The Buckhorn is one of Petaluma's best kept secrets. The bartenders are great and the drinks are wet. If you are looking for a fancy place then this is knot it. If you are looking for a local place where the working person goes, then this is the place for you.

Cool little pub I found in Petaluma. 80 years and counting. It has been here awhile. Had a good time and the price is right.

Not a huge selection of beers on tap but some good IPA, clean pool tables, not super crazy on Friday night.

I am also really into their home style Italian meals. First, I love the staff here. They were so helpful and accomodating of our special needs child. The servers are really great and take good care of their tables. Also, I really like the classy, kind of old fashioned look of the place. It's kind of classy, but also totally casual. The food here is the main reason I come. The happy hour is great for a little lower costs on a few of their food items. We love ordering some meatballs, a salad, and one of their pizzas. The pizza we had was their Green Goddess and it was delicious! I also ordered their fresh baked sourdough with butter and it's one of the most comforting foods to me. I also got their Seafood Pasta, which reminds me of my East coast, Italian roots. The Italian sausage in the dish works beautifully with the assortment of perfectly cooked seafood and pasta. Hanks is definitely a place I will return to anytime I get the chance. It's a great place!

It's one of those rare places that always feels like the right choice. Over time we've gotten to know the owner a bit, which just adds to the welcoming, personal feel of the place. The service is consistently great--friendly, attentive, and never overbearing. The wine selection is fantastic and really well curated. What I appreciate most is how they meet you where you are--if you just want a great glass of wine, they've got you. If you want to learn a little more, they're happy to guide you. And if you feel like geeking out on wine, they can absolutely go there too. They also sometimes project old movies on the wall, which adds a really fun, laid-back vibe and makes the whole experience even more memorable. It's comfortable, unpretentious, and always a good time. Hard to ask for more in a neighborhood wine bar. We'll keep coming back.

Obviously they have an extensive wine list and they are extremely knowledgeable about all things wine so it makes ordering easier. We were with a large group of about 10 people so we shared bottles as well as ordered by the glass. Several people in the group were raving about the soup of the day, saying how delicious it was and they have had it before. Soup wasn't my first thought with wine but I'm so glad I got it. It was filled with white beans, veggies, and so flavorful. I don't remember the exact name of it but I still think about how good it was. It literally was the best soup I've ever had! They have a great food menu in general. The vibe of the place is upbeat and chill at the same time. Besides being beautiful with wine as decor, it's a cozy feel with groups and couples all enjoying themselves. It's an upscale look but you feel like you are at a friend's house. Highly recommend stopping in for a glass, or bottle of wine and some food!

The gumbo was superb, creamy, with chunks of sausage and not too spicy nor salty just the right amount of herbs & spices, very tasty. Then we ordered the fried chicken dinner another winner. And the third dish was the broiled shrimp, the shrimp were bathed in a buttery, garlic and other Cajun seasoning and herbs, just perfectly cooked and the toasted, diagonally sliced bread was perfect to dunk and sope up the flavorful sauce. The Presentation was spot on, service was fantastic, food arrived promptly. They even offered Beignets a standard New Orleans dessert but we were too full, I'm still thinking about them. I like that there is a host greeting and guiding one into the restaurant or the large bar area. McNears is an anchor of Petaluma. Good pub food, great service and welcoming employees. We were going to order only 1 churro but the server offered that the churros are gluten free so we ordered two orders! The menu doesn't say this, so FYI. They were one of the best potato preparations I've ever had. Shockingly fluffy and light inside literally like a potato cloud. Maybe the cheese helps with this? I don't know but get them. Salad was good, nice mix of greens. A little wet for my taste if I'm choosing but I'm also not complaining, it was yummy. The potatoes were a perfect dish to come with the salad since otherwise it didn't have a crunch element. This is the first time I've gotten the collar and it was as meaty as it is. I've ordered at other restaurants before and it was not as successful of a dish as here. Loved the sauce and flavors on it. It was kinda sticky due to the sauce but I mean that in a good way, to add to the flavor and overall balance of texture and flavor The snapper lettuce wraps were also yummy! Kind of laborious to get the fish to eat ready but worth the effort, same with the collar too, but also worth the "work" to get the meat off the bones. The snapper has a lot of pin bones but otherwise really yummy bite. The rock wall in the alley creates a whole vibe with the lights and such. It is also one of the oldest walls in Petaluma, which is pretty cool. Slim menu but excellent. The restaurant is tiny, like 6 tables. Being on the patio was nice, more room. Our meal split 4 ways was delicious and filling but also light and sat well in our bellies. I'd absolutely come back again.

This review reflects my experience with the restaurant's gift card process and, more specifically,…read morethe lack of communication, follow-through, and accountability from owner Tony Najiola over the course of several months. This review is not a reflection of the restaurant's food, service, or dining experience. In November 2025 I purchased a $150 gift card through Central Market's website via Toast. The gift card was never received. I first reached out in February 2026 to inquire about the missing gift card. Tony responded the following day suggesting that I may have been scammed. After I clarified that the purchase was made directly through Central Market's website, he acknowledged that he had misunderstood, stated that this was a known issue, and told me he would contact Toast to investigate. March 2026: A month passed with no update whatsoever. I called the restaurant and spoke with Tony directly. He told me that I would need to contact Toast myself--a completely different answer from what had previously been discussed. April 2026: I informed Tony via email that Toast's customer service system specifically states that support is intended for restaurant businesses, not customers. I followed up again by email on 4/30 asking if he had received my message and whether there was any update. I have received no response since. What is most disappointing is the lack of clarity and consistency throughout this process. At various points, I was told I may have been scammed, then told it was a known issue that would be investigated, and finally told to resolve it myself through a company that does not provide support to customers in this situation. Not once was there a proactive update, clear explanation, or meaningful attempt to resolve the issue. More than five months after paying $150, I still do not have the gift card (which was intended as a Christmas present for a close friend), a refund, or even the courtesy of a response to my follow-up emails. When a business takes a customer's money, there should be some level of accountability when something goes wrong. At this point, I can only conclude that customer service is not a priority. The complete lack of communication and follow-through has left me feeling that my concerns--and my business--simply do not matter. Based on my experience, I would strongly caution others against purchasing gift cards through their website.
