    Tri Tip & Eggs

In town to visit family and as always I truly believe breakfast is the most important meal of the day so we thought we would try this local establishment. A unique and funky diner with a 50's vibe feel to it. The staff friendly and happy to serve you, we were seated outside, small inside dining but the decor really made the ambiance. Fits with the city of Petaluma by displaying farm related items with colorful signs and local trivia. Large menu with comfort food dishes as well as new twists to old standards, but you better come hungry because the portions are large. Everything we ordered was very good. Keep it up Sax's it will keep them coming..... Mangiamo!

This is the ultimate breakfast/brunch spot. After eating here the first morning, we already knew we were coming back the next day. I'm actually glad it's not closer to home, because I'd be here all the time. The portions are generous, the service is friendly, and the whole place has a great 1950s diner vibe with old photos, memorabilia, and music from that era. I had the eggs benedict both mornings, once with the house potatoes and once with the hash browns. Both potato sides were excellent. The house potatoes had crispy bits, creamy centers, and a dollop of sour cream, while the hash browns were crisp outside and soft inside. I swear I cannot make potatoes like that at home. The eggs benedict were also outstanding. Instead of a thin slice of ham or Canadian bacon, they used a real ham steak. I love eggs benedict, and these were some of the best I've had. My partner had the chicken fried chicken one morning and chicken and waffles the next, and loved both. He also shared a biscuit with me, which was very good. I was tempted by the biscuits and gravy on day two, but the eggs benedict were too good not to order again.

My boyfriend and I have been wanting to get some diner breakfast food and this place scratched the itch! First, there are so many options on the menu to choose from! My boyfriend ordered biscuits and gravy with a side of bacon, and I ordered the crab cake bene. Both plates were huge! The biscuits were big and fluffy, and the side of bacon was generous, thick and crispy. The poached eggs on my bene were cooked perfectly and I liked the crab cakes, but they weren't the best I've had (I felt like there could've been a little more crab). Lastly, I don't normally go for sweet breakfasts, but the French toast passing by looked amazing! Service was friendly and quick, and the price point for the amount of food was very reasonable. This is a fun and cute little spot, and I'd definitely recommend!

Joint in Time Locally-owned joint that's been slinging breakfast to Santa Rosans for almost fifteen years (circa 2013) in a throwback, retro '50s-style diner. They're known for generous portions and traditional American fare--sometimes with a twist. The Good: * Service was friendly enough, and they got our orders right. Also, please note, once you get your check you can just go straight up to the cashier to pay your tab. * Outdoor dining * Crab Cakes and Grits was certainly a very interesting dish. Hard to describe, yet tasted like you'd imagine, if that makes sense. *Pricing is fair, given the giant portions. * Who doesn't love diner coffee? The Meh: * Free street parking only. We didn't have any issues finding parking, but we were here on a Friday, and we'd heard it gets pretty packed on the weekends. * Loudmouth locals who like to grope the waitresses and speak loudly enough that we know he dropped two deuces that morning before arriving. * A lot of the food just felt underseasoned and bland. The biscuit, for example, looked fluffy and amazing, but it had an almost dry flavor: just flour and baking soda. The Ugly: * I know they've been open for a while now, and making breakfast involves a lot of grease and whatnot. But the place just felt grungy and in need of a good scrubbing. Kinda like me, but I digress... * They also need to get some better lighting in there, as it felt very dark, which didn't help with the aforementioned dingy part. Conclusion: Decent option if you're in town and looking for a place for some rib-sticking breakfast.

Delicious food, big portions, and incredibly nice waitresses. It kinda felt like I was in a Grease Movie, I loved the decor!

We were looking for a good Sunday brunch spot and Sax's kept coming up. Located near downtown Petaluma, it's located in a small pink painted diner with multiple rooms. We were seated quickly around 11:30am on Sunday in their back room, which included kitschy decor including a standing Elvis. We ordered a Bloody Mary (spicy and topped with celery and bacon) and a mimosa, $9 and 10. Also had a cup of coffee which was smooth and strong ($3.50/each). I had the California Benedict ($18) which had perfect eggs, avocado and bacon on top of a sourdough English muffin. One side had nicely crispy bacon while the other was a little fatty. It was enough to fill me without the side of potatoes. Husband had country fried steak ($20) which he gobbled down with country gravy, two eggs on the side with country potatoes and sour cream. We also saw other diners getting blueberry pancakes (huge!), chicken and waffles, and the burger, which all looked tasty. We also got two cinnamon buns to go and can't wait to eat them. Service was friendly though one of the other waitresses was yelling in the kitchen which was a little off putting. Overall, it's a popular spot which I would recommend.

What's fun restaurant! I love the 50s retro theme. The staff were all very friendly, service was fast. We ordered the florentine eggs Benedict and the Little P which included eggs, bacon, and sourdough French toast. My eggs Benedict was perfectly cooked! Delicious hollandaise sauce and eggs poached perfectly. My breakfast at potatoes were delicious- they were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The French toast was incredible. It had a really good crunch on the outside. We will definitely be back when we are in town to try more of the menu!

My family loves Sax's. The theming, staff and ambiance really makes this a special experience. The family that runs this restaurant is great. They love the community and it shows. The retro 1950's, pink biker theming is so fun. I've tried many things on the menu here. As I get older, I find that I can't really handle eating one of their delicious cinnamon rolls without feeling ill. This makes me very sad, but that's life. I find lots of other wonderful things I can eat! Today, I ordered their Surf n Turf breakfast and it was sooooo good! The ribeye with the garlic shrimp is so delicious and well seasoned! Plus, for $30 I think it's a pretty good deal for the quality and quantity you get. My wife had a scramble that she loved, I also want to mention that their kids breakfasts are the best deals of pretty much every breakfast place I've been to in Sonoma County. My daughter had their pancakes, eggs and sausage and it was only $7. If you haven't been to Sax's then please go check them out! They are awesome!

TT French Toast. Oh so good!

First time to this gem and it certainly will not be my last. My wife and I split a TT French Toast and an egg scrambler. Perfection! The food was amazing, the vibe in this place was relaxed; overall a fantastic meal with a wonderful ambiance. Give them your business, it's definitely a hit!

Sax's is a great go to for breakfast or lunch. They're a mainstay in Petaluma and have been there for decades. Super popular! I had the French toast and for $5, made it a meal with two crispy pieces of bacon and two perfectly poached eggs. It was wonderful!! couldn't even finish it and was fortunate enough to bring the remainder home with the Marionberry butter they make fresh on site. Reasonable prices, fast, friendly staff, and plenty of street parking. The only downside is that since strollers aren't allowed due to space arrangements, you might find yourself seated next to a family with one or more children and those little ones can sure be loud! If you don't mind, then no problem. If you do, see if you can sit outside at least the open air will carry the sounds of crying away quicker.

    Awful experience!

Since someone decided to send a very aggressive and abusive message to me, calling me all these names, I decided to post pictures of the bugs that were in our food per their request. Thanks Mason M. for your harassing message in response to my Yelp review. These photos are for you because you wanted so hard to talk trash about me and my experience. Like I told the manager, if you like to eat bugs go ahead! It's not something I'm into, but y'all go ahead. Eat at your own discretion! Mason M. and anyone else trolling I will report you to Yelp. An internet troll is someone who intentionally disrupts online communities by posting inflammatory, offensive, or provocative content to upset others. Trolling often involves making false claims, spreading misinformation, or engaging in personal attacks to incite conflict and negativity. While some trolls may exhibit traits associated with darker personality types, research suggests that anyone can engage in trolling behavior depending on the situation and their emotional state

I finally had a delicious brunch at Sax's Joint after wanting to try them for years! I'm so glad the stars aligned and I got the chance to stop by. The overall vibe is very cutesy and unique- it's themed like a classic American 1950s diner, and pretty much everything is pink. The staff was super friendly and welcoming, and their patio is dog-friendly. Some places I've visited that claim to have dog-friendly patios make us feel like we're an inconvenience they're forced to accommodate to get business, but that was absolutely not the case here. The staff was so sweet to my dog, which I really appreciated. They don't have wifi, and there's a sign indoors that says, "There is no wifi here. Pretend it's the 1950s and talk to the person next to you." We spent our entire brunch experience here talking to multiple other friendly patrons who gave us some recommendations for experiences in Petaluma. I can't remember the last time I ate a meal and spent the whole time talking to other folks with no one looking down at their phones. Refreshing! I had the French Toast, which didn't disappoint - it was huge, and I had to take more than half of it to go, which made for a delicious second round at home. I look forward to returning and exploring more of their menu in the future.

Can you convert the patio to a drive thru?

I wish we could but there's a city ordinance in Petaluma that will not let any more drive-through's in the city so we would have to wait till one of them gets taken down lol

Probably not. Sax is not a fast food joint, but to enjoy the experience you should not try to put a finite time limit. I have experienced a somewhat long wait for food to arrive, and I don't mean that in a negative way. That being said, the…

Instead of checking the transaction or simply asking for clarification, the manager followed the girls outside and accused them again of stealing. The girls explained that they had just purchased the cups directly from her. The manager continued to lecture them about stealing and never acknowledged that she may have been mistaken. The girls were so uncomfortable and embarrassed that they quickly finished their fries and left. After I called to explain what happened, the manager told me that she believed she had given my daughter's friend a cup for water and that she had filled that cup with soda. That simply was not what happened. My daughter paid $6.59 through Apple Cash, which is exactly what she paid for the two sodas. The other girl's mother also confirmed her daughter's separate purchase of the milkshake and fries through Apple Pay. I understand that mistakes and misunderstandings happen. What is incredibly disappointing is that instead of simply checking the transaction and realizing she had misunderstood the situation, the manager accused two polite kids of stealing, followed them outside, and lectured them as though they were criminals. She did apologize to us as parents, but what really mattered was how she treated the girls in the moment. They deserved an apology too. My daughter used to go to Acme Burger frequently with her friends. After this experience, she told me, "We'll go get food somewhere else now for sure." I don't blame her. A misunderstanding could have been resolved in seconds. The way these girls were treated turned it into an incredibly upsetting, humiliating experience.

You can tell they take pride in what they serve. If you're anywhere near Petaluma and love great barbecue, do yourself a favor and stop here. I will definitely be back, and next time I'll probably be thinking about that peach tres leches cake the entire drive there!

It was a Sunday afternoon around lunch time, and it was busy! Every table outside and on the porch was occupied. We went inside to order, and were greeted with a very upscale experience. Lovely market, beautiful looking food, nice decor. Overall, it made a positive impression. We waited in quite a long line to order, but it went fast, and the staff was doing a great job processing all of the food orders coming in. We decided to order a tri-tip sandwich in sauce and a pulled pork sandwich. Plus a large order of baked beans. When we got outside, there was a table available. voila! Just what we needed. As for the food, I was expecting epic BBQ from this place given how consistently busy it is every time I'm near. Maybe my expectations were just too high. Our sandwiches were large. In fact they were large enough to split. But, they were just sort of disappointing. They didn't have a ton of flavor and the sauce was a little bit ketchupy. I would also be shocked if I ever learned that those baked beans did not come right from a can. (My bad for ordering beans without seeing them first or asking if they were housemade.) I do wish I had remembered to photograph the food, but alas, I did not. Overall, if someone else wanted to go eat at Lombardi's while I was in Petaluma, I would go with them. But, I won't hurry back or rave about it to anyone who asks.

After waiting for quite some time with no update, the employee handling pickup orders--who identified herself as the manager--eventually realized she had my order. Instead of simply handing it off, she spoke to me with an attitude and told me that next time I needed to let her know I was there for a pickup. I had already done exactly that when I walked in and spoke to the front staff member. The situation became even more uncomfortable when I asked for names. The manager approached me in a hostile manner and continued with an unprofessional tone, offering a phone number "if I really felt it was necessary." This experience was frustrating because the issue appeared to be a lack of communication between staff, yet I was treated as if I had done something wrong. I've never had such a negative interaction over something as simple as picking up an order.

Yesterday was a day we couldn't decide what to have for lunch. So I went online to the Petaluma…read moreFood Taxi website and started looking at all the restaurant options for food. I was rattling off various restaurant names and food options when suddenly someone mentioned pizza! Now I've had pizza from several different places in town, none of which interested me or my co-worker then I remembered that this particular Acme location had a pizza oven from the prior restaurant (RIP Flamez), so I brought it up. We agreed to order the pizza and a salad to share. Now they only have1 pizza size to chose from (10") which just comes with cheese, if you want any other toppings it's an additional fee. We added pepperoni, sweet Italian sausage and red onions. I then looked at the salad options and ordered the South West Salad and decided to add red onions and avocado to it at an additional fee. I also chose ranch dressing. In addition I ordered a Dr. Pepper drink for my co-worker. It took approximately 40 minutes from start to delivery. PFT is pretty darn accurate on their times unlike those other delivery services. When our order arrived, the pizza was the perfect temperature as well as the salad, and the ice was not melted in the drink. About the only thing that we didn't get were plates, forks, napkins and I was surprised that we didn't get the ranch dressing for the salad. Nothing like having a "dry" salad. So we grabbed a bunch of paper towels and ate the pizza, my co-worker drank his Dr. Pepper. Since we weren't given any utensils or salad dressing we put the salad in the refrigerator until today and I brought paper plates, plastic forks and salad dressing from home. The salad was good and filling. About the only thing I would say is it would be nice if this restaurant would include utensils, plates, napkins, etc., and double check to make sure they put the salad dressing in the box with the salad. But again the salad was still good the next day and the pizza was above average.

The team there were personable, attentive and genuinely cared about giving their guests a great experience. We enjoyed the Caesar salad and calamari for apps, the teres major steak and fried chicken for dinner and then the lemon cheesecakes and peanut butter chocolate cheesecake for dessert. Our child is still just a baby but this restaurant is kid friendly but is still a good venue for couples looking for a date night. The only complaint I would have would be the people smoking outside of The Big Easy next door.

Talk about happy tastebuds. Our main dish was a beautiful salmon fillet prepared perfectly with just a hint of lemon rubbed on, and presented on a bed of shelled brussel sprouts lightly roasted. The coup de gras was the dessert: a slice of peanut butter and a flourless chocolate cake. Luis recommended a sangiovese for my wife and she enjoyed it immensely. This restaurant I would proudly recommend to all my friends. I would have rated it higher than a five if I could have.
