks from the past. Montagne Russe pours some of the nicest wines sourced from across Sonoma County, especially the nearby Petaluma Gap, making this newest tasting venue an ideal spot to soak in the atmosphere while supporting a local business. We've visited Montagne Russe before when their tasting room was at Bacchus Landing in Healdsburg, and while it was a beautiful space, it wasn't always busy. So it's no surprise they made the move to downtown Petaluma this past year. We'd been wanting to check out their new location since they opened over the summer, and finally got the chance during a recent weekend afternoon. With lively crowds outside, parking was harder to come by, as the recommended Keller Street Garage was completely full, but a short walk from the River Plaza parking lot did the trick. Even though we had reservations, we didn't end up needing them when we arrived, but the tasting room was full by the time we left. Winemaker and owner Kevin Bersofsky greeted us with a complimentary splash of their 2022 Sparkling Brut Rosé which had subtle hints of citrus throughout. From there, I enjoyed their Library tasting while my friend enjoyed their Signature tasting, both of which were offered at 35 dollars a person. For our second tasting, I enjoyed their 2019 Silver and Gold Chardonnay while my friend enjoyed their 2023 Roberts Road Chardonnay. My tasting of the Chardonnay tasted as it it was lower in alcohol, but higher in acid than my friend's Chardonnay, but both tasted wonderful. For our third pour, we enjoyed their signature Pinot Noirs, we me enjoying their vintage from 2019 and my friend sipped on their 2022 vintage, which were both sourced from Black Knight Vineyard, of which their wine tasting room they replaced in downtown Petaluma. For our fourth pour, I enjoyed their 2021 Terra De Promissio Pinot Noir, while my friend enjoyed their 2022 "Quatre Cinq Un" Pinot Noir, for both of these wines, the tannins were not too overpowering but you could definitely taste them. For our fifth and final pour, I enjoyed their 2018 Robert's Road Pinot Noir, which had hints of baking spices and cherries, while my friend enjoyed their 2021 Alder Springs Syrah, which was lush and silky smooth. For 70 dollars, not including gratuity, we enjoyed a lovely afternoon of wine tasting. When we made our reservation, there was a note about being able to bring in takeout from nearby restaurants, though it never came up once we began our tasting and honestly, we were too focused on the wines to think about food. As the afternoon went on, the crowd grew significantly, and at times it felt like we got a bit lost in the shuffle when it came to service. Still, we made the most of our visit and thoroughly enjoyed both the wines and the people-watching. With Montagne Russe still relatively new to the downtown Petaluma community, I can easily see them thriving here for a long time to come.

They served their sparkling brut Rose and plenty of Pinot Noir, all from Sonoma County, Sonoma Coastal, & Petaluma Gap appellation. One that stood out to us was the 2022 Dragons Back Pinot Noir. A classic tasty Pinot. They went all out and offered tasty bites that really enhanced their wines. They used to be in Healdsburg at Bacchus Landing a much larger location but not centrally located so moving to historical downtown Petaluma gives them an opportunity to attract a larger audience especially since their wines are sourced from the cooler Sonoma county region. What a fine job of remodeling the tasting room. I don't know how they did it but somehow the place seems wider and larger than the previous tasting room at this location. They opened the back with some large gathering tables and their vast selection of records is housed in the back as well. They added some small tables throughout the space. It's easy to maneuver. They also allow guests to bring food inside, so you can sip, sit, nosh & listen to some tunes. There are plenty of eateries around so it's any easy stop. As I write this review I'm reminiscing how well their Sparkling Brut Rose and Dragons Back Pinot Noir went so well with a prosciutto sandwich they offered at their grand opening. A great match, and good representation of Sonoma Coast, Petaluma Gap wines.

Salad was good, nice mix of greens. A little wet for my taste if I'm choosing but I'm also not complaining, it was yummy. The potatoes were a perfect dish to come with the salad since otherwise it didn't have a crunch element. This is the first time I've gotten the collar and it was as meaty as it is. I've ordered at other restaurants before and it was not as successful of a dish as here. Loved the sauce and flavors on it. It was kinda sticky due to the sauce but I mean that in a good way, to add to the flavor and overall balance of texture and flavor The snapper lettuce wraps were also yummy! Kind of laborious to get the fish to eat ready but worth the effort, same with the collar too, but also worth the "work" to get the meat off the bones. The snapper has a lot of pin bones but otherwise really yummy bite. The rock wall in the alley creates a whole vibe with the lights and such. It is also one of the oldest walls in Petaluma, which is pretty cool. Slim menu but excellent. The restaurant is tiny, like 6 tables. Being on the patio was nice, more room. Our meal split 4 ways was delicious and filling but also light and sat well in our bellies. I'd absolutely come back again.

From the starters (we arrived before 6 pm, in time for their happy hour menu) to dessert, there's little room for anything but the highest praise. The wood fired carrots that came at the same time were also tasty, but had a hard time competing with their fried companion dish. For our mains, I've gotten the Sweet Gems Salad more times than I care to admit - and love it every time. My friend enjoyed the Funghi pizza with foraged mushrooms. For my son's fried chicken, we should probably have asked for more gravy. It seemed a little dry, but still tasty. Then, since we almost never skip dessert, the strawberry pies were flavorful without being at all oversweetened. And their bittersweet chocolate torte is rich and always served warm. Our server, Christine, wasn't wrong to tease us about hoping we'd be back next week. She was thoughtful and attentive, without hovering, throughout the meal.
