    Orange chicken. Not bad, not great, but definitely overpriced.

    I decided to give it a shot because I was on the way home, they were open, and I didn't feel like cooking. Well, I don't really ever feel like cooking, but that's a different issue. The drive thru is a sloppy setup - some items are on a screen way at the beginning, and there was more of the menu by the window. No big deal, just worth mentioning. I was the only car there the entire time I was there - about 10 minutes to get my orange chicken dish. The food was OK. I wouldn't say it was great, but it wasn't bad by any means. It tasted reasonably fresh which was a pleasant surprise given how little business they seem to do (I drive by here 2-6 times a day and they are never busy). My problem is the amount of food you get for the price. I know, this is Marin, but given the "OK" food, I would expect more for the money. My orange chicken was almost $10. I've attached a picture (disclaimer: I ate a few forkfuls of the rice and one piece of chicken prior to taking the picture) and as you can see, it's not that much food. I would have happily paid $7.50 for this meal but I think $9.34 is just too much for what it is. If it was really good I'd be happy to pay more, but for mediocre, it's overpriced.

    This is the last time I come here. I used to stop here a lot as it's some what healthy drive thru when you've got kids in the car or just barely have a second to grab food, the photo attached to my review is a 3.99$ SALAD. It is the size of a SALSA. Lost my business. Never again.

    Enjoyed the connivence if not having to get of my car on a rainy day but that's where the enjoyment stops. The food was ok but waaay to expensive for the ok quality and small portions. The menu said small cup for the seaweed salad, I've attached a picture of the "cup." It's not even a 1/4 of a cup. Will not be returning

    Teriyaki chicken.

    So bad. I went here for lunch through the drive thru, all of the menu items are scattered throughout the side of the building some items on paper which was flying through the wind so you can't even read it. I ordered teriyaki chicken it looks NOTHING like the photo. There was only 3 broccoli pieces and no carrots or any other vegetables as advertised. It had pieces of ice berg lettuce in it. It's extremely greasy and I'm very disappointed. Will not be coming back

I had the black sesame asparagus - the sauce so incredible. Then the sake sashimi was melt in your mouth quality. And a couple well equipped rolls satisfied every desire. We were second in line. The doors opened, and the hostess seated a couple, a man and woman, in a booth. My wife and I, two women, were second. The hostess pointed us to a table with chairs up front. We told her we would like a booth. She said they save booths for parties of four. I pointed out the couple that had just been seated in a booth. She looked irritated and just pointed to the table with chairs. I politely asked for a booth again. She looked more irritated, and pointed to the worst booth. It was a booth on one side and chairs on the other, right behind the greeting podium. She walked away, and we sat ourselves in a normal booth. I was actually wondering if someone was going to ask us to move. The whole experience really put a damper on our night although we tried to pretend it didn't happen so we could enjoy ourselves. In addition, my hamachi was not good at all, and I have eaten a lot of hamachi in my time.

What I didn't realize at the time was the sheer pedigree behind it. It turns out Madcap is Michelin-rated, and Chef Ron Siegel is a celebrity chef. A Top Chef alum who headlined at legendary spots like The French Laundry and Michael Mina. Ironically, I didn't learn any of this from a food blog or Yelp. I heard it from my dentist in Vallejo. Talk about a random convo! As for the food, Chef Siegel's creations are pure joy--a celebration of culinary genius that feels genuinely divine. It's the kind of meal that evokes deep emotion; it really is magical. I can honestly say it's the best restaurant in Marin, Point Reyes included. We paired our meal with a beautiful bottle of sake by Pharrell Williams (yes, you read that right), and to top off an already incredible evening, we got to meet Chef Siegel and take a group photo with him. What a cool dude! Inside the restaurant, the decor was refined and classy, featuring rich dark wood accents and curated artwork. Unlike the dictionary definition of "madcap" -- wildly impulsive or chaotic -- the exquisite dining experience at this Michelin-starred restaurant is anything but. My experience was calm, intentional, playful, and deeply refined. After living in the San Francisco Bay Area since 2005, I had just learned about Madcap and was thrilled to celebrate a friend's birthday there. From the moment we were greeted by Kim at the host stand -- warm, poised, and genuinely welcoming -- we felt special. Anticipation built immediately. Our four-course prix fixe menu was printed on artisanal, handmade-feeling paper -- textured, elegant, and thoughtful. With a minimalist design aesthetic, every detail serves a purpose and is beautiful in its restraint. The luxury here is subtle but palpable. Large, colorful, whimsical paintings line the walls -- one even reminded me of Jane Fonda as Barbarella. The chopsticks and flatware are distinctive and sculptural. Nothing feels accidental or unintentional. From a 15-page beverage menu, I selected a 2023 Raventós i Blanc Blanc de Blancs Cava from Conca del Riu Anoia, Catalunya. Crisp, celebratory, and the perfect opening note. If you might assume "small courses" won't satisfy, think again. I left completely full. Welcome Snacks Before the first official course, we were surprised with a small welcoming assortment. I couldn't name each component, but they were colorful, beautifully balanced, and layered in flavor and texture -- playful yet precise. A lovely crescendo into what followed. First Course Nicasio Valley egg, lemongrass spuma, pine nuts. We chose to add the optional Black Périgord truffle. When pierced with my spoon, the bright yellow yolk blended like a brushstroke into the white of the egg. The spuma (an airy, savory foam created by aerating a sauce) added a delicate citrus-herbal lift to the richness of the egg. The pine nuts brought delightful contrast texture. Oh, and that exquisite toast! Elegant and harmonious. The delicately-shaved truffle provided a heavenly mouth-feel. Second Course Winter salad, shima aji, orange olive oil or Sunchoke tortelloni, spinach, shiitake, thyme jus One companion chose the vibrant winter salad -- stunning in color and textures including shima aji, a premium Japanese fish. I chose the sunchoke tortelloni. Although I'm usually not a fan of al dente pasta, here it worked beautifully to contrast the creamy filling. The green-tinged spinach tortelloni were visually striking and balanced by the earthy shiitake and fragrant thyme jus. Third Course Mount Lassen trout, abalone & carrot risotto, lobster cream or Flannery beef ribeye, artichoke, Banyuls, black garlic We all chose the trout. The fish was executed perfectly -- caramelized, crisp exterior, yet it flaked effortlessly into large, tender pieces with the fork. The carrot risotto leaned slightly sweet for my palate, though beautifully textured. The tiny slivers of abalone, however, were surprisingly overcooked and chewy. The lobster cream had a thinner, almost broth-like consistency and didn't meaningfully elevate the dish. For reference, Banyuls (used in the ribeye preparation) is a French fortified wine like port from the Roussillon region that creates deep, slightly sweet reductions that complement richer meats. Fourth Course Shiso panna cotta, pineapple vanilla gelée. The panna cotta was softly set, cool, and subtly sweet -- a lovely, light finish. The Japanese mint herb of shiso was subtle. The crumble beneath added wonderful contrast and texture. A small piece of pineapple was firmer than expected, though the overall composition remained balanced and refreshing. With it, I had a decaf Americano. It was so smooth and flavorful I drank it black -- and enjoyed every sip. Post-dessert course We were pleasantly surprised with a pearlized white box of what appeared to be handmade confections: caramel, a sugar-dusted berry gelée, and a ganache-filled chocolate truffle. The unexpected welcome bites and post-dessert confections made the four-course prix fixe feel even more generous and thoughtfully orchestrated. Madcap is an experience of delightful visual artistry and intentional composition. The overall execution, ambiance, and hospitality created a memorable evening. P.S. While I typically eat gluten- and dairy-free, making those substitutions would have fundamentally changed the menu. For this celebratory evening, I chose not to alter the chef's composition. We visited on 2/26/26.

The restaurant is in a nondescript pocket sized strip mall. I had my doubts, but felt we were transported somewhere else as soon as we stepped through the door. We were welcomed and seated immediately. The menu is extensive, mostly sushi and sashimi dishes. We ordered exactly the right amount for the two of us, including a special appetizer of a shrimp custard (yum), tempura shrimp (two shrimp, crispy, dipping bowl with a side of spicy daikon we could add). I ordered the Hakata Mizutaki hot pot with chicken and cabbage. My wife went for the Queen sushi roll with unagi, hamachi and sweet sauce and a small 2-piece sashimi plate. For dessert we ordered another special, a sweet potato custard that came with a generous scoop of the creamiest vanilla ice cream I've ever had. The presentation for the dessert was so special... it came in a lidded lacquer box (see photos). After recently eating in a terribly noisy restaurant, we appreciated that the sound level here was very low, making conversation easy. Our server was gracious and attentive (filling our pot of tea with hot water, and then pouring the tea for us). All of the food was fantastic. The total with tax and tip came out to $135 for two people. That's probably on par for the quality of the food, but steep for us, so this will become more of a "special treat" dinner place for us. If you have a handbag, it's placed in a canvas tote or basket so it doesn't have to be hung over the chair or on the floor. The playlist is perfect! I rarely notice music unless it's excellent or horrible or interferes with conversation. This was extremely well done--not too loud and not intrusive but a great vibe. The restroom was also nicely appointed and spotless. Service was friendly, efficient, and everyone seemed happy to be there. The tables were spaced so that servers could move around without having to worry about diners and guests didn't feel rushed or crowded. The spacing also provided for more privacy for conversations. Everything was delicious! From the red miso to sashimi to nigiri to the rolls. The presentation was amazing and the food was even better. Much of the fish is flown in from Japan daily and the rest is just caught. We ordered more dishes than we usually do in two different evenings out! It was that delicious and fresh. There is no outside dining and no takeout. Dinner only and limited seating. The focus is on a high quality, attentive enjoyable experience and they don't disappoint.
