Penngrove Pub is exactly the kind of place I hope to find when someone says, "Wanna go where the locals go?" My friend hit me with that line and I was immediately in. Uhhh yes... absolutely. I'm always down for a community spot that feels like home, and after the other two places we had already stopped at, I was thinking, "Alright... this one better be special." Spoiler alert: it was. We walked in, ordered our drinks, and with the weather being way too good to waste indoors, we posted up outside on the patio like two people who clearly had nowhere better to be. And that's when this place really started to show its character. Let me tell you... this place was exactly what I hoped it would be. Locals rolling in, saying hi to each other, swapping stories, laughing like they've all known each other since cassette tapes and landlines were still a thing. Hearing people talk about folks who've been coming here for 20+ years honestly felt like I had accidentally wandered into a 90's sitcom--but in the best possible way. Just good people, good laughs, and that rare kind of atmosphere you can't manufacture. It had that "everybody knows somebody" energy... and somehow even as a first-timer, it still felt welcoming instead of cliquey. Now let's talk drinks. We ordered tequila doubles and I'm already mentally preparing for younger-me behavior... and my friend hits me with, "We don't shoot tequila, we sip on it." Excuse me? Sip it? I looked at her like she had just introduced tequila to me for the first time in my life. I was like, "Whaaaaat?" because somebody really should've told younger me that years ago. Would've saved me a few poor life decisions and at least two questionable mornings. But honestly? She was right. Sipping tequila on that patio, soaking up the weather, listening to the local stories and laughter around us... it just fit. That's the kind of moment this place gives you. It slows you down in the best way. The vibe here is relaxed, unpretentious, and full of personality. No fake polish, no trying too hard--just a true local gem doing exactly what it's supposed to do. In all, Penngrove Pub isn't just a place to grab a drink. It's a front-row seat to community. It's storytelling with tequila. It's the kind of spot that reminds you local places still matter. This is a cute-dive-y bar with a nice outdoor venue. Even though it was a bit chilly, they had plenty of heaters if you got cold. My friend and I came to see the Guns & Roses tribute band. They were a lot of fun. The employees were very helpful and friendly. I'll definitely come back. Oh, also, they do take cards. read more

We had the best time at the Penngrove Pub, what a great venue to catch live music. We bought tickets online to see the band Gas Money, and they were fantastic! A young band that has crazy vocals and talent, band members, Cheyenne Vincent, Gavin Lee on guitar, Alexander on Bass and Nick on drums. We were blown away. The venue has great outdoor acoustics, a professional stage, and lots of room to dance. The beer was cold, and they had a great taco stand next door. We loved it. We came in in a whim. The band name was Latin so it intrigued us. Wow, Latin rock! Nice! We were starved and at 9:25pm they were still serving food. Only $10 for smash Berger that included the works ( no bacon available though, cheese yes!), and the shrimp burrito (rather prawn!) was only $13 and amazing! Loaded with prawns and delicious accompanying black bean, rice, cabbage slaw, onion, cilantro, sour cream, cheese, peppers, wow(!!). You can tell I'm the one who had the burrito. Omg and i as m picky. It had this absolutely amazing and delicious Serrano pepper creamy sauce, perfectly spiced and so addictive i be asked for more!. It was a a large size and literally tons of prawn! At least 13 or more big ones in the burrito. And i repeat only $13! Then i got this delicious drink from the bar called Sex in the city, hard to resist. I wanted something tropical and i guess this was it and boy was that good! At least 8 oz a for just $9. Deal! Bar tender (female with curly hair) paid no attention to me when I walked up to bar. On her phone. So my husband went up there to close out and sat for maybe 5 minutes. She's head down on the phone talking to obviously the regulars that obviously are preferred. Just don't think that's good service! Like hello. Penngrove is spread out, but their "downtown" consists of a short two Lane Road which is a popular thorough way for those that wanna avoid the busy 101 freeway. And boy do they pack a bunch of businesses in such a small area, The Penngrove Pub is one of them. That night we came to listen to a Motown, R& B band called "Pure Ecstacy" they got down with a tight singing trio, drummer, a keyboard player that was the bass as well as an outstanding guitarist. They were so good too, playing all the classics and taking request. There were the usual bar patrons and lots of locals that wanted to dance the night away. It was pure joy, the pub is a good size, a large bar area with large Tv's, a Taqueria that supplies the pub patrons food. There is a window connecting the two businesses, a pool table area were the band set up and a small dance floor. I didn't know what to expect but it was good times in Penngrove we even mingled with some late night ranchers that didn't know what they got themselves into. read more

Super cute little spot, it was early and construction on the outside deck was going on. Clean nice natural light not to loud the tap lines were clean and glasses as well. Wish they had more of a beer selection on draft, but the service was very good and it was a perfect stop on my morning ride. read more

I had a great time meeting up with my usual every Monday friend date at the Penngrove Pub! I don't think I have set foot in the establishment in many years! I loved our experience!! Irene (almost 100% that's right) is amazing!! So attentive and friendly!! We ordered tacos and food from their adjoining restaurant Tip Top Taco!! Yum! I mean really good! And so reasonable!! Pretty much your standard, neighborhood bar in a small town. I got a sausage at Yanni's (next door) but there is not place to sit at Yanni's so they encouraged me to enjoy my sausage at the Penngrove pub. It is kind of darkly light and smells a bit musty. (I do not have a great sense of smell, so if I could smell the mustiness, it must have been there.) The bar tender was nice enough and they have a reasonable selection of draft beers (three or four craft beers and a few macros) and a bigger selection of bottles, including some of the mass produced ciders and all the megabrews. They also have a well stocked selection of liquor. The place is nice enough if you are in town and want a drink but I am kind of thinking it is a locals / dive hang out. read more

Great easy going bar. Feels clean, bartender was attentive and the best part, you can order food from Yanni's next door and sit and drink in the pub. I love how they work together to accommodate the customer. This place is cash only so be prepared. I ordered a bottle of Negra Modelo but my mother in law had a martini. She said that the bartender made it exactly as she requested - straight up with just a whisper of vermouth and rocks on the side. One day, I plan on using the Penngrove Pub to film the climatic ending to the script I wrote, BARJACKERS: a modern day Western, so to speak, about the last years before the internet, cell phones, social media, selfie-taking narcissists, the PC police, outrage addiction, and overly sensitive crybabies that blame anyone other than themselves. In other words, the early 90's. My only concern? In ten years time of the moment after this post, progress (the very same progress the protagonists of BARJACKERS want no part of) will have swallowed up Penngrove's Main Street where this last-of-it's-kind pub resides. Recently found the food at Yanni's and came to know that the wonderful owners of Yanni's will bring the food next door to this pub for you. You can enjoy a pint and eat awesome food as Yanni's is small and the pub has plenty of seating. My dad and I got a beer and a rum n' coke. Came out to $8, can you really beat that? The decor is a little bar divey but quaint, roomy, and feels a bit like an old home. It is laced in wood and the floor slopes to the back and an even and low grade. I had my back toward the west-ish side and realized I had to rotate, I felt like I was going to fall backward due to the slope! It was absolutely full of people at the bar - on a Thursday afternoon at lunch time and everyone was shootin' the ish. It was awesome. Well, woulda been more awesome if we could have fit at the bar too, but a private round table was nice and welcoming too. Friendly staff and people. They didn't take a credit card or money when we ordered our drinks. Just let 'em know right off the bat we were waiting for our food from Yanni's and the bartender was happy to give us drinks and let us settle in. The bartender seemed a little out of sorts when we went to pay asking us again what we had ordered. Ah, love the small town feel and trust of a pub like this. For the friendly service, great drink prices, and small town feel this place is a must visit. The only reason it doesn't get my perfect 5 star rating? Well, I like to have a connoisseur whiskey and scotch collection. Don't have it here, or anything close to it. But that's how divey bars roll, so it's still a good place in my book. One of my favorite places in the entire County. Having moved back and forth from the City a few times in the past 10 years, I could always count on the people and staff at the Pub to remember me and offer me conversation, a game of pool, or a chance to lose a buck or two playing dice. Cheap drinks, a couple of better whiskey's on the shelf, free food multiple times per week, and surprisingly a good little local music scene with the band "Mixed Nuts" having provided one of the better Friday nights I've had in a while (take that as a compliment to them or a slight on my social life, either way!). I would like to address a previous yelp from Kathy J; I am almost convinced you were at another establishment. The Pub really doesn't promote late night business and closes by 10 pm during the week. If you're looking for a place off the beaten trail where no one will recognize you, this is the place. It's usually stocked with regulars that you'll never see outside the bar, unless they need a smoke. That's because they are only here, at work (the ones who work), in bed, or somewhere in between. There's beer on tap, popcorn, a pool table, a few televisions going, something playing on the stereo and a conversation rolling up and down the bar. The bartenders are friendly enough and the owner usually has a smile for you - especially if you look into the security cameras. Don't worry - he's likely more worried about employee theft than what you might be doing or who you might be with. The Penngrove Pub has absolutely nothing to offer. But hey - sometimes nothing is just what we're looking for, and for that the pub rates at least 1 star. read more

I love this bar and all the local/regulars that hang out here. On the weekends they have been getting some great bands. Fun vibes and laughter. You can also order food during the day from next door and they will deliver it to the bar while you enjoy a cocktail and watch the game! The people are so friendly and welcoming here and the bartenders are so knowledgeable about drinks that they can always find the perfect one to serve you if you're not sure what you're in the mood for. There's always fresh hot popcorn to snack on the the best sandwich shop next store that will serve you right there in the bar. Three TV's will keep you tuned into the games and sports news of the day, and if you're up for a game of pool there's a table at the back of the bar. When visiting my uncle, when I'm down from Humboldt, on the 4th of July each year---I always spend a night partying here at the Pub...Funky locals, burnouts and many times a mixture of all ages...Bartenders can be anywhere from very sweet to indifferent. ...But the bartenders love to be as creative & enthusiastically ready for any new drinks you can come up with, (and with what they have to work with) Good sandwiches from the tiny Deli next door, (Vinny's)...Not much of a "Top Shelf" here - But great blues music is always playing, and there's always a few seasonal games going on up on the TV screens in the back round, but few seem to care, It's up to you to help make the party. However, if you just enjoy pounding them down, laughing, great blues on the speakers and talking to anyone, since everyone is ready to talk and loud...popcorn, pool & darts...If that's the mood your in...your in for a good time at this funky little bar. It's works!
