I normally try to give places the benefit of the doubt, but as others have mentioned in their reviews, the ramen here is truly terrible. It honestly tastes like it came straight from a package, not something freshly prepared. The egg was clearly microwaved, and the chashu had a strange, almost artificial texture - more like processed meat than anything freshly cooked. On top of that, they don't even offer hot sauce, which seems like a basic option for a ramen shop. I'm from the eastbay and I work out of Marin county, this is one of my favorite sushi spots in Marin. I've worked in Marin for over 5 years and there are not too many good restaurants that I want to spotlight. Oyama is tucked in the Bon Aire plaza in Greenbrae. A decent size place that has one of the best sashimi combos I've ever had, sashimi cut are so big, one piece is like two pieces. They are a very popular Japanese spot so they get busy, there was one time there was a wait to dine in and doing takeout(which I usually do take the food home). The staff are very friendly, I go there so much they know how many chopsticks and soy sauce I need. They have an outdoor patio if you like eating outside or seat inside at a table or at the sushi bar. Their quality of their food is top notch. That is why if I want sushi/sashimi, Oyama is where I go in Marin. I will add some pics when I order from Oyama again. read more

Will not return!! We have been ordering from this restaurant almost weekly for 2 years. They completely messed up our order tonight (we did not receive half of our order). Ok mistakes happen. But, they then tried to blame it on us, then they blamed it on Uber, then they kept me on hold for 15 mins while I listened to them try to figure out their ordering system - completely forgetting (and not caring) that their loyal customer was on hold waiting to hear how this issue would be resolved. Turns out they did not resolve it at all. They also did not act like they cared at all about the mishap. Seeing all of the recent terrible reviews makes me wonder if it's under new ownership or something. Such a bummer - and we will not return! read more

This is a really nice place to stop and have yourself a bit of lunch and have it healthy at the same time in the Bel-Aire shopping center in Greenbrae, California. I use this as an excellent opportunity to catch up with an old friend who is a manager at 1 of the local stores. Hes a world traveler and I just wanted to find out what is next adventure would be and share some good food with him so he recommended this place. As we chatted the food arrived and it came out looking pretty much like you would expect for a sushi restaurant but I am always looking at a little deeper too check for freshness and character in the food.I could tell the rice was well made because it had just the right stickiness and the right shine to it. Sometimes sushi rice isn't always what you expect it to be. If you've been to Japan you will know that it takes a long time for someone to learn how to do just the rice before they're even allowed to cut fish. I was happy to show off in front of my friend and use the Japanese I'd learned over the years. I actually wasn't surprised that nobody there could answer anything that I would say because nobody there spoke Japanese. But that's not a bad thing if the quality of the food is as good as it is here satisfied with the freshness of the fish the freshness of the rice and the service. Everyone was very nice. I work close to Oyama and have been to Bon Air Center quite a few times ! Finally came to Oyama and boy oh boy this is now one of my fave sushi spots in Marin! Perfect seating outdoors with lots of fresh air and sunshine . We ordered the Hot Mamacita Roll and the Chirashi lunch special ! All Covid protocols are being followed and everyone wears masks gloves and distancing! They also have you write out your order to prevent having to speak to waitress! Food took a bit long to be ready ! They have lots of orders from Door dash and Uber Eats! Finally got our meals and my sashimi was so fresh and melted in my mouth! Big chunks and totally delicious . Over 12 pieces of an assortment of Ahi Tuna, Salmon, and Yellowtail. I usually only write good reviews, but the way I was treated was unbelievable. I ordered Miso Sea Bass. The only thing that tasted fine was the miso soup. The 2 oz portion of fish was 1/3 the size of the photo on the menu and fatty. 5 balls of broccoli were cold next to a gigantic scoop of white rice. I told my waitress that the salad (lettuce only) tasted like it still had dirt on it, so I couldn't eat it and the sea bass was fatty and tasted as if it had been pre-cooked. She said that they don't wash the lettuce because it's organic. The waitress said she would tell the chef. She went inside and came back with the chef's message: "Too bad." The other waitress asked what was wrong and when I told her, she said that if she had been my waitress, she would have told me not to order the sea bass. She went inside to talk to the chef and came back with the same nasty message and told me I would have to talk to the chef myself. I explained that I don't go inside because of covid precautions. She said wait here and the chef will come out to talk to you. Fifteen minutes later, no chef. I left without signing the credit card statement, not having realized I should never have given them the card. Most restaurants try to give you something else, if you don't like what you ordered, or comp at least part of the meal. NADA. All my fault. I will never go back. Would recommend getting any dish with sashimi because the fish here is pretty good! I liked the tuna dumpling which is tuna wrapped around crab meat. It was a flavor bomb. The sashimi cuts were the perfect size for a one bite also. The tempura mix was made well, because the batter stuck well to the vegetables and they still stayed fresh and crispy throughout the dinner. The squid was charred so nicely and had a good smoky taste that complimented the refreshing lemon mayo dip they had on the side. Definitely come here for fresh fish and order hot sake if you never tried it..it's warm and easy to drink and compliments the food nicely. This is a reliable Japanese restaurant with good food and service. Oyama is located in the Bon Air shopping center in Greenbrae, so you'll be competing for parking with lots of other people at any given time. If you can't find it, it's between an Art Gallery and Peets coffee. One big advantage of eating here is that you can order ahead via Yelp/GrubHub. They are pretty quick to get your order ready, too. You just give them your name at the register, and they grab it for you. Also, there is a pretty great selection of Japanese food. Don't let the name fool you. Sushi is only one type of food on the menu. There are also bento boxes (which are great for lunch, especially if you are really hungry), udon and ramen, katsu and tonkatsu, and lots of appetizers. Is it the best sushi/Japanese food you'll ever have? No, but it's a pretty great place overall. read more

Consistently excellent! I just love Oyama! Everything I've tried has been delicious. Lately I've been more adventurous, ordering some of the more complicated sushi. They have a big selection. Apparently this place is takeout only because I called the other day to go sit down and they don't do that! BUT I ordered delivery through an app, and this is the best sushi in Marin aside from Sushi Ran! Their fish is very fresh. Avocado in the rolls is green, no brown (I loathe brown avo). But These rolls are TASTY. Like they are very quality, the flavors tie together perfectly and they are SAUCY. The sauces they put on these rolls are absolutely INCREDIBLE! The presentation is also nice and appetizing. So far I've ordered: four seasons roll, A's roll, Dragon Roll, Fire Star roll. The service workers and manager do not seem the grasp the concept of creating and executing the elegant tranquilly of a typical Japanese restaurant. The udon or ramen broth are flavorful and the sushi is ok. The environment is pleasing and comfortable, if not for the poor service I would give it a much higher rating. FYI- if you order ramen rather than udon, they tell you about the extra charge for ramen since it was not on the menu when I was there. I've been hearing a lot about this sushi joint the fast few months. I finally swung by here today for lunch. And I got to say - I really enjoyed my meal. Located in the Bon Air Shopping Center (next door to Peet's Coffee + Mollie Stone's Market), the restaurant itself isn't exactly eye-catching, but the food sure as hell is. I wound up ordering the Jalapeno Popper Rolls (seven spicy tuna rolls topped with spicy white tuna, avocado, jalapeno spicy sauce). This dish is a winner. It might not be the most traditional maki roll, but what do I care? Delicious is as delicious does (or something along those lines... it sounded better in my head). The spiciness of the jalapeno and the creaminess of the avocado paired well with the fresh tuna. We started our lunch with a generous bowl of miso soup and a small salad. The miso was terrific. Not too salty, and plentiful in the tofu department. The salad, on the other hand, was the weak link of the lunch. The dressing (if you want to call it that) left little to be desired. It looked and tasted like drizzled Sriracha sauce. But all in all, this was a satisfying lunch. I certainly didn't walk away hungry. Best of all, I didn't walk away feeling bloated and tired either.
