When you check in to the hotel, they give you two tickets for free drinks. Unfortunately, the bartender tries to upsell saying so and so are not included. They do have free snacks during 5pm and 7pm. Grille 29 was one of our 2024 Napa Restaurant week picks. It's a very nice space with a beautiful bar, chandeliers and windows looking out over a ballroom which was empty tonight but nicely lit with strings of small light blue lights. The lighting in the restaurant was a bit too bright, and the live music was great but a bit loud for easy conversation. The service was a bit slow, but fine overall. But the meal was great! Starters included a mix green salad (which I'm told was fine) or clam chowder in a bread bowl which was very good. My wife's New York steak included risotto and a rich pan sauce. My Risotto Genovese included a surprisingly generous portions of sea scallops, prawns and mussels in a zesty sauce. Desserts included crème brûlée cheesecake and Panna Cotta which were both yummy. We knew that the hotel was under construction. But the restaurant is open. We come for dinner. We live locally. I ask for a mojito and am told nope no mint. The staff is loading bottles of liquor on carts and wheeling them away. It's all weird. Our meals come out and it's like maybe a 2/5* like worse than Applebee's. What I can't get over us the rude ass woman waiting on us, I believe her anyways Lupe. Her hatred and indifference was obvious. read more

The food was absolutely amazing, the ambiance of the Embassy Suites beautiful! However the restaurant was brightly lit and loud with a live band. Don't get me wrong we loved the band but it was very hard to talk. I ordered a salad, New York Steak and the cheese cake. My husband ordered the clam chowder in a bread bowl ( which was the last one) and his dessert was also substituted. His entree was Risotto Genovese was tasty. The food was delicious and amazing! The service was good - she was the only server for the whole dinning room- so slow but she was working so hard to keep everyone happy. I can't say enough about this place! We've lived in Napa for 45 years and used to go here all the time... not sure why we stopped! Fortunately because it was restaurant week, we thought we'd try it again and boy were we impressed! We were greeted by Carol, the bartender, who we totally remembered, and had so much fun reminiscing about the old Embassy suites before Hilton took over. Carol brought us these beautiful menus and kudos whoever designed those! $42 for all of that! Can you believe it? I didn't get a picture of the salad or the bread bowl with clam chowder in it, but I would totally recommend that, and then I would ask for some butter for your bread bowl! Yum! We then met our server, Nathan. I think you can tell by the picture what a nice friendly guy he was! My husband and I both got the New York steak and it was truly the best we've ever had as well! Chef Garcia really knows how to season and serve a medium rare steak! Thank you Chef, hopefully you got our message that we truly loved our dinner and what an incredible chef you are. The panna cota was our favorite dessert. We thought for restaurant week that the servings might be skimpy because of what a good deal you'd be getting... It's a convenient restaurant if you're tired after a long day, staying at the Embassy Suites and just need a bite to eat. The restaurant is just one large room, with nice decor. The menu is not large and it's more suited for a snack vs. a formal, sit down meal. My wife had the chicken sandwich which she found very flavorful and enjoyed it. I just had a normal caesar salad which was overdressed. The servers were nice but there weren't enough of them so service was a little lacking. All in all, it's a solid 3 star experience. If you're hungry and not picky, it works. If you have the energy, there are many other restaurants in Napa that would be a better experience. read more

Stayed at the Embassy Suites for 2 nights so ordered a few things here. There doesn't seem to be a full time wait staff so you have to flag someone down or go to the bar to order and charge your room. The calamari starter was fine, good dipping sauce, but more fried veggies than calamari. I then had the chicken sandwich for lunch which was bland and a bit dry/lacking condiments but the French fries were well seasoned and cooked well. Lastly I had the smoked chicken salad for dinner which was more like a soup it had so much dressing in it I couldn't really taste the chicken. And the dessert was the smallest tiramisu I've ever seen- they also brought the wrong meal to my room so had to wait a bit longer. And it's a bit overpriced for the quality read more

Just ate Thanksgiving dinner at the restaurant. I left a bit confused- the food was excellent, which included single serving beef wellington and well made prime rib, but the service was quite literally the worst I've ever had in the greater Napa Valley, and I'm a local. It took an hour to get food, several orders were not correct, one person didn't get their food for another nearly 15 minutes after that, water was refilled once and only after being requested, no other drink service was offered, and plates were never cleared. This for an over $400 dinner for five people. And, might I add, it was not busy. The server would disappear for lengthy periods of time, and we were left wondering if the $14 mini slice of pumpkin pie was worth it. Needless to say, we will not be returning since there are much better options nearby. read more

The atmosphere is quiet and wonderful. Not at all what I would expect from a hotel restaurant. I didn't expect elevated food at these price points here in Napa either! We shared Brussels sprouts with bacon (everything is better with bacon)! One person had mac & cheese and that looked so decadent. I had crispy salmon and I would so go back for that dish! Another person had the giant burger and they kept raving over the waffle fries. Service was wonderful and honestly since I live here in Napa, I do see going back. I almost broke down my never giving 5 stars rule. This is 4.9 stars and that's a lot coming from me! Ate again today. Grille 29 is a middling hotel restaurant. They excel when they're casual. At breakfast, they have made-to-order pancakes, waffles&omelettes. It's essentially a Sunday brunch everyday, with a variety of fresh fruit options, cereals, you name it. The more low-key the meal, the better they are. The "mill pond" in the center of the Embassy Suites evokes Napa Valley meets Blue Bayou restaurant meets Pirates of the Caribbean. You expect to see riders headed down a waterfall, screaming at the first descent- but no, this is the relaxed Napa Valley. The manager's reception in the afternoon also excels because it's wine&chill. There are snacks to accompany the wine- cheese&charcuterie boards, chips&salsa. They highlight Napa Valley wines. Breakfast&the manager's reception are the best because the expectations are moderate. The service is friendly, the restaurant is clean&attractive. On the other hand, dinner varies wildly. I was once at a catered company Christmas dinner at Grille 29&it was handled superbly. But the following year was a tremendous letdown. There were supposed to be appetizers at 6 pm, then the dinner at 7 pm.... by the time BOTH the appetizers&dinner arrived at 7 pm, people were famished&desperate. To make matters worse, the roast beef carving station got abandoned, so coworkers ended up slicing the meat themselves. The servers were disinterested&apathetic. There were neither apologies nor explanations. Grille 29 shines at the most important meal of the day- breakfast. Plenty of freshly made offerings. The manager's reception is relaxing. Dinner varies in quality. If it's a quiet family dinner, it's more likely to be a success than a catered dinner for a large group. read more

This place is great! Food: We had the new York steak and salmon and it was cooked to perfection . The salmon was crispy on the outside and very moist. The flavor was intense. My mouth is watering thinking about it. The steak melts in your mouth. Very tasty. We had soup as well and the portabello mushroom soup is a must have!!! Service: The servers are awesome: Nathan and Mayra are very friendly, welcoming, knowledgeable with what they serve and best of all they were prompt. Nathan knows his wine! After a full day at the pool and shopping at the outlet, we found ourselves looking for a place to eat at 9pm. Resigned to whatever we could find, we were surprised by Grille 29! The Kid's Cheeseburger was delicious, not dry, but seasoned perfectly! You'll be hard pressed to find anything kid sized with this item ... Mary's Chicken Sandwich was likewise full of flavor, again not your dry, desiccated chicken, there was freshness to this sandwich. The avocado relish was probably prepared fresh immediately prior to garnishing the sandwich ... The Chicken Caesar Salad was crispy and snappy at every bite. Dressing was just right, each portion was not dripping nor with dry spots, this salad was dressed and tossed well. Thanks to Lupe, she was a gracious host and a most attentive server. read more

We had dinner here on our first night stay at the Embassy Suites in Napa & I thought they did a nice job. My Prawns Linguine was fresh and tasty. My guy had the French dip and the au jus was filled with flavor. Chocolate lava cake for dessert. The prices and portions were really fair for Napa. My mother and I decided to try Grill 29 after our neighbors recommended that we try the locals' night on Tuesdays which offers us a 50% discount. When we arrived at the restaurant, we saw a sign stating for patrons to seat themselves. We both sat down and waited patiently but unfortunately received no attention from any of the staff that were cruising by. After ten minutes of being ignored, we agreed that we would walk out after ten more. Five minutes later, a waitress came and asked if we had been helped. I replied that we hadn't. She asked if we had just gotten here, and I replied that we had been waiting over ten minutes. She shrugged her shoulders and begrudgingly asked what we wanted to order, this would set the tone for the meal. I ordered the Mac and Cheese along with the Steak Frites and my mother had the Butternut Squash Soup along with the Roasted "Drenched" Chicken. When the appetizers arrived, we both immediately noticed that they had the characteristics of something I feel some expensive fine-dining restaurants in the Wine Country region suffer from which I like to call SPS, or Small Portion Syndrome. While the mac and cheese was sufficiently tasty with a decent white cheddar sauce and bacon, there's no way on the face of the earth that I would pay $12 for it. My mother commented that her squash soup was good, but nothing to write home about. However, the most egregious thing about our appetizers was that it was served with two slices of bread that were so hard that they could have broken my teeth! Finally, the entrees arrived, and when we saw them, we were extremely disappointed. The barely 3-4 ounces of steak I received looked decent along with the 4 or so pieces of waffle fries, a small baked onion and arugula. My mother's chicken arrived nestled in a pool of fat in which the potatoes were barely staying afloat. They were so greasy, it looked like they had been covered in an oil slick! GROSS! My steak was cooked properly at medium rare and the fries were OK, but the arugula had absolutely no flavor and seemed like an afterthought. As far as the service for the rest of the meal, the server was kind enough to bring us complimentary bread. Otherwise, she was grumpy and unfriendly to us throughout the entire meal and delivered water to us twice. The first time, she spilled water on the table and the second, she slammed the bottle on the table so that she wouldn't have to keep bringing it to us. The only time she smiled was at the end of the meal when she asked us how the food was, if we wanted dessert, and clearly sensed it was time for her to try and get a big tip. Yeah right! Overall, this is arguably the worst restaurant experience I've had in the Napa County since moving here 7 years ago. There are quite a few other restaurants in the area that serve good food and decent portions for a comparable or cheaper price and actually make you feel like a welcome customer. It takes a lot for anyone in my family not to leave a tip, but in this case, we definitely do not regret leaving our waitress nothing. I find Grille 29 to be an absolute disgrace and is a restaurant I'd strongly recommend to avoid like the plague. There's a reason why they are giving half-off their dinners on Tuesday nights, the establishment is 100% half-baked! read more

Pleasantly surprised! Now that we've tried it, I'm surprised there aren't more great reviews. We had reservations downtown but we're still full from our late lunch so decided to cancel and eat at the hotel when we got hungry which was a late dinner around 9pm. Definitely wasn't expecting a whole lot from the mediocre Yelp reviews and just for the mere fact that it's a hotel restaurant. Boy was I surprised, we were a party of 8 and everyone loved what they ordered. The dishes that I was able to try was the crispy skin Salmon which 3 of us had and al loved. I also loved the chicken wings and the French onions soup, which is sometimes hard to find a good one. We read another review about free corkage so brought in a bottle and they were more then happy to open and serve us. All in all I think this is a hidden gem! But hopefully word doesn't eat or too much lol. read more

Carole. That's all that needs to be said. I have been coming here for years just to sit with her and visit at the bar, if you are in a good mood or bad, she is there to make you smile. The only place I prefer when it's slow so that I can have more of her attention and friendly attitude. The food is great considering what you would typically get at a hotel restaurant, and my 3 yr old daughter will eat it she's really picky. We all ordered the French onion soup which was good but the Mac and cheese had no flavor, the fish a chips was okay, and the French dip was also just ok as were the waffle fries. Last night my sister and I enjoyed great meals and excellent service at Grille 29 on locals' night (Tuesday from 4-6). We had the French onion soup, the beet and arugula salad, the salmon and chicken dinners. All wonderful! We brought a bottle of wine with us, and corkage was free! The bill was 50% off, making our delicious meals only $34 total. Unheard of in Napa! Thanks to the owners, and a special shout out to Nathan, our waiter, who was upbeat and very accommodating; he even worked slowly and carefully to successfully remove a stubborn and fragile cork from our special bottle of wine. It was nicely decorated and very clean. We had the Caesar salad and salmon with mashed potatoes and fresh vegetables. The hotel have new owners and are offering the best deals in Napa! Every Tuesday everything on the food menu is 50% off, yep you read that right, EVERYTHING! We just had two appetizers, two entrees and a child entree, two glasses of wine, and a dessert for only $52! That is unheard of in Napa. And the food was fantastic. On Mondays they are doing $20 all you can eat buffet during the football games, and Wednesday night is live local music with special happy hour menu from 6-8. These are the best deals in Napa and I hope they attract people so they can keep these deals going. read more

This Grille is inside the Embassy Suites. The restaurant itself was not easy to locate. There are no obvious signs or directions telling you where to go. It has a high class appearance with semi-high prices. If you are looking for a cheap meal this is not the place for you. Sevice was friendly but only one waiter/bartender was on shift while we were there. If this place gets busy that could lead to rough wait times. The wife and I shared a pepperoni pizza which was middle of the road - not bad, but not great. This was a tourist meal stop for us, not likely to recommend it or come back. What a nice surprise. We decided to stay in as we are staying on property. Wanted to pass on the Uber. Had a few meals in downtown NAPA via Open Table. Again, stayed on property. Glad we did. The chicken was fantastic! The steak was made to perfection. We brought our own wine from our daily adventures at the vineyards. It was opened, decanted, and served with no extra fee! This rating is not directed toward my overall experience. It is directed toward a bar person named Barby. Her name fully matches her bad attitude. I have been in and out of the bar business since i was a child. At a recent wedding reception at ES. I came across one of the worst bar maids I have met in quite a while. I hope this person finds a new profession soon because this one does not go well with being rude to customers. Grill 29 is a nice place and you would not expect to get treated the way I was.
