My pregnant wife has been having food aversions and we didn't want to have a super fancy dinner to celebrate our anniversary so we opted for a nice stroll and lunch in Sausalito. We were seated by the window but felt like the pillar was in the way of the view so we moved outside to the deck/patio. It was a little breezy but the heaters were on so it was quite perfect. The steak sandwich was delicious and the fries were on point! The clam chowder came with fresh clams but was more watery than what we're used to. The server was very attentive and even asked if we were celebrating anything special and came out with a scoop of ice cream and biscotti for us. Looking forward to come back and try their happy hour next time!
Barrel House Tavern is a must-visit in Sausalito. The outdoor patio overlooks the San Francisco Bay with stunning views of the city skyline, and the interior features a gorgeous bar and lounge that sets a great vibe. The food delivered were fresh oysters and a surprisingly filling Lobster and Artichoke Dip that's perfect for sharing. Opted to sit on the patio to enjoy the view of the San Francisco Bay. Service was attentive early on but fell off a bit toward the end, requiring us to flag someone down for water and the check. Great food, incredible setting, and well worth the visit.

They have a certain oil on top the tostadas that makes your hand a little messy but adds a new flavor balance that's worth it. Gorgeous location, wonderful workers, good vibes and good times! We visited Barrel House Tavern in Sausalito and had a mixed experience. We started with the butternut squash soup and the clam chowder. The butternut squash soup was smooth, flavorful, and comforting, but the clam chowder was the standout. It had a unique presentation that was different from the traditional version, and honestly, I liked it even better. It was rich, creamy, and absolutely delicious. Unfortunately, our experience with the host did not match the quality of the food. She came across as unprofessional and lacked basic customer service skills. We felt unwelcome and ended up asking to speak with the manager. I'm sure she shared her version of the situation before he came over, but despite that, the manager was polite, professional, and took the time to listen to our concerns. He apologized for the experience and kindly offered our first round of drinks on the house, which we appreciated. His professionalism helped turn around what had started as a disappointing visit. Overall, the food was excellent, especially the clam chowder, and the manager handled the situation well. I hope the restaurant provides additional customer service training for the host, because the kitchen and management deserve better representation. I would still return for the food and the beautiful waterfront atmosphere.

We ordered mineral water and never received it, while the table next to us ordered alcohol and was attended to immediately. It made us feel like we were being treated differently, and regardless of the reason, service should be equal and attentive to every guest. The food was very average, not bad, but definitely not "wow" enough to justify the prices. Then there are the additional wage/benefit charges on top of the already expensive food, followed by the expectation of a good tip despite mediocre service. For me, it's not about the price, it's about the value. If I'm going to pay premium prices, I expect premium food and service. Unfortunately, this experience didn't deliver either.

I had the crispy snapper ciabatta sandwich and loved it. Crispy fish, great bread, tangy sauce and just a really satisfying lunch. My wife had the linguine with clams and was equally happy. Yes, you're paying a couple of extra dollars for the location, but in this case the view and setting are worth it. Parking was easy in the large public lot around the corner, which was another pleasant surprise. Overall, great food, great service, and a perfect stop on our way to Northern California. All those positive Yelp reviews were right. Highly recommend.

Sausalito is this place. Tavern myself I picture is of a different place. This is a great place to dine. Ambiance, decent value, and great food to boot! It was really delish! Barrel is because inside the roofline is of barrel shape. Had the oysters, ribs, chicken wings, and flatbread. All were good!! Service was great! By the water too! Nice and cozy, evening with great company and good food with great service.

My friend had been raving about Sausalito, the views, the small downtown energy, the overall vibe and our very first stop proved she was absolutely right to hype it up! Barrel House sits in a prime location and the moment you walk in you understand why. Friendly staff, a gorgeous waterfront view and a happy hour menu that actually delivers, not just on price but on quality. I ordered the flat iron steak sandwich and an espresso martini. Both were handled with care. The espresso martini was exactly what I asked for listened to and delivered. The steak sandwich genuinely impressed me. My concern going in was whether I'd be fighting through thick bread and a tough cut of steak and that battle never came. Perfectly cooked, right temperature, tender enough to bite through cleanly without losing half the sandwich in the process. A small thing that makes a big difference. The experience only got better from there. We moved to the waterfront to order dessert and watch the waves roll in and the hostess accommodated without hesitation or attitude. That kind of easy, gracious hospitality is what turns a good meal into a full memory. Sausalito charmed us completely and Barrel House set the tone perfectly. Already planning a return. read more

Sometimes when you have restaurants that beautiful views, unfortunately the food will be lacking because they know people will come just for the views. Fortunately, this was not the case at Barrel House. We had a late lunch here so we only got apps and drinks but we absolutely loved everything. The veggie flatbread was delicious and the Bloody Mary was one of the best I've had. This is definitely one of the better restaurants in Sausalito. read more

The place is perfect--super modern with an ocean view--and the food was delicious; the clam chowder was a bit different, but I'd recommend it. However, the service wasn't great. While our waitress was friendly, the hostess was unpleasant right from the start--she was probably stressed because it was busy. At one point, a couple finished eating, and I asked if we could be moved to their table, but the hostess refused, claiming there was a reservation for it. Yet, thirty minutes went by and no one sat there, and our table would have become available for that reservation anyway. I don't think she was very polite, considering we were customers too. read more

I always look forward to visiting Barrel House Tavern whenever I am in Sausalito, and my recent visit was no exception. The restaurant beautifully combines a stunning waterfront view of the bay with an elegant, well-designed decor and a consistently welcoming atmosphere.The service here is always excellent, but Shelby truly stood out during this visit. As our bartender, she was incredibly attentive, friendly, and professional. Exceptional hospitality like hers is exactly why I continue to return to this establishment. This place is so good!! Before we even got there, the staff was awesome and helped up move our reservation back when we ran into a snafu. When we got there, we only had to wait a few minutes before they got our "table with a view" ready. And yes, it was a very nice view. The food was pretty good. We started with half a dozen oysters (quite good) and the shrimp cocktail. The drinks were good as well. For our main plates, they were amazing. My mom said it was one of the best risottos she's had. My Guinness Braised Short Rib was fantastic, even if the puréed yams weren't very exciting to me at first. Our desserts were so good, I loved my S'more's cheesecake. Be aware: the bread pudding does NOT have sauce. My dad assumed there would be (because there always is) and he was disappointed that there wasn't. The butterscotch is baked in. Visited Barrel House Tavern around 1:00 PM on a packed Sunday afternoon, but placing our name on the waitlist made the 30-40 minute wait effortless since we could explore the surrounding area while waiting. We were seated outside on a warm, sunny day, and while the outdoor tables are a bit on the smaller side, the stunning waterfront views more than made up for it. The food arrived beautifully plated and everything was tasty. We thoroughly enjoyed the Caribbean spiced shrimp risotto, wild mushroom ravioli, and the summer crunch salad. Between the memorable meal, the scenic atmosphere, and their drink happy hour, I would definitely return to try more of the menu! read more

I don't even know where to start. As soon as my boyfriend and I entered the restaurant we were greeted with such a warm and lively atmosphere. The service was amazing and the hostesses were so kind and sweet. The food was amazing and I personally feel like the prices were incredibly reasonable. The quality was beyond our expectations and the portions were perfect. The pricing was very reasonable for the location and the view. The view was spectacular, even though we were seated inside of the restaurant instead of the balcony. To Taylor our server: Thank you so much for an amazing experience! Right on the water this place has the perfect vantage point for a meal right out on the water. Whether you're having a full meal or just grabbing some drinks it's a nice spot. They were very very busy when we walked in and we were only able to grab seats at the bar but the bartenders were friendly and the bar was spacious despite it being full. We got some type of tequila based drink but can't remember the name; it gave tequila sunrise vibes though and was very tasty and not too sweet. We ordered a round of shots and boy do they serve heavy; not that I'm complaining in the slightest. We also ordered a dozed oysters and they were the perfect snack for a hot day. read more

3 stars are for poor service - food was pretty good. But the poor service along with the so-called "California Mandate" FEE they pass to customers reflects poor ownership attitudes as well. That's not unusual in Sausalito and often results in the poor service like we got today. Everyone was friendly but the server that took our drink order disappeared immediately for a break or something and never brought anything. When we flagged down someone else they brought it right away and apologized and said it would be comped. However when the bill arrived the drink was still charged and the deceptive service fee was there too. I didn't worry about that but both things did affect the tip. Aside from the questionable service and ownership attitudes, the Linguine with Clams, burrata appetizer and drinks were pretty good. Also notice the inexplicable cash discount offered on the bill. read more

Visited this past Friday for lunch and was lucky to be seated right away despite how busy the place was, we even got a table with a view! The restaurant was beautiful with plenty of space. Our server was delightful, she was attentive but gave us time to chit chat while deciding on food. The food itself was spectacular, and they were very accommodating to our allergies where possible. I particularly liked the burrata and clam chowder this time. I look forward to visiting again in the future and trying new dishes. read more

Visiting the area and tried this place due to Yelp good reviews. The place is nice and cozy. Nicely done and decorated. It truly is like a huge barrel (house). We were there on a rainy day for early dinner. We enjoyed all that we ordered. And we were served by a very nice, pleasant and lovely lady, named Taylor. Love her! She is so nice and genuine! She truly made our first dining experience at Barrel house much nicer! We had 2 half a dozen oysters. They were the Malpeque oysters. They were clean, crisp and slightly sweet! All of our orders were scrumptious, which are: Tartare Tacos, Korean Wings, BBQ Rib Entree, & pepparoni flatbread pizza. They also have happy hour at the bar at that time. However, it was a weekend and the menu is too limited to our liking. Weekdays offer a better happy hour menu. So glad we stumbled upon this place. Thank you, Yelp! read more

You can't go wrong with sunset, stiffed cocktails and oysters. I think by far they have the best city sunset gazing view on the veranda in Sausalito. Very attentive service and chill vibes. The ahi tuna taco was my favorite. The curry mussels were a bit too creamy for me but hubby loves it. Overall perfect date atmosphere, or just to grab a quick bite when you in a romantic mood or just too lazy to cook. read more

Found this while searching for a lunch spot after hiking in Muir Woods. It ended up being a great find! Basil hibiscus lemonade was delicious, muddled basil tasted fresh and it wasn't too sweet overall. Calamari and shrimp fritti was awesome - big rings of calamari, fried jalapeño and fresh shrimp. Clam chowder was also delicious - lite on the cream, clams still in their shells and huge bowls. My daughter loved the kid's cheeseburger and my son/husband split the steak sandwich and raved about it. I asked them to remove the bread from the panko crusted snapper and they made two Bibb lettuce samis for me that turned out perfect. We visited on Easter Sunday around 2:30pm. The place was packed and busy but we were seated outside quickly, with a nice view and fresh air on this sunny day. The coconut margarita was perfect, had a nice buzz feeling & was strong & sweet. The artichoke dip was so good. Especially since I don't usually eat it. It was blended well with cheese and seasoning. The Baked Dungeness crab stuffed Petrale was different. The Sole was kind of tasteless, everything else on the plate had more flavor. Each item on the plate had its own unique flavor. The broccoli had the best flavor and paired well with the rest. We bit into a few fish bones. Overall I would come back again to try more few items. read more

Stopped in for lunch and had a reservation. We got seated right away and was already busy inside. It's got great views and lots of natural light coming in. It's pretty loud inside and hard to hear each other at our table. Service was quite slow from start to finish. It took 2.5 hrs for cocktails, a couple appetizers, and an entree for 4 people. Drinks were good and pretty standard. I tried the burrata tartine appetizer with grilled peaches. It was refreshing and enjoyed it. For my main I tried the snapper sandwich with garlic Parmesan fries. Food tasted good all around. At the end our server mixed up our cards and bill with another table when everything already felt extra slow. Prices were a bit high but I guess the price for decent views in Sausalito. On a week night, my wife and I were able get a table at 6:30 with a view of the San Francisco skyline and watch the night sky do its magic. I want to start with saying that our service was quite good. The host person was accommodating with our request to sit outside and our server, Maxwell, was delightful. That being said, the food was only mediocre. Let's just say I won't be remembering what I had. I ordered the featured special Watermelon Margarita, which was quite disappointing. I was expecting watermelon chunks to be in it (none) and the size to be adequate yet was a very small glass with lots of ice. My friend ordered the sweet potato fries and they definitely won't be memorable. If they had come with a ranch or blue cheese dipping sauce that might've helped. There are excellent views for sure, depending on where you are seated. Another disappointing part - it was advertised on a chalkboard outside of the restaurant their happy hour specials, and that to be honest is what drew us in. However, after speaking to the hostess, we found that you had to sit right at the bar to enjoy any of those prices. One thing we did enjoy, was watching the Sausalito ferry as it came in to port. The street parking for an hour and 45 minutes was $10. Great service and views- meh for the food. read more

We came on a Saturday late afternoon with reservations for 7 people. We still had to wait 20 + minutes after reservation time and the restaurant had a constant flow of people. Service was good but nothing out of the extraordinary. Most of the food was delicious especially the Bbq ribs entree which was fall off the bone good. The snapper sandwich was good but the fish pieces were all different sizes so the fish to bread ratio was off on all 4 snappers we ordered. I did not have the steak sandwich but my aunt said that she should have ordered the snapper sandwich. For appetizers we ordered 3 orders of the Tartare tacos and Artichoke Fundido. I'd definitely order the Artichoke Fundido again. The restaurant is best rated on the Sausalito waterfront for a reason. We weren't seated outside but were blessed with a beautiful view of the surrounding Bay Area. We would definitely come back again. One thing to mention that there was a guaranteed 20% tip since we had more than 6 people in addition to regular tax and a "CA Wage & Benefit Mandate". With all those fees this attributed to 35% of the subtotal cost. All I can say is that hopefully the benefit mandate actually goes to the workers. read more

Although we just came for the drinks and relax. I liked the restaurant and bar, well decorated and fantastic view of the San Francisco skylines. Service was great can't complain. Food was pricey for what I want. read more

Yes, the place is kind of separated in a few sections, so if it's 15 of you, I don't think you will have any problem...I was there for Sunday brunch, every table was booked and it was not noisy at all.
