We stopped by for a Mother's Day dinner snd luckily they were able to accommodate us without a reservation! The food here was really good and tasted really authentic. The meat was also well seasoned from the chicken shawarma to the beef kebabs. The salad was also really yummy and refreshing and the dressing was very flavorful and I strongly suggest it! The fried halloumi was a favorite in our group but personally I didnt enjoy the texture as much it may have just been too fried for my liking. We also got their Turkish coffee and it was quite strong which is how i like my coffee, and the cardamom flavor was really nice. Excellent food, friendly people. We so desperately needed a good middle eastern restaurant in the North Bay. Levant is a breath of fresh air! We tried three different dishes, an appetizer and two dessert and all were delicious. The Sayedieh and Maglouba were so moist and flavorful, yet the rice still holding its beautiful shape. I can't claim I make better rice at home! The only thing that can improve and I don't know if they can influence it at this point, is that it was too loud on a busy Friday night. It's a good sign for the restaurant but it makes it hard if you're trying to catch up with friends and have a conversation. Delicious Mediterranean food, clean and boisterous cafe atmosphere, friendly service. Really enjoyed the Lebnah and the Muhammara. When spread on soft chewy pita bread, paired with a middle eastern glass of white wine, this was a perfect appetizer course. I enjoyed the Falafel, although it was dense. Great flavor and moisture content, incredible crunch on the outside, but was a bit heavy on the inside. The sauce that accompanied it was delicious and artfully spread across the platter, but I wanted more. Would have preferred a simple ramekin with enough sauce to properly dip, of spread across the Falafel. Lamb chops were seasoned well, cooked perfectly, and made for a perfect main dish served atop saffron rice. The Kanafa was the sleeper hit of the evening! I had no idea what to expect, but this savory/sweet dessert was remarkable. It was crispy on the outside, gooey and salty cheesy inside, then drizzled with sweet syrup and topped with pistachios. This dessert is 5 out of 5 stars! While everything we ordered was great, I overheard the waitress apologize to 3 different tables adjacent to us about high wait times for food. Given the restaurant is so new, I hope they are just figuring things out, and that this is not a sign of unsustainable quality. Came her with my sister last week. I was visiting from out of town and she was dying to try this place. It's super cute and small enough to feel intimate and special, but big enough for groups as well. We started with prosecco which came in super cute mini bottles, and Greek fries. I had never had Greek fries before, and these we fantastic! I could eat these every day!! I cannot remember the name of what I got for my entree, but it was chicken wrapped in pita, cut into small perfect bites. We ordered a super yummy bottle of wine with dinner which we really enjoyed. Everything was absolutely delicious, and the service was fabulous. We had a perfect evening catching up over great food and wine. I would definitely come back when I'm in town visiting! Wanted to try this place and here's my feedback to the owners... Beef was over cooked by about 3-5 minutes longer than it should. And so was the chicken. Portions are rather small for the price, but doable. I would recommend to have the meat more medium than well done as it loses its juices. All ingredients were fresh and of high quality so that's not the issue. This place has a huge potential to be the best, if they master their meat cooking temperatures. Petaluma would welcome another good Mediterranean place, I think. We like Pearl a lot. I'd hoped Levant, with its superior location, might be an authentic new standout. But so far, it's a mixed bag. The location, across from Boulevard Cinema, is central, and great. A for ambiance. The space is comfy, well-appointed, nicely lit, attractive. The music is Middle Eastern and pretty (huge relief to not have to listen to modern pop or stale oldies when eating out!). The service was very good! Our server was Petaluma-nice, VERY helpful with the menu and our questions. She heard me out nicely on my criticisms of the food. To wit, the Kufta, while FAIRLY tasty, was pretty tough, oddly stringy. The rice under it was tepid because the plate hadn't evidently been heated. Not to mention that it was all-but-flavorless (saffron, my aff) and rather too moist/soft. But I praise the red lentil soup, which was terrific: densely flavorful and served piping hot. My wife had a lamb dish, Maglouba, from the "Teta" (Grandma) section of the menu. She really liked the accompanying cauliflower, eggplant and almond slivers but was bored by the lamb itself. And she's a big lamb fan. TIP: It will save you time to pay using your mobile and the QR code on the bill. The lone hitch in the service was that they were slow to pick up, process and return my credit card. We wish Levant success, but--even in forgiving Petaluma--success will be short-lived if the kitchen doesn't bring its act up to match the service. read more

Levant is a true gem in the heart of Downtown Petaluma. Their food is very authentic and the portions are generous. The ambience is very elegant and tasteful yet warm and inviting. The music is lively but at a volume where you can still talk and hear your fellow dinner mates. The food came out quickly, and the service was very attentive. Lots of vegan options as well. Not to be missed: the hummus, muhammara and the kufta (I had the one with impossible meat). It was mouth watering delicious. We wanted to try even more food but we had to stop ourselves. We were so full! We can't wait to return and try more dishes, especially the Makloubeh which is hard to find on any Middle Eastern menu! read more

I generally love Middle Eastern food and have enjoyed excellent meals throughout my travels in Jordan and Turkey, but unfortunately this experience did not meet those expectations, even though the restaurant is Palestinian-owned. Dining out should be an enjoyable experience, especially now that eating out is so expensive. Between higher menu prices, added restaurant surcharges on top of regular taxes, and the expected 20% tip, you really want the meal to be worth it. My husband ordered the beef kebab ($28), which was served as cubes of beef over rice. The meat was spongy and very chewy, and the presentation was not appealing. He ate the rice but could not eat the meat, and we ended up taking it home for our dog. I ordered the beet salad ($17). It was decent, but not great. We also ordered fries, which were actually good--covered with cheese and olives--and ended up being the main thing we enjoyed. In the end, the total bill, including the added restaurant tax, regular tax, and tip, did not feel justified for what we received. I do want to note that the waiter was friendly, and the owners were also welcoming, which we appreciated. Overall, while the service was pleasant, the food quality did not match the price. read more

Can't see receipt to check it and only option given was to tap card. Pre-programmed with 20-25-30% tips, and again can't see bill to know tax or even if itemized correct. Felt rushed as she was standing there. Had receipt texted to me after tipping etc. & find out they charge a 3% credit card fee, never mentioned, and guessing that pre-programmed tip amount includes tip on that and 10% tax, so 13% over your actual food/drinks. Had the red pepper/walnut dip (so creamy with a nice latent hit of spice), Arayes (basically shwarma nacho sandwiches, very tasty), Jordanian cheese on crackers (salty roasted cheese with lemon). Servers help each other out rather than one person, so we always felt well tended to. Dishes come out when ready, so had a nice pace from one to another. We love Levant. Been a few times now and the food and service has been terrific. So happy to have this gem downtown.

We cannot wait to go back as there were just two of us and way too many things on the menu we wanted to try! We settled in the ful appetizer (a mash of fava beans with flatbread) and the mansaf (a traditional celebration dish of lamb, saffron rice and yogurt). The ful was a bit under-seasoned for my taste, but admittedly I'd never had it before so it could just be how it's prepared. The mansaf was out of this world - the lamb was fork tender. Portions were generous and reasonably priced. The wine and beer list is limited although we were very happy with the Palestinian white wine we ordered. We didn't have a reservation and our only option to avoid waiting was taking seats at the bar although we enjoyed the friendly and helpful service from the bartender. The dining area is well-lit and quiet enough for normal conversation despite the hard surfaces. We are looking forward to going back again and again. read more

This is a total gem of a place! Just happened on this restaurant last minute after the restaurant we planned to go to looked awful. Our waitress was amazing--she helped us select the dishes to order, brought us samples of Lebanese and West Bank Palestinian wine, which were great, and was all-around fabulous. The food was great! My friends live in Santa Rosa, I live in San Rafael, and we would definitely go out of our way to go back there for a wonderful meal that was also reasonably priced. read more

The atmosphere is thick with the scent of roasting spices and the warm hospitality that defines Palestinian culture. The star of the show is undoubtedly the Maqluba. This "upside-down" dish is a masterclass in texture: the rice is perfectly infused with the essence of cinnamon and allspice, layered with tender, fall-off-the-bone lamb and golden-fried cauliflower. We also sampled the Musakhan, which offered a vibrant tangy punch from the heavy use of sumac. The chicken was moist, perched atop thick taboon bread that had soaked up the premium olive oil and caramelized onions. We finished the meal with a piece of Knafeh. Didn't end up finishing. The prices are a bit higher than I would expect compared to what you get. It's new to Petaluma, and it was a very pleasant surprise! Beginning with the starters (Mezze), they offer several and we ordered a mixed platter, including Hummus, Babaganoush and Muhammara. All 3 were delicious and the portions were quite generous (all for only $21!). The 2 of us managed to eat about half of it, to save room for the main course. Here we shared the Kufta--rolled ground beef and lamb served over rice with potatoes, onions, spices and a tahini topping. Again, delicious! Our server, Rachel, was very helpful, and one last note--they boxed up the appetizers we didn't finish and when we opened them to go with our lunch the next day, I'd swear they added extra to each one, along with a large helping of extra pita bread. The mezze platter had several options to choose from. The hummus was fresh and wonderful. Very excellent baba ghanouj. The muhammara red pepper and walnut dip had excellent flavor and was unlike any other spreads we've had. The Maglouba was very tasty and well seasoned. The Sayadieh with seabass and salmon had an amazing depth of flavor and was cooked perfectly with soft/delicate fish and the tomato-saffron rice with it was excellent. The baklava for dessert was delicious. Had a Lebanese red wine which paired wonderfully with the meal. Sitting in the crocodile space , after the awful Italian that had a go , the Palestinian take on the levant is a welcome addition to the town ! Clearly overstaffed for the location but makes service work really well , and for this part of the Mediterranean it's happily not Greek or Turkish! , a nice familiar menu , good tasty food , nice atmosphere , I hope they succeed in this difficult corner - our town now has a proper compliment of styles of the region - Luma , Perl , real donnar , urban deli , and nick the Greek - all very different angles on the region ... the vibe and food here should make this place stick ! read more
