Desserts- vanilla bran ice cream and fromage assortment

Enjoyed dining at Poppy! Greeted by a delightful Frenchman from Carcasonne and had wonderful service. The favors and textures of dishes were a delight. Started off with delicious amuse bouche toasts, then fresh bread/butter, asparagus with buratta and a green salad. For entrees, the gnocchi was wonderful and the boar sugo rich and flavorful. We then finished off with their vanilla ice cream topped with a lacy cookie and cheese plate. Needless to say, we're coming again...perhaps on a rack of lamb night.

Made reservations for Saturday night since we had family and friends that were here last time but Poppy wasn't up then, and we decided to commit to trying this place out for dinner. Parking can be a bit rough as the back is shared with USPS, and side street parking can be quite busy. By the time we arrived, most of the parking was already gone so we had to park a street away even on a night with plenty of rain. Upon arrival, there's a small bench that's right below a small heater where you can wait. My gf and I decided to head on in a bit early and were able to get seated. The inside had really modern decor and looked to have a capacity of seating 15 parties of 2-4 per group. It was a very large space but it felt very comfy. We ordered the duck liver terrine with bread and butter, chicken dish, trout, and scallops. The entrees were very delicious s the butter and duck liver terrine were so tasty. They had mentioned it was fresh bread but it came out tasting cold. I wish they would have warmed it up for us to eat. We also ordered the escargots which were very rich in flavor and went well with the same bread. The trout dish my gf ordered was very delicious. It was on top of this mash potato gravy and some potato fritters. It tasted amazing. I didn't get to try the scallops but it sounded decent. The chicken dishes were the worst part of our dinner however and why I'm rating it a 4. Despite it being recommended, it was the most confusing dish that came out. The chicken itself was fine but didn't have any taste besides a well cooked chicken. I wish it had some saltiness or savoriness to it because the rest of the dish did not deliver. It's served with this orange colored sauce, pomegranate seeds, and the most bitter red cabbage. The orange sauce was really bland and didn't add anything to the taste, pomegranate seeds were really sour, and the bitterness of the red cabbage definitely did not help. Overall, it was a fine dining experience. Everything was great up until we ate our chicken dishes. Would love to try their other dishes but definitely avoiding the chicken if we were to come back.

Absolutely obsessed with this restaurant. Service was incredible, I cannot emphasize how wonderful of a time we would have had just because of the service alone. The food was on another level!! I feel as though Glen Ellen restaurants are always hidden gems and poppy is definitely one of them.

Should any restaurant get five stars? I've only given five stars once and that was to Enclos in Sonoma. Most restaurants strive to perfection rarely do they achieve it. The ambiance at Poppy is modern, comfortable and immaculate. The one caveat I might mention is to request a both when making your reservation. The wooden tables in front of the kitchen engender a different experience. The ceilings are high and the room isn't crowded allowing intimacy and conversation among guests. It was my daughter's 32nd birthday so we brought a cake. The hostess was so kind and enthusiastic when asked if they would provide cake service. " No problem, we would be delighted". The gesture was greatly appreciated but don't overlook the dessert menu! We also brought our own wine, one of my dad's favorites. It's a birthday tradition. The corkage fee is $20 which in my experience is extremely reasonable. This is especially notable in that they have a fine selection of wine by the glass and the best that California has to offer by the bottle. Our waiter, a wine maker in his own right, knows his wine and is glad to discuss your choice. From the greeting as you enter to boxing your lest overs, if any, the service is in the top 10% of what I've experienced in the valley. Knowledgable, friendly, genuine and attentive. Now to the main event, although I would come back just for the ambiance and the service. I'd seen in the reviews notations that you had to pay for bread! But you're not paying for bread you're paying a bread service. Yes I agree they could do better on the bread since Les Pascales is down the street, but the bread is server with a variety of accouterments that make it special. We chose the French ham which I understand they cure themselves which I found a little salty for my taste. But I must caution you only a bite or two or you won't have room for your meal. For the main course my daughter had the short ribs and I had the pork loin. The sort ribs were seasoned and cooked to perfection. I'd say falling off the bone but there was no bone just tender, moist ribs. She allowed her dad a taste ( a small one!) and I concurred with her evaluation. My pork loin was moist, delicious and tender on its own but what made both our entrés a culinary triumph was the mastery of the chef. Both dishes were surrounded by texture, color, sauces and vegetables that made these two dishes memorable. The best in recent memory. In summary we are lucky to have Poopy as a choice in our local cuisines.

Peaches with burrata and pistachios. Very good appetizer.

Three of us came to the new Poppy restaurant, which took over the Fig Café venue, for a birthday dinner. We brought a bottle of wine, which they happily decanted for us. Our group started off with the peach mozzarella and pistachio appetizer. It was very delicious and it was a perfect size for the three of us to start off our meal. We then shared a butter lettuce salad. The lettuce was so crisp and fresh and the avocado dressing was delicious. For our plats, two of us had the short ribs. We both absolutely loved it. It was done in a way that we had never seen before where the meat was braised and the edges were crispy with a flavorful sauce. There was a little side frisée salad on the plate as well. It also came with a small ramekin of potatoes, which were so delicious. That entire dish was wonderful. The third-party in our dish had the Lassen trout, which was a good sized portion. It had pinkish flesh. The price for that dish was appropriate I think. However the price for the short ribs, I believe, is overpriced. We ended our dinner with coffee and chocolate mousse. They brought the mousse with a small little candle, lit on it for the birthday girl. The mousse was actually inside of a pastry shell which I didn't really care for, however, the actual mousse was smooth and very tasty. I'm just not a big fan of the pastry outside of it. Customer Service was superb.

From the moment my group walked in we felt welcomed and very comfortable. Cameron, our waiter, was wonderful: seemed genuine and friendly and very attentive to every detail. The food? I will go back to try more items, but the escargot and the gnocchi Parisienne were to die for! New local favorite.

Ok. Noted. Now we are with Gerardo... He tells us we "get to" taste these wines and we ask for the white burgundy skipping the viognier. Other clients are tasting the sparkling which we just got an email about so we ask and he says we are getting an extra pour. Ummm we'd like to try before we buy is that a crazy expectation? And so we continue on. Meanwhile the other bartenderis offering other people side by side of the barbera and the upper ridge barbera to taste what they like...not us. When I commented that I do enjoy French champagne he said it's made in the same style and he has a bottle at home that he might drink for New Year's. Ok cool. He had zero wine knowledge. Didn't tell us much about the wines. And wanted us to purchase but was limiting our tastes and experience. Another couple arrived who noticed an error on their invoice and he could t figure out how to correct it and had to enlist the help of someone else. The final straw was we asked to taste the rose and he said it's not open today but then we saw other folks try it from the same fridge. Very odd. Didn't feel like there was a benefit to being in the club. He closed with telling us he needs to go to lunch so what are we buying? I've been here many times before and enjoyed the patio and the inside table with the fireplace and cute gift options. Today he made me question whether I would return. I don't think that the wine industry is doing really well so an experience like this is very off putting.

You have to make a reservation for a tasting. Each tasting is $30ish per person and well worth the price in my opinion. It was my brother's third time visiting here and my first and I could see why he continues to go back. The porch has a beautiful view of the vineyards and the mountains. They are very dog friendly and brought a few treats and a water bowl over for my brother's dog. The service was excellent. The wine tasting was comprehensive and enjoyable. We even got to try one of their reserve wines that was off menu and that was probably my favorite (and also the most expensive, of course). We both enjoyed the Knight's Valley wine too that was on the tasting menu - I think I'm remembering the name correctly. Our server recommended a few other wineries and restaurants to us and she even gave us a coupon for a complimentary wine tasting at another winery if we purchased a bottle there. Overall, we really enjoyed this visit to Arrowood and would certainly recommend it to anyone else who is in wine country for the day.

The restaurant is intimate and polished, but what stood out most to me was how elegant everything felt without ever becoming stiff or overly formal. It was refined, creative, and clearly very intentional, but still deeply enjoyable to eat. The meal opened with a wild chamomile milk punch that was floral, silky, and so refreshing. It set the tone right away. From there, each course felt carefully composed, with flavors that were layered, balanced, and often surprisingly memorable. The spiny lobster "roll" croustade was such a fun and delicious bite, with sweet lobster tucked into a crisp shell and a brain emulsion that added a rich briny depth. The venison tart was earthy and delicate, and serving it on antlers made the presentation feel dramatic and playful at the same time. The duck liver and key lime pie was one of the most unexpected combinations of the night, but it worked beautifully, rich and silky with just enough brightness to keep it lifted. Even the fermented rutabaga bread pudding with 100-year balsamic was intriguing in the best way, savory, gently funky, and deepened by that concentrated sweetness. I also loved how strong the seafood courses were. The amberjack with quince, shiso, pluot, peashell, and agave felt clean, delicate, and very precise, with each element bringing its own kind of freshness. The Miyagi oyster was bright and refreshing, with wasabi and passionfruit adding a lively kick. One of the most creative dishes of the night was the clam "chowder" custard, essentially a silky chawanmushi topped with clam chowder, caviar, white asparagus, and aged pork. It was luxurious, comforting, and so thoughtfully done. The 60-day dry-aged tuna belly rice bowl was another standout, rich and buttery, but balanced with passion fruit, peach, and citrus so it never felt heavy. The meat courses were just as memorable. The Wolfe Ranch quail was deeply savory and aromatic, with grilled rose and burnt citrus giving it a beautiful lift, and the tortellini brodo alongside it added warmth and a comforting depth that made the whole course feel especially complete. The Masami Ranch beef course brought so much dimension, from fermented pepper and carrot to charcuterie and a magnolia-smoked rib, with each bite feeling more savory and layered than the last. By the time dessert arrived, the kitchen still had not lost its momentum. The dessert presentation was beautiful and exceptional, and the final courses felt elegant, detailed, and fully in line with the rest of the meal. Nothing felt like an afterthought. Service throughout the evening was polished, attentive, and gracious, and the pacing gave each course room to shine. Enclos feels like a restaurant with a very clear point of view.
