Awesome owner/chef! Food was fabulous! Be sure to make a reservation or you will miss out!

The food was mostly very good. The service was sub par. The environment was smokey and loud. The owner is very friendly and passionate about his craft, which I respect. When I sent back my fish for being overly salty he told me that they don't add salt, only lemon zest. This was such an obvious lie, I considered it insulting. The wine list was well curated, and all the wine I tasted were delicious. The meat and cheese appetizer was huge and incredible quality. Excellent pairings on this board. Especially the Humboldt Fog and Honeycomb. The server forgot to put in our order for French onion soup, which is not only my favorite, it's also one thing I've heard was particularly good at this restaurant, so I was really looking forward to it. I felt an enormous letdown when we waited for 35 mins between our appetizer before our entrees came out with no soup. There was no quality check to see how our dinner was. Instead I waited for 15 mins till someone came by to ask me if I wanted a box for the salty fish I didn't eat. I can tell the owner cares about his business and he tried very hard to be nice about it. I appreciate his efforts, but this was an anniversary dinner for my wife and I. It left me thoroughly disappointed. I would go back and give them another shot, but honestly, given the embarrassing wealth of great restaurants in town, I'm not sure I will return any time soon. read more

Oh La La‼‼‼ Having grown up in French-speaking Montreal, I do find great & AFFORDABLE French cuisines are hard to come by. THE go-to benchmark dish for me is: the French Onion Soup (Soupe à l'oignon française) with lots of fromage gruyère Crispy toasted baguette pieces inside, that's French soup food at its best! The escargots were delicious, along with lots of other genuine French yummies. However, THE best part is the Chef Owner who's always there to greet the customers in an open kitchen format. And on an average of $55-$80/person along with a Petaluma scenic backdrop, what can be more romantic. read more

We had a wonderful French dinning experience without flying to Paris. Friendly service but not overwhelming. Table side beef tartar and tiramisu were fun to watch and super tasty. My favorite will be the black cod and baked scallops. Tender and layer of taste. The owner/chef will put the final touch on each dish, great quality control. The place is not big which is good to feel like going home or an old friend's place to meet for dinner. Most of the customers were returning customers. We will for sure be back! read more

Wow, what an experience all the way around! Petaluma is lined with many restaurants but Brigitte Bistro and the staff take the cake. We held our most recent dinner club here and it was the perfect setting. It was intimate, the waiter was super knowledgeable and shared his favorite dishes and the chef Nick came over to our table a couple of times to ask how everything was. We had the Humboldt Fog Goat Cheese Little Gem salad to start along with the french fries. Both were super tasty and had great flavors. For our main we had the scallops - so good and the presentation alone was phenomenal and the prime rib special with pasta on a toasted brioche bread. Just writing that is making my mouth water. We ended with the Chocolate Fondant for dessert and couldn't have been happier with all of our selections. We'll definitely be back and highly recommend this for anyone near Petaluma! read more

When looking for a restaurant this evening I came across Brigitte Bistro. This is by far is the worst and oddest restaurant that my husband and I have ever dined at. When reading the one star reviews they all echoed exactly what occurred when we at there Valentine's Day 2026. * The wait staff was very surly and did not fill water glasses or attend to finished plates. Tried to bring dinner entrees and cram them on the already space challenged table. * The owner kept coming by the table and butting in on our private conversations. * My husband got the beef bourguignon which honestly was very good. It ended up being both our meals after the dish I ordered , the lamb shank arrived tasting very salty and very tough. I know my lamb shanks as it is my favorite when cooked correctly. It should fall off the bone and not taste of heavy salt. It was uneatable. We were just going to put it to the side and deal with it after we shared my husband's dish. The owner though came marching over and demanded to know if something was wrong. We politely told him it was too salty and was hard to cut. Holy Smokes !! He yelled at me and said, No it is not! I simply said, yes it is. He made a big production of taking the plate and March through the restaurant yelling and slammed it down in the counter. After that we just wanted to get the hell out of there! We paid and went right to the car. Mind you we still tipped 20% as we did enjoy the beef dish. The owner came charging out to our car and I was in the drivers seat. I did not wish to roll down the window but did. He wanted to shake my hand. I did not want to shake his hand when we came into the restaurant (guess I was lucky that he did not hug me. He was throwing his arms around everyone all night that walked in!) and I certainly did not want to speak nor touch him again when we finally got free of there. The only thing this restaurant provided us was a story to tell others about how odd the experience was and how terrible the food and owner were. read more

The service was impeccable. I found the waiter to be warm and helpful. The ambiance was well done with a live pianist. The food is what should be brought up. It was delicious and varied. We started with Steak Tar Tar. I had the Duck La Orange, I found it rich and elegant. My wife raved about the scallops. And, my son had the steak which he devoured. We finished up with the creme brulee and chocolate fondant. The dinner was memorable. read more

I love how they have all the dishes that I would order at a French restaurant! It's the first in my book of French restaurants that they have it all so we ordered everything that we typically order and then some! We were seated at the chef's counter. It's a cozy, modern and open dining space with a fine piano on the corner. French onion soup had a special red wine tanginess to it that I liked. Pate had a nice texture and a good bite that one doesn't find elsewhere usually. Steak tartare - they mixed the ingredients, freshly, table side. It was a bit too overpowering on the mustard. I couldn't really get to the taste of the meat. Escargot was of pure buttery goodness and a bone marrow, below, was a pleasant, complimenting surprise. Most of the garnishing was of parsley flakes. I think some of the dishes can be topped off with something else. It'll add a different spin to things - food for thought. Beef bourguignon was meltingly tender and homely. The sauce, made this entree, a winner. The pearl onions are sliced into the sauce and not wholly visual. The duck confit was a bit dry, but I did find the scalloped potatoes, a delight! They pour the sauce at the table, which added a bit of fine dining feel to this dish. It also takes extra effort to make scalloped potatoes - one should note. We added gratin as an extra side since my husband, Pierre, likes gratin and one doesn't come across that often in French restaurants. It was too creamy and I thought it would be more of a standalone with a touch of creaminess in between as well as brownish spots on top, to give it some warmly baked color. I didn't care for it, but I'm not a big potato fan to begin with. Extensive wine list to choose from. Servers were attentive all throughout our dining experience. They are winning on their desserts! Their pistachio tiramisu is also made in front of you and it was so decadent. They freshly shave chocolate on the tiramisu and I like the interaction with our server. The simple twist to the traditional tiramisu, with the pistachio flavor, made this dessert an appealing dessert to get here. Chocolate fondant was oozing with chocolate and fudge. It complimented well with their sea salt caramel ice cream. Fantastic new addition to Petaluma! Chef takes a lot of pride and has passion in his cooking as one can tell. He is present and overseeing the open kitchen lineup. He greeted me with a signature French kiss on my hand and I was surprised as I didn't know that was his motto. During dining, I noticed that he has his own cookbook and the front cover is his name, stating "kissing chef," showing as one of his displays in the kitchen overhead decor. That explains his kiss. I was amused. A very promising French restaurant for the city of Petaluma! They were already fully packed at 5p on a Friday. Go here before it becomes so established and then impossible to make a reservation! read more

OK they say "welcome home" when they great you. Our table was not ready and as we waited they brought us glasses of sparkling. Service food and ambience is fantastic. We had fish, beef and steak plus some apps! All were great! I have no complaints. Get off your ass and go here period! read more

I was excited to try Brigitte Bistro outside downtown Petaluma as I had heard nothing but rave reviews since they opened. I visited on a Tuesday evening and had a reservation and was sat quickly. The restaurant wasn't too busy at 6 p.m. but seemed to get busier as the night progressed with almost every table being full by the time I departed. I immediately noticed it was rather warm in the restaurant on a hot day and there were a lot of flies throughout.  The server greeted us and wasn't the most welcoming. We then proceeded to order drinks followed by appetizers and then dinner. I ordered the Humboldt Fog Goat Cheese Salad, which came with the goat cheese on a crostini. The salad was good, but nothing to rave about. I also ordered a side of bread as well as my main entree, which was the maine scallops with sunchoke chips in a beurre blanc sauce. The scallops were well sized, but I did leave the restaurant still a bit hungry. I also found the restaurant a bit small and crowded and hard to hear.  Overall the experience was a 3 out of 5 and nothing too memorable food, service or experience wise. read more

This fabulous authentic French restaurant deserves double the space! Everything from beginning to end was masterfully crafted and served-- Our food was incredibly delicious! For starters, we each had grandma's escargot and split a salad Lyonnaise. The escargot came with freshly toasted, baguette, drenched in baked garlic parsley butter with tender pieces of baked garlic, topping a carefully placed piece of toasted baguette. A slight variation request to the lettuce was expertly taken care of. For the main course we split the Beef Bourguignon and Onion soup Gratinee. Flavors were authentic, fresh and mouthwateringly delicious. We quickly came to the conclusion that anything on the menu will be excellent! A bottle of sparkling water was the perfect accompaniment for a non-drinking night. Our server had a witty and engaging sense of humor, making a point occasionally showing us what we were missing in the dessert department as it passed by. Tempting as it was, we were too full. What we WOULD HAVE ordered was the Floating Island, composed of fresh cream. Definitely check this dessert out! Service was fabulously warm and friendly with genuine loving embraces and gratitude for our visit as we laughed. We will definitely come back and recommend. I definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone who enjoys French authentic French cuisine or just wants to try something different. Petaluma is lucky to have this gem in their corner . Note: during our visit the room was a bit smoky. There seemed to be a problem with the kitchen fan, but it is not worth detracting any stars from this experience. A small parking lot adjacent to the restaurant holes about eight cars. Beyond that, you might have to park on Petaluma Boulevard or across the street. read more

Food - Very pricy. The escargot was delicious. Service was alright. The server wasn't in the greatest of moods, and a little off putting when the server was standing in the corner of the place watching everyone. Place is small and cosy. I did have to make reservations ahead of time. It was a hot day in June. Some flies were around, so that was a little off putting. Single restroom next to the front door. The people next to us did have a fish sole dish that I didn't see on the menu, and we did up waiting a little while for our meals. All in all, glad I tried it, but it wasn't the best experience I had wanted. read more

We eat out a lot. Maybe a bit too much. But this is one of the best meals we've had in recent memory. We were welcomed when we walked in the door and it just kept getting better. Luke waited on us and he was exceptional. The menu has everything you want and nothing you don't need. We've been to three Michelin star restaurants and I honestly believe the meals we had here were superior. The artistry from the kitchen was first rate and the quality lived up to the first impression. The wine list is outstanding and the vibe of the restaurant was very lively and neighborhood-ish. It was about an hour's drive for us but I can't wait to go back. Merci beaucoup for a first rate evening!! read more

Eating out has become frustrating. As much as one likesto go out and eat ; what we get is not as good as it used to be. First time we went to Brigitte it was just strayed and food was good. Second time the waiter was putting on French accent and brought a wine more expensive than the one we ordered and insisted we had ordered the one he brought! Food was at best mediocre. It's all a big business and making as much tips as possible; I'm sorry to say. read more

I'm sooo impressed by this newly opened neighborhood French restaurant! We booked the reservation at 5:15 pm on a Friday. We thought it would be early for dinner but the place is packed already. I really like the bright dining area. The staff is super friendly. We were sat by the bar where we can see the magic happened in the kitchen and met the chef, Nick! Escargot: It's my #1 escargot!! I've tried this in many places and lots of time I felt it was a little overcooked or too greasy. This here is cooked just right and I love the greens floating on the butter that goes so well with the bread. Pate: it's not what I expected because I always thought pate is more like a mousse texture. The pate here has meat chucks and pistachios and just much interesting and flavorful. Have a bite with the pickles on the plate is like heaven! Onion soup: I like the soup is more clear broth with tons of flavor. A lot of time the onion soup is too rich for me but the soup here just hits the spot! Salad Lyonnaise: I've never tried a soft broiled egg on a salad. It has bacon bits and everything together tasted just amazing! Duck confit: This dish is loaded with flavor. The duck is tender, the mushroom sauce pouring over together with the potato is beyond words. I highly recommend it!! We asked the chef, Nick what's his favorite and he said he can't pick one. Now I totally get it! I'm definitely looking forward to coming back to try different dishes each time. read more

I have eaten at this restaurant several times since it opened. The food is always delicious and I enjoy the attentive service. The restaurant is very small and noisy. Not enough parking spots in the lot outside. So be prepared for that if you're going. French onion soup was amazing. Steak frites was frankly not very good. Steak was overcooked, and the meat was pretty tough. The sauce w the steak was just ok--I would have really liked it if they offered bernaise or bordelaise (seems odd they didn't). Fries were crispy, but I didn't enjoy the amount of salt and rosemary on them. Desserts were very good. All in all a decent French restaurant, but not worth the hype. Nothing special. read more

For elegant dining in a casual atmosphere this is the place to be. Fantastic French cuisine and a wonderful host in owner/chef Nick Ronan.

Wow! Just, wow! We came in with a large group, 20ish. We took up most of the space in the restaurant but the staff handled it perfectly. Attentive, accurate and friendly. The food was killer! We tasted through most of the menu, chicory salad, lyonnaise, leeks, steak tartare, ahi tuna, bread, pate, I have the beef Bourguignon and it was fantastic and a generous portion. Not to mention every dessert on the menu... chocolate cake with the sea salt caramel ice cream was stupid good. Hands down will be back if I find myself in Petaluma again. Bravo read more

Had the best time at what I affectionately call it singles awareness day or season of hearts. Was a late reservation and service was great. What I love about this place is they don't rush you through the meal and everything is made to order. I came on to post a review which I don't normally do and found a negative review about the Valentine's Day meal so had to post my experience. Last night I found laughable is I was sitting at the bar area after a fabulous meal of their filet special. Someone complaining the steak wasn't a filet. What I find laughable is it was the end of the meal that I was observing. If I was set at steak in front of me that was not a filet , I would have flagged the waiter down immediately. This person felt the need to leave a negative review which compelled me to say this is not the case from what I experienced. I found it funny also that if someone felt the need to review the horrible meal , why is there not any pictures. And what did you take home off your plate that wasn't the toast? Was it the cauliflower purée ? Truffle sauce or the stringy meat? Just curious ? Cause in our experience if you are honest and up front about any issues with meals here the staff/owner have alway been accommodating. read more

The staff was wonderful and the ambiance was okay. We were a party of 10. The service was good no significant delays. The food, on the other hand, left me unimpressed. I had the sea bass. if it would have been cooked properly it would have been good. It was overcooked and a disappointment. The potatoes and the sauce were tasty but a little over salty. My wife ordered the Wagyu Steak. As I understand it this should be either from Japan or grown properly here. Honestly it was no where close to the beef I have eaten many times in Japan. It came with fries that were lukewarm and overcooked. My sister-in-law had the duck and while I didn't taste it my wife did and said it was the best dish on the table. We also ordered the french onion soup and it was great. The meat and cheese board wad excellent and my grandsons Mac and cheese was fantastic. We didn't have dessert as the appetizers and main course filled us up. Based on the prices on the menu and given that the restaurant was in sort of a crappy side of west Petaluma I would say it was overpriced. The average main dish was $40, appetizers were $18-20. The mac and cheese was $18, come on guys. At these prices the food should knock your socks off, it did not do that. I don't think I will return even if my brother inlaw pays again. If someone's review says you either like this food or don't know how to appreciate french cuisine I would be at odds with this person. It is not up to the Sophies in this world to tell us what we like or not. I've been to France countless times and know how to appreciate good food. I will give the restaurant the benefit of the doubt but stand by my review. read more

I found this restaurant on google, I had never been there before, I love to try new restaurants since I just moved to the northbay. Well, we arrived and we went in and we were greated and taken to a small table for two. The entire restaurant was less then half full. Then the waitress arrives and since we were not given a menu, I assumed she would give us one. The first thing out of her mouth was, do you have a reservation? I said no and before I could respond, she said well I need you to sit at the counter. I got up and walked out of the restaurant while i stated loudly, I will never come back to this place again, you just lost two customers. First even without a reservation, why did they seat us at the front of the restaurant? They should have asked at the door and if they would have said do you have a reservation we would have said no, does it matter? and then we would say we were sorry and we would leave. Yet they decided to treat us very badly. The behavior is really bad, and there were not customers coming in during that 15 minutes of shame. We then left and continued straight up the street to a very nice barbeque place Lombardis. The chicken and the Tri tip was perfect, and we really enjoyed the dinner. We even took home a bunch of food. I am sure that we would have paid more at the rude restaurant. We usually spend alot at restaurants. But my advice is to ignore the comments here praising them. They need to learn better behavior. read more

I really hate leaving reviews like this, but after three separate attempts over the course of a year, we're at the point we will not be back. This happened on Valentine's Day and our anniversary, 2026. We had a 9:00 reservation and showed up 5 minutes early. After a brief wait, we were seated. We got the same waiter that we usually get, the guy's fine, but service is always slow. We're fine, understanding that it's very late on Valentine's Day and we understand the ramifications of going out on a holiday. I ordered the Humboldt fog goat cheese salad, and my partner ordered the french onion soup, as usual. Both were delicious, I ate half of my salad and wanted to box up the rest for another day so I'd have room for my entree. The waiter eventually stopped by and inquisitively asking was my salad, Okay? I said yes, it's delicious. At 10:00 p.m., a full hour after being there our entrees were served. My partner had beef bourguignon, And I ordered the special, which was petite filet with cauliflower puree And truffle. I ordered it medium rare. (Now let me interject something here, the couple next to us...I heard them ordering from our same waiter. He ordered the steak fries, and ordered medium rare. The waiter responded with, medium? The man then said medium rare please, and the Waiter said medium? He then turned to the woman to take her order and the guy said medium rare. I don't know how his steak arrived, I heard him mention that it was good.) Back to my supposed petite filet. What arrived was two small chunks of meat on top of a round piece of toast swimming in an ungodly amount of sauces that were were very overpowering and this was supposed to have truffle and I didn't taste any truffle or smell any at all. When I cut into the meat it was medium to medium well with barely any pink in the middle (I ordered medium rare ) and it came apart like a stringy roast. Now I only eat petite fillets for a steak choice in a restaurant. It's my favorite cut. I ordered it all the time. This definitely was not a filet. In fact, it was the same meat and texture as a beef bourguignon my partner had. I tasted each of them and it was exactly the same. One was just cooked more. My partner loved the beef bourguignon and the onion soup. I tasted the soggy toast underneath my meat, it was not good, I did not eat it. I ate about half of the "special meat", It just wasn't up to par for an $88 dish. Overcooked and not the piece of meat that I ordered. (I'm just going to go ahead and go on record here saying I was raised on a beef ranch. I'm well aware of what a filet is) The waiter, Jean Luc, never came by to check on us after we received our entrees. He never offered us a second beverage even though both of our glasses had only a swallow left in them, When our entrees were brought over. He never came by and filled our water glasses but went to other tables around us and filled all of their water glasses. A employee came by and took our dishes away and asked if we wanted it boxed up and I explained that yes please, The stuff on the left of the plate I would take, but not the piece of bread on the right. Now here's where things get fun! And, yes, I'm being facetious. Our check was dropped, still never offered a refill and beverage but tried to get us to buy a dessert. Soon the chef and owner walks by, and ask if everything is okay? My partner says yes and I nod my head and smile. Chef gets three steps away and then dramatically pauses and turns. Comes back to the table, pulls out a chair and sits down across from me, uninvited, and then starts bullying me and goading me about the food. And says, " what is going on Here?" My response, "what? " "What is wrong with the food?" he asked. I'm floored right now. I cannot believe he's even speaking To a customer in this manner. My response, "what are you talking about?" He says "the food, What is wrong?" I said, "you want me to tell you what's wrong with your food?" He said" yes, Tell me" . I said "okay, I'll tell you about your food". And I attempted to explain how the meat was subpar and overcooked. He asked me to repeat it and when he did he abruptly jumped up from the table. Laughed at me, threw his arms in the air and yelled goodbye! In a restaurant full of people, on Valentine's Day and on our anniversary. I have never encountered such a situation where an Establishment owner comes over and asks my opinion several times, unsolicited, And then gas lights me and throws a back in my face. What a foolish, emotionally immature jerk. That shit might fly in Red Hook, Brooklyn, but it does not fly in Petaluma, California. I will never be back...
