What an awful experience. I like giving 5 star reviews because recognizing good people is underrated these days, but this one doesn't deserve one. I'm not a local. Shouldn't matter. Definitely not a welcoming place ONLY because of the staff. People there were very cool to me and my friend, but as a female, the female staff were the absolute rudest possible. What an awful attitude and experience. Wow. I even had the real "pleasure" to talk to a couple girls that were there but off that night (employed there, sadly). Their pretentious attitudes wouldn't make it anywhere with any class... but apparently they get away with discrimination just fine. Outright discrimination and bullying. I found my experience at this bar disappointing, particularly when it came to how the dress code was enforced. I was told that I could not sit at the bar because I was wearing a tank top, despite seeing other women inside wearing very similar attire without any issue. If there is a dress code, I have no problem following it--but it should be applied consistently to everyone, not selectively depending on who is wearing it. What made the experience even more uncomfortable was the lack of transparency around the policy. The bar is predominantly white, and as a patron of color, being singled out for something that was clearly being permitted on other patrons left me questioning whether the rules were being applied fairly. The interaction also felt homophobic and made me uncomfortable, particularly given the apparent difference in how other patrons were treated. I would encourage management to take a closer look at how dress-code policies are communicated and enforced. Guests should not have to wonder whether the rules apply equally to them or whether they are being judged based on their identity or presentation. Professionalism and consistency should not be too much to expect from a local establishment. read more

I had a really disappointing experience at this place . As soon as we walked in, it smelled strongly like sweat, and it was extremely humid inside, which made it very uncomfortable. There was only one bathroom, so the line was long, and people didn't respect personal space while waiting. To top it off, people kept staring at us, which made us feel unwelcome. I left the bar crying ....I was so bummed last night . I had been coming here often and was so heart broken last night by the way I was treated. Complete trash bar. Security is super rude and hostile. I brought my girlfriend here and she was groped by a few guys while dancing with me. On the way out she needed to use bathroom and the security stopped her and started talking to her. She turned around and was obviously flustered. She told me that he said she was too pretty for me and that he saw her dancing and she needed a big black c*ck. I for the most part have always had a good experience at this bar but on Saturday April 20th I was grabbed by my thong twice by the bouncer named Paul after he had given me his number to be able to sneak me in through the back for future times coming in. When me and 3 other bystanders address him he had gotten defensive towards the people calling him out on his actions. After telling some of the staff they didn't seem to take the matter seriously and he continued to work his shift which was okay until he decided to come up to me and try and speak with me on the matter and taking little to no responsibility. The only thing he had admitted to was touching me twice on my side. I have called 3 times since then and have yet to be able to speak to a manager or the owner and have not been given a email to message with. I'm hoping that this can help me get a response before I take legal action on the matter. I just really would like to be taken seriously. Regardless being touched by a staff member that is suppose to keep you " safe" was not okay at all. I hope that this isn't happening to anybody else. read more

TL;DR bartender maliciously took an important personal item from me before kicking me out Just had a really bad experience here tonight. I sat down and gave my ID to the bartender (a woman with glasses). After my ID was checked, the woman sitting next to me started telling a story of how she used to use a fake to get into bars. After she said her piece, I started telling a story of how I was served alcohol with a v obvious fake and pulled it out of my wallet to show her. The guy on the old fake ID looks nothing like me, and the material is blatantly not real. I was explaining this to the woman sitting next to me as she was looking at it, and after she handed it back the bartender asked me if she could see it. After taking the ID, with strange glee she told me that she had to keep it and that I had to leave. She even took my Diet Coke away from me as I was going for a sip! I left and came back a few minutes later to ask for the ID back and as the bouncer advanced on me she jeered in the background "good job, get him out of here" or something of the sort. I find the behavior of tricking me into giving her the ID, having been privy to the context of the conversation and knowing that I'm of age, before taking it and kicking me out to be as shitty as it is bizarre. I did not present the ID as real, so it's not like she had to do what she did. She went out of her way to ruin my night and take it from me. This is a purely malicious act. This sounds silly, but that shitty fake ID is legitimately an important personal item to me that brings up memories of high school I always carry it with me for the funny story, and now this place has taken and probably destroyed it. I don't have contact with my old friend who appeared on that ID anymore and it's sad to have lost it to an unnecessary and childish act of what I can only assume to be personal sadism. read more

I'd been hearing stories about this mystical Hide-Away for awhile. I couldn't wait to check it out. I kept on imagining all of the quality people watching that was going to unfold before me. Last night I finally came face to face with this talked-up supposedly "divey" lair. And while there were some characters hanging out at the bar - the Hide-Away did not bring the dive. At all. It was mellow. The pool tables were intact. The bar had big plasma TVs hanging above it. The jukebox played Tom Petty. Even the bathrooms were cleaner than probably 3/4th of the bar bathrooms that I've been in - in San Francisco. It was actually a slight let-down. A well kept bar with friendly bar staff. But nope - barely a sliver of "dive." So yeah the Hide-Away is a quality place to grab a drink and catch up with friends. But if you're looking for a more "interesting" night - be sure to catch this place at a later hour (apparently a much later hour), or on a busy weekend. At least that's what I'm hoping - because I'm looking forward to another visit here - and hopefully a slew of moments - similar to the ones, which Raleigh captured so artfully in his review of the Hide-Away. read more

I would like to reface this with my friends actions were not acceptable and I acknowledge that. We went to this establishment as a group on Saturday night. A friend of mine was rude to one of the bartenders and asked to leave. When I stepped in to inquire what happened I was dismissed and pushed aside. I continued to inquire and was met with nothing but distain. I tried to explain to the bartenders that we were a group and I needed to gather everyone so we could vacate the premises but I needed to make sure everyone was closed out. They continued to dismiss me as if I was just another drunken patron. After 25 min I was finally able to confirm that all the members of our party were closed out. It was a Saturday night and I get dealing with a specific level of clientele but when someone is trying to help you not only remove the problem but also make sure that the bill has been handled there is no reason to act in such a discourteous manner. read more

On August 28th, my friends and I visited the Hide -Away for drinks and dancing. Upon leaving, we stepped outside to call an Uber. As I needed to use the restroom, I tried to go back inside. The doorman stopped me and accused me of being drunk. When I told him I just needed to go back in to use the bathroom, he and another man grabbed me, dragged me out to the street, and pushed me to the ground. I sustained injuries to both knees, my right wrist, and right shoulder. My knee was bleeding badly at this point. The doorman then just laughed at me and didn't offer any assistance for my injuries. read more

During my last encounture i realized they initiated a 5 dollar cover charge, im sorry when did petaluma become so high coming that we need to start having a cover charge, upon entry it was filled with a much different crowed then the normal, no more young adults in the 30-20's more older age adults (no judgment). They have tv around but what used to blasted with music videos is now playing shows on tnt and such like law and order, sorry not the vibe im looking for on a friday night out. Please do not ever go here. I mean never risk your safety if you are a woman. You cannot trust ANYONE in this bar. This bar absolutely compromises every personal boundary and your own safety. I've been here twice with my friends and left uncomfortable the first time but willing to try it one more time. The second time, my friends and I were having drinks, something loud distracted us all leaving us to look away from our drinks for nearly seconds and noticed that our straws were no longer in our drinks and were on the floor. We assumed we probably just bumped into the drink at some point knocking the straws out and went on with our night. We ABSOLUTELY assumed WRONG. The night went down hill from there. Everyone that had drank the rest of the drink either felt sick or literally incoherent. Unfortunately one of my friends who drank the drink the most was left nearly incapable of moving and cannot remember that night after she drank that drink. After her being sick for hours, and scared we had to call EMTS fearing now that something most definitely got slipped into our drinks. She contacted the police and for some "unfortunate" but extremely convenient reason the video footage we asked for (because we now feel like we remember exactly who it was..) the footage was corrupted on the way to the police office. absolutely disgusting. I had two wonderful nights at this bar, however I went for a third night and was not happy with my serve. Mind you I had spent the last two days at this bar with zero issues. I'm from out of town (Washington state license), I was here for work. I do construction, so after a long day I wanted a drink. The lady took my license and spent a good 10 minutes looking at it and showing it to others. She came back and said that she wasn't going to take it but I needed to leave. She told me it wasn't right and others agreed. I've never once had an issue with my license. I tried going back in with some people I had met the night prior there. But she threatened to call the cops as I was a "minor". I wish she had called the cops so they could inform her she was wrong. Great place, but the gal with dread locks won't except outta state licenses, so make sure you bring your birth certificate.... The roaring donkey is right up the road and they know how to properly read a license, I'd recommend them instead! read more

I came here for a bachelorette party and it was perfect. Maybe that wasn't because of the actual bar, but more because of the other people there. They played awesome music and I can't stress that enough. The drinks were cold and the staff seemed friendly. My only reason for four stars is this place is filthy. Be aware: if you're from Hawaii, Johnny the bartender automatically assumes your ID is fake. Twice I've gone into this bar and he's denied me because of my ID being "sooo fake". I literally go to every other bar around there and all the other bouncers and bartenders are smart enough to know my ID is as real as it gets. He threatened to take my ID away from me and I told him if he did that I'd call the cops.. got him to give it back pretty quick when I said that. I'm sorry that I'm not white and not from California, so you can't tell it's real. Had one drink at McGuires then crossed the street to Roaring Donkey for another single beer, finally decided to head to Hideaway and was denied entry. Apparently the bouncer "got a call" from the other bars saying we've had to much to drink. Pulled my phone to record (not instigating anything) bouncer is offended and other drunk bystanders start getting in my face, bouncer did nothing, luckily there were police officers to de-escalate the situation. My girlfriends and I felt so uncomfortable we left and tried to explain to a bartender and he didn't give a shit .
