    Ramen
    luke k.

I normally try to give places the benefit of the doubt, but as others have mentioned in their reviews, the ramen here is truly terrible. It honestly tastes like it came straight from a package, not something freshly prepared. The egg was clearly microwaved, and the chashu had a strange, almost artificial texture - more like processed meat than anything freshly cooked. On top of that, they don't even offer hot sauce, which seems like a basic option for a ramen shop. The service experience was unpleasant as well - the lady running the place only barked orders and spoke in exclamations, which made the whole visit feel rushed and unfriendly.

I work close to Oyama and have been to Bon Air Center quite a few times ! Finally came to Oyama and boy oh boy this is now one of my fave sushi spots in Marin! Perfect seating outdoors with lots of fresh air and sunshine . We ordered the Hot Mamacita Roll and the Chirashi lunch special ! All Covid protocols are being followed and everyone wears masks gloves and distancing! They also have you write out your order to prevent having to speak to waitress! Food took a bit long to be ready ! They have lots of orders from Door dash and Uber Eats! Finally got our meals and my sashimi was so fresh and melted in my mouth! Big chunks and totally delicious . Over 12 pieces of an assortment of Ahi Tuna, Salmon, and Yellowtail. Really enjoyed the food and eating outdoors highly recommend Oyama Note the indoor menu is way more extensive than they'd online menu.. come check them out! Ok

Ask the Community - Oyama Sushi

Have you guys noticed that the food portion is getting smaller and smaller in this place?

We haven't noticed that at all. The sashimi was very generous, as was the seaweed salad. And the sushi rolls were generous with fish, not filled with rice. Also, the chicken skewers were better than ever. We're fans.

Will there be inside dining anytime soon? If so, when?

    Yes, inside dining now.

That should have been the first red flag. After being seated, we were completely ignored. No placemats, no water, no greeting -- nothing. We had to ask just to be acknowledged so we could order, and even then the staff acted like we were an inconvenience. What made it worse was watching them clear two other tables, seat new families there, and fully set those tables up -- all while we were still sitting there with zero service. It was obvious we were not a priority at all. The only moment anyone looked our way was when we finally got up and walked out -- and not a single person attempted to apologize or stop us. That level of indifference says everything. Absolutely unacceptable service. We will never return.

The restaurant is in a nondescript pocket sized strip mall. I had my doubts, but felt we were transported somewhere else as soon as we stepped through the door. We were welcomed and seated immediately. The menu is extensive, mostly sushi and sashimi dishes. We ordered exactly the right amount for the two of us, including a special appetizer of a shrimp custard (yum), tempura shrimp (two shrimp, crispy, dipping bowl with a side of spicy daikon we could add). I ordered the Hakata Mizutaki hot pot with chicken and cabbage. My wife went for the Queen sushi roll with unagi, hamachi and sweet sauce and a small 2-piece sashimi plate. For dessert we ordered another special, a sweet potato custard that came with a generous scoop of the creamiest vanilla ice cream I've ever had. The presentation for the dessert was so special... it came in a lidded lacquer box (see photos). After recently eating in a terribly noisy restaurant, we appreciated that the sound level here was very low, making conversation easy. Our server was gracious and attentive (filling our pot of tea with hot water, and then pouring the tea for us). All of the food was fantastic. The total with tax and tip came out to $135 for two people. That's probably on par for the quality of the food, but steep for us, so this will become more of a "special treat" dinner place for us. But we do want to return to sample more dishes.

The flavors were authentic and flavorful without being overly Americanized. The pork curry was absolutely delicious and is definitely a must-order. I also got the tea leaf salad and immediately wished I had ordered the large because you can never have enough tea leaf salad. The palata was a great starter -- flaky, warm, and exactly what you'd want. The miso black cod was another standout. The broth it was simmered in was incredibly flavorful, and the fish was perfectly cooked. The garlic noodles were also done really well with the right noodles and great flavor -- honestly better than some places known specifically for garlic noodles. And of course, the coconut rice is always worth ordering. We skipped dessert since nothing really stood out, but I would love to see them add more traditional Burmese desserts like faluda in the future. Parking wasn't too difficult, especially if you circle around the back neighborhood area. The wait was reasonable, the outdoor patio seating was nice, and the service was attentive throughout the meal. Definitely a spot I'd come back to when craving Burmese food.

The fish is consistently fresh, the menu is extensive, and the prices are almost unbelievable. Sashimi around $21, rolls starting at $8--good luck finding that elsewhere without sacrificing quality. This is hands-down one of the most affordable sushi options in town. Favorites you must order: the Anna Roll and the Dragon Roll. Both are excellent every single time. Tempura is solid, crisp, and dependable. Miso soup, however, is skippable--it's not their strong suit. One thing to know going in: food timing can be unpredictable. Sometimes your order comes out in 10 minutes, other times it can take over an hour. Takeout orders clearly drive the kitchen pace, and it's not always obvious how backed up they are. If you're in a rush, keep this in mind. They are cash only, but you do get a 5% discount, which honestly feels fair--and refreshing. Service is mixed. The woman who serves can be curt and a bit impatient if you're taking time with the menu. On the flip side, the man behind the counter has been there for years and genuinely loves the place. He knows the regulars, greets people warmly, and gives the restaurant its soul. King Roll isn't trendy, flashy, or crowded--and that's exactly the appeal. Clean food, great value, and a true local staple. This is the kind of place you end up eating at weekly without even thinking about it. Still one of my all-time favorites.

What I didn't realize at the time was the sheer pedigree behind it. It turns out Madcap is Michelin-rated, and Chef Ron Siegel is a celebrity chef. A Top Chef alum who headlined at legendary spots like The French Laundry and Michael Mina. Ironically, I didn't learn any of this from a food blog or Yelp. I heard it from my dentist in Vallejo. Talk about a random convo! As for the food, Chef Siegel's creations are pure joy--a celebration of culinary genius that feels genuinely divine. It's the kind of meal that evokes deep emotion; it really is magical. I can honestly say it's the best restaurant in Marin, Point Reyes included. We paired our meal with a beautiful bottle of sake by Pharrell Williams (yes, you read that right), and to top off an already incredible evening, we got to meet Chef Siegel and take a group photo with him. What a cool dude! Inside the restaurant, the decor was refined and classy, featuring rich dark wood accents and curated artwork. My only minor complaint was the seating - the wooden chair, while stylish, could have been a bit more comfortable. Overall, it was a truly lovely experience.
