    March 20th 2026 we made a trip from the Bay Area to Petaluma to dine at Bijou, and it was absolutely worth it. From the moment we walked in, we were welcomed like guests into someone's home. The atmosphere is calm, inviting, and thoughtfully arranged, with well-spaced tables and a comfortable bar area that makes it an ideal spot for happy hour cocktail--something I especially appreciated since they honor happy hour at the tables as well. Bijou is led by Co-Chefs and Co-Owners Stéphane Saint Louis and Steven Vargas, who have created a truly memorable, approachable French-inspired dining experience. Chef Vargas was present during our visit and took the time to speak with us, which always elevates an evening. He and the entire Bijou team are personable, genuine, and down to earth--you can feel the care they bring to both the food and the hospitality. The menu and décor are understated, but don't mistake that for simplicity. Every dish we had was thoughtfully composed, beautifully plated, and perfectly executed. Flavors were balanced, seasonal, and never overworked--nothing was over-sauced or overthought. Each plate stood confidently on its own, and everything arrived at the proper temperature, which speaks to the kitchen's attention to detail. Our female server was knowledgeable and offered excellent recommendations that enhanced the experience. A special shoutout to Dan who clearly takes pride in ensuring guests enjoy their time. His knowledge of spirits and willingness to share his favorites added an extra personal touch. I've seen some comments about pricing, but I found it to be very reasonable given the quality of the food, Crafted Cocktails, service, and overall experience--especially for this level of execution in the Bay Area. I'll let the photos speak for themselves, but Bijou left a lasting impression. It's a place that proves you don't need an elaborate menu or flashy décor to deliver something truly special--just passion, balance, and genuine hospitality. Give the Bijou a visit, be present and enjoy what Chef Vargas and his team have to offer. Bravo Chef Vargas and Bijou Family well done and see you soon. Special note if you are a Chartreuse fan you definitely want to visit Bijou as they have a respectable selection which is rare to find.

    Great service! Mostly very good food, decent wines by the glass list. Dining room is modern, stark, full of hard surfaces. It gets noisy when it's packed. We went at 7:15 on a slow Saturday evening and after having popped in once or twice before when it was packed, we enjoyed the slower ambience much better. By 7:30 they had sold out of the house specialty, the Beef Wellington. I was fortunate enough to get the last order. Yeah, it was really good. Beautiful presentation, with golden brown pastry, beautiful even pink tenderloin that was well seasoned. Served with a small mixed green salad, dressed in a citrus vinaigrette that really cuts through the rich beef flavors. This entire dish is well balanced and is a stand out. The French onion soup was unfortunately only like warm. The broth was not 'beefy' enough. Shame because I love a good French Onion soup. The wife had a red pepper and tomato bisque which was delightful though. Bright, tangy, and visually stunning topped with an array of bright sauces. Wife ordered the steak frites, and I honestly enjoyed the quality of that cut over the Wellington, but I'm not normally a filet guy to begin with. The disappointment here though was the fries. They were under seasoned. A perfect golden brown on the outside, but inside was too dense, not soft and pillowey the way fries oughta be. Huge shout out to our waiter Danny who had great menu knowledge, and was a consummate professional. His service is what I'll remember most about the restaurant.

    Brunch at Bijou -- very polished, high quality, reasonable portions. Very tasty little salad on the side. It's nice to have a fresh salad instead of potatoes! Delicious hollandaise. Perfect biscuit. There is something about the interior that is a bit bland. I felt this at dinner as well. Like it could be in any hotel... if they add some art or something to make it unique and cozy I would visit more often.

    Came here for brunch. I will say for the price they should have SOMETHING come with the Benedict dish, a little salad, a couple potatoes. Somthing. We had the benny and bijou papa's and everything was great, the inside of the resturant is boring and nothing grabs your attention or excites you to be in there but the food is good. We have been waiting for TCP to restart brunch ever since their pop up during covid. Can't wait to go back and try the Duck Hash.

    Bijou Restaurant offers an elevated dining experience that is a great idea for date night or special occasion. On the recommendation of a friend, I made my way to Bijou for an early dinner. On the corner of a busy downtown Petaluma street, it is easy to miss. However, once inside, the dining area feels very chic and modern. With the early dinner, I was able to order from the happy hour menu which was quite reasonable! A lot of the main options came available in happy hour sizes at $10, which was a great way to explore their menu. Here is what I tried: Trout Dip (4.5/5): The trout was rich and creamy providing a perfect vessel for the light airy potato chips. Super delicious and would order again! Bijou Slider (4.5/5): A mini version of their Bijou burger which is essentially a smash burger with slices of bacon and generous cheese. Very satisfying bite. Only wished there was something to add a little bit of contrast since it was heavy. Butter Milk Fried Chicken (3.5/5): Rich chicken thigh lightly coated in a mildly spicy sauce. It was good, but not sure I would necessarily need to order again. Little Gem Salad (4/5): Freshly tossed salad which provided the perfect balance to all the rich flavors. Just the right amount of dressing. Boufe En Courte or Beef Wellington (4.5/5): Really enjoyed this! Light flaky crust enclosed in a well cooked beef slice with a mushroom paste to provide that extra saltiness and umami. The sauce was slightly sweet to provide some balance. Pavlova (4/5): The mixture of exotic fruits included just the right amount of sweetness and tartness. In terms of service, it was fairly busy so there was a little bit of a lag. But the servers were friendly and appeared to do their best to check in. Parking is limited in the immediate vicinity so you are likely need to circle around a bit to find something and walk over. Overall, Bijou was a wonderful dining experience especially for their happy hour menu!

    Very good food, ok service. My son (an aspiring chef) found this place while we were visiting. Made a last minute reservation for a Saturday night. When we sat down there was a vibe but I felt like we didn't belong. Anyway, we got the trout dip and parkerhouse rolls to start. Dip was really good. Fried capers were definitely something new. My son got the cacio de pepe and I got the pork chop. Bothe were really good. My dish came with a side of butternut squash that was unfortunately undercooked. Overall good experience, waiter could've been nicer. Everyone else was great

    Had a date night with hubby at Bijou Restaurant. This was my first time dining here. We had reservations made through OpenTable for an early dinner at 5pm. It wasn't crowded, which was nice. We were greeted by our hospitable server. She shared with us that Happy Hour was until 6pm. It was nice to know they have Happy Hours. She was helpful and attentive, and the service had an upscale feel. I tried the Gem Salad and Cauliflower Bites. They were both delicious. I also tried the fish of the day which was a Branzino. It was crispy and full of flavor. It was made exactly to my liking. The vegetables that were served with the fish were from local farms, which I appreciate. The Opera desert was a nice way to end the course. It had the perfect sweetness. For you chocolate lovers...this is a must try. They change their menu often. The dishes on the menu were different from the prior photos shared on Yelp. This tells me that each visit will be a new adventure.

    I wanted to love this place and hoped to live up to my expectations but unfortunately it fell flat. The service was wonderful! Greeted right away and our servers were attentive throughout the night. 5 stars to the wonderful staff. However the food was a different story. The worst dish of the night was the french onion soup. It was watery; no flavor at all and just so disappointing. The Parker rolls were delicious and paired nicely with the butter provided. We also ordered the Trout Dip which was great! Delicious and paired very well with their house made chips. I just wish the chip to dip ratio was more evenly matched. The steak was good! Not my favorite however but good to share. We also got a pasta but nothing to write home about. Overall, everything was just okay - food wise. Most of it lacked flavor and didn't wow me. For the price point I just wish it was better. Maybe they just need more time to get their footing or we went on an off night?

    I went for happy hour. Sadly I wanted to try the onion soup but they changed menus so I tried the Cobb salad and slider. So yummy!! It's good flavor! Great bar area so if u don't have reservations go to the bar

    Went to Bijou with some friends last week. They've been before and raved about it, and I have to say, it lived up to their hype! We started with their house potato chips and the burrata & fig salad. The chips were light, crunchy, and perfectly salty! The burrata & fig, with that delicious balsamic underneath was amazing. It was served so lovely with toasted crisps. For our mains, our table enjoyed a beef wellington, black cod, and pork chop. All were delicious! I tried a bite of my friends wellington - it was perfectly done and so good! The pork chop was amazing! It came with a creamed corn side dish that was also yummy. We splurged on TWO desserts - a pavlova and a chocolate dessert. I personally loved the pavlova, though both were incredible. Can't wait to go again when I'm in town.

    Being a lover of TCP, we were super excited to try Bijou! I understand that new restaurants have learning curves, so taking the long wait times for apps/mains out of the review as I am sure that will get better overtime. Decor, sleek and inviting, but not over the top! It is pretty darn loud inside even with the noise dampeners, so something to keep in mind. Space wise, adequate, so no issues on that front. I guess where the review starts to drift is the food sadly. We ordered the Parker Rolls & Cheese Fondue (The latter being the highlight of the meal). The rolls came with several hairs in it, which does not bother me, but definitely bothered my significant other, which we ended up just cutting that piece of the roll off and ate the others. Rolls were okay, but nothing necessarily to write home about. The cheese fondue on the other hand was amazing and honestly the best item of the night for us. Mains, we opted for the Steak & Fish. While the steak was flavorful, the quantity was meh for the price point. As for the fish, the quantity could of been much more and the flavor was pretty bland, and tons of salt added. Our sides for the mains were in the same realm...should have passed on them as they were nothing memorable. As for the drinks, our cocktails were good, but they only offer mainstream spirits, nothing local or unique. The wine list was quite odd and very overpriced for the offerings, not sure what happened here. All and all, not trying to bash one bit, just being honest that coming from TCP to this was a huge let down and really don't see myself recommending or returning sadly due to the quality, quantity, and price point of the food.

    As with many places in Petaluma, parking is an issue. The restaurant is on the corner of Washington & Kentucky. The decor is modern minimalist, so clean and bright. The menu is sparse, though based on local, available ingredients. I started with the house potato chips, which were very light and crispy. It comes with an Allium (onion) dip. Next was the pumpkin and butternut squash soup, this was creamy with a lot of flavor. The entree was the Cote du Pork with a squash ragout. The pork chop was large and breaded (didn't know about the breading until it arrived). It was good, and had a nice flavor, especially with the sauce. The squash ragout was okay, though a bit one note. I ended the meal with the ice cream cookie. A big chocolate chip cookie, warm, with a little vanilla ice cream, pistachios, & some other crunchy bird on it. Yum.

    Since moving to Petaluma, this might be the 3rd or 4th restaurant to go into this space. We've been to all of them, but Bijou is by far the best, in terms of food, wines on offer (both BTG and bottle list), and cocktail list. It's expensive, but you're getting TCP quality at a fraction of the price so it won't be a weekly thing for us, but rather an occasional splurge. Highly recommend grabbing a reservation. The bar is first come first served, but with only 6 seats, it'll be quite tough to get a seat without a decent wait unless you come right when they open. Most nights, I've seen openings around 8:30pm but if you want those prime hours, I didn't see anything available 2-3 weeks out for Friday or Saturday. The new space feels quite different to Easy Rider, which we always found a bit dark and really crowded. Bijou feels more open and much brighter - an improvement in my book. We sat at the bar - thankfully, a couple got up and left 5 mins after we checked in - and started with a Negroni. I mean it's pretty standard and the price isn't terrible ($14) for the Sipsmith gin. The peel cut into a parallelogram looks neat, but aromatically, since it was likely cut during prep, was a bit lacking. We started with a side of pommes frites ($8) and house ranch. They were soft and creamy on the interior, though not that crisp on the exterior. The house ranch is delicious - love the allium kick - but would've preferred just a simple aioli. The tortelli were delicious and the chicken jus "brodo" was so rich, complex in flavor, and full of umami. I think the farce was a mix of ricotta and some vegetables. Simple, but really delicious. The cannettes (duck - $38) came with slices of duck breast that were a perfect medium. The reduced jus was super tasty and the cherries added some nice acidity. The only thing that would've improved the dish would've been to have the fat cap on the duck rendered more and slightly more crispy. Not pictured were the accompaniments of potato dauphinois, which were so rich and creamy with a nice crispy cheese crust, and a delicious seasonal green salad. This paired brilliantly with their BTG Pinot Noir from Bennett Valley ($20), which had nice fruit but was quite different than the fruit bombs you'd see from Russian River. It was a bit more savory and had a really nice backbone of acid. You don't see too many Pinots these days at 12.1% abv. To close out the meal, we had the millefeuille ($12), which was insanely delicious and not too sweet. The pastry cream was nice and cool, smooth, and had a nice vanilla flavor and the caramel was perfectly salty. This was honestly super amazing and we'd come back just to get this again. Overall, a week into opening and yes there are some kinks they're still working out, but the food is killer and service (at least at the bar) is exceptional. All in with tip, this meal set us back $175. Still quite expensive for a week night meal, but the quality is there IMO. P.S., if you love oysters on the half shell, you can't beat the prices here. 1 dozen for $30 is unheard of these days and this isn't a happy hour price. Most places are pushing $4+/oyster so to have an option that is $2.50/ea is pretty great. They did run out pretty quickly so go early if that's your jam.

    Ambiance - I was flying solo so I was sitting at the oyster bar. The folks from Carmel started up…read morea conversation and we had a really good time before they left to have dinner at a friends house. Service - the gal behind oysters bar was very skilled, very informative, and kept the food comin'. She created I wish I could call her out by name but it wasn't on the receipt that was texted to me. Food - on a scale of 1 to 10 it was an 11! * Lemonade was had good lemon taste and just the right acid/sugar balance. I learned that a batch is made each day, and occasionally two. The best I've had anywhere in Sonoma County or Marin County! * I order the first three items on the oyster list (this time two of each) and came up with a new favorite. Then I added four more to the favorite. At 81 I don't do well on short term memory! I love that what was done so right was the lemon and the mignonette (sp?) sauce that was exactly balanced. The last restaurant in Ptown and two absolutely terrible with a red and a white. * Next I ordered a Shrimp Cocktail. They screamed fresh, perfectly boiled that let the shrimp flavor out, and again the red sauce was perfectly balanced between flavor and heat. Had to made in house. And they just nicely crisply cool, not in a cold place that overwhelms the flavor. I don't think I've every had one this good! * Next was a pair of fried oysters. I was prepared for some oily, bready things that would ruin all of the above. BUT NO, the perfect balance was incredible!! * Last was the clam chowder. I'm soooo fussy about this after growing up in the NorthEast (Connecticut) and 4 years of college in Maine blew this one away. It lacked the perfection and freshness of my East Coast standard. But I finished with the last of lemonade and all was well. My standard has never been "perfect." I don't meet that standard, so the chef shouldn't have to either. Hey, maybe he's never been in Maine! P.S. there's not section for this, because the above doesn't happen without OWNERS that create processes and hire people that and buy the best incredients. Kudos, gals!!

We got an additional dozen because they were so tasty. Raw oysters - Well shucked. Very minimal shell pieces if at all. Fresh clean tasting. The varieties we had were called Sweet Jesus and Kuushi. Mignonette was delicious, light & tangy but not overpowering. Baked oysters - my sis ordered one Rockefeller and one Miso. The Rockefeller was "ok" but the Miso was "absolutely divine". Braised short ribs - absolutely delicious. The mashed potatoes underneath was creamy and had a distinct cheesy taste. The meat was tender and flavorful. The greens brightened up an otherwise heavy dish. Linguine di Mare - very tasty. Pasta was well cooked and seafood was fresh and not overcooked. The accompanying toast (from local bakery/cafe Della Fattoria) was crispy and chewy and sopped up the cream sauce well. And that cream sauce. Absolutely amazing. Wish I had more of the toast to get all of that delicious sauce. Service - we did not have reservations but were seated quickly upon arrival. Everyone was friendly and attentive. Shout out to Wade and Scott. 10/10 would recommend, would come again. Delicious fresh food, great service.

The snapper has a lot of pin bones but otherwise really yummy bite. The rock wall in the alley creates a whole vibe with the lights and such. It is also one of the oldest walls in Petaluma, which is pretty cool. Slim menu but excellent. The restaurant is tiny, like 6 tables. Being on the patio was nice, more room. Our meal split 4 ways was delicious and filling but also light and sat well in our bellies. I'd absolutely come back again.

I ordered the scallops and my husband got the lobster roll and we both very much enjoyed our meals. Mine came with three large scallops in a light sauce on a bed of vegetables. There were a bunch of shaved carrots and everything really came together nicely! I saw a few other smaller parties relaxing on the couches with drinks. I appreciated the option of having a more low-key option to a sit down restaurant when I was having a rare night out with friends.

This place is request friendly but If the dj has the song/video, then maybe he will play it maybe not. Do no agitate the dj and say he his rude. He has a set he needs to play based on bpms. One patron kept insisting on a song and wouldn't stop. He wasn't drunk. Just a spoiled kid. He even had his friend ask twice. So please be mindful to not make the dj mad.

Definitely not a welcoming place ONLY because of the staff. People there were very cool to me and my friend, but as a female, the female staff were the absolute rudest possible. What an awful attitude and experience. Wow. I even had the real "pleasure" to talk to a couple girls that were there but off that night (employed there, sadly). Their pretentious attitudes wouldn't make it anywhere with any class... but apparently they get away with discrimination just fine. Outright discrimination and bullying. I won't describe here why, but ladies... if people there talk to you... they won't like you, because you take from their tips?! Apparently. The female bartenders I met are horrendous bullies. They seem like they never got out of high school. I literally cried there. Yea, not cool as a grown woman. Shame on them. So my kind message to them... if you want better for your lives and are THAT miserable to treat a human being or any life that way, DO better. Just do better for yourselves, and for the sake of others.
