I came here for a work lunch with my colleagues mid-week. I enjoyed one of their mocktails and to eat I had the stead sandwich and salad. My drink was fantastic! It was very refreshing and reminded me of a pina colada. My steak sandwich was good, but could've benefited from greens to cut through the heaviness of the meat, bread, and cheese. The salad was also overdressed and very salty. That being said, we were a large group and they did a good job serving all of us! We have always liked Luma, the location and resturant is great. Every time we have gone it just seems to get a bit worse with the food. ‍ They were pretry busy ob the patio and seemed a little under staffed, I ordered a diet soda and got a regular one and weirdly a 3oz glass to drink it out of so I had to ask for an actual cup. This time we went for lunch, the beet salad was Great! I ordered a burger, we have gotten their burgers before and they were always good but this time the bun was hard, like maybe it was a little stale and the meat to bread ratio was SO OFF It looked like a single patty smash burger. We started with Pinot Noir wine, then a golden goddess salad that was spectacular, they use escarole lettuce and roasted, small put mighty roasted peas, fascinating, the dressing was the right vinegar, olive oil ratio & herbs(tarragon, an underrated herb). The burger arrived with another side of delicious salad. I love my greens. Then the pièce de résistance, their FRENCH FRIES, yes worthy of all caps. Cut perfectly, crispy outside, smooth, mash potato consistency inside, Michelin Star worthy, hell Yeah! Oh forgot comes with aioli(not overpowering garlic & ketchup too). And yes another glass of Pinot was in order. We decided on a chocolate dessert with an intriguing sesame toffee on top. This wasn't my favorite, I believe they can do better, perhaps a lava cake, or chocolate torte (not so inventive, but a sure thing) and the toffee was more chewy than crispy. The ambiance feels modern and relaxed, with a great view right along the river that is perfect for a laid-back meal with good company. I came here for lunch with my family and we had a party of six. We started with the mini mezza appetizer, then ordered a mix of entrees: steak and frites, the soup of the day (corn chowder), cheeseburger, Greek flatbread, black cod, and gnocchi. Everyone at the table really enjoyed their meals, but my favorite by far was the steak and frites. I ordered it rare and it came out perfectly -- soft, juicy, and paired with a chimichurri sauce that was absolute perfection. There weren't any complaints from our group, and to top it off, since we were celebrating a birthday, the restaurant surprised us with a rich chocolate fudge brownie on the house. Such a sweet touch and a great way to end the meal! Overall, this place checks all the boxes, great food, great service, and a beautiful atmosphere. My friend and I sat outside and had a beautiful view of the river and across the river. She had the fire bowl and liked it and ate it all. I had a cup of the tomato bisque soup and it was without doubt the best tomato bisque soup I have ever had in my life. Then I had a Caesar salad with grilled chicken thigh. The chicken was cooked, absolutely perfectly, not dry whatsoever. They didn't pull it out of the fridge. They cooked it right then and there it was beautiful and the seasoning was a perfect compliment to the Caesar salad our waiter was a little bit cool at first just kind of going through the motions but then as we got to know each other, he warmed up and he was very helpful and he was always checking in to see if we were doing OK. We ordered the risotto balls, margarita, pizza, and fries and a French 75. I ended up asking to be moved from inside to outside and they were very accommodating. Don't let the shopping center zip code fool you. We rolled in expecting casual. We got modern warmth, glowing bar lights, and bottles lined up like they're auditioning for a Netflix cocktail drama. The vibe was laid-back but elevated -- like your cool cousin who wears linen unironically. We started with wine because we're grown-ups who pretend to understand tannins. My wife: a crisp '22 Gundlach Bundschu Sauvignon Blanc -- bright, citrusy, and so good she ordered a second. Me: a smooth, fruit-forward '23 Land of Saints Pinot Noir that hit me with the kind of finesse I usually reserve for describing smoked brisket. Yes, we both doubled up. No regrets. Don't judge. Dressing came on the side, per my wife's eternal crusade against overdressed leaves. She declared it "refreshing." I declared it "not BBQ but shockingly enjoyable." For our main, we split the Margherita Flatbread -- San Marzano tomatoes, basil, and mozzarella arranged like edible artwork. Crispy crust, gooey cheese, and that sweet-tart tomato punch that made me briefly close my eyes like I was in a Mediterranean film montage. No extra toppings. No meat. And yet... it was perfect. (Yes, I'm a BBQ guy praising a vegetarian pizza. Put it in the record books.) We skipped dessert, but not by choice -- just too dang full. The only thing sweeter than the service was the realization that my wife was right. Again. Would I come back? In a heartbeat--and next time I'll bring friends so I can pretend I'm sharing while secretly planning to steal their meatballs. The Wagyu beef flank steak was not tender at all. The taste was good but personally I don't believe it was Wagyu! We had small plates. The shrimp was served with the heads and we asked our waiter, Matt, if the chef would please cut heads off before serving. And he said no, that's the way it is served. After asking to speak to the chef the prawns finally came out with no heads. I know it sounds petty but what was the big deal. The flatbread was delicious as well as the asparagus. Luma Bar & Eatery is in the river-adjacent site that used to be Dempsey's in Petaluma. It apparently was born as a plant-based restaurant, but has evolved into a pan-culinary experience that provides a rich palette of diverse, Mediterranean-influenced (but not strictly) cuisine. We went on a busy Father's Day brunch; the place was almost completely packed outside, but we were seated quickly and efficiently, with a bottle of still water right when we sat down. The waitstaff was moving briskly but pleasantly - we could feel the palpable energy even if they were having to work extra-efficiently on a busy day. Our drinks took a few minutes, and sugar/cream were missing from the coffee service (but a friendly reminder got things back on track). The food came within a reasonable time-frame, and was absolutely delicious. My wife's Farro bowl with the piri-piri chicken thighs was one of the best dishes she's tried in a while (other than my stellar eclectic home cooking, of course) - nutty, made with sherry dijon dressing, broccolini, asparagus, green beans, feta (which she skipped) radish, balsamic fig glaze, and pickled shallots. My Italian Beef Sandwich was unbelievably good for the genre - brisket (Chicago-style per the menu), swiss cheese, giardiniera, pressed focaccia, and au jus, with an option of salad or steak fries. I requested the Caesar instead - composed of little gems, boquerones, cotija cheese, lime, herbed gluten-free panko breadcrumbs, and guajillo chili oil, it was an amazing accompaniment to the meal, and they didn't charge us extra for the substitution. The food was spectacular, and sitting outdoors practically overlooking the Petaluma River was an outstanding experience. I do want to call out the service - the coffee glitches aside, the young server was friendly, professional, and on her toes managing what seemed like almost too many tables. I did learn that this restaurant is owned by the same phenomenal talent and person that runs the nearby Shuckery (with a sister-ly connection to the equally outrageous and awesome Oyster Girls) - she is wholly employee-focused and you could discern the difference between the servers here vs. other places - I got a sense that everyone was part-owner on some level. I didn't realize the connection until after we dined here, and the whole experience made a lot more sense - from the food to the service - after learning that Jazmine was in charge. (I believe Travis Day is, or was, involved - the greatness behind Thistle Meats.) Awesome place, and great to have yet another stellar dining option in Petaluma. read more

I came here for the first time and it was for valentine's day and they had a 7:00 pm open which thank God since other places were filled for the day and when we went there it was honestly a very nice place and the lady in the front was super nice! Our servers name was Chris and he helped us with our dinner and honestly he was super nice and told us what was the soup of the day and what they had for the couples dinner! My fiance and I got the steak frites (came with fries and a salad) and the sauces on the side was a very delicious ranch dressing and pesto and oml it was cooked deliciously. Although my only issue was that it took almost 40 minutes for it, it was so worth it. The place and ambiance was beautiful and everyone was so nice and friendly. The steak frites was $45 and our bill came to $99 dollars with tax (better than a whole steak for $70-$100) so definitely will come back for a special occasion. The drinks also looked great too! We were there for a short stop and late lunch but the Brussels sprouts and Brisket Flatbread were enough to fill the two of us up. Both were well seasoned with interesting spices and ingredients. Our only culinary criticism would be that the brisket flatbread should have more brisket. It was too sparsely adorned with sporadic appearances of the namesake ingredient. The pesto and cheese and drizzled basalmic fig glaze complemented things well but "Where's the brisket?" The flatbread was perfectly baked with a nice crunch on the edges. The sprouts had a very pleasant blend of sweetness in the glaze and spice from some chili oil. This would pair well with some more flatbread to mop up the sauce. With enough brisket this would have gone from 4 to 4.5 or 5 stars. Still a nice surprise to find. read more
