In town visiting family and wanted a good breakfast to start our day, my wife had visited Hallie's years ago on another in town visit for family and remembered this place. Great old school diner set in a local fashion with plenty of local trivia and charm on the walls. It was busy when we arrived and didn't mind taking a spot at the counter (love the action at the counter). The staff was so welcoming and friendly with never ending smiles, made our morning. Great menu offering breakfast and lunch items as well as freshly squeezed orange and grapefruit juices. House made freshly squeezed Lemonade as well. Full variety of espresso, mochas and cappuccino drinks made right there behind the counter. Our food came out hot and plenty, great flavors and loved the twist on the eggs Benedict with the grilled tomatoes and fresh spinach. But the ham was the star of the Benedict, so moist and thick tasted like it was sliced right of a bone in ham. Incredibly delizioso! Food was pretty good but the service left a lot to be desired. It's clear this is a local spot and the regulars were greeted warmly and got a lot of attention. It was really busy when I first got here and died down by the time I was done, but I barely saw my server. I asked for sweetener with my coffee and after waiting 10 mins I ended up having to get up and ask for it at the counter. When I finished the cup, I didn't get an offer for a refresh/refill until after I almost finished my food--and it was from a gal who was bussing the table next to me after I got her attention. I don't like bad mouthing people, and I understand things can get hectic, but I felt ignored even once most of the tables had cleared out. read more

1 star for both service and food quality. What happend to this place? The bacon was dry and obviously cooked ahead of time so it was stale. The cornmeal pancakes were dry and small, they didn't come with syrup. When I asked my waitress for syrup she seemed bothered..which i dont know why since she didn't service my table after she dropped off the food. I don't know if she thought i wasn't going to leave a tip or what but her service was lame..the maya special with plantains was a load of black beans with two salsas that lacked salt..both meals were lame and although location is good..its not worth the price. We were here for a family birthday, with my hubby, my son, his wife, and one of my boos. So 5 of us ordered Swedish pancakes Corn cakes short stack Ham bacon cheese omelet $17.95 Side order of bacon 3 OJ's, 3.50 sm, $5.50 large. The food, which was ok. My family and I had a great brunch at Hallie's. We decided to get a table outside which is under a big white tent adjacent to the building. They have plenty of options on their menu. It was hard to decide what to order since everything sounded good but I ended up getting the corn meal pancakes with bacon, eggs, and a few pieces of fruit. I also got a chai latte with almond milk. I don't think I've had corn meal pancakes before. I loved the taste and texture of them and they were just the right size too. The bacon was crispy just how I like it cooked and the eggs tasted fresh. I didn't expect a huge cup of chai but I enjoyed every sip of it. The staff were friendly and helpful when we had questions about the menu. The inside of the restaurant is an old school diner. I am definitely coming back and sitting inside next time. My first impression upon walking in LITERALLY was "what a cute little neighborhood spot"! and a second after, I was greeted by someone who asked me how many people are in my party, had a table cleared within a few minutes, and we were sat down at a booth. The EGGS PETALUMA is a must order for someone who likes Bennies but wants something less rich with a different flavor profile. It is Poached eggs on toast with ham or spinach, topped with lemon herb sauce. I opted for it to be on an English Muffin with both Ham and Spinach and it was delightful in so many ways! The lemon herb sauce is bright and tangy and the chef compactly piled on the spinach and ham. It also comes with country potatoes with a dollop of sour cream. I splashed a bit of Tapatio on the potatoes to get a kick and it was perfect for me. I WAS FULL! The HOMEMADE WAFFLE is not big and fluffy. We visited Hallie's diner while staying in Petaluma. It is within walking distance of Hotel Petaluma where we were staying. We sat at the bar and service was very friendly. Ambience is that of a small town diner and I got the sense that there were a lot of regulars who dine at Hallie's. Serving sizes were large. I have been wanting to eat here for so long. I finally had the perfect day to go and Hallie's Diner didn't disappoint. I had the cornmeal pancakes and it wad delicious!!! It's my new fave. To accomoany my breakfast I had their Breve. Perfect combination. The service was great. I interacted with 2 staff members and both were friendly and helpful. We haven't been to the diner in a couple years, but it's still cute and they added a bigger outdoor seating area with a little gazebo in the parking lot. Since it was a little cold this early morning before the butter and eggs parade, we waited for a booth to sit inside. It took us about 10 minutes to be seated, and they added a special menu page with four new items! We ended up getting the crabcake eggs, Benedict and the corned beef hash. I was really surprised the crabcake Benedict had avocado on it and that's an interesting combo! I really liked the combination of that with the tomato and the poached egg was perfectly done and I'm always a sucker for hollandaise sauce! Lol the sautéed potatoes with onions were also delicious and grilled to a crispy perfection! Stopped by Hallie's for Breakfast on a Sunday morning while returning home from Sebastopol. Purely on a whim but I was extremely pleased. Looks to be a popular place with the locals and I believe that says a lot. Decor is very unassuming, but I mean that it in a good way. It was quaint and inviting. I was greeted immediately and seated shortly thereafter. Staff was wonderful, friendly, and very attentive. They consistently checked to see how everything was and if anything was needed. I ordered the Biscuits with Homemade Country Gravy. This came with eggs, country potatoes, and some fruit. It was plenty of food, but I also ordered a side of ham because I'm a fatty. Everything came out promptly and was delicious. I'm not from the area but if I'm passing through again, and I would definitely like to go back and try some other items. Bad experience today.. I just ordered a single pancake and it was the smallest dried out pancake I've ever eaten for $5.75.. My wife ordered some eggs, plantains and black beans... the plantains were not cooked. It used to be when you had a complaint about your food,they would try to correct it or they would take it off the bill. No one does that anymore. They just say sorry.. my personal preference ,but the coffee is barely hot and bitter.. I've been there quite a few times and it was OK but after this experience, I don't think I'm going to return. read more

I have been sitting on this one for a few days, trying to decide to review or not. First let me tell you what I thought at first getting there.. We arrived, were greeted and sat down really quickly. I walked by some tables and noticed how nice the fruit plate looked.. Our server was very prompt and offered us a menu and some nice hot coffee. She kept it full the whole visit..everyone was friendly and working hard.. My food, the eggs were medium..but brown on the outside, slimy on the inside.. I didn't like them at all, I just ate the yoke, my bacon both ends of each piece were kinda undercooked, so I broke them off, the potatoes were good.. So here is the thing I really, really hated about my visit to Hallies.. I need you to know at our house, there is no purses on the kitchen counters, no brushes, no perfumes or makeup or anything that is really not food friendly..it's a big pet peeve.. So while we are eating, we are at the counter, a new lady server, maybe the owner..Got the feeling it was an owner. She starts talking kinda loudly to the man next to us, saying she's going to do 10 minutes then come talk to him..in that ten minutes we heard about her hike she wanted to go on and even watched her pull her purse from under the counter and apply her face powder..I am allergic to perfumes and scents, makeup products..Really bad for her to do that not only at the counter where people eat but in front of her customers .. It was just rude. I really would never eat here again, and after looking through the reviews, I honestly don't think anyone's taking to heart the problems that have been complained about here on Yelp.. Hallie's Diner is a cute spot for breakfast in the Petaluma downtown area with an old-school diner feel. The inside feels very warm and cozy, with fresh cut flowers at every table and cushy booths. They also have a covered outside patio, which is nice before it gets too hot. We waited about 15 minutes for a table at 10:30am on a Sunday. Lots of the servers here are sweet old ladies that were giving grandma energy in the best way. Our drink orders got taken right after we got seated and I enjoyed the fresh squeezed OJ with nice pulpy bits. The spot was busy the whole time we were there, and I think the kitchen was running really slow. Our party of 3 waited over 45 minutes to get our entrees, which were all egg dishes. Definitely got a little hangry by the time the food came. I ordered 2 eggs over medium with cajun sausage which came with home fries topped with sour cream, sourdough toast, and a couple pieces of fruit. I liked the sausage, it was flavorful and fried with a nice char. The eggs were cooked well, though there was a fake butter flavor that I did not enjoy. I covered the eggs with cholula and that improved the flavor slightly. The home fries were not good in my opinion, they were bland and mushy discs of potatoes. Lots of street parking around. They won't seat you until your full party is there. There is indoor and outdoor seating available. The food seemed really fresh and made from scratch. I visited Petaluma and we were looking for a good American brunch spot. We got there and it was very crowded which is usually a good sign. We were seated pretty quickly as there was both inside and outside seating and the service was quick. We ordered a chai latte to share and it was very good. Then I ordered a sausage and cheese omelette and the person I was with ordered a hot link scramble special. The food was really delicious and flavorful! I usually go to my go to spot when I'm in town, but I wanted to try a different place. Just went here once. Everytime I passed by to go to Petaluma market it's usually crowded. So I wanted to give it a try. I liked their waffle, they are thin, and you don't see them being made like that anymore. I've honestly never been to a bad breakfast spot before. But the food here is absolutely terrible. 14 of us ate here and every single thing except for bacon and eggs were just not good. The pancakes were the worst I've ever had in my life and everyone else at the tables. It was like mush texture and tasted raw. And this was after we ordered 3 full stacks of 3 which is a whopping $12 each too. Like if you just got a box pancake mix from any store it would be so much better. The meatloaf was not edible. It was like breadcrumbs had a sale and meat is not available. The apple chicken sausage was so tasteless it was just like eating texture. The steak and eggs steak was tough and chewy. Even the whole wheat toast was terrible, I don't even know how you do that. But they did it. $230 for our food and mannnn. I wish we went to dennys. It would've been so much better. The service was very good though, that's the two stars. And the diner itself is cute. But food wise I've never been so disappointed in a typical breakfast spot. While the food at Hallie's is good (4/5) the service isn't great. The wait times can get really long so be prepared to wait. The inside of the restaurant is pretty small and crowded so not too many people can be seated at once. They also have limited outdoor dining. The waitress we had was not the nicest. She only checked in when taking our orders and bringing our food which is fine, but her attitude wasn't the nicest. The food took a while to get to us too which I understand the restaurant is busy, but we got simple egg dishes. I opted for the country skillet which came with sourdough toast. There was a good blend of veggies in the skillet and it came topped with cheese and sour cream and avocado which was perfectly ripe. I got the sourdough bread which was good. The portion was large and really filling. This could be two meals. My only complaint about the food was that it lacked a bit of seasoning. This is one of the better breakfast places in Petaluma but unfortunately the service and long wait times can make it difficult to enjoy, hence the reason why I give it a 3/5 read more

They have great setup under a canopy with outdoor heaters so it was best of both worlds. Loved the Mayan Tipico - the plantains were delicious! I do think they overdid the eggs a bit (burnt). We just love Hallies. Definitely one of our favorite Petaluma breakfast spots. Jen and her lovely crew do an outstanding job of serving up incredible breakfasts (and lunches)! We love that you can get fresh fruit as an option to potatoes and toast, and the fruit is always gorgeous and such a nice selection. Their potatoes topped with sour cream are delightful, and every breakfast entrée we order is always cooked to perfection and delicious. The ambience is Hometown diner style with a nice little counter and a cute patio with some outside seating. We probably eat here at least once a week and we will continue to come back over and over. I went there and the staff is pro MAGA. I over heard them talking to another patron. Made it very uncomfortable and heard them say they need ICE in Petaluma.
