This place could be amazing, if only the staff were more friendly vs lackluster in their hospitality and attentiveness. Of the two times we've dined here, the waiters we had have acted more like they've got something else going on more important. On our most recent visit, something was left off of one of our entrees, and our waiter was SO dismissive when we asked him about it. He literally walked away like he was over it. I had to talk to 2 other employees and then finally the chef came out and it was confirmed our order had some key ingredients left out. After this, our waiter all but ignored us, like he was personally offended were that we didn't believe him or just let him be dismissive to us. The views and the setting are so nice here, but with all the dining options around here-why dine and spend your money to be left feeling like a burden vs like you're welcome and tended to politely. Wanted somewhere special, somewhere with some personal history, for a friend's birthday. Weather cooperated and couldn't have been better, which helped to relieve a bit of a wait. To be fair, we arrived quite early and were seated close to reservation time. We've enjoyed dining here for years, but we now think we need another First Choice in the area. Too many "yes, but"s. Yes, the wine menu is extensive but most individual glasses are $18-$22. Yes, the service can be attentive and flawless but the staff can also be dismissive and just too busy for you (you know, very French). Yes, they usually have mussels -- two of us always get the bowl of mussels -- but recently it was way way way too salty. Yes, it is fabulous being at the marina but the noise volume inside the garage detracts from that leisurely calm. read more

My wife and I finally returned here after 10+ years... and plan to come here more often. We were able to order a pairing of dishes from a fixed price menu. There were 3 appetizer options and 3 main options. We tried different things to share and they were all very good including a generous pot of delicious steamed mussels with fries, a delicious Niçoise salad, a hot, creamy smoked trout spread, and a beet salad with creamy burrata. Outdoor seating was taken, but it was about as nice indoors with the windows and doors open and a great view of the waterfront. Service was excellent. My wife faced out toward the beautiful scenery. What a great way to end a day of kayaking The Moules & Clams: Basque was perfection. Aromatic, tender and very generous. The broth was so savory with just the right balance of brine. First timer here. Read on if you're curious about my experience! Arrived at 11:30 AM on a Friday. Parking can be a bit tricky since most of the spots are permit-only. Can be confusing for first time visitors. Make sure to park in the designated "Le Garage" areas. They're clearly marked. Tourist trap or local spot? Honestly, I'm not sure, but from my "eavesdropping" experience, it seemed like there were a good number of locals so that's a good sign. Hehe. When I walked in, the staff asked if I had a reservation, which I didn't. I was surprised since the place was about 90% empty. But by noon, it was packed so I guess reservations do get important as it gets busier. The workers are kind but be aware that with every order, they'll ask if you'd like things like water or extra items without mentioning that they come with an added cost. Only regulars would probably know about the upcharges. Example: the first question they ask is whether you'd prefer still or sparkling water, but they don't say that "sparkling water" is an extra charge. Also, make sure you're coming at the right time. They have different menus for lunch, happy hour and dinner. Each varies in terms of prices and availability. I ordered the Moules Marinieres (Mussels) ($22) - 9/10. The mussels were delicious and the portion size was big enough to share as a snack for two. The mussels themselves were small so keep that in mind. I was also surprised that it didn't come with bread like most French inspired places do. The waiter did ask if we wanted bread, and I'm pretty sure there would've been an additional charge for it. Came here on a Saturday morning most recently. Got seated right away inside but they also have some tables outside. I ordered the pork belly Benedict and was amazing I like the potato's instead of an English muffin. It didn't feel so heavy. The pork was tender and flavorful and the eggs were cooked perfectly. This is a great spot by the water for authentic French food. We visited on a holiday weekend without a reservation, and luckily the staff was very accommodating and made room for us. Service was exceptional. We ordered the escargots, brioche croque madame, bouillabaisse, moules marinière, and frites. Seafood is FRESH! We ordered the Escargots Beurre Maître-d'Hôtel, Moules Marinières, Plateau d'Huítres and all of them went above and beyond our expectations! What we ate: Escargots Beurre Maître-d'Hôtel - Perfectly garlic-y! Everyone at the table had theirs, so we had to order a second round. The bread that was served with it was a perfect addition to scoop up the remaining sauce. Moules Marinières (Mussels with white wine) - The best dish to have on a chilly day in the bay! The warm white wine sauce was delicious and it was great to dip our bread in as well. Plateau d'Huítres (Oysters) - FRESH!! Tartare de Boeuf (Beef Tartare) - Our first time having beef tartare, but it exceeded our expectations from all of the youtube videos we had watched of food reviewers consuming it! The dish is super rich and has a delicate texture. Other notable mentions were the Cassoulet (Duck Confit) and the Steelhead (white fish). The Duck Confit was tasty, but the Steelhead, was just okay. Maybe I was looking forward to something a little more flavorful, as the fish did not absorb as much flavor, and was primarily carried by the sauce. Aside from the food, we experienced top-notch service, which was very quick and tentative. We had booked a reservation prior to coming and we actually arrived 20 minutes before our time slot, but they were able to seat us immediately. The food came out in a very timely fashion and we finished our meal without rush but what felt like a very short time. People brought their dogs to sit with them at the outdoor seating area, so I would assume that the restaurant is dog friendly! I recently visited Le Garage with high expectations as I've visited this a handful of times. While the service was good, the food was a mixed bag. I ordered the burger, which was cooked fine but it lacked seasoning and was lack luster. I can't believe the fries were bland too! The salmon galette was also under-seasoned, and the flavors didn't quite come together. BUT, the chickpea fries were a game-changer! Crispy on the outside, soft tofu like texture on the inside, flavorful, and addictive. If you're a fan of chickpeas, you owe it to yourself to try these. I was really excited about this place based on the reviews but it was completely underwhelming. We made a reservation and were seated fairly quickly once we figured out how to get into the space. We ordered 6 oysters, the pork belly Benedict, the burger, and sliders for the baby. The oysters were small, super fishy, and each one had bits of shell that was hard to eat around. The Benedict was a strange combination of textures - I don't think the potato base really worked with the dish. Maybe if the pork belly was crispy or something, but it was all kinda mush on top of mush and didn't create a pleasant experience. The burger was ok, also kinda mushy and not too flavorful. The fries were ok and the drinks were fine. For the price point, I was expecting better flavor profiles tbh. The setting is cool so I'll give them that as it was nice seeing all the boats. read more

My friend's steak was under cooked. It had to go back to the kitchen. My salad had wilted leaves. The croquet madame said it came with peach jam. They said it was cooked with peach jam. We couldn't taste any peach. The pork belly was undercooked and not crispy too fatty. Service seems lacking. This is a great spot and the views are nice. Just had a really weird experience here tonight. Went for dinner with friends, ordered a bunch of stuff but the clams had sand in them which made them inedible. When we told the waiter he shrugged his shoulders and said that it's normal for the clams to have sand because they come from the sea and that the kitchen doesn't have time to soak and rinse them. Not sure if he thought he was being funny but when a waiter returns to the kitchen with a dish, largely untouched because of possible sand, the customary thing to do is to just apologize and take it off the bill. Not argue with the customer tableside trying to justify why there's sand in the food and then charge them for it. In an area bountiful of the best ingredients, food handling skill and customer service, the experience we had tonight was inexcusable. read more

I'm really sad to see how far Le Garage has slipped in quality. Years ago we used to come here specifically for the duck confit and other authentic French dishes. Unfortunately, those items are no longer on the brunch menu, which now feels dominated by generic offerings like sliders. With limited choices that felt distinctive, we decided to order the oysters and clams. To our terrible disappointment--both shellfish were full of sand. As we crunched through one oyster after another clam, it seemed clear that they hadn't been properly cleaned. The broth called marinière was extremely salty and tasted overly commercialized, and the oysters themselves were quite plain but packed with grit. Even the baked clams still contained bits of sand, which was shocking. More concerning was that the sand wasn't just in the shells--the clam meat itself contained grit, making the dish difficult to eat. To make matters worse, about an hour after the meal we both experienced severe diarrhea. During the meal we mentioned the sandy grit to both the waitress and the busboy, but no one apologized, nor offered to replace the dishes, nor considered adjusting the bill. It was busy brunch service, but the lack of response made it feel like food quality and customer experience simply weren't priorities. Finally, as I was waiting to get parking paid (yes, parking is $5 for valet and there is nowhere to self-park), I overheard two ladies coming in discussing the oyster situation. One of them said, "I once had a rotten oyster here." The other said, "What's a rotten oyster?" The first said, "It's an oyster that is just dead when it hits your mouth, super gross." And the other said, "Oh gosh, hope that doesn't happen this time." The density of bad experiences around shellfish at this restaurant is just alarming. It's disappointing because this place used to feel like a true neighborhood gem. Sadly, it now feels like the success may have outpaced the attention to quality that made it special in the first place. read more

We were really looking forward to a lovely Easter lunch, so we got a 2:30 reservation. We didn't realize that was the closing time for the restaurant, but the staff let us know the kitchen was closing and to get our order in fast. Food came out within 5 minutes, and then we felt a lot of pressure to be done and were not offered coffee or dessert. Great bistro by the water! We arrived shortly after opening on Saturday and were seated immediately. We chose the covered outdoor seating. It can get chilly so bring your jacket. There's also plenty of indoor seating. The burger was delicious and the shoestring fries were great with the aioli. The pain perdu was so soft and yummy; fantastic french toast with berry compote. The croque madame was great as well with a nice side salad. I love bread and all the bread from these dishes were stuff my face good. There's a dedicated valet parking lot for $5. The surrounding parking spots are all permit parking until you get to the bridgeway. read more
