My family and I have come to Tolay Restaurant more times than I can count. We've mainly come for Thanksgiving, and few times friends and I would drop in for a quick bite or a quick drink. This year, 2026, I was trying to find a business that was opened and took reservations for Mother's Day as well as possibly having a special menu for this day. It seemed like most didn't have any sort of special menu or didn't take reservations. I finally was able to get in contact with someone from Tolay and they did say that they were having a Mother's Day Brunch that was $30 per person and it included an all you can eat buffet that was servicing French Toast as they normally don't do that for the Saturday/Sunday brunches and it included a mimosa. Well, I made reservations for my daughter and I and we went. We had a 10:30am reservation, we were immediately seat by the window with a view of the swimming pool. There wasn't many people there but a few more showed up later. Now I was told that they started doing a buffet on Saturday & Sunday but instead of French Toast they served pancakes, they only did the French Toast as a special Mother's Day treat. The buffet isn't huge but you get all your essentials: French Toast, scrambled eggs, bacon (and it was crispy, not like most restaurants where it doesn't even look cooked), sausages, fruits, oatmeal, cereal, yogurt, pastries, toast, bagels, etc. You also got coffee, tea, water, milk, juice, etc., or a mimosa and so we opted for the mimosa as our drink. The food was good, and like I said it's not a huge buffet but it's decent. The service was good and the place was pleasant. I will definitely come back for the weekend buffet as well as come back a little more often for weekday food. read more

We decided to take a staycation here at the Sheraton and got a dinner in the restaurant Tolay. The ambiance may need some work - maybe a little dimmer lights. With that being said, the food was really delicious. The tacos, the sliders and the fries were all surpassing our expectations. A specific shout out to their waiter Barbara, who may be the kindest, and more attentive person we have ever met. Came to the restaurant for some grub on our anniversary, stayed for her company. Considering we had to make reservations for their Mother's Day buffet, I had thought the food and experience would be amazing. Sadly, it was horrible. The food options were weird (Indian, Asian & American all for brunch) and the flavor was basically bland. We bussed our own table and had to ask for drinks because no one was checking in on us. Although the bartender was nice (& he tried to be helpful) the entire staff here pretty much stood around and talked while we waited on ourselves. Considering we are mothers trying to celebrate Mother's Day by taking a day off... this was a very bad experience for all four of us at our table. I do NOT recommend this place. We were staying at the hotel, as we have many times before, I finally thought we should try the restaurant. So happy we did! Tiny menu, but I knew ahead, so we were ready. The hamburger was superb, my chicken Cobb salad was perfect. My salad was super crisp and full of avocado and Chicken. The total standout was the beer battered onion rings! Even though I carried them to the room before eating, they were delicious! Great onion flavor and so crispy! My husband said the hamburger was one of the best he's ever had! The New York steak with mashed potatoes was very good. The Caesar salad did not impress and all thr lettuce leaves were light green color. We were told that the wine we wanted was not available because the evening before the restaurant had sold the last bottle of it. They were also out of wine glasses that we wanted because other patrons were using them, and the restaurant was not fully booked as it was a Monday evening. So they basically do not have enough wine glasses. We were made to wait for a long time, without even bread and butter or seasoned olive oil. Next to us sat a woman who complained about having to wait. So basically the experience was not above so-so. A warning to consumers: a 25% gratuity is included in the bill. read more

We ordered Cajun pasta, Tolay beef burger and the sweet and spicy chicken wings to go. Everyone enjoyed their choices but the pasta was bland so we just added S&P and it was much better. Went to Tolay Restaurant for their Mother's Day Brunch last Sunday. I knew it was a buffet but was disappointed in the foods choices and quality. They did offer scrambled eggs, bacon, and sausage, which was ok but cold. My husband said they Egg Benedict was ok but cold and has an untraditional sauce (not regular hollandaise sauce) He said it a had a spice to it. Other selections offered were curry, naan bread, gumbo, some kind of stir fry, bowl of lettuce (nothing else in the salad - just baby lettuce greens) big bowl of Ranch dressing (no other dressings offered) They did not have pancakes, waffles, toast, bagels, butter or jam. No biscuits and gravy. Some of the items they had a few years ago when we came for brunch and anticipated they'd be part of the buffet offerings. Just disappointed. I couldn't find their Brunch menu online anywhere and I didn't call to inquire. That's on me. For $55.00 per person, I just was disappointed. Waste of money. Wow! Just wow! After a tedious day of traveling I saunter in on Thanksgiving evening at 6:54pm. Hangry and tired. The front desk informed me that the restaurant was closing at 7 tonight. I tried my luck and asked if I could possibly just order food to go to my room. Barbara was an angel! She invited me to sit down and relax! Dinner for 1 on Thanksgiving is a little unusual and maybe sad but she chatted me up and made me feel so welcomed! I didn't even get a chance to look at the menu because there was only 1 option for Thanksgiving dinner. When my food came out my jar dropped! It was amazing! Don't tell my parents... On October 26, 2005, my rave review of Tolay appeared in the Argus Courier (on Page B6). EVERYTHING -- food, service and ambiance -- was first rate. That was then, this is now. As just an ordinary diner I enjoyed a total of 2 or 3 excellent meals with friends since that review but I hadn't been back for quite some time. (I understand the hotel changed hands sometime before COVID so perhaps there lies the problem.) Monday evening 8/21/23 five of us met at Tolay; two of our friends were guests at the hotel -- and they reported having a very enjoyable breakfast earlier that morning. When we arrived at the restaurant at 7 PM, it was fairly crowded and we were seated almost immediately. Then we waited... and waited... as there WAS ONLY ONE WAITER FOR THE ENTIRE ROOM. We were not even given water or bread. When we tackled him on the rebound, we asked for the wine list but were told THAT THEY "ONLY HAD 30% OF THE WINE" PRINTED ON THE NONAVAILABLE LIST!! So we all got up and left and met at Sol downtown in Theatre Square. We had a very nice meal and a GREAT LAUGH DISCUSSING THE UNPROFESSIONAL WAY TOLAY RUNS A RESTAURANT AND THE PROFESSIONAL WAY THAT SOL DOES. So my advice to you is... STAY AWAY FROM TOLAY!! Since I was staying at the Sheraton, I came for breakfast a couple of times. The first time it was on the slow end and the waitress forgot part of my order. I had the eggs benedicts with potatoes. She forgot my caffe mocha. Apparently, she had to take it from the front desk area. Second time it was even worse. Unfortunately, they are severely under staffed and while we waited over 30 minutes for the food, we had to leave cause of other appointments so we never got the food we ordered. First of all-PLEASE NOTE, they do not honor yelps 15% off. I'm not sure why they have not contacted yelp to remove this as it doesn't seem fair to the people who are expecting the 15% off the bill with a Yelp check in. With that said, my overall experience with this restaurant was not awful as I thought it would be, upon arrival. I arrived around noon on a Saturday to meet friends. The restaurant was hardly busy and there wasn't a hostess to seat myself or the people who had been already waiting for 15 minutes. Eventually, I was seated, brought ice water and my friends arrived. We then had to wait 25 minutes (at least) for the server to be finished with her break to take our orders. It was pretty surprising that they were that short staffed. I seriously was about to get up and leave once they informed me the manager refuses to accept Yelp or restaurant.coms. Long story short- my experience at Tolay had a happy ending:). I got the veggie sandwich which was AMAZING! Fresh veggies, goat cheese and the bread was unbelievable. It was served with yummy shoestring fries. Oh. Tucked away in a corner of Petaluma with a fantastic view of the marina and Sonoma County sunset, Tolay was the perfect spot for a quiet, intimate dinner after a busy day of wine tasting. Started with a perfectly balanced Maker's mark old fashioned cocktail and the appetizer of the day, asparagus risotto balls with crispy prosciutto. Moist risotto on the inside, flaky crispy bread crumbs on the outside. Yum. Prosciutto was heavenly, too. Ordered the seared ahi tuna as my entree and it did not disappoint. Seared ahi tuna was of the likes of Tender Greens in Los Angeles (my favorite local spot to frequent for its seared ahi) and the bok choy was drizzled with some kind of addicting sauce. Last but not least, ordered Chef's special bread pudding for dessert which was generously portioned and flaky to a T. This is the restaurant that is in the Sheraton hotel. We ate both dinner and breakfast here and were pleased both times. Some friends in the area met us for dinner the night of our stay. We were seated quickly, it was a Monday night at 8 pm so don't know if that's saying much. Our server was prompt and took our orders and brought out food quickly. The atmosphere is not too bad, it's on a lower sunken level than the lobby with a view of the pool. Service was all really friendly and thanks to the 15% off yelp offer coupon it wasn't too pricey for the meal, considering its hotel food. Our server checked on gluten free options for me and there was actually quite a few appetizers and entrees I could choose from. My dad and I ordered the steak and fries. Our steaks were right on regarding the temperatures. Seasoning and flavor was great. I also ordered the spring rolls, they were ok but I wouldn't order them again. I was super excited to see they offered gluten free bread which they brought out to me with butter. Our friends had the fish tacos and an Asian noodle dish which they were both really pleased with. The next morning my dad and I stopped in and ordered the eggs and bacon. This time our server was not gluten free aware and really unhelpful. After my meal came out there was all this seasoning on the potatoes. I asked to see if it was gf and she was clueless but offered to bring me a plate of fruit to substitute if I wanted to just eat around them. Eggs and bacon and my gf toast were good. Had a very wonderful evening here for Christmas Eve dinner! Barbara was our server and she was so incredibly kind, cheerful, and an exceptional server! We had the prime rib and lobster dinner. The Brussels sprout salad was so delicious and such a large portion! The prime rib was delicious and the lobster was very tasty! I enjoyed the mashed potatoes and gravy as well. This restaurant is located inside the Sheraton hotel. I'm deducting a star because it closes at 9pm which is too early for a hotel restaurant because traveling people generally don't have time to pick up food elsewhere and rely on hotel offerings. In fact I often choose my hotels based on whether or not they have a restaurant. That being said, when we walked into the restaurant at 9pm and were told the restaurant was closed, the staff were very friendly and accommodating. A very nice man named George took our order and personally brought it to our rooms! The food: grilled cheese sandwich and tomato basil soup-this was one of the best grilled cheese sandwiches I've ever had. Crispy on the outside, gooey oozing cheese on the inside, and the pesto and tomato slices took it up a notch. 10/10 Tomato basil soup was ok, but lacked basil. If it wasn't marketed as having basil I'd have been less disappointed. It was hearty and warming however, and wasn't spicy which my mother in law appreciated so I rate it 7/10. The cheese flatbread had a lot of cheese. Cheese lovers will celebrate, but I thought it was a tad bit too much cheese which made the crust a bit soggy. It was mild in flavor which is ok but I would have bumped it up a notch with parm and red pepper flakes if I had them--sadly I didn't. 8/10. Lamb popsicles--I don't like lamb but my husband loves it. He said he enjoyed them immensely. I tried the mashed potatoes which were very creative--I think they had cauliflower mixed in which added a delightful texture. I rate the mashed potatoes 9/10 and my hubs rates the lamb as 9/10. The cheesecake was massive! I came to Sheraton with my family to celebrate my birthday. I had a great experience here, and I am sure that I'd come back again. Started off the meal with Beef Sliders with truffle tremor appetizer. The beef was cooked very well. They added truffle tremor and caramelized onion that made it amazing and flavorful. Ordered the pan seared airline chicken for the main course. The chicken had citrus flavor and tasted very good. It was layered on top of potato puree and sautéed spinach. The entire dish had very nice presentation and the textures were well balanced. I came here to celebrate my birthday. The restaurant prepared a birthday cake with cheese cake, which is my favorite. Haphazard service, with meals for my group of 10 arriving over the course of 20 minutes, and some drinks arriving at the end of the meal. Food was similarly haphazard. If this was a free standing establishment, it would get three stars. I come to this hotel every three months and spend three to four days. During that time, I usually eat at least one lunch and two to three dinners here. A typical dinner is the prime roast, garlic mashed potatoes, and steamed veggies. The food is good. Not great. Not bad. Good. Portions are adequate. Prices are average. Service is friendly and quick. Decor is your basic, "hotel bland". Overall, a very decent place to dine when you don't rent a car. One caveat: The menu is limited and seemingly unchanging. If you come here often enough, you will know it as well as the servers. read more

I ordered the lasagnette and it was about the size of a silver dollar pancake. It was quite good though! The colored sauces each had a distinctively different vegetable base. And it was super pretty. The black shrimp pasta was also rather small portioned, especially for its price. They gave you a decent amount of fish and chips, though! My friends couldn't finish them. And they said the fish batter was not that heavily greasy either. The creme brulee is AMAZINGLY GOOD, but I've yet to try a creme brulee I didn't like. Overall the service was nice and food was decent, but I wouldn't come back because I feel like the prices aren't worth the atmosphere, portions, and taste. read more

For $29 during restaurant week it might just be the best meal in Petaluma, hands down! Other than that here are the highlights -Breakfast! killer breakfast everytime from the benedicts to the waffles its all good -Sonoma County Meat and Cheese Board -Liberty Duck Spring Rolls - i love these things and order them almost every time -Lettuce Wraps - nice heat but great balance to the sauce -BBQ Pork Sliders- I think these are new to the menu and oh so good its a neo classic Korean edition to the slider, I love them -Salmon Bento Box - one of my favorite dishes for lunch -Salads- literally all the salads are delicious try the Tolay Taco Salad with Achiote Dressing or the Steak Salad with crispy onion rings, blue cheese and a reduce balsalmic -Brick Chicken - has a black bean and corn tamale with afew beautifully placed sauces around the plate - truly a great value for this type of dish What I love most about Tolay is its totally unpretentious and they have one of the best happy hours around, 50% off food on the lounge menu and lots of drink specials, go try for yourself Im sure you'll be pleased read more

Points for convenience, and definite points for my tasty breakfast. I had the steel-cut oatmeal ($6), which came with golden raisins, honey, and brown sugar. It also was listed on the menu as coming with milk, but I ended up having to ask for this separately. Drawbacks? Tiny tables and a small space in general means it fills up fast and gets really loud. Service was also fairly subpar... It took us about 45 minutes to get oatmeal and a scramble (which my fiance said was only mediocre, and cost $12 or $13). There was no division of labor between the staff, so the maitre d' was also sometimes our waiter and sometimes also a busboy. Hard to know who to ask for what! And maybe explains some of the delay. The staff was very friendly; we were seated right away and had our choice of seating, looking out over the hotel's pool at the Petaluma Marina at sunset. Started with a pear martini...luscious! and a fried calamari starter with aioli with a hint of curry accompanied by a spicy slaw. Delicious. I enjoyed a perfectly seared salmon steak over orzo rissoto accompanied by perfectly cooked crunchy asparagus spears. My husband had fish and chips...moist and crunchy, the chips thin and crispy, the result of a flavorful flour dusting before going into the fryer. Executive Chef Danny Mai came to our table to wish us a happy anniversary, a nice gesture, and accepted our compliments on the meal.
