This was, without question, one of the best meals we've ever had. From start to finish, everything was impeccable. We sat at the chef's counter, which made the experience even more special because we were able to watch the entire team bring each dish together. We ordered the surf and turf special, the pasta dish, and the Brussels sprouts to start, which are an absolute must. Every ingredient tasted incredibly fresh, and you can tell a tremendous amount of care goes into every plate. What stood out just as much as the food was watching the owner and chef lead the kitchen. Even during busy moments, he remained calm, respectful, and supportive of everyone around him. Seeing that kind of leadership and professionalism behind the scenes was genuinely refreshing and added to our appreciation of the experience. Dessert was the perfect ending to an already incredible meal. We tried the vanilla ice cream and strawberry sorbet, and while both were delicious, the vanilla ice cream was the standout for me. We also had another dessert that was fantastic and beautifully executed. The atmosphere is charming, cozy, and unpretentious. You can come dressed casually in flip-flops or make it a special night out. Either way, you'll feel right at home. The location is also great, with a local bar just around the corner if you'd like to grab a cocktail afterward. The service was exceptional, warm, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. With a seasonally changing menu and such a strong commitment to fresh ingredients, I honestly can't wait to come back and see what they're creating next. What a wonderful surprise! We visited Glen Ellen for a little weekend getaway and never expected to discover one of my favorite pizzas in such a small town. Honestly, everything we tried on the menu was delicious, but the most memorable dish was definitely the pizza. The Margherita pizza was absolutely incredible, paper thin crust with the perfect amount of chewiness, topped with just the right amount of cheese that practically melted in my mouth. Our 7:30 pm reservation didn't quite line up with our original table being ready, but they kindly offered us two high-top seats overlooking the kitchen instead. The space is small, charming, and was buzzing for a Sunday evening. Our waitress was incredibly warm, she walked us through the entire menu and took great care of us all night. We shared the Brussels sprouts, a white pizza pie, and the Wagyu. The pizza was delicious, and the Wagyu was cooked perfectly medium rare. I especially loved the charred greens served alongside it. Locals dinner with a generously comped corkage fee - we brought a few bottles of Pinot which were vastly different from one another but each quite solid in their own way. The winner of the evening was the 2021 Domaine de la Côte 'Memorious' Pinot Noir. The Neighbors Night special at Glen Ellen Star, in Glen Ellen, CA this night was a first course of wood fired rock shrimp, stone ground grits, puffed sorghum & chive oil complimented with a second course of deliciously wood roasted duck leg, creamed kale and glazed baby carrots, fig leaf glaze. The freshly baked and crusty Sourdough Focaccia with roman spice, house cultured honey butter, and castelines noir d'olive was delicious and we closed with the wood fired Sticky Toffee Cake, with Pecan almond nougat, caramel sauce and a side of vanilla maple bourbon ice cream. We had the brussel sprouts, wagyu zabuton and the hot salami pizza. The brussel sprouts were cooked to perfection and the sauce was so delicious. The wagyu zabuton truly melted in your mouth! Wow! We had a good family dinner here as our last dinner in Sonoma. It has been on our list to try for a while, so when we got a 7:45 pm reservation we jumped at the chance. They did not have a child menu, but our two kiddos loved the custom cheese pizza with red sauce. As adult starters, we had cauliflower and the late winter greens salad. My preference for salad dressing is more of a vinigarette rather than goat cheese, so I did not enjoy the salad as much. But cauliflower was interesting. I ordered the benzino, and my husband did the steak as our entrees. Not sure if it was the anticipation, but for me, the palate experience was okay. But fancy selection of wines. GPS sent us through Trinity/Dry Creek Roads from Yountville where we were staying...30+ minutes of continuous narrow, winding roads with nowhere to pull over to get your sh*t together. My hubby took me here for my birthday yesterday. It was raining but we braved the rain! We started off with the roasted Brussel sprouts and celeriac bisque for appetizers. The bisque is so good! It's comforting. The Brussel sprouts has more bacon bits than the veggies which is probably good for others but it was overpowering for me. My main was the whole branzino which is great! Love the flavor and it was cooked very nicely! My husband had the 9oz wagyu steak and he enjoyed it although he said it wasn't that great for the price. I do not know why it's taken me so long to get to Glen Ellen Star. I have been missing out. I finally ventured here with my daughter for restaurant week. $60 for a starter, entree and ice cream. We arrived about 10 minutes to 5 o'clock, so were able to park in their parking lot. It's not that big, but there is street parking. You're greeted by a hostess outside that checks you in and brings you to your table. The restaurant has a refined relaxed vibe - dress casual or dress up. Wood fire cooking technique is used for their California inspired dishes. Produce and meat is sourced locally, their wine is local too. We had Brussel sprouts (brown sugar bacon marmalade) and crab deviled eggs for first course. Creole smothered grilled pork chops ( mole rojo, late winter succotash & pecan crunch) and clam pizza ( white sauce, mozzarella, shaved Yukon gold potatoes & clam relish) for second course. Choice of ice cream for dessert ( vanilla maple bourbon and pear cardamom sorbet). We also decided to order off their regular dessert menu and tried the coffee cake (vanilla Chantilly, caramelized gravenstein apples). We loved everything we ordered. The quality of the ingredients is apparent ( so fresh). Our server Alex was fantastic- giving recommendations and telling us a little bit about the highlights of the restaurant. Great find in Glen Ellen. A little off the beaten path, about 20 minutes from downtown Sonoma. The restaurant appears to be a renovated home. Very cozy. We sat outside and it was private and the space heater provided and lap blankets kept us warm. The device was fantastic and even got a visit from the manager to check on our experience. The fall salad was so unique, we really enjoyed it. My wife is gluten-free and the gluten-free pasta was on point. We will defiantly be back. read more

How did I not know about this place until now! In branching out and trying new places, Glen Ellen Star, 2025 Michelin Restaurant, caught my eye. So glad we decided to try this spot. It's absolutely amazing. We had the head of Cauliflower to start with. Amazing flavors. The brussel sprouts looked fantastic as well. The table next to us raved about them. The sourdough focaccia is a must add item as well. For mains, I had a cut of meat you don't find too often, wagyu zabuton . It was melt in your mouth yummy. My wife had the whole branzino, which I might need to get next time. It was that good. The setting is magical as well. So many nooks and cranny's with the main kitchen and smaller indoor/outdoor rooms. Rustic and wonderful. They also have Neighborhood Night. This is where the chef tries the new menu items. My husband and I loved the dinner we had here. I made a reservation to sit at the Chef's Counter which was a fun experience. It was cool to have a front row seat to the action in the kitchen. To start, we had the Brussels sprouts with the most delicious candied bacon. For our mains we ordered the wagyu zabuton steak with cabbage, and the whole branzino. The fish was good - the ube yam puree was interesting and paired nicely. The steak was the true star of the meal. Perfectly cooked medium rare, tender, and flavorful. Also the trout roe buttermilk on the cabbage was so unique, I absolutely loved it! It was my birthday so the restaurant gave me a free scoop of ice cream in a to-go container at the end of the meal which was a nice touch. Came here while in Sonoma for a wedding but it also happened to be my husbands birthday & what a wonderful birthday dinner it was! The food & service was splendid. They started us off with a complimentary glass of wine, before moving into food. I had the strawberry salad which was absolutely delicious & my husband had the branzino that had this delicious mix of plantain, pineapple, & olive which he said was to die for even though he isn't a fan of olives. We both split the pizza made out of what they said was a 14 year old sourdough starter pack & it was a perfect blend of spicy & sweet & tasted just as good when we ate it cold later on at our hotel. By the end of the meal, we thought we were full & ready to go but they surprised my husband with their homemade vanilla maple bourbon icecream with a candle for his birthday just when we thought we couldn't be more impressed. It was our first time in the Sonoma area & we were thoroughly delighted to have enjoyed this farm to table meal as one of our first! & the wonderful service was a cherry on top! read more

We had the poppy seed cake for dessert since we went there for my birthday. It was good, although nothing really wowed me. The service was excellent and they were very attentive. I would give the service here 5/5. There is not a lot of parking around the restaurant. The biggest complaint was that they are only open from 5pm-9pm and it's very busy and crowded. Every table fills up quickly. They have tried to monopolize on every space they possibly can in this small restaurant, which left me feeling like I was a number jammed packed into a small room. There are two rooms you can dine in and patio seating next to a main road. We were seated in the corner of a room right next to a loud table of 3 people with tables all around us, which made this dining experience feel claustrophobic. There is only one bathroom for this entire place and the pathway there is narrow so it feels like you are dodging other customers or waiters to get there and back to your seat. My recommendation would be to get a table outside if possible if you go here. You will hear road noise, but will be a better overall experience. read more

My boyfriend and i shared their frog hollow stone fruit and halibut tartare to start and they were both wonderful and refreshing. The pineapple tamarind coulis that the tartare was served with was especially mouthwatering. I got their Hawaiian BBQ brick chicken for my entree, it had a crispy pineapple coconut rice cake on the side which was so delicious. Despite living in the area, this was our first trip out to the beloved Glen Ellen Star with some out of town friends. Right off the bat, parking is very challenging in the area. They have a small lot, but it fills up quickly and it isn't super clear where you can park on the main street, while still having a car to return to after dinner. Leave yourself at least 10-15 additional minutes for parking. The restaurant has a couple of different dining areas. The main dining room up front feels quite cramped and as a result, it was also quite loud and at times, difficult to hear our server or hold a conversation. The menu is small, which isn't a bad thing - I love when restaurants choose to do fewer things well rather than throw together an insane menu (like Salt and Stone, for example), so my hopes were quite high on the execution front. Service at Glen Ellen Star was phenomenal - definitely the highlight of the evening. Despite being fully booked, our servers and bussers were quite attentive. We brought in wine to enjoy with dinner ($35 corkage with one corkage waived per purchase off their wine list) - the wine service was great. They always checked on the temp of the bottles and offered to chill them down as needed. Only minor complaint was lack of Burgundy glasses for chard/pinot. Unfortunately, the food just wasn't that special and without hesitation, I could name 5-6 other restaurants in the area with better food at better prices. Just as a couple of examples: (1) We had a caviar special which was a small potato rosti topped with creme fraiche, a small dollop of caviar, and chives. What arrived was a horrific mess - the potato rosti was quite soggy and oily and the creme fraiche melted into a pool, taking with it some of the caviar and chives. This is an example of something excellent in theory but just absolutely gone wrong in execution. (2) We also had the panzanella salad, which of course is all about the bread/croutons. In a traditional panzanella, they use dried/stale bread but crucially, it is rehydrated with a combination of dressing and tomato juices. We definitely had the dried/stale bread part of it, but it was next to impossible to chew so we ended up just eating the rest of the salad, which was actually pretty good. Sadly, the entrees didn't get much better. The best part of the meal was the tomato cream pizza, although even that had it's flaws. The dough was way too overworked, which made for a very tough, chewy crust. I want to reiterate that the service was exceptional all throughout the evening, but the food just didn't deliver. Given the price and painful parking situation, unfortunately, Glen Ellen Star just won't be top of our list for a return visit. read more

Personally, not sure if I'm used to Japanese Wagyu or not but their American Wagyu was too chewy for my liking. Felt like I had to do extra work for what should be a good cut of meat. The presentation and flavor were ok. I liked the green garlic hash brown tho. Truffle pizza is where it's at!! Crispy where it should be with cheesy pulls and that truffle aroma - delightful. I chose this restaurant as we were looking for somewhere nice to celebrate our 25th anniversary. It was nice, with good service and an intimate atmosphere. However, the food was disappointing. The service was helpful and we ordered a salad based on a recommendation--it had watermelon and seeds and was a combination that was fresh and set us up with high hopes for the main course. For vegetarians, there weren't many options, and I wish we had just ordered sides and saved room for desserts, as those looked very good. My pasta dish had an odd mix of items that added texture but not flavor. My husband had a pizza that was undercooked. He is not one to complain, but toward the end of dinner, he said that he was having a hard time cutting the slices. When I had a bite, I noticed that the crust was pale, and that the perfectly thin potato slices were somehow not fully cooked. I only took a bite--it was a shame that he didn't say anything, because evidently a mistake was made in the kitchen. Photos I see here have blistered crusts, and his looked half baked. If I rate solely on music, it was the top playing my 80's playlist. So thank you! The place has limited seating so Resy reservations are recommended. The main dining room and bar seemed comfortable if not crowded to some (and may be loud depending on crowds). We ended up in the covered outdoor tables versus outdoor patio counter due to our booking. With the cool weather, they provided heaters and even blankets so that's a nice touch. We started off with a Cream of Parsnip soup. It was creamy and I didn't care for the hazelnuts with a soft crunch that I didn't think helped. The Savarin cheese tortellini was a nice touch. The special Short-rib tortellini was flavorful but cooled down more quickly seated outside. The Whole Branzino was disappointing with the mash spread overtop the whole fish and overpowering the fish itself. Some may take issue with the fish head, but I'd take a baked or crispy skin fish over the baked potato version of the fish. Service was pleasant but not overly accommodating. The table beside suggested the dish would be accompanied by bread for dipping to sop up the sauce next time, and the server just said then order them both. Humor your patrons sometimes. Mixed bag. This is a small limited seating spot and reservations are a must but I've been so wanting to enjoy this Michelin star restaurant for a while. Very difficult to get in but was able to score a spot! The food! Limited menu but ordering a few items to share is the way to go! The brussel sprouts and focaccia are a must must must! Extensive wine list is available some by glass and some by bottle. We had the roasted carrots, Brussels and focaccia to share to start and a margarita pizza and brick oven chicken for meals. A lovely Pinot noir to go with dinner. Dessert you must have the ice cream whether straight up or affogato! Delicious! Open your wallet but relax and enjoy this lovely restaurant! Staff is more than amazing! So if I would have known that "outside seating" meant in the parking lot right by the street on fake carpet.....I would have e chosen inside or chefs table. Very disappointed! read more
