A very nice casual restaurant in the heart of downtown Sausalito. I understand it is relatively new and has another location in San Francisco. We came with friends and sat outdoors. Both the indoor and outdoor dining space are nicely appointed and comfortable. The outdoor space is similar to a sidewalk dining space in major cities with a nice divide of planters containing herbs. Our server was very pleasant and helpful. We didn't feel rushed and the pace of the dinner was good. We ordered a bottle of pinot noir that came in a carafe. It was good and an adequate amount at $68. The menu is comprehensive with a broad array of selections. I opted for the risotto, $26. It was quite good although the portion seemed on the small side compared to that dish I've had elsewhere. It was creamy and satisfying nonetheless. We also opted to get the house bread for $10. and it was well worth it. Delicious, light and fluffy biscuit like pieces. Everyone seemed pleased with the meal and I sense it's a good and consistently steady restaurant. I apologize for a lack of photos but as I have said in the past I find it disruptive and a bit rude to take photos of the environment and food when with others one doesn't see often. This tourist trap sells overpriced mediocrity. Some of the items are okay, some of them are just bad. My wife had the halibut fish and chips and offered me a piece, as soon as I got it near my nose it smelled like spoiled seafood I did take a couple bites and would say it didn't taste overtly spoiled, so I'm guessing the spoiled fish odor may have been from the oil in the fryer, either way I didn't eat the rest of the piece. They raw oysters were fine and basically fresh but I felt a little hesitant to eat them because of the bad odor from the fried fish. As a side note there was a separate service charge added to the subtotal which is also taxed on top of it. When I asked what the charge was for the sever made up some story about mandatory additional taxes and fees in Sausalito, which a later fact check quickly revealed no such thing exists in Sausalito. The waiter could have just told the truth and told me it was a mandatory tip charged by the restaurant. Anyway, if you're willing to walk another minute from the ferry stop I think you could find something better. read more

It's just so happened that's my two daughters and my wife and myself were off on the same day Tuesday. So lunch was prescribed! And what a better place but scenic Sausalito! However, I refer to it as "fisherman's wharf north". Uninteresting retail shops with trinkets, touristy, fair like items disposable product. So much to my surprise, we find probably the BEST restaurant in Sausalito, which my daughter was already familiar with from previous visits. I was a bit skeptical because I'm not a big fan of what is offered up and down the main drag. But, to my surprise this was top-notch, excellent and well presented. To my delight, each bite was rather exciting and full of flavor but $10 for an order of bread is a bit steep but warm and delicious with soft herb butter. The food and the service were excellent, and definitely a new regular spot for me and whomever wants to join me! The mushroom pizza was delicious perfectly prepared, tomato salad with stone fruit- delightful, and superb crisp french fries. And me LUVS some corn fritters that were truly excellent! I felt maybe I was a bit critical in my last review. .. I thought perhaps it was just a bad day for them so I went back to try their evening menu. The second experience was a disaster. 1. DRINKS: They served me their "special" old fashioned, which was terrible...way too sweet... so I sent it back... I later found out that they used brandy instead of a bourbon or whiskey... 2. FOOD: We ordered their margarita pizza "extra crispy " as instructed by a friend who said the tend to come undercooked.. it came to us way undercooked... crust chewey and doughey.... We sent it back and the second one was better. ...actually pretty good. I do want to add this: i still may return someday because things can change. Was excited to try this place out but am so disappointed with the experience we had here. First, If you're not aware of the area in Sausalito, it can get pretty busy where parking can be sort of a nightmare once the public parking lot fills up and most of the time street parking is also scarce. But my rating isn't about the parking situation at all but rather a heads up for visitors. When it came to service, this place seemed promising with the way everyone was attentive in helping us with our party that included two wheelchairs. They helped get us to our table and removed chairs that we no longer needed and left us to our own devices. While we were not a fully seated party (we were missing just one person), we were ignored by our server for about 10 minutes before he thought to ask us what we wanted to drink. Even then, he was still distracted by a table that was seated in a booth next to ours. Even when asking for simple things like a spoon or straws from what we assumed were busboys or runners, we were met with attitude and almost a disdain for an easy request. Our waiter was also very unusual where he was finally getting our orders when he completely turned away from our table in the middle of us verbally ordering to greet another table that just sat down and started a conversation with them before saying he'd be right back to them and letting us continue our orders. To say our service experience here was less than bizarre is an understatement. The one real positive interaction we had was with the chef who came out to give us the appropriate silverware and discard bowl for the cioppino. When it came to the food, it was also disappointing. I should have taken the hint by looking at the demographic and lack of ethnic diversity of the restaurants patrons that the food would be a reflection of that. The charcuterie was disappointing but maybe that's because we also hold the standard of such an appetizer to that you'd find at Belotti in Rockridge. Too many pickled veggies that the cheese and limited salami choices were overshadowed. When it came to entrees, it was even more disappointing. Things were bland and not great. The only thing that looked good was the chicken dish which only one person in our party got. They have a sucky burger which is even more disappointing since that should be one of the most reliable menu staples of any given restaurant. We tried to forget our dinner by drowning our sorrows in dessert and ordered the butterscotch pudding and the strawberry shortcake. Only one was enjoyed which was the pudding by two in our party. I'm verbally groaning thinking about this shortcake while writing this review because it was even more so disappointing than our dinner. For the cake part, they served the driest hockey puck of a biscuit. It was infuriating especially since it was the one dessert I was counting on feeding my grandparents who have texture and temperature issues with the other one we had ordered. Overall, this place will not be in my future recommendations or places we will be returning to. The location is great but that's all I can say that's positive about this. read more

This is my second time here and the place is nice with the view. The waitress was great but the food was not so great. The first time we ordered the cheese burger and fish and chips. The fish and chips were very oily and burger was nothing special. The bun was dry and not fresh. So today ordered some starters, the one we liked best was the Brussel sprouts and crispy polenta. For me, Cultivar lands around 3.5 to 4 stars for brunch right now, but I'm open to being wooed on a future visit. We had a tasty, spendy, weekend brunch experience here, the day before Mother's Day. The biggest draws were the buzz of the crowds, pretty marina views in the distance, and country club-like outdoor cafe seating, alongside outdoor couches, perfect for lounging and enjoying rose and pizza on a sunny day. It has an Edward Hopper meets Scandi feel, and a very attractive bar area. Service was professional but slow. Dishes were solid & made with quality ingredients. Our meal included a well executed omelette with wild mushrooms ($27), smoked trout and spinach eggs Benedict ($30) with a good hollandaise, and a coffee service complete with raw sugar cubes that was brewed strong enough to make me wish I could afford a weekly waterfront brunch. My main hesitation was pricing is roughly 1.5 times other comparable brunch spots. The waterfront setting, higher rent & newly designed interiors may justify that for many: they are already pulling larger crowds on sunny Sausalito days. read more

Was finally able to come by last weekend and take in the beautiful ambiance of this gorgeous place. It was a busy Sunday evening and everyone was out and about. We luckily got the last seats at the bar. While we didn't order anything to eat this time, I did get a beautiful cocktail at the suggestion of the bartender. I believe it was the Vees Knees, beautiful and light...perfect for an early Sunday evening. There was ample opportunity to people watch at the bar...all ages, all dress codes, all positive and fun. Everyone was smiling and having their own conversations and open to meeting new people, how much better can it get? Next time I hope to come by for dinner along with the drinks and will update my review again. read more

This place was really good and super nice inside--great atmosphere overall. The gnocchi was delicious, especially the one stuffed with cheese--that was definitely the best thing I had. The pizza was good the day we got it, but honestly even better the next day. The wagyu was just okay, nothing too special, but the drinks were really good. One thing to note is there's no dedicated parking for the restaurant, so you'll have to either pay for street parking or park closer to the ferry and walk over. When we went, the weather was perfect, which made the whole experience even better. I'd definitely go back, mainly for the gnocchi. read more

Even if just for appetizers, you can trust the staff for great recommendations on the strip or fantastic main courses served in house! The duck poutine is so good and quite filling. Also, the fried shrimp with green beans is a surprisingly tasty pairing- Especially if you get one of the pieces with the shrimp fried ON to the green bean. We've been wanting to try their new location in Sausalito since it opened so went with our son and girlfriend. We entered through open side door and stood by what looked like host stand stand for a bit with staff ignoring us until we realized the actual host stand was at a different location. Finally got seated wait staff was attentive. We ordered steak pizza and a salad. The steak was over cooked the pizza had cheese even though we ordered it without but the salad was amazing. The decor is nice with booths in and out tvs over the bar fire pots outside but I think they still have some glitches to work out. read more

Branzino was so hard to eat as the head and tail were still on - it's SO preferable for a restaurant to have the servers remove the bones, head & tail table-side before plating it. Would make a HUGE difference. Pizza was mediocre. Not terrible but not great. Artichoke was not cooked through - semi-raw. On the bright side, the booths are VERY comfortable and early evening around 5:30pm the music was NOT loud yet. I recommend going VERY EARLY if you don't want to strain to hear each other. Location is great. Service was good. I'll give it another try since I've only been there once, but if it's not better I probably won't go back. read more

Twice I ordered the kids menu- the pasta to go and I got about a half a cup of pasta for $9.00. A whole half a cup. Wasn't worth 9 cents let alone $9.00. What a rip off-charging that much for such a low amount of food. No kid or adult would think that amount of pasta is acceptable. I won't go back. read more

They did comp our pizza that got lost in their system when our server clocked out for the night and left without telling us or apparently anyone else. I'm a long-time fan of the Chestnut Street Cultivar location (love the back patio and cozy fireplace ambiance, not to mention the grilled cheese and tomato soup!) and was excited for an excuse to cross the bridge and check out the Sausalito location. A completely different vibe, and yet the familiar (and expected!) quality -- and new surprises. Table favorites included the branzino and the "North Bay" pizza with prosciutto, fig jam, goat cheese AND a duck egg. Sparkling rosé pairs perfectly with everything in life. Great service. Terrible service meets mediocre food. In fairness, good wine. I'm a local, had been waiting in excitement for this location to open and up until this experience had been rooting for their success. Unfortunately the experience I had was so awful, that I now am just as eagerly awaiting their almost certain demise- you can't treat customers like this and survive when there are much stronger options in the area (shout out to Poggio). Sat at the bar and received terrible service. The bartender was more interested in ignoring us than helping us, giving attitude to us when we asked for menus after sitting there for 10 minutes without being acknowledged. Busy? No. There seemed to be more employees than customers. This was just a sign of more to come, with terrible service with an unfounded attitude thereafter. At the end of our meal, the owner happened to be there and we shared this feedback with him, again still wanting to help them improve and succeed. The owners attitude was completely apathetic and it became clear to me that the place is likely doomed as a result. There are too many options with better food and service for me to give them another try. I'm now looking forward to whatever will come next to occupy their space, as I'd be surprised If they last very long here. The tacos and ceviche were bland and uninspired to boot. Cultivar is the restaurant that Sausalito desperately needed. The space is beautiful and really comfortable. Big leather booths, warm lighting, and an inviting bar that makes you want to stay a while. The heated outdoor seating is fantastic too, especially since it's dog friendly. The food is outstanding. The lobster mac and cheese is a standout, and the pizzas are excellent, simple, flavorful, and clearly made with great ingredients. Service is quick and friendly. What I love most is the overall energy of the place. It's lively, fun, and has a level of sophistication that feels like a real boost for Sausalito's dining scene. For some reason the waiter was extremely pushy and kept wanting us to sign the check although we were not finished with our food. Building on the success of its SF/Marina location, Cultivar recently added a second location in Sausalito, and it is a fantastic addition to the Southern Marin dining scene. We had an exceptional dinner ranging from ricotta stuffed squash blossoms as a starter to a gnocchi that was surprisingly light and delicious. Service was attentive and knowledgable, and seating offers both inside and covered outside options. Also, a nice set of custom cocktail options, some of which were creative mocktails. The only downside is that it is located a few hundred yards from where the tourist ferry docks, so the area can get crowded with pedestrians happily not paying attention. Overall, Cultivar is a winner and will be distinctive in the Sausalito dining scene because it has the quality and service that will attract a loyal following of locals vs Sausalito's default tourist-geared model of mediocrity. read more
