My boyfriend ordered biscuits and gravy with a side of bacon, and I ordered the crab cake bene. Both plates were huge! The biscuits were big and fluffy, and the side of bacon was generous, thick and crispy. The poached eggs on my bene were cooked perfectly and I liked the crab cakes, but they weren't the best I've had (I felt like there could've been a little more crab). This is the ultimate breakfast/brunch spot. After eating here the first morning, we already knew we were coming back the next day. I'm actually glad it's not closer to home, because I'd be here all the time. The portions are generous, the service is friendly, and the whole place has a great 1950s diner vibe with old photos, memorabilia, and music from that era. I had the eggs benedict both mornings, once with the house potatoes and once with the hash browns. Both potato sides were excellent. The house potatoes had crispy bits, creamy centers, and a dollop of sour cream, while the hash browns were crisp outside and soft inside. I swear I cannot make potatoes like that at home. The eggs benedict were also outstanding. Instead of a thin slice of ham or Canadian bacon, they used a real ham steak. I love eggs benedict, and these were some of the best I've had. My partner had the chicken fried chicken one morning and chicken and waffles the next, and loved both. He also shared a biscuit with me, which was very good. We were looking for a good Sunday brunch spot and Sax's kept coming up. Located near downtown Petaluma, it's located in a small pink painted diner with multiple rooms. We were seated quickly around 11:30am on Sunday in their back room, which included kitschy decor including a standing Elvis. We ordered a Bloody Mary (spicy and topped with celery and bacon) and a mimosa, $9 and 10. Also had a cup of coffee which was smooth and strong ($3.50/each). I had the California Benedict ($18) which had perfect eggs, avocado and bacon on top of a sourdough English muffin. One side had nicely crispy bacon while the other was a little fatty. It was enough to fill me without the side of potatoes. Husband had country fried steak ($20) which he gobbled down with country gravy, two eggs on the side with country potatoes and sour cream. We also saw other diners getting blueberry pancakes (huge!), chicken and waffles, and the burger, which all looked tasty. We also got two cinnamon buns to go and can't wait to eat them. We ordered the florentine eggs Benedict and the Little P which included eggs, bacon, and sourdough French toast. My eggs Benedict was perfectly cooked! My family loves Sax's. The theming, staff and ambiance really makes this a special experience. The family that runs this restaurant is great. They love the community and it shows. The retro 1950's, pink biker theming is so fun. I've tried many things on the menu here. As I get older, I find that I can't really handle eating one of their delicious cinnamon rolls without feeling ill. This makes me very sad, but that's life. I find lots of other wonderful things I can eat! Today, I ordered their Surf n Turf breakfast and it was sooooo good! The ribeye with the garlic shrimp is so delicious and well seasoned! Plus, for $30 I think it's a pretty good deal for the quality and quantity you get. Phenomenal! My wife and I just finished shopping at the Petaluma Factory Outlet and found Sax's Joint with the help of Yelp. We ordered a few dishes to share. The Grilled Cheese Sandwich with fries was exceptional. It's a triple decker sandwich grilled perfectly and it had a fantastic cheese pull! I finally had a delicious brunch at Sax's Joint after wanting to try them for years! I'm so glad the stars aligned and I got the chance to stop by. The overall vibe is very cutesy and unique- it's themed like a classic American 1950s diner, and pretty much everything is pink. The staff was super friendly and welcoming, and their patio is dog-friendly. Some places I've visited that claim to have dog-friendly patios make us feel like we're an inconvenience they're forced to accommodate to get business, but that was absolutely not the case here. The staff was so sweet to my dog, which I really appreciated. They don't have wifi, and there's a sign indoors that says, "There is no wifi here. Pretend it's the 1950s and talk to the person next to you." We spent our entire brunch experience here talking to multiple other friendly patrons who gave us some recommendations for experiences in Petaluma. I can't remember the last time I ate a meal and spent the whole time talking to other folks with no one looking down at their phones. Refreshing! I had the French Toast, which didn't disappoint - it was huge, and I had to take more than half of it to go, which made for a delicious second round at home. I understand why there is a line out the door of this place every weekend. The food is fabulous, portions are HUGE, everyone is treated like a regular, and the prices are reasonable. The biscuits are big as your head, I doubt you could finish one along with your meal. Finally when they called a party larger than us, my wife asked how much longer our wait would be. The host apologized and says "oh they already told me they sat you, please follow me." Three large biscuits were smothered in gravy. The gravy was homemade and perfectly seasoned. The biscuits did not feel homemade and just had a bready, mushy texture. There was not enough gravy to properly eat all three biscuits, not that anyone would need to eat all three. Eggs Benedict with home made Dungeness crab cakes won. They came with home fries with sour cream and green onions garnish. Some of best home fries I've ever had. I like the pieces with brown edges. The crab cakes were the size of a burger. And very tasty with the perfectly cooked poached eggs. I had a fresh orange juice mimosa which came in a frosty fruit jar with a sugar rim. It is a bit loud so you might find yourself saying "WHAT?" to the others at your table but this is part of the homey charm. Outside seating is available for a bit of a quieter experience. The food is very good though a bit heavy on the potatoes but that's standard for a place like this. The amount of food you get though is more than enough and very filling. Very tasty with lots of options. Coffee is basically bottomless so that's appreciated. The wait staff is very friendly and efficient. No problems with the service. I honestly did not want to write this review, but after reflecting on the situation with family members, I feel it needs to be addressed. The way the owners handled the situation and immediately assumed everything was our fault was extremely unprofessional. There were 11 adults and one baby in our group. After being seated, our server took drink orders. When the drinks arrived, my daughter's tea was missing. When she politely asked about it, the server said it would be out shortly. The server returned again with more drinks but still no tea, saying the water was "still boiling." A third time she came back without it and began taking food orders. My daughter asked again and was told once more that the water was still boiling. At that point, my daughter-in-law briefly walked toward the kitchen area and asked another staff member for hot water. A male staff member quickly brought it to her, which showed there clearly wasn't a long wait for water to "boil" like we had been told. While orders were being taken, another server approached and our server said, right at our table, "Tell them to quit calling me and go help them in the kitchen, they keep yelling my name." This conversation between coworkers happened directly in front of us. When food came out, another server was essentially auctioning off plates asking who ordered what instead of knowing where dishes belonged, which made things confusing for a large table. Several orders then came out wrong. One person received potatoes instead of hash browns. My Eggs Benedict also came out incorrectly. I had asked if the ham was thick because I don't like thick ham and was told it would be thin. Instead, grilled onions were placed on top of the Eggs Benedict instead of on my hash browns, and the hash browns were not crispy as requested. Another person ordered a turkey burger with onion rings, but what arrived looked completely different. After we later checked the receipt, we realized it had been rung in as a veggie burger. On top of that, fries were brought instead of onion rings. By the time corrections were attempted, the meal had been sitting for a long time and she was over it. Another order was also wrong. Two people had ordered the chili cheese skillet, but the receipt showed one chili cheese skillet and one Mexican Benedict, explaining why the food came out incorrectly. The most frustrating part happened when we realized one of the owners was loudly talking about our table to the other owner at a nearby table, complaining about our group and the food being sent back. The table next to us could clearly hear it and were visibly uncomfortable. When I said, "Don't worry, we sent it back but we'll still pay for it," the owner came to our table and aggressively got in my daughter's face, pointing her fingers and yelling that we were a difficult table and had made her server cry. We later learned the server was her daughter. During this confrontation she called my daughter "weird" and a "bitch." The entire situation was shocking and embarrassing, especially with nearby guests witnessing it. Mistakes with food happen, but the hostile way this was handled is the real issue. I work in the service industry myself, which made this experience even more disappointing. The owner even offered to send us the video footage if we provided our phone number. I would welcome that being shared so people can see what actually happened. I am also writing this review in response to the owner's reply to the other persons review. In that response she claimed three people from our table went inside the restaurant to apologize. That is simply not true. Only one person briefly went inside, and that was my 76-year-old mother who is hard of hearing and did not understand what had happened at the time. When she later learned the owner had called her granddaughter "weird" and a "bitch," she was shocked and extremely upset and will be writing her own review. At the end of the day, calling someone names because they simply wanted the meal they ordered is completely unacceptable.
