wow some of the best thai food ive had. gao lhao is inspired by thailand's chinatown and has such a huge variety of dishes. their menu is extensive but it is super helpful that they have pictures for all of their items. the dishes also vary in flavor profiles so there is something for everyone. portions are HUGE and would recommend going with a big group to try all the dishes. spicy pork jowl tossed yum style noodles - ramen noodles with a truly tom yum flavor, also quite spicy but delicious (salivating thinking about it) and the pork jowl was to die for bha mee hang - reminds me of another staple chinese dry noodle dish, came with char siu, wonton, crispy pork belly, and we added crab calamari salad with salted egg - pretty standard but nice to have veggies love this spot and absolutely will be coming back read more

Familiar with Isarn and Kin Len, so naturally I found out about Gao Lhao when they were first opening. Finally got around to trying after a weekend of walking. Wait went by fast and service was wonderful. Noodles were delicious, plentiful, and great value. Appetizers on the other hand, I thought were less exciting. House-made Crispy Chive Cakes - super similar to a Korean seafood pancake, almost like a cousin to the Korean classic. Same texture without the protein as this appetizer is vegan friendly. Not super crispy, the interior mash of chives makes up a bulk of the texture. Tastes very oily and heavy, would not be on my list to order again. Fish Sauce Wings - my friends and I have been to a place in South Seattle that does it best, so we're definitely biased. These wings weren't as crispy and flavorful, but they're still decent. Chicken wasn't dry, skin was fried once, and the fish sauce was light. They do provide fish sauce on the side, but I think the chicken itself could use more seasoning prior to frying. Worth ordering again, but I'd come here mainly for noodles. Bha Mee Hang Bowl - I got option 3 with crab, pork, and egg. All of the bowls come with a generous portion of tasty dry egg noodles. Savory, bouncy, springy, and quite QQ. I was pleasantly surprised with the proteins. A few bites of crab meat, some decently crispy pork belly (the specialty spots in Chinatown do it crispier, obviously), sweet char siu, and a soft boiled egg! Only complaint, which isn't too reasonable, is that the vegetables are mainly end pieces and not leafy greens. Would love a better mixture. read more

So happy we checked out Gao Lhao. I'm a big fan of Kin Len, so I was excited to see what this spot had to offer. Overall, everything we ordered was good, with the standout being the spicy pork jowl tossed noodles. It's a cold noodle dish, which we didn't expect, but the flavors were spot on and tasted incredibly fresh. The spicy beef salad was pretty standard and a bit under-seasoned, and the steak itself was just okay. The XO noodles leaned a little bland as well, though the seafood quality was good. One dish I wouldn't recommend is the mango sticky rice. The rice was not sticky and felt quite undercooked. Since they use black rice, which requires more time and care, it's something that could definitely be improved. We visited on a Saturday around 3 pm and still had about a 30-minute wait, which was a bit unexpected. The restaurant also seemed slightly understaffed, as service was slower and we waited a while to be attended to. Despite that, I'd still be interested in coming back to explore more of the menu. read more

Great ambience with a mellow dim lighting and lots of decor. The Tom Yum Moo had crispy pork belly that we found a bit dry but the soup was not oily and light with a tomato forward taste. The char siu in it was your average char siu, not dry. The yaowarat street curry was our favorite! It's super flavorful without being heavy despite being a thicker curry consistency and the chicken was not dry. I loved the refreshing-ness of the cucumber salad to balance the curry. The dragonfruit drink was alright. It tasted good but it was described as fizzy which it wasn't. But it was refreshing. I decided to try their Tom Yum Soup and calamari appetizers and they were both pretty good! The Tom yum soup was pretty flavorful and I enjoyed the meat that came with it. However, there was a decent amount of lemongrass bits in the soup that I wished wasn't a part of it. The calamari was pretty good. The battered wasn't heavy and it was crispy and easy to chew. The service was good. The food didn't take long to make. I went during the night this time and it looks pretty at that time because of the lighting. Flavor-wise, it was delicious and definitely hit the spot. The broth was solid, and while it's not the absolute best khao soi I've ever had, it's still very satisfying. One highlight was the chili oil--definitely try dipping the chicken in it if you like a bit of heat, it's really good. One small note: you do have to ask for chopsticks if you want them. Located in the Green Lake area, GAO Lhao is a beautiful spot with a great atmosphere. We ordered the Bha Mee Hang, and it was easily the highlight. Not only did it look amazing, but it tasted just as good. It came loaded with Dungeness crab, crispy pork belly, BBQ pork, wontons, and egg. The portion was generous honestly enough to feed two people. We also tried the crispy pork belly wontons, chicken skewers, fish sauce wings, and a Thai tea slush. Let me start this off by saying this is the prettiest restaurant I have been to, ever. It's beautifully decorated, lots of plants, plenty of seating. We sat at the bar, and my 6'5 husband had plenty of leg room. Only thing I would change is to add coat/purse hooks under the bar. Service was absolutely fantastic. From the bartender to the runners not a single complaint, every request was promptly made. Food was not only top tier in quality, flavor, and size, but also price. Searched for a new-to-us restaurant on Google on a recent Friday afternoon and decided to pop into Gao Lhao based solely on the reviews. Given the day and time, we expected a wait but were seated right away. We ordered the Fish Sauce Wings and Crispy Wontons for starters, then finished by sharing a bowl of the Mama Tom Yum. The Fish Sauce Wings were a revelation -- I never thought fish flavor on chicken would taste good, let alone amazing. We loved the wontons, but the Mama Tom Yum stole the show. Finally tried Gao Lhao Bangkok Noodle Shop and I'm already planning my next visit. Everything tasted authentic and full of flavor. The boat house noodle soup had a rich, savory broth topped with tender slices of meat, fish ball, crispy garlic, and herbs that tied everything together. The steak fried rice dish was just as good - creamy, aromatic, and packed with bold flavors. Pairing it with rice made it even better. We also enjoyed their thai iced coffee - and I'm looking forward to trying their slushies when it gets warmer out. But wow, it was all exquisite, and very different from most Thai food I've had in the area. I will admit though, it's my own fault. I fall victim to the trap of ordering something like drunken noodles whenever I'm in the mood for Thai. I've learned my lesson though, and I will be back to experiment for more. One dish that sticks out in my mind: Some sort of fish-sauce-forward chicken wings. These were very high on the crispy scale, a nice well-done wing. Restaurant might be known for Thai food, but I consider it more of an overall Asian fusion spot. The ambiance was phenomenal, very beautiful, and creative. Some seating can be a bit difficult to reach because the tables are very close together, especially the high-top tables. The service was excellent as well, with no complaints at all. Thai Pandan Leaf Chicken -- I suspect they steamed the chicken wrapped in the leaf and then fried it. The leaf was oily and clearly showed signs of frying, but the meat inside didn't taste fried at all. It was just okay, and there wasn't any noticeable pandan flavor. I'd recommend choosing a different appetizer instead. Crispy Pork Wontons - Highly recommended. Tasty and crispy. I loved the sweet and spicy sauce. Sukiyaki is a Japanese nabemono (hot pot), and we tried the premium seafood portion. It was a wonderful portion for the price. The tiger prawns were good quality, and you should definitely mix the egg into the pot before adding the other ingredients. There was a lot of food, enough to fill the entire table, and it's perfect for sharing with about 3-4 people. The set also included tung ho, napa cabbage, yu choy, mushrooms, tofu, glass noodles, scallops, crab claw, mussels, wild cod, and squid. You really can't go wrong with a hot pot. Bha Mee Hang Bowl (Dungeness crab, crispy pork belly, BBQ pork, pork wontons, onsen egg) -- Also highly recommended. While the dish leans toward fusion, as a Chinese diner, it brought back some nostalgic memories. The dry egg noodles were nicely bouncy, and the flavors had a pleasant balance of sweetness with a garlicky aroma. Some of the BBQ pork pieces were on the fattier side, but the pork belly had just the right amount of crispiness. Overall, it was a very satisfying bowl. I'd definitely come back to try other dishes. The ambience is very modern. We were a group of 4 and went on a Friday night around 7:10ish and the wait time was about an hour. Our table was ready after roughly 50 minutes, but when we walked in, the place smelled strongly of fish, which was a huge turn off for me. I ordered the chicken northern curry soup, which was pretty underwhelming the noodles tasted like instant noodles. We also ordered spring rolls for the table, but they were very bland. The server came across a bit judgmental when we requested one of the curry with rice and not the noodles and didn't provide chopsticks with our noodle soup, which was disappointing. This was my second time trying to get a meal at Gao Lhao and we finally succeeded! The hype is no joke; even on a weekday night there is a long line out the door. The trick is to put yourself on the waitlist but hang out around the bar area. If there is an opening at the bar, you can seat yourself! This is probably the best way to get a spot if you're dining solo, since there are tons of solo bar spots. We got the Bha Hang Mee (w/ crab and pork belly) and the XO Noodles. Even though both dishes were pretty noodle heavy, the tastes were completely different. I felt like all the ingredients were very fresh, especially the seafood. I liked the pork belly in the Bha Hang Mee the most, it was so crispy and flavorful. I also enjoyed the poached egg as well. For dessert, we got the Bua Loy Nam Khing - glutinous rice balls filled w sesame, served in a gingko tea. This was fabulous. I am used to having tangyuan (the Chinese version of the rice balls), so I wasn't sure what to expect. I think the sesame paste here is homemade and so it feels stronger than a store-bought tangyuan. The gingko tea is nice and warm to go along with the rice balls; a little strong on the ginger but I didn't mind. I LOVED this dessert - and the presentation just made it better. We came on Sunday night and we waited about 15-20 mins for a table for two. They're known for their noodle dishes, particularly their egg noodle dish. I got their Tom Yum noodle soup, and it had flavorful Tom Yum flavor, though I wish it was a little spicer. The crispy duck spring roll was piping hot and stuffed with duck. Gao Lhao has been on my radar screen since early August. I had the opportunity to give it a try earlier this month with fellow Yelp Elite All Star, Carol C (10/11/25). Gao Lhao is a vibrant Thai - Chinese spot in Seattle's Green Lake neighborhood, same complex where the PCC is located. Experienced staff at this restaurant/bar spot, since they are owned by the same folks from Kin Len Thai Night Bites (Fremont) and Isarn Thai Soul Kitchen (Lynnwood, Kirkland, and Seattle in Ravenna & Queen Anne). We tag team drove from Edmonds via I-5. Carol found street parking, I ended up in the underground parking garage shared with PCC and other retail sites. Note: Gao Lhao does not validate. Unless you bought something at PCC, you pay at the kiosk upon exiting. For a little over 2 hours, I paid under $9. Our visit was on a Saturday afternoon, no reservations, and had a brief wait before being seated. This gave me the opportunity to admire the nice interior from the front dining area and surrounding seating proximate to the bar. We had fairly attentive, unobtrusive service during the two hours we were there. We ended up ordering the following: *Crispy Duck Spring Rolls ($14) Roasted duck with cabbage, carrot, sweet corn, scallion with hoisin and sweet plum dipping sauces. Definitely crisp and flavorful. *Braised Duck Noodles ($20) Duck quarters (drumstick & thigh), yu choy, and egg noodles. Lucked out with two succulent quarters, generous veg & noodles! *Iconic Yaowarat Street Curry ($19.50) Rich curry paste with sliced beef, Chinese sausage, winter melon, and soft boiled egg. Served with steamed rice. Savory, creamy and paired great with the rice. *Bha Mee Hang Bowl ($24) Dungeness crab, BBQ pork, crispy pork belly, pork wontons, and an onsen egg atop dry egg noodles with garlic oil and cilantro. Wow - this is one of those entrees that had it all. We ordered too much, however, had generous leftovers split between us to take home.
