Brick chicken: it tastes good! But I wish they can add Chicken Marsala on the menu. Kinda miss the taste of the mushrooms on the plate! Cod: it's a special that I hope it will stay on the menu. Made a reservation here while visiting Petaluma. We were promptly seated along the wall on a cozy corner spot of the restaurant and immediately served water. We really enjoyed our dinner here. Ambiance was lovely and quaint. Reminded me of a restaurant somewhere in Italy. Loved the focaccia diavola. It was delicious and a great start along with the roasted beet salad. I was recommended to this place by a friend. When I arrived, the outside was unassuming. I walked in, and was completely blown away! The restaurant is perfectly lit, vibrant, and was full of people. My extra dirty martini was PERFECT and the waiter didn't hesitate to give me extra olives, so 10/10 for me. The caprese was refreshing and light. Then I had the bolognese, and WOW, it was amazing!!! We went here on a Monday night which is usually a quiet night in the dining world, but it was busy here. We had a group of 6. My overall dining experience was 5 stars. We went here for my daughter's 21st birthday. The staff was friendly and patient and attentive. Arthur was our server and he was excellent. In general, the food hovered somewhere between 4 and 5 stars. My filet was cooked perfectly and the spinach was hot, but the potatoes were barely warm. My daughter's pesto dish fresh and unique. I also ordered the Batch One Old-Fashioned which was perfectly made. For dessert, we ordered the mini donuts. After we had finished our donuts, the bartender gave us each a short espresso martini on the house. Tasty and the perfect way to end the evening. I was very happy with my overall experience here. I decided to take a group out for my birthday. We took the SMART train from Windsor to Petaluma and walked to Risibisi. It was a very hot day and I had requested that the restaurant have water and ice available for our arrival. It was all there and much appreciated. I've been going to risibisi since before Covid. I wanted to visit them again since it's been awhile since i've been to Petaluma. I remember back then it was one of the owners who used to serve us. Honestly, I removed 1 star because of her. Her face just showed she didn't want to be there. She just had an attitude where you didn't even want to call her for anything. Honestly, this waitress didn't even smile not once while we were there. Idk if she was having a bad day but she needs to either stay home if that's the case. Bartender, he was amazing. Very friendly and I love the special drink he made. I have no idea what the name of the drink was but it was refreshing and he even made us a little taster first. What we ordered: Calamari: highly recommend 5 out of 5. Spaghetti carbonara (5 out of 5)- another amazing dish. This has been my go to everytime I come here. Spaghetti bolognese (5 out of 5)- another good dish. Pasta was made perfect and sauce tasted amazing as well. Dessert- creme brulee (5 out of 5)- great dessert as well. Loved the toastyness of the top. Im glad I chose to come back here. It's honestly been years since I've been back here. You can definitely see the restaurant aging with some normal wear and tear. Risibisi feels like a true piece of Italy brought right into downtown Petaluma. The rustic atmosphere, warm ambiance, and attention to detail make it feel authentic and welcoming from the moment you walk in. Even though the restaurant was clearly very busy, our waiter Noel provided quick, kind, and attentive service throughout our visit. The food was excellent as well. The apple prosciutto flatbread was a great start, and both the Wild Boar Gnocchi and Risibisi Risotto were incredible dishes. We had a reservation for 6:15pm and we were greeted upon entering then seated. We were seated against a brick wall which gives the restaurant a rustic vibe but I didn't like it because it makes your belongings and arm prone to being scratched. Refresco mocktail had a subtle guava flavor and stronger jalapeño flavor giving it a nice kick, but I wish I could taste more guava to balance it out. The soup of the day was minestrone and it came in a decent sized bowl and was packed with flavor. Papardelle was just ok and could've been better. The pasta was too al dente for my personal taste and to the point where it was borderline undercooked. The bolognese sauce was good though. Service was fine and our server checked in on us a couple times. With so many other restaurant options in the area, I'm not sure if I'd come back unless I tried something else besides pasta like focaccia or I ask for my pasta to be cooked a bit more. read more

Looking from sidewalk in, the bar area caught my eye I've been wanting to try this place out and finally got my opportunity the other night. The place isn't all that big though apparently there is seating in the back and outside seating along the river. My choice was the bar area, which I like because it had a modern style, mixed with the brick walls and quaint size. The menu was typical of most Italian places. I had plans on going with a pasta dish but somehow I ended up going with the filet. I think the lure that caught me was the price for a filet was so good compared to what I see in SF. I started with the Mushroom Bruschetta, 2 pcs, that was composed of Trumpet royale & oyster mushrooms, & house ricotta cheese. Normally I'm not a big fan of buschetta's but I thought it was better than alright. I'd say 3.5 stars. My main entree which was a Filet Mignon 8oz, Brandy peppercorn sauce, scalloped potatoes, & sautéed spinach. I ordered it medium rare and came as requested. The meal tasted way better than the presentation, and what I really like outside of the filet was the scalloped potatoes. They must have had them soaking in butter for a week, because boy did they taste so good! I thought for sure a 5 star dish. Service at the bar was great, ambience was also great. Unfortunately I was disappointed with my dining experience last night. The service was friendly and we were seated almost immediately on a Saturday evening with a packed house; however, that was the best part of the evening. My husband and I waited for a while for anyone to come to our table to bring water, then waited a while longer for a server to come to tell us the specials and ask if we wanted drinks. We ordered two glasses of wine, the minestrone soup, salmon carpaccio, and bolognese pappardelle. It took approximately 40 minutes to receive the soup and carpaccio, which were both delicious. We then waited another 40 minutes before receiving the pasta. We debated canceling the pasta and calling it a night because it was taking so long. I understand they were very busy but a restaurant of this caliber should be much more on top of getting dishes out in a reasonable amount of time. Although the food was delicious, because of the extremely long wait times I'll try another Italian restaurant next time I'm in town. read more

Risibisi on a good day can be very good. On a bad day, not so much. Atmosphere and service are generally good. The food can be very good. Today was not one of those days. It must have been a bad day. The filet mignon from today was much smaller than normal. But the most troubling thing was the quality. A whole half of the filet mignon was fat and connective tissue. I don't order filet mignon cause I want fat and garbage. I order it because I expect the highest quality and most tender steak. To spend $48 on a filet mignon and have half of the steak inedible is infuriating. Filet mignon should be extremely tender and have no globs of fat. I know Risibisi can do better cause we have had good food there before. But based on today's quality it is very mediocre. Consistently produce very good quality over the long run to earn the fourth star. read more

Classy little Italian place in downtown Petaluma which my brother and SIL enjoy as one of their favorites when they visit Petaluma. Dear Hubby and I were driving up from Southern California, heading to Santa Rosa. As we were looking forward to having dinner with our hosts for the weekend, and the drive was taking longer than expected, we asked if they'd want to meet in Petaluma to cut some of the time off our drive and we could all eat sooner. They suggested Risibisi, and the meet-up was on. The hardest part of the meal was finding parking in downtown Petaluma! Saturday night the place was jumping with lots of locals, tourists, cars, and limited parking spots. After a couple of passes, we found the after-hours lot at the BofA across Washington. Smart bank - you can park when they're not open, but you have to pay for the privilege. Once we got inside the charming historic brick building, we started relaxing and enjoying the atmosphere and good smells coming from the kitchen. We'd been snacking along our drive, so weren't starving. I ended up ordering the bruschetta appetizer, which was plenty of food for me. They did have some non-dairy options on the menu, which I appreciated. I would have loved one of their pasta dishes with pumpkin or butternut squash, but they did have butter or cream. My sister-in-law shared some of her "brick chicken" with me, which was absolutely delicious. Very well-seasoned and cooked to perfection with a crispy finish. When the restaurant is full, it's quite noisy inside. There aren't a lot of noise-softening elements, and every bit of conversation crashes together off the old brick walls. Once some of the tables emptied out it became easier to hear each other and converse normally. The server made a few mistakes on the order; likely because she couldn't hear us very well. Otherwise, service was good. I love the ambiance of the building. Reminded me of several places I've enjoyed dining up in the Gold Country in similar-era surroundings. I can see why my brother and SIL chose this charming spot. It is probably a bit more relaxing on other than a Saturday night at prime time. My wife and I had taken a break from including Risibisi into our regular restaurant rotation. Our meal last night was changed all that. The key was the front of house manager, Shayla. She was our waiter, probably because everyone else was eating outside. She guided us through the specials and the revised menu (for us anyway). I told her that the meds I'm taking don't allow alcohol so I would like a mock tail (my first!) that would go with the meal I ordered. She came up with a grapefruit-based drink in a martini glass with a bit of basil and what I think was an orange rind. Killer! I had two. Never thought a mock tail could be as delightful as the Italian wine I normally order, but waaaay above my iced tea no lemon default alternative! We started with the fried calamari which is designed "for the table". I sure would wish for a small appetizer version when it's just the two of us. I tried the Focaccia Diavola which was on the bread menu. It was the focaccia bread with Salami Calabrese, marinara, mozzarella, and pecorino Romano. It was less like bread, and a lot more like 4 tiny pizzas. SOO good but too filling. I brought it home and had it for an after dinner snack. Yumm. Then we had the Insalata Caprese which I thought had Burrata on it and it tasted strange. Shayla apologized because the cheese was a local goat cheese that she didn't know the chef had changed for this day, and I didn't see the olive oil or the balsamic vinegar on the plate. I'm used it it on the tomatoes. once I had the info, it was a new, tasty treat that disappeared immediately! I'm glad we split the butternut squash risotto, because the portion was huge and we still brought some home. The dessert that Shayla recommended was a strawberry chocolate cake which I was thinking that was going to be like a stone in stomach from past experiences at other italian restaurants but this one was light, had the fruit on the side, and had what looked like vanilla gelato but was probably a flavored whip cream which was SO NICE. We were both full, but this dessert disappeared in a heartbeat! I'm already thinking about excuses that will allow me to come back earlier in the rotation! read more

Even though this restaurant has been around for a long time, it's my new Petaluma favorite. This time of year, cold, noisy, hard-edged spaces -- even when the food is good -- are particularly unappealing. My husband and I went to Risibisi for the first time in awhile on a recent chilly night and the place felt so warm and cozy and welcoming -- the service was friendly and professional, the music relaxing and at a subdued pitch, and even though the room was close to full, there was a convivial murmur of conversation rather than the all out roar frequently encountered at some of the other places in town. I've been to this long time, Petaluma establishment, previously maybe twice, but it's been a while. A fortunate place to discover if dining out on a holiday, such as Christmas! One of the few places in town open, historically. And -- according to their website, "Risibisi is the only restaurant in Sonoma County to be awarded Michelin Bib Gourmand twelve years straight as well as Zagat's Best Restaurant in Petaluma." A high bar set to begin! The restaurant itself is deceptively small. There are not that many tables for dining; I would suggest making a reservation. It was early on a Saturday evening, but the restaurant was not full. I sat at the bar, which was maybe 8 or 10 seats. Risibisi boasts of a full bar, and I will definitely attest to the multitude of available liquors I saw on the shelves. The by the glass wine list is functional, but relatively small. For bubbles, they only serve a Prosecco. Very Italian restaurant, focused, perhaps, but I prefer a drier sparkling wine. I opted for a glass of Montefalco to start. A fairly light red, food friendly. The bartender was quite friendly and accommodating, even if she was constantly active as per expected crafting drinks for the restaurant. I decided to order a special menu item of the evening, the Caprese Salad, featuring in season heirloom tomatoes. I also ordered the Braised Pork and Ricotta Meatballs, followed by main course, Eggplant alla Parmigiana. The kitchen acted quickly, coursing the dishes out just right. My Caprese Salad indeed was fresh tasting. I did have to ask for some fresh ground pepper and salt. A little more balsamic glaze would have been nice, the Burrata was delicious. I have been on a kick with tasting meatballs at various establishments, since I have my absolute favorite at a restaurant in Forestville, that to date have not been matched or beaten. With the ricotta as part of the meatball ingredient, these were obviously softer and someone lighter. They were delicious and flavorful. Probably a different league and unfair to compare, but as meatballs, I will still say my favorite remains the tops! The Eggplant alla Parmigiana was well-crafted, presented beautifully, and with the addition of some fresh grated Parmesan was a delicious main course. I will say it was light on the mozzarella, which I expected to be a little bit more present in the layers at the very least. I am not in Italian food expert for sure, and perhaps this is an authentic representation of the dish. Regardless, you won't be disappointed with the choice. The other main course I was eyeing was pasta - Spaghetti alla Carbonara. Perhaps next visit! The check came at request, to go boxes as well, and my bill was processed expediently. I would definitely give high marks to good service, and food quality. You won't be disappointed coming here for a lovely dinner for a date night or a family get together. I guess I'm looking for some kind of "X Factor" that places kind of exude when you visit and dine. I didn't have that here. There was some kind of personality lacking that I was hoping to find. Perhaps it was the high marks self described as I mentioned above raided by Michelin and Zagat. Petaluma is kind of a hotbed for some great restaurants.
