First, it is great that it is open on Monday nights when many other restaurants are closed. Most importantly though is that the food and service are excellent, plus the blue and white interior is lovely with linen napkins! Ali, our server and part-owner was so nice and extremely accommodating. We could not eat everything on the menu and will return to try more things! We loved the fava bean and pita starter and then shared moussaka and the kefta entrees. Both were excellent. My husband liked the Greek wine and I asked if they had a Turkish yogurt drink (yran) and Ali went back to the kitchen and provided this off-the-menu beverage! For dessert I asked if they had my favorite Turkish dessert, kunife, and Ali went back to the kitchen from where it magically appeared The chef is Turkish and the other co-owner is Greek. There was an event across the street when I visited Mezzeluna on a Saturday evening. The restaurant just opened and someone was already inside eating but the front door was locked. My host opened the door and I opted to sit outside as it was a beautiful day. Lamb shanked is Mezzeluna specialty and that's what I ordered. Unfortunately, my hostess didn't bring me a wine list but said she will grab one. Despite the mixed up, she was really sweet and complimented me on my wine selection. The lamb shank was fork tender and cooked perfectly with a nice gravy over mash potato. If I'm ever back in Cotati, I will go back to try out some of their skewers and hummus. read more

I've eaten here many times over the years, and it's always been a great experience--until this visit. Unfortunately, this experience was disappointing enough that my friends and I won't be returning. I ordered the dolmas, and they were clearly microwaved, which was surprising and not something I've ever experienced here before. The quality was noticeably off. I also ordered my usual dish, but was told it was "different" this time despite having the same name, which added to the confusion and frustration. On top of that, the service felt rushed and inattentive. If the kitchen or staff was unable to provide the usual quality, I would have preferred that to be communicated rather than receiving subpar food and service. When Santa Rosa Grill closed, this became my go-to spot--but after this experience, I'll be looking for a new Middle Eastern restaurant. read more

Came here after work to welcome a new employee. It was fairly busy for a Wednesday. Luckily, they were able to accommodate the 5 of us. It has a nice, rustic vibe inside with a nice patio area. Bonus, they have their own parking lot. We ordered baba ganush, hummus, saganaki, grilled octopus and a salad as appetizers. I was pleasantly surprised that they have gluten-free pita. That grilled octopus was divine. It was so tender. Several of us ordered the lamb chops which, while very tasty, they only give you two for an entree portion. We visited on a Friday around 5:30 during Restaurant Week. When we arrived, the indoor dining area was empty, but we were told we could only be seated outside without a reservation. I'm assuming all in door dining was set for later reservations. Our host made a comment that we may want to order soon "before we couldn't," which felt like an odd comment to me. As the evening went on, the restaurant did fill up, and we noticed other walk ins also being seated outside. Our appetizers came out quickly, but our entrées were a different story. There was some confusion with food being brought to our table that wasn't ours, and we watched several tables seated after us receive their meals first. After checking in around the 45 mins, we were told orders were coming out in order, although that didn't seem to be the case. Total time took an hour for our food to arrive. What we ordered: Appetizers Tzatziki served with warm pita bread ($10) Grilled octopus ($28) Entrees Alexander ($29) Lamb chops ($35) All of the food tasted good, fresh, and took me back to my recent trip to Greece. My only complaints for the food is that my main dish, the Alexander did not look appetizing. For dessert, I really wanted my parents to try kataifi but unfortunately they were out. They generously made up for it by bringing out complimentary baklava for the table which tasted delicious. Overall, the food itself was good but the service could use some work. I'd try this restaurant out again with reservations and hopefully on a weekday. read more

I checked the menu ahead of time since they're vegan and saw a few items that appeared suitable. Once we arrived and confirmed with our server (who was absolutely delightful), we learned that some of the menu indicators were incorrect -- the pita and a few other items are made with butter. We shared this with the owner, who was very receptive and mentioned plans to explore butter-free pizza options in the future, which was appreciated. That said, the food was delicious. The falafel was perfectly crunchy on the outside and moist inside. The hummus was incredibly creamy, and I especially enjoyed the spicy version. My son loved his chicken kebabs. We didn't have room for dessert this visit, but I've had their baklava and Turkish coffee before and highly recommend both. My dining partner ordered the lamb chops. She loved them but wished that she had been served more. She's not a big eater so that tells you a lot about the portion. I ordered the moussaka, which was tasty. It was a large portion. I took half of it home. We tried to order baklava but they had run out. We were comped an order of rice pudding. I don't recall the last time I had a dinner as delicious as the one at Mezzeluna tonight. And to top it off, there was a pleasant setting across from a cute park, excellent service, and reasonable prices. Hidden gem? Yes! We stayed in Rohnert Park on our visit to Sonoma and booked a table at Mezzeluna for dinner. We like Greek and Mediterranean food and eat it often, but this small Cotati restaurant surprised us. We had dolmades, feta and roasted pepper dip, and a fava bean spread for meze, with warm pita bread. For our main dishes, we ordered moussaka and barramundi. Each dish felt fresh, light, and full of flavor, made with just the right amount of spices and oil to highlight the main ingredients. The only disappointment was that, after generous refills of pita to accompany the outstanding meze and main dishes, we had no room for dessert! :) Cotati isn't a touristy town, but it's worth visiting just for Mezzeluna. read more

Plate presentation was good, appealing. Preparation was very homestyle rather than fine dining and I mean that as a compliment. Rich and deep flavors. Unctuous mouth feel with the mezze, the braised meats. Even the pita was fluffy and wholesome. Even though the table was overcrowded with 8 platters we managed to finish almost every last bit of food. There was a 1/2 cup of braised lamb shank meat left which we brought home. Dining room is simple. Clean, bright and welcoming. Chairs are comfortable enough for a long sit down multi course, multi-hour meal. Servers are friendly, helpful and happy. We brought an expensive bottle of wine from home. Corkage is $25 which I think is an outrageous charge from a family run humble restaurant. Highly recommended! We haven't enjoyed a restaurant this much in a long time. The chef's specials are absolutely amazing--honestly even better than what we had in Greece. We loved it so much that we now come every Wednesday as a family. Being able to request special Greek dishes from the chef in advance feels like a truly private and personalized experience. My partner & I have been here 3-4 times before this recent experience. All of our previous experiences have been great. Lunch here is especially good (the gyros rule!). We went for a dinner recently & had a pretty awful experience. Their "breakroom" area is entirely open to the dining area. There is a space for doors, but they're simply not installed. So I could see someone chilling on the couch the entire time, which was sort of a weird vibe. I wouldn't really care much if it were a cheaper spot, but you're expecting to pay $100+ for 2 people here. So it's just kind of weird and unprofessional in my opinion. I don't know if this is temporary or how it is there, but it struck me as really odd considering there was very clearly once a door there. We started with calamari, which we had before & thought was pretty good in the past. This time it seemed undercooked, soft, & rubbery. It was honestly kind of gross. The server seemed nice, but as other reviews mention here, the server seemed unattentive. She forgot our order & came back a while later to confirm what we had ordered. She then came back again & said our food was on the way. After a little while longer, she came by a third time and said "This is taking really long... How about free dessert?". It's a nice gesture, but one that didn't really feel like an apology or anything. It felt like we had to have dessert there now, when we really didn't want to be there anymore. it felt sort of pushy to resolve a matter that she (or the kitchen staff) caused. We waited a while, the resturaunt had cleared out of most other people by the time we got our food. The entree's were good, but the experience was sort of soured. To add insult to injury, my parter woke up sick with stomach issues resembling food poisoning. She feels like it could be the fish she had or maybe the calamari, which i can vouch definitely seemed off. Probably not going back. I'd like to think it was just a bad day, but it wasn't particularly busy in the resturaunt & I don't really know if there's much excuse for our experience, especially for the $$$. This place isn't cheap! There are just so many objectively better options around here in the price range. read more

We ordered 2 chicken souvlaki plates for LUNCH and it was TAKEOUT and the total came to $70.56 We were shocked at the price since the menu (not on Yelp) on their own website said they were $26 each. Thought it was a mistake and was overcharged. Called and nope, the price is wrong online and the dish is in fact $35 each. Absolutely outrageous for what we got as it wasn't that much food! The chicken was good but the salad was brown and dismal. The white rice it was served with was likely minute rice with no sauce or flavor. No tzatziki sauce either despite saying so in the description. Definitely not worth $70 FOR LUNCH!!!!!! This place was more reasonable when we tried it the first time but never again--we will not be back! Hopefully they don't price themselves out of business. For those looking for similar cuisine in the area, try the Real Donor in Petaluma. Been going there for years! Bigger portions and much more reasonable prices! Good customer service would have honored the price on their website (see pic) and refund us the difference. That's how you keep customers! So enjoy having a local Greek restaurant! Brought friends because we were raving about it but the service was so disappointing. We had a very nice young man but his heart wasn't in it...had to ask numerous times for extra pita, water and beer, only to have these items brought to the table after the meal was served (& finished). The hostess was absolutely wonderful and filled in with serving utensils, water and the bill and just about everything else the server didn't. The appetizers were wonderful... had their 3 dips (babaganoush, hummus and fava dip), falafels and shrimp toast (such great flavors). We shared 5 entrees- branzino, lamb shank, meat moussaka, vege moussaka and souvlaki mix. All dishes were good except the souvlaki mix was dry and difficult to chew. We also decided to try out their new dessert option, Katmer. The flavor was good but execution lacking. No flaky puff pastry crust, only a soggy oily crust that needed a knife to cut through. Dubbed the City with a Heart, Cotati is a tiny city located in Sonoma County. We were on our way to Rohnert Park and stopped by to meet up with others at Mezzeluna. The bright colors of the restaurant's charming interior transported you to Greece. It was such a nice day out that the outdoor patio was perfect for lunch service. Our waitress was attentive and helpful. We shared an appetizer of warm pita bread, which went perfectly well with the creamy, well-seasoned hummus (not pictured). I kept lunch light and ordered the Greek salad. The cucumbers were crisp, the feta cheese was fresh, the chicken souvlaki was tender, and entire salad was flavorful.
