You need to try this place. Especially the crusted salmon!! It was so amazing. Their owner is amazing and we had the loveliest time

Service was great from start to finish - everyone we interacted with was warm and efficient. The small dining room doesn't afford much space between tables but even so we were comfortable and able to have a conversation without having to shout. The menu is on the smaller side - a few options each of appetizers, salads, pastas and entrees - and a couple of specials. We went with the bruschetta trio (the winner of the entire meal) and chose the traditional, the prosciutto and the salmon of which the traditional was the favorite. The entrees were ok. I went with the chicken piccata which was not prepared in the traditional manner of pan-frying the chicken; I'm guessing by its white anemic color it was maybe poached separately first before being added to the piccata sauce. The sauce was missing the acidity of white wine and lemon (although I'm sure they were in there) and even the capers couldn't help punch up the flavor. Between the underwhelming seasoning/flavor and the chicken missing that crispy exterior the dish just didn't deliver. My partner's salmon pasta Alfredo was also just ok, again it could have used more seasoning and the sauce was so watery it was impossible to get it to coat the fish and the pasta. I can see why a lot people enjoy Sugo - the food is good enough relative to the very reasonable menu prices and the staff is great; just know that at least some of the dishes deviate from the traditional preparations. Next time I'd stick with the bruschetta and add a salad to round out the meal. read more

Ponied up to the bar after a great day hanging with friend in downtown Petaluma. Ordered a nice glass of Italian wine from the Abruzzo region, ordered some meatballs, carpaccio, and toasted bread with an olive/vinegar to sop it all up. The sauce for the meatballs was fresh & not too acidic & the meatballs are made with various meats, the balsamic vinegar/olive oil was good but I think a stronger olive oil would be a better match. The carpaccio was good, it is my favorite to order, but I prefer a stronger lemon & some mustard with mine and again a stronger olive oil flavor. My favorite item was the panna cotta. The presentation is beautiful & the slight taste of lavender(not medicinal at all) with the honey and berry syrup and scattered fruit with pistachio on top was superb. The Panna Cotta had a nice consistency not too fluffy or light. Service was great, busy little place. They're doing something right. read more

my mom and I enjoyed a lunch in this small little restaurant in Petaluma. We had the soup of the day which was a bean soup and their salad of the day that we shared. The bean soup was good, but not exceptional. The salad was very good. It had almonds pomegranates goat cheese, along with some greens. There were other ingredients that I'm not sure what they were, but the salad was delicious and there was ample. We just had takeout from Sugos in Petaluma. It has yummy Italian food but their steak dinners are unbelievably delicious as well. The filet mignon was outstanding as was the potatoes and green beans. Warm, friendly service that is just the right amount of attention. The setting was perfect for dinner with friends or a romantic date. The bustle and noise is enough that your conversations would not be easily overheard, and yet table talk carries over perfectly. Our dinner started with an amazing bruschetta trip... Sorry, no pictures as we dived in like hungry vultures to fresh meat. We had the warm artichoke, prosciutto, and smoked salmon. Each was perfectly balanced with taste and nuance. The appetizer set the stage perfectly for the main course. I had the chicken fettuccine Alfredo with pine nuts and mushrooms. The Alfredo sauce was as perfect as it comes. Texture was text-book, creamy and almost "dry". I tasted a little lemon zest that elevated the sauce with a little brightness. The pasta was a hair less al dente than I prefer, but I am sure that others might have thought it perfect. My wife had the burger which was served on a perfect ciabatta square roll. Crunchily crusty with soft, airy crumb, it was the perfect bed for a large, thick, flavorful patty that was cooked perfectly medium-rare as requested. Served with a simple lettuce salad and roasted potato. The tomato-based sauce on the shrimp and seafood fettuccine was also perfectly balanced. The taste of tomato enhanced by the possible addition of sun-dried tomato for huge flavor without being too sour or tart. Huge portions! Nice experience and ambiance overall, but there were a couple of important things that were missing. 1. The menu was somewhat limited. Too many risotto dishes including on the specials, and not as much variety on other dishes. No lasagna, no bolognese, no carbonara, no cacio e pepe, which are all among classic dishes you'd expect from an Italian place. What they did offer was tasty. We also loved the lavender panna cotta. 2. The main issue was with our server, who seemed nice enough but fell short twice. She stopped by to take our orders, wrote down mine, answered the questions of the next person, then somehow she decided for herself that we needed more time to decide, so she left in the middle of it. Several minutes later she came back to collect the glasses, we were still ready, yet she left again. She had never asked us if we needed more time. Finally, we had asked if they would substitute a meat item on the salad with a vegetarian ingredient that was on the menu. She said yes. When the salad arrived a while later, it was missing either of the items. She walked away. When I asked, she said that she just told the kitchen to remove the meat. We never understood why she wouldn't simply tell us if the substitute wasn't an option. read more

I have found my favorite and number 1 Chicken Marsala at Sugo!! It has plenty of mushrooms and the flavor is mouth watering. Chicken Marsala is the one staple I always order in an Italian restaurant. The mashed potatoes and vegetables came with it really complimented the whole dish. The burrata and meatball were the 2 appetizers that we got and we could almost lick the plate! Pleasant surprise to find out our bruschetta trio was only $7 during happy hour! So fun to try different toppings! but the olive bruschetta had waaay too much olive tapenade which overpowered the goat cheese with its saltiness. We loooved the classic bruschetta the most so I guess you can't go wrong with the basics! If you had to order one entree, get the gnocchi with gorgonzola cream sauce!!! SO delicious omg. I've even been to Italy and this gnocchi dish is top tier. Such a light and creamy sauce. Add a few sprinkles of black pepper on top which I thought brings out more rich flavors of the sauce!! Sadly, the angel hair rustico was not great. Found the sauce to be bland and the meatballs to be plain. Not really worth getting. Not bad. The dishes were well put together and the ingredients were pretty good. The prep needs a little work though. Flavors could definitely be bigger. Prawns were a little disappointing in my pasta dish. They were grilled which added the wrong flavor to the dish. If prawns are going in pasta they should be butterflied and sautéed, maybe with some garlic and a little white wine. Focaccia was another disappointment. Just not the real thing. Ok I just ordered door dash from here again last night for myself & it was so so good AGAIN! I don't know how the pasta stays perfectly cooked all the way to Cotati but it does! My wife and I had a nice, quiet dinner there one recent late Fall Sunday evening. The dining room wasn't overly crowded and the service was very attentive and friendly perhaps because of that. I actually loved my tender butternut squash ravioli with pesto sauce. It was a special with a sauce twist at my request and the pesto addition was divine. My wife had the salmon fettucini which she also very much enjoyed. Our meatball appetizer was warm and accompanied by a zesty marinara. So very tasty as well. You might want to ask for some bread with that, and I suspect there maybe a charge for that or I assume it would have been delivered side by side. I have to give this review 4 stars because on our prior visit the food took a long time to arrive to our table. But that was on a much busier Saturday night. First time visit to this little charming restaurant! We came on a Friday and it was very hard to park - so just know that. Small parking lot in front, and street parking. The restaurant is in a small brick building with other restaurants. Super cute. Seating out front with umbrellas and heaters. The restaurant is small and very cozy and romantic. The kitchen is open so you can see the flames and the chefs. There is a small bar. Great wine list! The hostess was very sweet to us and welcoming. Our waitress was efficient. The food was just not as amazing as the service and ambiance. Neither of us loved our food. It was good, but not great. The risotto was like soup - very watery and that texture is unenjoyable... There was TONS of spinach in it which just added to the soggy mess. Very little flavor...I had to salt it a lot. The fettucine alfredo had rotisserie chicken on it which was good, but just made the entire dish taste like rotisserie chicken. Again, also, the sauce was very watery and thin.... The garlic bread was delicious. The value/pricing was on point I believe. We might come back - but try different food items. read more

Came for dinner with a group of 5 on a weekend night. We got the bruschetta, garlic bread, seafood risotto, and salmon fettucine alfredo. Everything was really tasty! Everyone especially liked the seafood risotto as it came with generous portions of seafood. Service was super friendly and the environment was cozy and intimate. Prices were also pretty reasonable, came out to around $30-35 a person after tax and tip. Would definitely recommend checking out if you're looking for Italian food in the area! read more

Came here for dinner on a rainy Saturday evening. We were told it would be about a 20 minute wait to eat inside, but our table ended up ready in about 5! We were tempted by the pick your own bruschetta board but ended up going with the cheesy garlic bread when we saw how large the bruschetta was. The cheesy garlic bread was a good choice - super garlicky and served piping hot. For entrees I ordered the Fettuccini, Prawns & Scallops and my mom the salmon. Both portions were massive and once again served piping hot. You could see the steam coming off the pasta the whole time it made its way from the kitchen to our table. Both dishes were good, I liked the prawns better than the scallops on my dish, but both were plentiful. The real star of the show was the chocolate mousse. I was pretty stuffed after making it half way through my pasta and said I'd only have a couple bites of the mousse. After a bite or two that quickly changed and I ended up eating about half of it. While not a dessert I'd typically choose to order, I would 100% order this again. It was the best chocolate mousse I've ever had. I was also beyond impressed with the service from start to finish. The hostess was extremely nice and personable as was our server Tracy. For food alone I probably would've given 4 stars, but the service was so great that it took the experience up a notch. read more

Without a doubt, one of the best traditional places for fine food and dining. It has been the place to go for friendly service. It has been in Petaluma for over 18 years which says a lot! It is low key and offers a quiest place to enjoy a fine meal. Outdoor dining is also available. read more

Ambiance was nice, very close to the other tables so not much privacy however, there were two amazing women who sat us and got us started while we were waiting on our assigned server and they really made the dinner with my kiddos great. Genuine smiles and energy, both were lovely people and I'm kicking myself for not getting their names. I wish one could have been our server. We came on a Tuesday when there is a special on their focaccia breads which was an awesome surprise. We ordered three different flavors to try. For dinner I ended up with the gnocchi with Gorgonzola cream sauce which was pretty good, mildly under seasoned but a little salt saved the meal. My sons ordered the salmon fettuccine and the linguine. Both of their pastas were OK. The salmon fettuccine wasn't loved by my son, but I thought the flavor was good. My other son got the linguine which was very aldente and added rotisserie chicken. Chicken needed a little salt and it did the trick. Our server was a male who was pleasant enough... he just seemed to get on better with his other tables. Definitely did not add to our experience unfortunately. read more

Was craving pasta last weekend and had about an extra hour, so visited Sugo's At the tail end of their lunchtime window. Service was great and the food was excellent this, despite me being a straggler. The seafood portions on the Mixed Seafood Risotto are generous for a $22 plate. There were at least five or six scallops, and the same amount of large shrimp and mussels. The creamy saffron-infused sauce was rich and delicious. Ambience is contemporary, with shades of browns, off-setting brushed black, and complementing the lighting on the chefs in the background. Open style booths and adequate seating might keep you there for a while (unless you're on the clock!) Service is friendly and efficient. Casual outdoor seating of approximately six tables is great when the weather is nice! Oddity (hopefully!) It was a little weird to have one of the staff (possibly an owner) sitting at the far table observing the room with a degree of seriousness. Not sure what that was about, but I was surprised that she popped up from her table to help me transact my tab. It felt like she was there scanning for dine and dashers! Behind her was a little hallway where we ended up doing our transaction. It was awkward. If you find yourself standing in that hallway for more than 3 seconds, you will absolutely be in the way, lol. They've added to their wine selection and are putting a European-style emphasis on wine by glass or bottle. We've been here before a few times--a great place for pasta with delicious sauces! read more

This is a nice little Italian joint location off the downtown strip. They are known for their variety of assortments of bruschetta and boy are they yummy! You can't go wrong with any of the choices. They also have specials throughout the week. I've ordered the chicken Parmesan special with the kale Caesar salad 2/3 of my visits and it hasn't disappointed. Their wine selection is great too and pairs well with the menu options. They also have outdoor seating with heaters, so I'm always able to bring my pup along with me and eat comfortably. I can now finally say something good happened here, because I came across this delightful Italian restaurant. For our visit, we can ordered the bruschetta trio. From the list of available options, I chose the following 3 for $12.75: Smoked salmon with pesto, capers, and red onions Classic tomato with mozzarella and basil Prosciutto with fig jam and brie Of the 3, I liked the prosciutto one the most. The prosciutto was very well paired with the fig jam and brie.The classic tomato with mozzarella had dried shredded mozzarella and was topped with a lot of chopped garlic. I was hoping for fresh mozzarella and no garlic. The smoked salmon was a bit salty, and even saltier with the capers. The fettuccine with prawns and scallops were delicious. I'm typically not a huge fan of the tomato cream sauce, but it was nicely prepared here, not too creamy. Nice portion for only $21. My favorite item ordered was the daily special salad: arugula, peaches, whipped honey mascarpone, and grilled shrimp for $19.75. I loved every bite of this salad! Delicious citrus dressing! We were seated on the outdoor patio next to a large planter with jasmine that was so fragrant. Jasmine is my favorite scent, so I especially enjoyed this experience!
