I hadn't been here before, but the reviews convinced me to give it a try. Parking was easy since there was plenty of street parking right in front. I came around 4:30pm, and the restaurant was empty, so we were seated immediately. Service was quick and efficient. I did hear a lot of the loud conversation between the two girls at the register about Instagram and TikTok.... I ordered the super burrito, which was nicely toasted, but overall it was just okay. It wasn't bad, but it didn't stand out either. There was no real spice or bold flavor, and I couldn't quite figure out what it was missing. The horchata was pretty basic. It tasted more like plain milk with cinnamon sprinkled on top rather than the richer, more flavorful horchata you'd expect. I also tried the Baja fish tacos, which were disappointing. The fish wasn't crispy enough and lacked flavor. The tortilla was easily breaking apart. It's like they took the tortilla straight out of the bag because it was cold and didn't look cooked. It came with tortilla chips that were over-fried and borderline burnt, though I wasn't sure if that was intentional. Another reason this ended up being a lower rating for me is the owner's response to feedback. As you can see in other reviews, Tommy tends to get very defensive when customers leave criticism, which I found pretty unprofessional. After I posted my review, he actually messaged me directly (see screenshot), which was honestly off-putting. Yelp is meant to be a space for customers to share their honest experiences, whether positive or negative, and responding in that way doesn't reflect well on the business. I also live in San Francisco, where there's no shortage of authentic and high-quality Mexican food, so I stand by my opinion. Being told my palate isn't "on point" felt dismissive rather than constructive. If anything, I'd just caution others that if you leave feedback here, be prepared for a defensive response from ownership, which may impact your overall experience beyond just the food. Overall, I was surprised given the strong reviews. The meal felt pretty bland across the board, and unfortunately it didn't live up to the hype. Perfect way to end a long hike. My friends and I hiked near Larkspur and conveniently stumbled upon Kito's Taco Shop on our drive back home. The food was very tasty, we ordered the fish tacos and a quesadilla, a hibiscus refresher, and a watermelon refresher. The staff was very attentive and the food came out quickly. I think it took a total of 25 minutes or so from entering the shop to getting the food on our table. I also appreciated the decoration and shop floor plan as a whole. Stopped by last weekend with the family and LOVED it. I've been wanting to try Kitos for a while, and I'm glad we finally had a chance to go. It's a cozy, lively and bright little shop that has good and friendly service and delicious eats. We came during prime lunch time on a Sunday, so naturally, it was busy, but it only took us a few minutes to find a table. It was pretty crowded since it's a relatively small shop. The food took a little longer than expected, but giving them the benefit of the doubt that it was really busy. Plus I'm a true believer that GOOD FOOD TAKES TIME. The way my quesadilla was crafted was a work of art. It was so evenly distributed (I think we have all encountered the burrito that is rice and beans for the first 10 bites before you even get a piece of meat) and every bite was loaded with flavor. I think the only thing that could've made it better was the salsa. The salsas have a lot of great flavor, but has zero kick. My first experience here was on a Taco Tuesday - 3 tacos for $11.50, but only limited to chicken, asada, carnitas, and veggie (full price for shrimp or fish). The woman who took my phone order said you could mix and match any of them, so I tried one of each meat. The first thing I noticed was that there was only 1 tortilla per taco. While I would normally prefer a single, this was the only instance where I wished there were 2 because they were perfectly thin and there was enough filling to split. This was also the only instance in which I preferred the chicken taco over the other meats (I'm normally a carnitas kind of gal) - it was moist and better seasoned than the beef and pork. Overall, I called my first time a win and enough to bring me back again. My second time had the same types of filling, with the majority of them being chicken tacos - all of them were a little drier and saltier this time around. I was disappointed to see that I wasn't charged the promo price for all of them. This was the primary reason I come on Tuesdays. The employee should have disclosed that mixing and matching would change the cost this time around. It didn't burn my wallet, but it was the principle and I was expecting it to be similar to my first experience. If the employee got it wrong that first time, then I understand, but for now, round 2 was just a bunch of sad tacos. read more

When I tell you that Marin County is no hot-bed of late night eateries believe me. A recent visit to Kito's Taco Shop confirmed that we're barely even a purveyor of eateries during normal dining hours. Walking into Kito's just past 7 p.m. I learned that they close at 7 p.m.; I could place an order but only if I'd place it as a to-go order. Two "Taco Tuesday" orders ($11.50 apiece) were placed, each consisting of 3 small "street tacos" with a choice of protein. 2 carne asada street tacos and 1 al pastor later - consumed from the comforts of my car's front seat - I was happily sated, remarking that I'd liked not just the tacos but also the red and green salsas provided as accompaniments. The street tacos are very small (and only one tortilla apiece) but also very filled with flavors; both of us consumers were already talking about a pre-7p.m. return visit as we boxed up our garbage. As might be expected from a Lakspur taco shop, Kito's is neither inexpensive nor does it feel like one of the more authentic taco shops to be found in, say, parts of San Rafael. This is an observation rather than a dig. Kito's feels perfect for the neighborhood in which they exist and their colorful menu and atmosphere has left me certain that I'll be returning on another evening, well before their 7 p.m. closing time. read more

But the "actual" value (sorry, I got all marketing-ish there) is excellent because the food is fantastic. Clearly made in-house with excellent ingredients. I got the Al Pastor tacos and it was some of the best Al Pastor I've had; juicy, tender, a slight bite and subtle pineapple. My wife got the veggie taco and loved it. The salsas that come with the tacos are excellent too (the red was my favorite but the green is great too). We were still hungry, so got the chips and salsa. The chips were clearly made in-house, and they had coated them with something. That's really vague I know, sorry; my marketing-speak escaped me. But the chips and Pico de Gallo were both amazing. Flavors of salsa and guacamole were off - I am lactose intolerant, and it was clear that the guac was mostly SOUR CREAM, which the person who took my order neglected to mention. Soup was edible, but tasted funny - the flavors and spicing simply didn't work. Burrito had mashed potatoes (!) instead of rice, and no beans in sight. Just plain bizarre. A quick stop for dinner for some food at Kitos. I took advantage of the taco Tuesday deal. Three tacos for $11.50 and $4 beer! I ordered first and then grabbed a seat with my number. You can also order takeout and wait for your name to be called. Food came out quick, the decor is so adorable, and tables are always open inside or outside. I grabbed a bite from my partner's burrito and it was so good. I appreciated the burrito crust from being grilled for an added texture.
