Literally taste like the cooks went to the ocean and caught a fish for you, prepped to perfection. Super fresh, nothing crazy, just made and prepped to perfection. I'd come here if you're craving casual top tier seafood. My favorites are the grilled fish plate, ceviche and poke. Although I didn't order this time, last time the fish and chips I got was probably the best you'll ever have. Mill valley location is a great vibe and much more comfortable seating.
First, I will say that parking here is a little bit crazy. I had to loop around a few times and finally found a place nearby. This is a hip area with surfing lessons, coffee shops and of course Hook Fish. I came here with a group, after a hike at the Tennessee Valley Trail (a beautiful hike to a beach, probably 1-2 miles away). At Hook Fish, you find a table, get in line and order your food with your table number. They bring it over (quickly!) and you get to people watch for your troubles. The dishes were a heavy mouthful, but delectable as expected. It feels East Coast West Coast to me in nature, but all pure goodness. The fried fish I had was crispy and tender, and the nachos and poke were fresh and crunchy chipped. We left with tight belts. I'd plan ahead or come prepared to hunt for parking, but it was a fun stop otherwise, especially for a friendly gathering with some solid grub.

This was a cute and tasty, casual fish restaurant! A small group of us went on a sunny Saturday afternoon. It was busy and lively (but not overly busy), and we enjoyed sitting outside on the large patio. In general, everyone enjoyed their food. I ordered the poke plate, my boyfriend ordered the two piece fish and chips, and we shared a half dozen oysters. The oysters tasted great (I thought they were briney and complemented well with hot sauce) but were small and probably not worth $4 per. I loved the flavor of the poke and the plate was a generous serving size. My boyfriend liked the crispiness and freshness of the fish and chips, but said there wasn't anything particularly special or standout. Our friends ordered various versions of the tacos and liked them, but they looked difficult to eat (small taco tortillas with heaping toppings!). There isn't much to mention for service since this restaurant does a line order, but it was interesting that waiters consistently tried to drop off the wrong food to our table. Otherwise, our actual food came out relatively quickly despite the lunch rush. I wouldn't go out of my way for the menu here, but it's a great stop for people biking through town or heading up north from the city!
4 -- Good Food, Cool Vibes & a Little Habanero Surprise Hook Fish in Mill Valley definitely seems to be a popular spot! We only waited about 15 minutes, but I heard some people were waiting 1.5 HOURS So I guess we caught them on a good day... or somebody upstairs really likes us. The energy here was pretty cool. Families, pups, people hanging out--it had that laid-back, "I'm just here to eat good food and enjoy the day" type of atmosphere. You really can't go wrong with that. Now, if you're doing keto like me, they're not exactly the most keto-friendly spot, but I was able to make it work with a salad and grilled fish. The vinaigrette was actually pretty decent, while the crema? It was giving... absolutely nothing. Definitely needed some flavor. The carrot habanero hot sauce was decent too, and honestly, I wasn't digging the whole dish. Was it the best thing I've ever eaten? Nah. But a friend invited me out, and I wasn't about to sit there complaining about free food. That's just rude! I'm sure their tacos and burritos are where the real party is happening, but I'll have to find out next time. Overall: Cool atmosphere, friendly vibe, decent food, and definitely seems worth checking out. Just be prepared for a wait if you catch them during the rush!
We went during labor day weekend so this was so busy but we ended up only waiting for about 20 minutes for a party of 2. It's nice because most of the restaurant is outdoors so it's dog and kid-friendly. I don't think the food was anything incredible to write home about but a solid meal for a good price for the area and good beer selection too.
Their food was so good I had to go back and get another fish burrito. I loved their Baja style fish burrito, which comes with a fried fish filet. Their food tastes very fresh. Order takeout in advance, wait times can be around an hour. We ended up ordering takeout and eating at a nearby table.
Cute outdoor area m. I got the rice place for the fish of the day and that's only $2 more than the tacos. Tacos were big but you only get 2 and for the amount of veggies and rice you get on the rice plate, I'd say it was so much better but that's just preference
I had Fish Hook before in San Francisco and got to try this location and the food is amazing! I got the oysters, the ling cod fish plate, and black cod tacos and my favorite is definitely the ling cod plate. The ling cod is one of my favorite fish they have there and the rice and the tomatoes on the plates are delicious!!! I wish the staff here are more friendly and the food can come out a little slow, especially on the weekends. The staff mentioned that we would have to wait for 30-45minutes for the fish and chips so I didn't get it and I wish I could if I didn't have to wait that long. But overall I really enjoyed coming here for fresh fish options and a great place to come with friends!
We went back and I liked it even more! This time I got the poke plate which was a pretty generous serving that came with rice, beans, and cabbage. There was also a side sauce that all three of us used and enjoyed. The service was extremely friendly and efficient and even though it's mostly order at a counter and self-serve, they helped me with my elderly mother get seated and comfortable. We ate outside on a cool rainy day under the heat lamp and it was very comfortable. I will definitely be back.
I've been to the SF Hook Fish location, so it was great to visit another spot of theirs! It's more spacious with more seating -- with most tables reserved for dining, but there's other seats where you can just sip and chat with friends while drinking. We decided to dine, so we placed ourselves on their waitlist. They have a store and garden you can walk around while waiting, but they were closed when we went. So we just ordered some drinks and enjoyed the environment while chatting with each other. We didn't wait too long and got seated quicker than we thought. After sitting, you line up to order at another part of the restaurant. They have a selection of the types of protein they have available so you can order it in your tacos, burritos, etc. Our orders came out in a couple of minutes. I split a Cod Burrito with my boyfriend, and it tastes great with their Habanero Carrot sauce. But be careful, it can get quite spicy. We also ordered their Ceviche as an appetizer, and it's a great portion to share between 2 people before eating the main dish. I always enjoy the food I order from Hook Fish!

They bring the food to you! You will have to go to the bar to order drinks. We ended up getting the fish of the day tacos, chips and ceviche, and fish and chips. They have this housemade carrot habanero sauce on every table , and I was incredibly intrigued by it. It tasted super good! Not too spicy for me (I consider my spice tolerance pretty high). Fish of the day tacos - pretty good! There was a lot of flavor in the grilled fish. I definitely prefer this fish over the fried fish. Good balance of everything. The lime they gave me was a bit dry so I didn't end up using it much. I also found a fish bone in the fish while I was eating, so just be careful! Fish and chips - good, but not crazy good. I feel like it lacked a bit of flavor, however, the fry batter of it was super well done. Super crispy! The fries underneath were delicious as well (seasoned). Chips and ceviche - this was very good! They used baby shrimp. It was a refreshing appetizer. Leaving the parking after was soooo hectic. Cars trying to go in and out. It took longer to get out than to find a parking. Overall, I am pleased by the food and service even tho of some mishaps. Inside was a great vibe. I would return again!
The fries were hella good. The fish could have used a bit more seasoning but the tartar sauce on the side was yummy. HUGE pieces of fish too. We also got the crab cakes on the side and they were just ok. Again not a lot of flavoring in my opinion. The spot itself was super cute. Lots of outdoor and indoor seating and is a cute lil garden. Will definitely be stopping by next time we are in the area and we can hopefully stay and sit down a lil longer to enjoy the vibe.

After a long hike in Muir Woods Monument, we're hungry and my family took me too this hard to find, hard to park restaurant in Mill Valley. The line was long but we got to order and had a table for 4 which was nice. There are seatings in the out door but also full. The service is great but extremely hectic, everyone is running like crazy. We ordered from the outside and the server brought the foods to our table. The prices are average $20 a plate. We ordered Fried fish tacos instead of grilled and a burrito. The chips and pico de gallo for $5 is very good, we ordered at the bar. The garlic fries are so good, every piece with great flavor and crispy. The burrito is huge and very filling, but our fried fish tacos are excellent, my wife really liked them, 2 on a plate with everything on them. It's quite messy to eat these tacos, they're big. Anyhow, compare to the Halfmoon Bay fish tacos that we liked, this is quite delicious. There are quite many beers served here but we didn't have any. This is a great fish place, but quite hard to find parking and in a very busy street. read more

This one has been on our list for a while! We stopped by over the weekend around 2pm ish and there was a 50min - 1hr wait. Of course, the weather was gorgeous, so we expected a wait, but what surprised us was when we asked the server taking our order if it was always busy like this, his response was "oh, actually this is pretty chill compare to how it usually is!". Wowza. So come prepared because it's popular! And why wouldn't it be? There's plenty of seating outside, the staff is friendly and welcoming and the food is great! We ordered the poke appetizer to share, the kids got the kids' fish plate, my husband got the ahi tuna burger (recommended by the guy taking our order), I got a fish plate, and we ordered a plate of fish and chips for the table. The fish and oysters were super fresh! The batter on the fish and chips were perfection and the fries had a nice seasoning on them. The poke and the sides for my fish were just ok. The beans were a bit lacking in flavor. Overall, I'd definitely come back! read more
We stopped by Hook Fish in Mill Valley after a day of hiking in Mt. Tam and it was bustling on a Sunday night. We put our name down and waited in our car for about 45 minutes for an inside table. There are outdoor picnic benches in the beer garden out back that are first come first serve, but it was a chilly December night so we opted to wait for indoor seating. When our table was ready, we took our number tag to reserve the table and ordered our food at the counter outside. The indoor bar area was warm and well lit, and the outdoor deck was very cute with string lights and a lively atmosphere. Definitely a great place to come hang out and have a beer. One minor inconvenience occurred when the staff forgot about one of our orders, but they were nice about it and made the food quickly when we brought it to their attention, so I won't dock a star. Grilled albacore tuna plate: Great portions of fish, veggies, rice, and beans. Everything tasted great after our hikes and the sauce/salsa that came with it was yummy. Grilled albacore tuna burritos: Same as the plate but wrapped in a big tortilla. Poke plate: Tried a little piece and the fish was good, but nothing too special in my opinion. read more
Built up an appetite with a hike, so we could try a few things here. The seafood plate with poke was solid. Fish and chips: the rockfish (daily fish) was to die for! Nicely crispy on the outside, soft and tender on the inside. However, the fries that came with it were some of the blandest we've ever had. Fish tacos were delish! They are appropriately overloaded for their price point; you'll need to use a fork. The aqua frescas looked refreshing but were also quite lacking in sweetness and flavor (coming from someone who doesn't like things too sweet). Sunday 3pm had a ~30 min wait for outdoor seating, or no wait for indoor table (which we chose). Single bathroom has a line. You order food outside and pay, then they bring the food to you. Self serve water. Seating can feel tight or close to others. Due to the location, drivers more aggressive than SF, and poor parking, accessing the parking lot can be a bit tricky. Despite the bad locale impression, service was great and everyone was very nice. read more

We came on a really nice day, so it was pretty busy, but the staff still managed to accommodate us quickly, which was great. You order at the counter and they bring the food out to your table. We shared the ceviche, fish tacos, and fish and chips. The ceviche was good and fresh, but for the price, I was expecting a bit more in terms of portion size. The fish was crispy with a great ratio of breading and finished with a nice touch of sea salt. The fries had good seasoning, though I wish they were a little more crispy. The tacos were also solid, with fresh toppings and good flavor. We paired everything with a few beers from the tap, and they have a nice range of options to choose from. Overall, it's a great spot with a cute outdoor space, perfect for a sunny, casual meal. read more

#24 of 2026 This is my go-to for fresh grilled fish, so good!!!! My husband and I have only gotten the fish plates, never tried the tacos or burritos but I'm sure they're also excellent. I love their chips, it's the thick and crispy kinds I like. But I think it was so hard that it actually chipped my husband's tooth lols I think they have a good selection of beers on tap, this time I tried the white wine (Sauvignon??), it was nice! We love coming here on a weekday when there's no line bc the lines can be long which I witnessed over MLK weekend. Hard pass. Servers were really nice, there was a misunderstanding where the cashier thought I wanted 3 bowls but I only wanted 2 so the 3rd was refunded immediately. I like how there's an indoor/outdoor space but during the winter it does feel cold so make sure to bundle up if you're visiting Nov-Feb. Highly recommend this spot! read more

My recent experience here just wasn't very enjoyable. This location has gotten so incredibly crowded. The waits are long, the parking lot is terrible, the service is slow, and the seating is very cramped and mostly all communal. I like the food but all the other factors have really impacted my wanting to come here. I would say to avoid this place on the weekends altogether because it's such a nightmare. read more

Came here after a hike at Mt Tam and it was an estimated 90 minute wait. We ended up getting seating earlier than that which was great cause we were hungry lol. You are seated at a table then order at the counter and they will bring out your order. It was super busy on a Sunday afternoon. The food itself was super fresh. We ordered oysters, fish and chips, and fish tacos. Everything was so good, however I did think the fish lacked seasoning. I found myself using the hot sauce to counteract the lack of flavor. But the fries were seasoned perfect and I enjoyed the sauce in the tacos. Overall I give this place a solid 8/10! read more
Wow. Best restaurant in Marin. Was there when mikey feb introduced his new film and boards with CI. What a great environment to be in! Brings the community together with great food and great vibes. The fish n chips and burrito is absolutely primo. Salad is super worth the price and superrrr tasty. Outdoor seating at night with heaters is limited so def bring a jacket! But i dont even care the food is so worth it ill sit naked outside. I love this place please open up a spot in newport beach!!!! read more
It's a cozy seafood Mexican-American restaurant with full bar. Food is fresh with daily market catch. Grill of the day sandwich was fresh, hot and delicious. Tortilla was perfectly crispy and not oily. Usually busy and long wait in prime times. Once you're seated, you need to go to another line to order food. No table service. Service is relatively quick after you're seated and ordered . Limited indoor tables. Patio seating are heated and vast. Limited parking in the plaza but spots available in other close by plaza. Accessible with flat entry and wide pathways. Will come back for the sandwiches! read more
Came here after hiking in Muir Woods - been on a hunt for the best fish and chips in the Bay and heard that Hook Fish was one to check out. Got there around 3pm and was told that a table for two would be about a 30 minute wait, so it was not as bad as we thought it would be, considering that the whole parking lot (which was probably the only downside; it being made of gravel and without distinct parking designations making finding a spot incredible difficult and annoying) was full. The inside vibe was great, with tons of people drinking/eating and having a good time. When we got seated, we ended up ordering just a few oysters and a 3pc fish and chips. The oysters were pretty good and fresh, with a great vinaigrette on the side to pair with them. The fish and chips, however, were the obvious stars of the show. The fish were nice and golden, with a very crisp texture, and more importantly large and generous. The fries were nicely seasoned and plentiful. The fish was really tasty (you can choose the type of fish depending on what they have on hand, and some cost extra between $2-$10. We chose the standard option for the day: Rockfish), easily one of the better fish and chips I have had - just an incredibly simple, but well executed dish. While the tartar sauce was a good pairing, the real standout pairing was Hook Fish's own carrot habanero hot sauce with the tartar sauce and the oyster vinaigrette. I have never had something like a carrot based hot sauce, but it really works by contrasting the spiciness of the habanero with a slightly sweet carrot undertone. Strange, but it gave the classic fish and chips a unique twist that sets it apart from the competition. While eating we saw tons of different dishes fly out the kitchen as well, such as poke burritos, large portions of chips and salsa/guacamole, and fish tacos. After the experience we had that day, we will be forsure making another round back to Hook Fish to try some of their other options. Their fish and chips are a must. read more
Best fish and chips in the area, as far as I'm concerned. Hook Fish is a good casual spot with more outdoor than indoor dining, so it's a place we tend to visit during good weather, which fortunately Mill Valley has plenty of. Favorite orders for us include their fish (add your preferred fresh caught fish) with nice salt flake alongside chips (fries), fresh poke with house-made tortilla chips, and grilled fish tacos with a creamy slaw with pepitas for texture and crunch. Their curated selection of excellent NA drinks & lemonades, wine, bottled and beer on tap, and local cider are a welcome addition to a meal here. read more

Hook Fish has been on my list for a while but we definitely wanted to go to the Mil Valley location because it is just a bit more spacious with nice patio dining for my pup! We came around 130PM on a Sunday and I originally thought it was an order and go type of place but i guess because it was so busy, you still have to put your name down for a table and then after you're seated, you order outside and wait for your food. We ended up getting seated about a little over an hour later which was actually so long but we had nothing better to do than to wait. We made the drive from the city up. There are a few shops around where you can browse. They carry their own brands but also nice brands like Vuori, Patagonia, North Face, etc. Once we were finally seated, we ordered the fish and chips, poke, ceviche, and grilled fish tacos. I was most excited about the habanero carrot in house sauce. The battered fish was so light and crispy and probably one of the best I have tried. I only wish that it was a little saltier but the habanero carrot sauce fixed that right up. Such an interesting sauce combo but it works so well. We bought 2 bottles for home! Just FYI though, since there's probably no preservatives in the sauce, it does expire within a month. We didn't know that so we just bought 2; however, I've been putting it on everything and I mean EVERYTHING. The ceviche was so citrusy and refreshing but the star of the show for me was more so the poke. Very fresh and great flavor. Let me start off this review with a W for the atmosphere. The cute inviting entrance made me curious to step in, and the beautiful back patio ate. At that point, I knew I needed fish. Don't even get me started on the fish plate I got, seriously don't, because then this review will not end. We came here after a lovely morning hike in Muir Woods and there was a line forming out the door before it even opened at 11 am! We quickly ordered and got to choose a cozy seat inside. You get to customize whatever you order (tacos, burrito, sandwich) with your choice of fish. This is a really cool restaurant tucked away behind a building at Tam Junction. Mostly outdoor seating, but it is comfortable and protected with all wooden chairs. I know they have a location in San Francisco as well. The food is very local with a lot of fish served pub style with a lot of Latin choices. Big menu with a lot of options. One thing that I thought was unusual, but turned out to be really good and hard to stop eating was ceviche and chips, but almost a Korean style with lots of sesame oil. Unusual but good. This place on a Wednesday night was pretty full. You could tell a lot of locals go there but it's also in the corridor where tourist might stop by on the way to Mount Tam or the beach. Found this beer garden while heading out to go on a hike and loved the atmosphere. The beer garden is outside with covered seating and a kitchen that you walk up and order at. Great spot if you're looking for a quick meal or a relaxing place to catch up with friends and try some local beers. We loved the grapefruit taste in the ceviche and we even threw some of the house hot sauce in to add a little spice. The poke was very tender and one of my favorite poke dishes that I have had. The fish sandwiches looked amazing, I will be trying one next time I'm here! read more

Firstly this is an absolutely lovely place to come hang out in the evening, good (affluent) vibes and a nice outdoor space. Quite a lot of seating with many larger tables, you might have to share one if things get busy Poke and fish were great, though use sparingly! There was not enough poke for chips which sent me into a deep pit of despair UNTIL I had the fish and chips Try to eat the fish and chips sharpish, it's best when they are hot, for me I was climbing out of the pit of despair slowly so some of my food had already cooked. The fish had a nice crunch and a good inside, it was soft and not dried out. Great place albeit slightly pricier than spots over the bridge in the city. Lowkey I felt underdressed in this BEER GARDEN. Would come again if I'm over here though! read more
Delicious! We got the fish taco, grilled fish of the day plate, poke, and fries and loved it all. It was perfect after a hike! The service was a bit slow but the restaurant is very popular and busy. Came on a Saturday at 12:30 and managed to get seated for 3 at the bar, but around 2 pm, people were waiting 30-35 minutes for a table. Parked in the plaza across the street. read more
What you see is what you would guess it tastes like. The fish rice plate is pretty much the deconstructed version of the fish tacos + rice. Honestly, mediocre at best. I also had the poke on the side (not pictured) and it just tasted like it was just mixed in only sesame oil. I couldn't even taste much of the fish at that point. If you decide to come, I would only get the fish & chips because that was the only thing that was actually really good. Lightly battered, super crispy, fresh fried fish! If I only had this, I would've given this place a 5/5. But because I had three other items that were just okay, not to mention we ended up having to wait 45+ minutes for a dine in order, did not serve this place well. All our other friends got their food within 5 min so idk what happened to ours. Can't say that I would recommend this place or want to really come back. read more

Why do food orders take so long to prepare on the wkends?
We try to keep the food wait time under 30 mins even when slammed, and usually under 20, but sometimes the wait can back up due to unexpected bottlenecks. Just to clarify, did you mean they take longer on weekends or week days? Thanks
How long is the wait for lunch on a typical Monday?
Hi hope you made it by! We usually don’t have a lunch wait weekdays except on Friday. But if the weather is really nice and warm, there can be a lunch wait no matter what day of the week it is.

Do you have gluten-free bread/buns/tortillas?
Yes we do! The chips and taco tortillas are made here and are gluten free. The Burrito tortillas and sandwich bread are not gluten free.
Hi do you have any options for kids that are not fish?
Yes we do, we have a kids burrito which you could get with fresh or fried avocado instead of fish. That’s my daughters favorite. Kids always love the French Fries too!
