The unagi roll barely had any eel in it. The orange chicken was fried okay but had only a drizzle of sauce. The pot stickers were very greasy, and worst of all, the beef cheung fun tasted like fish--gross. The portions were also very small for the price. Tell me of a time you went to a drive-thru that sold Japanese food, I can't. So I wouldn't be surprised if you overlook this area not making the connection between quality & convenience. HOWEVER. Give it a try. Driving up to it, not assuming much. Menu? Kinda outdated & sterile. The clipboard that holds the receipt for you to sign? Just a taped up receipt booklet. Got the spicy chicken rice plate & unagi roll. Sat down, opened up the rice, took a few bites....First bite "hm not bad" by the last bite "wow that was surprisingly good!" Chicken was tender & not overcooked; sauce wasn't too spicy, wasn't too sweet; rice was cooked perfectly; wish there were more veggies (few broccoli, few cabbages). Overall I had a great time. I decided to give it a shot because I was on the way home, they were open, and I didn't feel like cooking. Well, I don't really ever feel like cooking, but that's a different issue. The drive thru is a sloppy setup - some items are on a screen way at the beginning, and there was more of the menu by the window. No big deal, just worth mentioning. I was the only car there the entire time I was there - about 10 minutes to get my orange chicken dish. The food was OK. I wouldn't say it was great, but it wasn't bad by any means. It tasted reasonably fresh which was a pleasant surprise given how little business they seem to do (I drive by here 2-6 times a day and they are never busy). My problem is the amount of food you get for the price. I know, this is Marin, but given the "OK" food, I would expect more for the money. My orange chicken was almost $10. I've attached a picture (disclaimer: I ate a few forkfuls of the rice and one piece of chicken prior to taking the picture) and as you can see, it's not that much food. I would have happily paid $7.50 for this meal but I think $9.34 is just too much for what it is. If it was really good I'd be happy to pay more, but for mediocre, it's overpriced. read more

I overlooked this place for so long because it is pretty unassuming when you drive by despite it being right on Sir Francis drake. However I gave it a try on a whim and I was blown away. The flavorful, freshly made sushi is to die for. They make it on the spot and it tastes like it. My go to sushi spots prior were always upscale places as I am super picky- but I have not tasted anything that compares to this sushi. Don't be fooled by the low prices or the drive though - this place is amazing! It has since become a weekly spot I go to and have turned on many of my friends to. If you're looking for a quality yet quick meal don't hesitate! It's so good I even took the time to write this review because everyone should know about this place and it deserves more acclaim! I enjoyed my first order from the Edo Grill Vegetables Udon Soup was good, noodles were firm, the veggie were toothsome, but the stock was bland. Spicy Mongolian Beef Chow Fun was good across the board... good taste, good spice, but didn't blow your taste buds away. Our Door Dash drive, Martin C, was particularly good. Great personality. Headed for a play, I checked Yelp to see what was in the neighborhood and Edo Grill popped up with 3.5 stars. It proved to be a delightful surprise. Where a Jack in the Box once stood, 8 years ago an Asian couple had the imagination to add "affordable" to the lexicon describing Marin Japanese Dining. This fast food variant will not be confused with Sushi Ran or Masa. However, neither will it's prices. The sushi is freshly made and tasty. We can recommend the California roll and the fried shrimp California. The miso soup was very good. At 6:00 PM on a Thursday, we were only the third customer in the hour we were there. This grill would be a great inexpensive stop for lunch. Plenty of parking shared with Wallgreens. Drive through or dine in. read more

I went here for lunch through the drive thru, all of the menu items are scattered throughout the side of the building some items on paper which was flying through the wind so you can't even read it. I ordered teriyaki chicken it looks NOTHING like the photo. There was only 3 broccoli pieces and no carrots or any other vegetables as advertised. It had pieces of ice berg lettuce in it. This place opened about a month ago in the old Jack in the Box location in San Anselmo. I agree with Marc M. They really do need to work on their Customer Service skills. They weren't rude they just didn't do anything to be friendly.. not even one smile. Food wise it was okay. Next time if I stop by I will ask them to kick up the flavor a bit. I do like the way that you can see them grill you food right in front of you. I found the vegetables to be fresh and my portion size was more than ample. You can take your food out or you can sit inside. They did a nice job of cleaning up the place from the old Jack n the Box and they did add new tables and chairs. The place was clean... spotless to be honest. I just think since they are new and still getting to know their customers that perhaps they are working more on nerves than focusing on giving people a reason to WANT to come back. I'd say give them a try... I do wish them luck and hope they improve. After Jack n the Box left it was just this ugly empty building on Sir Francis Drak Blvd.. they have at least given us something better to look at. read more

I am confused by some of these reviews. I have never had a problem with the staff being unfriendly, quite the contrary actually. I have always been greeted with a smile. They do accept credit and debit cards, maybe it wasn't the case in the beginning? As far as the food goes...don't expect high end Chinese food. It is a drive through joint, rate it as such. The food is fast, hot and tasty once you add a little of the hot sauce to give it the kick it is missing. The miso soup is very good, as well as the chicken teriyaki and shrimp. This place is a bit weird. I've been there twice, ordered Chicken Yakisoba both times. Pros: Lots of food for your money. They make it fresh to order. Prices are very reasonable. Cons: I've always gone through the drive thru, which is great, but if there was ever anyone in front of me, the line would take FOREVER, and wouldn't be worth the wait. Food is bland. I need some Sriracha to make it complete. It's not bad, it just needs a little something to take it to the final stage of tastiness. I will be going back- mostly because there's very few places in Marin that are cheap and good, and none except this place that has a drive thru. When I'm driving my kids around, the less I have to exit the vehicle and unhitch them from their child seats, the better. I was in San Anselmo and hankering for a bite. My buddy Ford had told me the food at EDO Grill was healthy and good. First off, there must be four menus to choose from, big ones, small ones, photos here, photos there. There appeared to be two items without meat in them, I made up my mind and approached the register, imagine my surprise... one more menu............. vegetarian! I had the veggie tofu, it was rather bland, they made it fresh, brown rice Was $1 extra but well worth it. Not much personality in the gal that served me. She could have asked if I wanted it spicy, etc. I sat down and started to eat, I was hungry, it lacked flavor, I was torn, should I ask for sauce or just eat it. After the meal I approached the trash can to dispose of my paper plate and plastic fork I made eye contact with the hot sauce, but too late! Yeah, it's just not that great. The food you get will be edible but it won't look like the pictures. I had to ask for more vegetables on my teriyaki chicken because they only gave me three little tiny pieces of broccoli, even though the picture showed the dish piled with veggies. Love that its not greasy or oily like most asian fast food, but it was mostly noodles/rice. Not much veggies at all. The chow-fun was pretty much chicken on noodles with some sauce. My husband and I went through their drive-in for a quick bite - contrary to other reviews, our food was not bland, the best way to explain it was "clean Chinese food", meaning everything was surprisingly fresh and not covered with the usual sugary sauces and greasy oils found in Chinese cooking. We had the grilled salmon, orange chicken and a caterpillar roll. The portions were incredibly fair for the price and were abundant. I will say that the owners are late in age and not over the top "in your face" friendly, however, they were both very communicative and did smile quite a bit. As a small business owner myself, I'm in huge support of local business so I'm not going to write Edo Grill off quite yet - we would definitely go back and appreciate the fact that they are based on a healthy FAST FOOD business model, no one greets you at Subway, Burger King, or In & Out, you wait in line, order and sit - same premise here. I've ordered "to go" from Edo Grill several times now. They opened a drive thru window, which is great. The food is very good, fresh, and healthy. I especially like they don't smother the food in a lot of slick sauces. I ordered the Chicken Teriyaki combo and the Yakatori, and they were excellent. The egg rolls are light and crunchy, and the portions are very generous. It is a bargain for the price, and delicious and healthy too. There's even a kid's chicken and rice meal on the menu. I found the service attentive, efficient , pleasant and friendly enough! They made the food to order in less than 4 minutes. I will definitely be back. yum! i had the chicken yakisoba, and it was really good. it was cooked right in front of me, so i know it was fresh (and it definitely tasted so), served with a generous portion of chicken (and not gross fast-food chicken), not greasy and well-flavored. i could see how some people might like a little more flavor, but that'd be easily remedied by asking for a bit more sauce. my husband had the mushroom and veggies over noodles. he liked mine better, but did enjoy his meal, too. we both agreed it was great to have some healthier fast food options. the service was fast, it was inexpensive, they did take credit cards (maybe the first reviewer came here before they had that set up) and they were quite friendly. i'll be back and i'm definitely appreciating the healthier choices brought to you by a family-owned and run business. read more

It's not 5-star as in fancy-expensive-gourmet, but for what it is I am a huge fan. I love the quirky adaptation of the old jack-in-the-box drive through; it's not any faster than going inside but you don't need to get out of your car. The food is very fresh, the staff - who I think are also the owners - are friendly and helpful (though their english is limited). I have food allergies and they offered to prepare something special to accommodate my needs. The prices are reasonable. I go here often. read more

I think it would be so awesome to have a real healthy drive thru where you could pick up some fresh, unprocessed food when you are In a hurry . The key to making it fast would be very limited choices... Beverages could be fresh juices , smoothies and teas. If it was Japanese that would be interesting. But Edo Grill is more like a greasy Chinese place with a few low quality sushi items. All the drinks are high fructose corn syrup choices like Snapple and soda .. Sometimes I take my son there to get sushi to eat in the car when we are in a hurry. I won't eat the food. I usually regret it since it takes so long and I don't feel like he is getting a healthy, hearty lunch. It's about a step up from any other drive thru and not significantly better. read more
