Found this while searching for a lunch spot after hiking in Muir Woods. It ended up being a great find! Basil hibiscus lemonade was delicious, muddled basil tasted fresh and it wasn't too sweet overall. Calamari and shrimp fritti was awesome - big rings of calamari, fried jalapeño and fresh shrimp. Clam chowder was also delicious - lite on the cream, clams still in their shells and huge bowls. My daughter loved the kid's cheeseburger and my son/husband split the steak sandwich and raved about it. First, I want to echo what nearly everyone else posts about the incredible staff. Our hostess, waitress, and busboys were so nice and attentive. The views and ambiance are incredible. For $18 a pop, we wished the cocktails were colder and not quite so sweet. We think the cups were coming out hot from the dishwasher because the ice wasn't making them cold, so they weren't very refreshing on a hot day. Most of our food was good but I ordered the regular French fries as a side, and they were perhaps the worst fries I've ever received from a restaurant. What a vibe! Decided to go to Barrel House to end our seafood-adventure day and it did not disappoint. We came during dinnertime on a weekday and were lucky to get outdoor seating. I have to say, if you are fearful of heights don't sit there! I had my bag closed securely, as I would be the person to drop something and have it roll away. I loved the seating. I loved watching the sail boats, and we were even gifted the presence of a seal! While the table itself is very small and you will need to rearrange frequently, it is worth it. This restaurant is located in downtown Sausalito. Street parking is very hard to find, however, there is an affordable parking lot about 1-2 minutes walking distance. You can use the park mobile app to pay. The entrance to the restaurant is very nice. Around this time of the year they had Christmas lights that lit up the space really nicely. It made for some great photo ops. The inside of the restaurant has downstairs and upstairs seating. It's very intimate with low, dim lighting. Sadly we went in the evening, so we weren't able to see much of the ocean view, but I'm sure in the day time it's beautiful to sit by one of the window booths! There's also an outside patio you can sit at with outdoor heaters. The food was delicious. The dinner menu is small, and mostly seafood items, however they do offer a burger, salad, and soup options. I tried the clam chowder. This is not your typical creamy, clam chowder you get in the city. It's made to order and it is more watery. It has actual clams in it! No processed clams over here. Everything in the soup tasted fresh, different but delicious. It was perfect for the cold weather. For my entree I ordered the rainbow salad dish, and added chicken. It was very filling despite it being a salad. We also ordered calamari as an appetizer and it was very delicious. Overall, the vibes are perfect for a night of celebration, a date, or even just to enjoy the views after shopping. The food is fresh and filling, it's pricey so expect to pay a lot. Overall an experience worth just one visit, mainly due to the fact that we were seated in the table right next to the hostess. It was obviously added-on as the seats were clearly for a waiting area. There's another table near us that was also an add-on table due to their high demand capacity and next to the ramp. The space where the hostess is located is a fire hazard as long lines can be right on the stairs where people can fall. I highly suggest they move their hostess table downstairs where it's more accessible to everyone. Even though they have an accessible elevator, it is still not an excuse for large parties and crowds. Foodwise, the oysters were good but overpriced: $26 for a half-dozen. You can get better oysters somewhere else for sure, but anyone touring the area will of course pay any money. I ordered their risotto which I enjoyed but was needing more cheese. The service was okay too. Both our waitresses looked very stressed and needed a break. They didn't introduce themselves and seemed to put pressure on us ordering, even though we had questions about some certain menu items. When our food was served to us, the waitress didn't bother asking whose food was who's and just put down everything in front of a random guest. This really threw us off and disappointed us greatly. If I could give this restaurant 10 stars, I would! Visited the city for a birthday and stumbled across this spot. If anyone asks me for a dinner recommendation in SF, there's no doubt that I would point to Barrel House. Starting with starters, we got the shishito peppers and oven flatbread. The shishitos peppers weren't too spicy (as someone who is not a spicy person), and the flatbread was so unique between the pears and walnuts, the flavors blended together beautifully! Onto the main course, our server Arnulfo mentioned their sandwiches were very good so we decided on both the steak & snapper and ate half each. The lime pickled onions on the crispy snapper sandwich added a perfect amount of tang, I think the only thing that could make it better was a sauce for some extra moisture but still delicious. The steak sandwich was delicious, and being pregnant I appreciated that the meat was cooked well done yet it was still very soft. Last but certainly not least... dessert! We got the crème brûlée (my guilty pleasure) & the butterscotch bread pudding. The crème brûlée was classic & the butterscotch bread pudding was one of a kind! You cannot go wrong with either! Well, in Sausalito, we stopped in at the barrel House Tavern. It's a quick walk from the fair stop. As you walk up to the hostess stand, you can see a beautiful view of the bay. There's beautiful woodwork on the ceiling that enhances the view. We decided to have some of the mimosas along with our brunch. I had the hibiscus which was really good. As we had had a snack earlier, I decided to have the coconut butternut squash soup as my meal. It had good texture and good flavor. My friends also ate pretty light. They had a prosciutto and fig bruschetta, which was very tasty and a big portion. Another friend had the artichoke fundido which everyone tried and enjoyed. The other ordered a half dozen of oysters, which were fresh and delicious. The service was very quick. They came to take our order and drinks came out fast.
