Wow wow wow! Our visit to the Bump Bar was probably one of the top five dining experiences of my life. After reading some reviews here I knew it was a small place, so I was pleasantly surprised I could get a reservation during our trip to Sausalito. My husband and I had recently enjoyed some caviar for the first time but we are no experts, and I was a little worried that he might not get enough to eat. Turns out we both left perfectly satisfied. The place is tiny but so elegant. The bar is right in front of the kitchen that is sparkling clean and the chef prepares everything right there. There is a little high top table too and there was a couple there when we arrived, but afterward it was just us and we felt like royalty treated to our private dinner. We aren't caviar experts by any means but Yo did a great job explaining the different caviar flights including where it comes from - turns out the white sturgeon is farmed in the Sacramento Delta. We chose the Menage a Trois white sturgeon flight and it was so elegant. Three kinds of caviar plus all these homemade breads and crackers to enjoy it with. Every bite was amazing and I think we only left a couple of chives. Afterward we picked a couple of other dishes - the Chawanamushi and the Dungeness crab ravioli. Both were exquisite- in flavor and presentation. For dessert we had the sweet potato - Yo described it as a ganache - which I couldn't really picture but it was a very accurate description. It came with asian pear and was just the perfect finish to our meal. I had a couple glasses of French bubbly with my meal - normally I can't do more than one glass of champagne but it was crisp and yummy and paired well with everything we ate. When we were finished we got our check in a cute sturgeon pulp science fiction book. It was the final thoughtful detail to a wonderful evening. Chef Lance is a real artist and he really thinks through the ingredients and the flavors. Everything was so delicious and creative. I hope we get to come back again someday. read more

I cannot believe we have been so close to such an incredible restaurant and have not gone until now. It is unbelievably wonderful, everything was perfection. When they first opened a year ago, I was confused that maybe they were just a caviar bar, so we didn't go. But they do a full dinner of small plates, and it is exquisite. It's similar to Madcap, which up until now was our favorite restaurant. Both the chef and the server/hostess used to work there, I believe she said, so it makes sense. I never knew I liked caviar until now! We got the royal white sturgeon, it comes with all these little accoutrements, and was so flavorful! It's so intimate, only seats 6 at the bar and a two top inside. I'm torn between wanting people to know about this place so it does well, but also love that this hidden gem has not been fully discovered. read more

Chef Lance cooking up some amazing dishes! To start, we had the Trio set of caviar tasting. Every sample was uniquely flavored with a variety of brininess and creamy texture. He paired that course was a sweet sake that balanced out the tastes of the caviar. We then ordered every a la carte dish on the menu to share. His Japanese background was accentuated with each dish as he combined unique flavors to create an umami experience, while keeping each dish light and clean tasting. Please patronize this establishment. We went in on a Saturday night at 5:00 and we were the only people in there. We had a great time. We had the Siberian Caviar. It was so good we tried the Queen's Reserve White Sturgeon, also good. The blinis were the best I've ever had and the non vintage Donain Rolet was an execellent Champagne by the glass. Came on Sunday afternoon at 4:30pm for a quick appetizer before our main dinner. Beautiful restaurant in a beautiful town. Group of 4, we were immediately greeted and seated at the bar area. Ordered the Maine Scallop Crudo and the Domestic Caviar Flight. Everything was beautifully prepared and presented. Staff were very knowledgeable and we loved that they gave us the backstory on every item. I'll keep this short. Scallop crudo was good and topped with fermented sauce that we were familiar with in other cuisines. The flight consisted of three different caviar varieties which are accompanied by an egg mixture, crème fraiche, shallots, herbs, and the most amazing butter toasted brioche. Basically, come here and get your mind blown by a great experience and great food. read more

Followed by Caviar Flights: 1) Domestic 2) CCC Each 'Flight' consists of three different types of Caviar accompanied by egg, crème fraiche, shallots, fine herbs, and toasted brioche (buttery yummy goodness by the way ). Plates (we ordered all of it!): -Smoked egg custard w citrus yolk jam, maple, and bacon trout roe. -steak tartare w daikon, shiso, and Hackleback. -Mt Lassen trout crudo w brown butter vinaigrette and sake trout roe. -Mt Lassen trout w summer squash and salmon roe. -Semmifreddo (dessert) brown sugar, sake, royal white sturgeon. Beautiful and elegant caviar bar featuring amazing caviar from their own farm (ask about the history and development of caviar processing, I learned so much and it was fascinating.). But not just great caviar, wine, and sake: the chef creates culinary masterpieces using fresh local ingredients which are all presented in full artistry. This was literally some of the most exquisite food I have ever put in my mouth. I had a dish of squash varieties that was heavenly, a sushi roll featuring local anchovies that tasted like butter, housemade Yokan that was divine, and melon with a basil oil pairing that finished sending my tastebuds to heaven. What a fabulous way to end the year with the luxury of luxuries at a caviar bar. Deborah Keane and her staff have created a unique experience that you might say you'll only experience once, but you'll find yourself going back to especially if you love caviar. The intimate 12 seater bar fits in nicely on Bridgeway parallel to the Caledonia street shops and only takes reservations and a deposit online or via phone. The staff is led by Dani, who was the perfect hostess for the evening, and she was supported by Fernando and Nate who helped provide descriptions and instructions for our caviar and roe based meal. To say it is a theme meal is to put it lightly. The ambiance actually is accentuated by the people eating or celebrating around you. Whether it is a group moms talking their new G-Wagons they got for Christmas or a family introducing their 10 year old daughter to caviar, the place is great for Marin people watching. In fact their New Year's Eve $195 celebration sounds perfect. In fact I think the place would be ripe for a small holiday party, closing dinner, or restaurant takeover. If it is your first time I highly recommend the tasting Prix Fixe menu and then maybe come back for a la carte style. Our menu started with croquets which had our first and only meat of the evening. They were a good starter and we had no idea about what was yet to come! Then came the sturgeon we were waiting for. It did not disappoint. Then the fluke crudo followed by my surprise dish of the evening, the trout! This was followed by a crispy skinned sea bass and finally the lobster with lobster salad. As I was driving, I only had a glass of Champagne while my companion had a flight of champagne to go with her meal which she clearly enjoyed. I first heard about this place during my attendance at Quail A Motorsports Gathering. The Caviar here is by far the best I've had in America. And I will go on to explain why. And why I gave this place 5 stars as well. Moving on. I've posted a picture of the menu here so you can get an idea of what they offer. And what I'll be talking about. Firstly this place is by reservation ONLY. They do not open till 4pm. Upon walking in I was greeted immediately. I was then asked to verify my reservation. Once verified I was able to sit down. The first thing I noticed right away is that the place is smaller. But in a good way. This place would be far to crowded and loud which would diminish the experience here. The decor here is very upscale, clean and new. The atmosphere is very rich and elegant. Whats there to expect? this is a caviar bar lol. Although I ordered the domestic flight. I have tried ALL the caviar they do offer here. I will list some of my favorites. Trout bacon infused ROE ( not so much caviar. It's definitely a roe ) Is a fun and tasteful roe. Yes it's the most basic it gets. But the flavor is there and you cannot go wrong with it. Next my favorite is the hackleback. One nice thing to know is that this one is in house. They use a local farm. With just the right amount of aging into this one it goes a LONG way for smooth flavor. Another to try is the Siberian sturgeon. Just WOW. It is absolutely amazing. Just be aware if you don't like rich flavor this wouldn't be the one for you. They also have small plates with Wagyu beef and Lobster etc. I would highly recommend the Wagyu. It's cooked absolutely perfect. With all that said I will finish it off with this. The display of what you ordered is on POINT. 5 star display! This place will definitely satisfy your caviar crave. And leave you with a smile on your face and a soul filled with happiness. This is truly a great experience and I'm so happy they've opened up a front caviar bar. I will definitely be returning! Giving 5 stars as I don't want to hurt their ratings due to my displeasure over a policy of the bar. The place is sharp, clean and professional. We stopped in on a whim as we were walking past to have dinner downtown. Sat at bar, there were two other patrons in the seating area. We ordered two glasses of the Sauvignon Blanc. Unfortunately we were told they didn't have any chilled( which was strange as they are open Thursday-Saturday and this was Thursday ?) . We were offered an alternative white that was great. Upon leaving and paying check, there was an auto gratuity of 20% and a cost of living tax as well put on our check. I'm sorry but 6.50 tip because it's auto on two glasses of wine is a bit much, even for this area. It wasn't until being in Moscow, that I got a chance to experience caviar, and I became hooked. The Bump Bar, inside of California Caviar is like being at a nice dinner party. The place laidback, yet intimate. We had a caviar flight with an order of trout caviar, ham croquets, and lobster dish. I drank some fantastic champagne and ate and ate Bellinis along with our meal. The staff, including the fab Dani was helpful. The soundtrack of restaurant was also on point, with Thundercat playing in the background. There are so many places where you can go for a great meal, but the Bump Bar is a culinary adventure. The food is creative, beautiful and delicious and I got a caviar education. The friendly staff helped me learn about the differences between the various caviars including the wonderful ones that California Caviar produces. Went to the Bump Bar for the first time last night. The staff was friendly, and let our party of 4 order the tasting menu, even though we hadn't booked it 24 hours in advance like they usually request (wasn't aware of this at the time I made the reservations). Super happy we did the tasting menu, all the food was absolutely fantastic and the caviar base of the dishes made them very interesting, fresh, and absolutely delicious. Loved the staff, the atmosphere, the food, and the wine/champagne. Will definitely be back, can't wait to try out another seasonal tasting menu when the season changes! I stopped in right when they opened several weeks ago. I was so excited to see them open I sat at the bar and enjoyed some caviar and champagne. While sitting there I made a dinner rez for Xmas break. It came as close to perfect as any meal I've had, and I've had quite a few. I ordered the tasting menu and each course was as a delight. Each very different from the one before but managed to include a bit of caviar in each course. The service was impeccable as well.
