The service was good. We didn't need to wait long for the food. There was hardly anyone there for dinner on a weeknight. No reservations, no wait. We ordered the chili chili chicken, the orange chicken, the green beans, cucumber salad, and gyoza. The chili chicken used to be boneless. It was much better boneless. Each piece of meat has more exposure to the chili and it gives a nice burn. The way this was prepared, it was ok, but really wasn't spicy. We were disappointed in that. Everything else was wonderful. Though the cocktails weren't as amazing as the last time we were here. I like that they have indoor and outdoor seating, and even indoors feels spacious. Morimoto Napa is a beautiful restaurant situated along the river, offering a great atmosphere and scenic views that make it an enjoyable stop, especially on a warm Napa afternoon. The cocktails were a standout, particularly the lychee cocktail. Light, refreshing, and well balanced, it was the perfect drink to enjoy while taking in the riverfront setting. For appetizers, the spicy chicken wontons and karaage chicken were both excellent. The wontons had a great balance of flavor and heat, while the karaage was crispy, flavorful, and well executed. These dishes were among our favorites of the meal. Unfortunately, the hand roll sushi was the biggest disappointment of the meal. It was not cut, making it difficult to share, and overall felt fairly mediocre. Nothing about the flavors, texture, or presentation particularly stood out. The beef and broccoli was a mixed experience. The sauce was delicious and packed with flavor, but the beef itself was tough and cut into larger chunks than expected, which made the dish feel somewhat underwhelming overall. While not every dish was a home run, the beautiful riverside location, refreshing cocktails, and strong appetizer selection made for a very enjoyable visit. I would recommend Morimoto Napa for drinks, appetizers, and a relaxing view of the river. Got to come celebrate Valentine's Day here! My boyfriend made a reservation, which was a bit confusing. Make sure you keep note of where you reserve because we thought our reservation was at Morimoto Napa (sushi). We had to go to both restaurants. On the sunnier side, this location has the waterfront and nice ambiance. Our visit was somewhat underwhelming. We had to still wait 10-15 minutes to be seated even with a reservation and flag down a waiter just to order...Felt #forgotten sitting outside. Our hostess did offer a glass of champagne on the house because of that wait, so we really appreciated that. Seems like we had a great time sipping more so eating. The menu here is Asian Fusion with duck tacos and your classic xiao long bao (soup dumplings). We opted for the Chicken Karaage, Tonkotsu Ramen, and Handrolls at $8-$9 each (tempura, tuna, and salmon). For drinks, we got the sake, hot special brewed black tea, and Ajia Iced Tea (mango syrup in fresh brewed tea and Calpico). The food was decent, but not amazing for Asian food. The Salmon and Tuna Handrolls were fresh and tasty. The tonkotsu had chicken breast instead of chashu pork and it was really dry, but good broth flavor. I was more impressed by how delicious their drinks were like that Ajia mocktail and fresh black tea was like liquid golddddd. Not sure if I'd come back to this location. Being a fan of Morimoto Napa and Morimoto, The Master, I've been wanting to try this place, but it's so hard to choose to eat here when one of my favorite restaurants (Morimoto Napa) is just a few doors down. It was surprisingly easy to grab a table for a late lunch on a Saturday. We sat outside so we had a beautiful view and our server was attentive- no complaints. My favorites were the Peking Duck, Cod, Chili Chili Crispy Chicken and Spicy Eggplant but everything else missed the mark. Probably won't be back. We ordered Peking Duck, the duck's texture missed the crispy skin and meat is tasteless (if don't add any hoisin sauce) The duck leg drumstick almost confit. -- so I guess this is a fusion style Peking duck, not a traditional authentic Peking style roast duck. 2nd dish: kung pao chicken. This is a very common yet famous Sichuan dish. But instead of cube size chicken, this dish came with 1inch bite size chicken. The gravy of kung pao chicken supposedly has "spicy lychee flavor" which mixture of spicy, sweet and sour. But what I tasted here is a common stir fry chicken nuggets. Then I also ordered a bowl of rice: what a disappointment- as if the rice as repeated re-heated for days, doesn't have such fluffy fresh texture. By the way, I love the Moromoto sushi restaurant's sushi rice. In short, the quality of the dishes here cannot be compared with the wonderful dishes in Morimoto Sushi next door. This is my 3rd time being at this Chef's establishment. This completes the circle of life. I didn't expect it to look like this in here, it's slightly Upscale, spacious, I really like the High ceilings, Architecture, Design, and it's modern, clean, and fresh. Today, I'm going to Duck it out. I went with the fresh Duck Ramen ラーメン, but I also had to get it with the Duck Tacos this time, that's another double whammy. Everything is made out of Duck. And it changes seasonally, but this Ramen happen to be off the Menu, they made this for me today, Limited time or Run. The Broth was out of this world, deep, savory, packed with flavor, and the Noodles were cooked just right. And Wow, the Tacos were phenomenal, what an awesome take, this was one of the best Tacos I ever had so far, believe it or not. I gotta give them some points, for orginality. And I can't forget about, their own crafted tea in Japan, that's very interesting, how it's crafted in Japan. I liked the morimoto that has japanese food so I decided to give this place a try. Our server Richard was really nice. I just didn't like the food that much. I ordered the duck and asked if I could get it with bao instead of tortillas but that wasn't an option. The duck came with a hot stone just in case you wanted to make the skin extra crispy. It came with pico de gallo, hoisin sauce, and some sauce that was supposed to have apricot. It was a weird combo to me. I think because I kept thinking the apricot sauce was basically lumpia sauce. The dumpling sampler was solid but just came with five pieces and was pricey. My brother ordered the thai basil fried rice. It had ground beef, egg, spicy thai basil sauce, and fried garlic. The egg was good but I think the rice had too much going on at once and tasted over seasoned. Overall the food wasn't terrible but the mix of flavors didn't complement each other in my opinion. Came here for dinner with my sister and her husband so here we are. We came in and started off with a few cocktails. I ordered the lychee tini and the perfect pear. My sister and her husband both ordered the Morimoto punch. The drinks were pretty solid. The lychee tini was more on the sweeter side. Perfect pear was sweet as well but it definitely was a bit stronger than the lychee tini. My sister and her husband said that the Morimoto punch tasted like juice and that it was easy to consume. Regarding food, I ordered the dim sum sampler, Thai basil fried rice, house roasted Peking duck which my sister and I shared, while my brother in law ordered the mapo ramen. The dim sampler came with 5 pieces, it wasn't bad but it left much to be desired. The Thai basil fried rice had a nice presentation however it was overly seasoned and the optional sauce that came with it made it seem sweet which didn't really make sense. The house roasted Peking duck was good, however it would be nice if it was served with bao buns instead of tortillas. I really like that it came with a mini grill which gave you the option of making the skin crispier if you wanted to. I didn't get a pic of the ramen but my brother in law said the ramen was drenched in oil. The service here was pretty good. Our server Richard took great care of us. He was very enthusiastic and had a great attitude. He also was big on promoting the nightclub events at their restaurant which it becomes later in the night. The ambiance of this restaurant is gives off a more classy vibe. Looks like a place where you definitely want to dress decent at. Not sure what the place looks like later tho when they turn it into a nightclub. Overall, I would have to give Richard a 5/5 but the food quality 3/5. To my surprise, there was no awareness for the dislike for the dish on the servers part when they collected the dishes almost untouched to ask if everything was ok with their meals. I was fortunate enough to tag along when my sister and brother-in-law along with my mom, went to have lunch at Morimoto Asia Napa on Saturday. When we entered, we were greeted by hostess who would also be our server: Gia. The restaurant had just opened, and despite our error: showing up on the wrong day of our reservation, the restaurant was not only kind enough to accommodate our 6-person party, they even honored our special request: we specifically came back for the ribeye Wagyu a couple of people had the year prior. The thing is that the Morimoto Asia location has since stopped featuring on their menu. Fortunately their sister-restaurant, Morimoto Napa serves Japanese A5 Wagyu and was just around the corner from the Asia location. The Napa restaurant was gracious enough to send over a couple of steaks to Asia location so it can be prepared for us the way it was a year ago! Talk about stellar customer service. Wow. Aside from the Wagyu steaks, my brother-in-law ordered the beef filet (which was a New York cut steak). We also order the orange chicken, house fried rice, a couple of steamed rice and the sizzling pork sisig as our other entrees. For our appetizers we ordered the steamed pork gyoza, pork & shrimp shumai ,and a double order of both the chicken and the black cod karaage. All the the food was masterfully prepared; everything tasted so delectable, we practically finished every morsel. Everything, and I do mean everything, was so good. The price-tag-- let's just say it was pretty hefty... BUT well worth it! That Wagyu was so smooth, so divine; it's an experience I can happily check off of my bucket list and would gladly pay for again. The service was nothing short of immaculate; the staff was great and very attentive: Jeff, Gia, the other guy whom we did get his name but he help dropped off the food and even one of the afternoon chefs who looked out from the kitchen so see our party off. Came here on a Friday night to find this place pretty empty. The girl at the front greeted us right as soon as we walked in, BUT the first thing she was NOT, "hi" or "welcome in"... the first thing she actually said was "you guys know this isn't the one that serves sushi, right?" We were a little taken aback. A nice friendly greeting would have been nice, but we moved passed that pretty quick. The service was mediocre at best, being that our waiter was also working as the bartender. Not to mention the hostess was also doubling as the waitress. I can't complain about the food, it's pretty descent but small in portions. The reason for the 3 stars is because when the hostess/waitress asked if we were done eating and took our food away, my husband SPECIFICALLY ASKED TO TAKE HIS LEFTOVERS TO GO. She came back with the check and NO BOXES. We asked her about it and she said she accidentally threw it away! And she said "oh sorry, must have been a miscommunication" ... as if WE WEREN'T CLEAR. I'm sorry, but she was actually the absent minded one who went into auto pilot and tossed it. This was our first visit to Morimoto last weekend and I was very excited to try this famous chefs restaurant as I've heard wonderful things. But no we didn't have sushi.. this is Morimoto's Asia which is near morimoto's main restaurant in Napa. The restaurant has a modern vibe and a lot of open windows to see the great downtown area. We tried several of the dim sum all which were wonderful. The dim sum combo had excellent choices as well as we added several others. We had crystal shrimp, The shumai, pork gyoza, crab Rangoon, chashu pork bun, and the flavors were all so fresh and mouthwatering, not greasy or too heavily salted. I could have made a meal on this and wanted to add the sticky ribs or more dims in but we had ordered main entrees too. We then tried the beef chow fun, orange chicken, shrimp and scallops in chili sauce and fried rice. The signature drinks, wine and appetizers came out quickly but the rest of the entrees took much longer and the table next to us was waiting was seemed like forever for their hot pot. The kind waiter had to get the manager involved this night and it was resolved but it does seem like they have some kitchen challenges on weekends still with busy times - as the light festival was going strong and downtown was packed! My sister and I love Morimoto Napa so of course, we had to come check out Morimoto Asia. What Morimoto Asia aims to be is a dim sum house with an option to do hot pot. The menu is a bit confusing to start. They lists appetizers and dim sums. You flip the menu over and you see "dim sum from the carts". I asked our server if carts will be going around serving dim sum and he said no, those are just ordered from the kitchen! The whole list should just be moved to the front under "dim sum". The "hinabe hot pot" should have it's own mini section. Just a few small changes. FOOD: We ordered the string beans, spicy chicken wonton, har gow, house fried rice with chicken, xiao long bao, bbq pork bun and the chicken sticky rice. My favorite dishes were the spicy chicken wontons, a good kick to start your meal. The xiao long bao with ginger sauce, fried rice and sticky chicken rice were all winners. My least favorite was the string beans as it was sitting in chili oil and was also smothered and dripping with oil!! It was too much. I would say the flavors were all good and along the lines of what you would expect from a fusion Asian restaurant. Service and delivery of food was quick. The bar however was backed up and took awhile for our mocktails to arrive (long after our food arrived). And on Jan 1st of this year, after we checked out from Hotel Yountville, we stayed at the pool area until 5pm and head over to Napa Downtown area for dinner. With the Terracotta Warriors outside of the restaurant, and dragon climbing across the pillar in the dining area, this restaurant has many craft cocktails and wine list, also with beautiful views of the Napa River. plum...? $15 I ordered a fruity cocktail made with plum, creme de violette, cointreau and lemon. The violet purple cocktail was decorated by a flower. Moonlight Czeck Pilsner $5 Husband got the pilsner, which went well with ramen and gyoza. Seared Pork Gyoza $14 We ordered the traditional pan fried pork gyoza for appetizer. The filling with pork, Napa cabbage and garlic chive tasted very good! We made reservations with this location with hopes of having some good eats, but the visit was a bit underwhelming. The location was clean and not too busy. The staff were friendly and welcoming and sitting was easy. We started off with the karaage chicken which was great! Juicy, tender, and well seasoned. For our entrees we ordered the king pao chicken, orange chicken and the house friend rice. The king pao chicken was spicy and juicy but needed a little more flavor and seasoning, the house fried rice was perfectly seasoned and delicious, however I couldn't say the same for the orange chicken. The orange chicken was told to have been a fan favorite of the restaurant, but the chicken came out at sauced tenders. The chicken was overly sauced to the point the chicken was no longer crispy and came off soggy. The orange flavor was just sweet and no distinctive orange flavor if it was supposed to be made in house. I only ate two bites before I realized I wasn't going to finish it. When it came time to end and pick up our bill, our waiter took our selected foods and boxed them to go, however my friends king pao was mistakenly thrown away. The ambiance is great! The outside patio is nice, as is the bar. Happy hour is solid with the hamachi collar a great offering. We also came after a show to do some post-show dancing. I love Chef Morimoto but I was a little disappointed with my visit. Was visiting some dear friends in NorCal and was very excited to visit this restaurant. The service was excellent. The food was very good but not fantastic. The portions did not match the price point. The server told us that the Beef Chow Fun was very large and could feed 2 people. That was a definite misstep. While this had to be one of the best dishes on the table with thick, medium rare meat slices, the portion was a bit scant. We expected to share. Keep in mind we were a party of 7. We ordered quite a bit. We ordered 2 Beef Chow Fun, Orange Chicken, Thai Basil fried Rice, Dim Sum Sampler, Vegetable Kung Pao, Steamed rice (10 bucks for 2 little dishes of sticky rice), Chili Chili Chicken and Beef Pepper Steak. The portions were not commensurate with the price of everything. I think the most brazen charge was $10 for 2 measuring cups of cheap sticky rice. We did also leave a $45 tip because the service was excellent. Don't get me wrong, the food was very good but, again, the portions were quite stingy. Generosity was not a quality here. Went on Saturday evening (1/24) and unfortunately had a pretty frustrating experience. Service was extremely delayed from the start -- we waited about 15 minutes before anyone came to our table. When we were finally greeted, Carlos helped us and was very kind and professional. It was obvious he was juggling multiple roles (bartending, taking orders, etc.), and he did the best he could given the situation. The restaurant seemed very short staffed, which showed throughout the meal. Each dish took at least 30 minutes to arrive, and our main entrées came out separately, which made it hard to enjoy the meal together. We also had an issue with the soup -- it came out overly chunky and thick instead of having a normal broth consistency. We sent it back, but the supervisor/manager came over and initially said there was nothing they could do and that a new cup would take a very long time. That response was disappointing. I suggested they simply add more broth to balance the texture, and only then did he say he'd "see what he could do." The lack of willingness to try a simple fix right away was frustrating. On top of that, one of the dishes lacked the depth of flavor you'd expect from Asian cuisine -- it tasted flat and under-seasoned. What made the night more disappointing was that the staff knew we were celebrating our anniversary, but there was no acknowledgment at all -- not even a simple "happy anniversary." It would have gone a long way, especially given the overall experience. Overall, while some staff members were friendly and clearly trying, the long waits, kitchen delays, bland food, and poor handling of a basic food issue made for a disappointing night. Hoping this was just an off night, but they really need better staffing and smoother service flow. read more
