Does this place ever close? We saw that it was open around 7:30am!!! We came by at 11am for a Bloody Mary. It was delicious. I had vodka and the hubs had mezcal instead. They were loaded with crispy bacon, plump olives and a piece of celery. Yum! The bartender- John - was super friendly. He gave us all kinds of recommendations for nice golf courses as he saw we just came from playing golf. The bar itself has pool tables and dart boards as well as lots of TVs with various programming. Seems they have a great food menu, but we did not eat. They also have snacks like bags of interesting chips that you don't find in US routinely, if you just want something quick. Seems the bar has a lot of options and you could probably get whatever you want. Maybe not craft cocktails but typical ones. Parking is along the street. Bathrooms for customers. read more

My colleagues and I visited this bar over the weekend expecting a fun evening, especially with a live DJ. Unfortunately, what started as an exciting night quickly took a disappointing turn when one of my colleagues was denied entry because he was wearing a bandana as a stylish hair covering. The staff member at the door told him that his bandana indicated gang affiliation. As a Black man, he was singled out based on an assumption that was both offensive and troubling. There were no posted signs indicating a dress code prohibiting bandanas, hats, or similar headwear. From our perspective, it appeared that our group of Black and Brown professionals was unfairly judged based on stereotypes rather than any actual behavior. What made the experience even more concerning was discovering other reviews that raised similar concerns about the treatment of non-white patrons. Afterward, I also noticed photos on the establishment's social media pages showing white patrons wearing bandanas around their necks and on their heads, which only reinforced our perception that the policy was not being applied consistently. As someone visiting Sonoma for the first time, this experience was unsettling and deeply disappointing. Several members of our group had already entered the bar and ordered food, but after what happened, we chose to pay our tabs and leave. We do not support businesses where we feel discrimination, bias, or racial profiling may be at play. Fortunately, we found another local establishment that welcomed our group of more than 30 colleagues with warmth and professionalism, and we were happy to spend our money there instead. I sincerely hope management takes a closer look at its policies, staff training, and how those policies are enforced. Every guest deserves to be treated with respect and fairness. Based on this experience, I will not be returning, and I cannot recommend this establishment to others. read more

Absolutely brutal experience, waited to get in and when we got to the front they denied my friend because he was a person of color, citing that he had started an altercation at a bar across the square. My friend who is a devote Muslim and doesn't drink so was obviously confused because why/how would he would have started anything? Obviously confused and because we had just arrived, we went to said bar to figure out what had happened. Surprise, the bartenders and bouncer had no idea what they were talking about. True shame on them and Sonoma PD who understood our position but did not take any action. We understood that they possessed the right to refuse service to anyone, but given other reviews it is clear that they have a race problem. Would not recommend as staff members were extremely rude and obviously prejudiced towards people of color. I would think that we are past that in 2026, but Steiner's impresses in the least flattering of ways. Do not waste your money supporting them. read more

Steiner's has just lost a chunk of long time patrons and an even bigger chunk of potential new ones. I am a Black actress who comes into town a lot for shows and have been coming to Steiner's faithfully every year. I'd never had any issues so I recommended that my fellow cast members, who are also Black, come here for a wonderful night of food, drinks, and music. We get there and one of our friends wouldn't be let in because he had a bandana tied around his head (in a scarf-like fashion, might I add) and it could be "gang related". The bouncer swears it's been a rule for years but I just scrolled on their Instagram and saw a picture of a white woman with a bandana tied around her neck. So it's just fashion for her but possibly gang related for our friend? Interesting. We have a long stint here and not one of our dollars will ever be going to this establishment. And anyone affiliated with our show is being told not to patronize this establishment any longer. (Bonus: I called them out on Instagram for their racial discrimination. They didn't apologize or take any accountability. They just blocked me and some of my other cast mates who also called them out). read more

I wish I could rate this place lower. We came here after a friend's wedding, hoping to end the night on a good note--but what we witnessed instead was violent, racially charged, and deeply unsettling. The bar owner and staff exuded entitlement from the start, giving clear preferential treatment to white patrons while targeting and scrutinizing our group and other BIPOC guests. Things escalated quickly when a bouncer started a physical altercation with a much smaller brown man. The bouncer ended up putting him in a chokehold long after the scuffle should have ended. Multiple people had to physically pull him off. Afterwards, instead of showing any remorse, the bouncer smugly gloated about being trained in hand-to-hand combat. It was disturbing and triggering to witness, especially for those of us who are already too familiar with violence against people of color by those in positions of authority. I wish I could say this was a one-time incident, but after speaking with other restaurant staff in the area, we learned that similar experiences have happened before. They even advised us to steer clear of this place. This wasn't about safety. This was about power, ego, and racial bias. I would never recommend this place to anyone--especially fellow people of color. read more

I came here with a large group as an after-party for a wedding. We were all in great spirits and yes, most of the group had already been drinking. The staff was really nice... to the white people. If you look hispanic at all, watch out. They were definitely treating half of the wedding guests much differently. Right after calling one of our friends a homophobic slur, one of the staff members (bald guy, on shift 4/25) tackled him and had him in a headlock on the sidewalk out front. Cops were called and despite it being on video, friends were cuffed and booked for the night after being assaulted by staff. When it's literally your job to deal with drunk people I think having de-escalation skills is important. Also maybe don't be racist and homophobic just as general life advice. A local gave us a tip the next morning that this isn't an uncommon occurrence at this specific bar, and there are plenty of better spots walking distance to choose instead. I'll definitely be passing that info along to other friends from the Bay that take trips up to Sonoma to visit. read more

Tourist beware!! This is clearly a Locals Only spot! Came here a couple of times while visiting and every night it got worst! I love a good dive bar when traveling because you get a good sense of the town and this place gives the Town of Sonoma a bad rep! The bartender or "manager" Paul, was straight up disrespectful! Unless you were local and name to name basis. Literally got skipped when trying to order and saw him be disrespectful to some gals when he clearly got their order wrong. Then kicked them out and threaten to call the Sheriffs on them! Some of the security guards also seems to be fed up with him as when asked what happened all they had to say was "Paul was having a bad night and was overwhelmed " Rant over, but before coming or after you come and experience it, take a look at the low reviews and you'll see why this place should be avoided. Definitely don't come here after a wedding either, I know is the one of the few late spots open but don't have it ruin the beautiful day by Paul's ugliness. read more

I ordered two double vodka sodas with a splash of cranberry and was presented with a tab for 49 dollars. I've traveled all over the world and have indulged in lovely cocktails as a treat and never thought the most expensive drink I've had would be at Steiners. Considering this establishment panders to a younger crowd on the weekend I'd hope the pricing would be more on par. Good god. I could have had almost 4 gilarophies at the Swiss hotel for that price. Insane. Will I be back? Probably because there aren't many options in this town. Will I drink elsewhere beforehand ? Certainly. It's a shame. I have been here twice. 1. They have clean bathrooms. 2. They have jello shots. 3. There is a jukebox playing good music. I did not like their rib special.
