Had a great dinner last night at Red Grape. I started with the Gorgonzola salad lots of pecans, grapes, and fresh Fuji apple slices. The garlic bread was spot on, and the Chicken Fettuccine Alfredo was absolutely amazing rich, and perfectly cooked. Service was excellent. I was greeted right away by a very friendly hostess, and the overall atmosphere had a really nice vibe. Comfortable, welcoming, and just a great place to enjoy dinner. The waiter warned me that the street corn pizza had a kick and I should have listened. However, it was delicious and the crust was so thin and crisp! Sweetness from the corn, sauce, and the creaminess from the cheese worked perfectly. Spice from the serranos punched my tastebuds awake. I'd recommend asking for some of their homemade ranch in the side which balanced it out perfectly. These truffle onion rings were sweet, crispy, and aromatic. The smell of truffle and heat from the fresh fry immediately hits your nose and sense as you raise them to take a bite. Quite possibly some of the best gourmet onions rings I've ever had. They may be a bit oily but the way they're fried doesn't make them feel heavy. We had a bit of a long wait but the staff were friendly and accommodating. Outdoor seating is very nice, especially weather permitting. Our service afterwards was also sublime. The staff work efficiently and are also quite funny. Ambiance is spacious and clean with a nice patio with no availability when we arrived. The service was okay. The food and drinks were okay. -Strawberry Margarita: 2/5. Their margaritas are canned seltzer drinks and it tasted artificial. Dust Bowl was the brand and we didn't finish either one. -Sonoma pizza: 3.5/5. The flavor of the sausage, pepperoni, mushrooms and onions was delicious IF you got a balanced bite. Unfortunately the toppings were not equally distributed and the crust wasn't evenly cooked (half was GBD and the other half not) so getting a good bite every time was impossible. The crust is thin and flavorful so the potential is there but it missed the mark this time. I would try one more time and hope for better else would go elsewhere. read more

We stopped in for our final dinner of our anniversary trip to Sonoma. We needed something low key but still slightly elevated. We got just what we needed at The Red Grape. We started with the Gorgonzola pecan salad, and my hubs got the local California lager on tap and I got the local Three Fat Guys red blend 2022. Delicious. We then shared a tasty pizza--half Hawaiian and half sausage/mushroom. Crut was crispy and somewhat thin but not cracker thin. Still had a delicious doughiness. It tasted "chalky" and was not thick enough to support what little toppings there were.The toppings were unevenly distributed, plus there was way too much cheese and both pizzas were soggy with grease. After staying at the Fairmont for a combo baby moon and 10 year anniversary, we decided to go here for dinner. We were really excited about the inclusion of some notable Connecticut pizza connections here and hoped it meant the food would be good. We had a long wait to order despite being only one of two tables filled in the restaurant. Our waitress was very uncertain about the menu and didn't have answers for our clarifying questions on some items. We decided to just go simple and order the margarita pizza to see how they do on an unfussy classic. When the pizza arrived, I thought for sure someone was pulling a prank on us. This thing was literally like a matzo cracker pizza. In fact I've had better pizzas on literal crackers before. Not only was the "crust" dry and brittle, but it was also flavorless. The toppings were very lackluster and even just the presentation of this dish was underwhelming. I definitely thought with a location like this basically in the Sonoma town square, we were almost guaranteed to have a good meal, but this definitely proved otherwise. One of the best things crust pizzas I have had recently!! The restaurant is large with ample seating. It is decorated modern and sparkling clean. The staff is very attentive and efficient. My wife and I came to explore Sonoma today for something different. After walking around the downtown area, we wanted to explore some local places to have lunch. We searched Yelp and although there were several highly popular restaurants, we chose The Red Grape after doing a deep dive into there reviews and pictures. We were seated fast and ordered. Sandy was our waitress today. I had the Chicken Pot Pie and my wife had the Gorgonzola Salad with candied pecans. This restaurant is very large and has outdoor seating. Good dinner last week at the Red Grape. We had Salad Nicoise with Salmon and Short Ribs. The salad was LARGE, and though not a "traditional" Nicoise, it had great ingredients and dressing. The short ribs were "meaty" and tender. We usually get a booth because they are less exposed to some of the big parties that sometimes get a bit boisterous. The Red Grape was recommended to a group of us celebrating a 50th birthday, and although it is serviceable, I can't say that it was what I was expecting. Since it's on Sonoma Square, I thought it would be a bit more upscale, but the laminated menus and lack of cocktail options felt more like a chain restaurant. Our server was wonderful: warm and welcoming and very efficient, but I couldn't help but notice that everyone else working there seemed to be dragging. I understand that serving tourists makes a hard job even worse, and I'm not criticizing the servers--instead, their low energy seemed to point toward a restaurant that is getting pretty tired. My food indicated just as much: the salad was topped by salmon that was fine, but my salad was just romaine lettuce and some over-ripened and mushy grape tomatoes. Everything just seemed thrown together and without a lot of care. I chose the Dough Bowl, and it was good, with a nice drizzle of olive oil that accompanied the salad well. Three others at my table said the same about their food (pasta, pizza, and the watermelon salad): it was fine. We were promptly greeted and sat at a boot for 4 people in the back. The vibe was good and it was a comfortable temperature and atmosphere. With regard to the food, we thought that it tasted a little lacking. I ordered a pepperoni and olive pizza with extra sauce (glad I asked for extra). Wife ordered truffle fries. She described the fries as just okay. The pizza tasted fine but it lacked the pizzazz that would put it over the top. I would say having thicker crust options would be a great idea for this menu. Our friends ordered the street corn pizza and spinach and artichoke dip. They mentioned the pizza was good but not great and the spinach and artichoke drip was decent. Perfect spot for a kids lunch. Good friendly service. Food is your typical diner quality, with pizza, salad, and burgers. Kids menu is thoughtful, with entrees at ~$10 + $2 for a cup of fruit. Grapes are thoughtfully cut in half so there's no risk of choking for the smaller kids. Adults menu had a variety of options, and it was easy to simply walk in for a late Sunday lunch, though you can make a reservation online if you prefer sitting in their well-landscaped back patio. We picked up a couple of pizzas at The Red Grape to bring to a friend's house for lunch. It's tucked away on a side street off the Sonoma Square with indoor and outdoor seating. We sat and waited for our pizzas and watched some amazing looking food come out of the kitchen - lots of gorgeous salads and cones of fries. I can't wait to go back and eat there. Both pizzas we got were wonderful - the pear, Gorgonzola, bacon and hazelnut white pizza was delicious. Regardless, they seated us by the door, and we spent the entire meal listening to it slam shut as staff constantly rushed in and out. I was told I couldn't order what I wanted because it was six minutes before the start time, even though I would have gladly waited those six minutes (and should have). The food we did order came out lukewarm, or at least mine did. It made me wonder how long it had been waiting to be served with the other... probably six minutes. Their tomato soup is to die for - pair it with the garlic bread for dunkability/increased deliciousness. It can get loud during peak business hours - dinner at an earlier time slot has decreased that overstimulation for me, and parking is also a bit easier then. Service has always been friendly and professional. My only (very minor) gripe is the occasional chicken pot pie special that takes long enough to cook once ordered that none of us have ordered it, for fear that our dinner will come after everyone else in our party has tucked into theirs. They feature excellent salads, pizzas and 'American' food. We had lunch there recently. Louise was our waitress; a total pro, helpful, but not obtrusive. Made sure our glasses of water and Iced Tea were kept filled. I had Short Rib with mashed potatoes and green beans/mushrooms. It was the best short rib I've ever had; huge! This updated review is more about the hygiene. The food is still very good and the service is okay. Still reasonable ambiance. They have a disgusting fly problem now though. I counted a dozen flies in the kitchen area. Landing on plates, food, drink cups, etc. Flies land on dead things and feces prior to going after our food so it is not a pest you want near food. Didn't see any effort made to get rid of them. Plates with food ready were left out for minutes prior to be taken to tables with flies going on the food. I know it isn't possible to keep every fly out of a building. But over a dozen? Very disgusting. read more
