My husband and I were randomly craving Detroit style pizza and found this gem of a place! The restaurant is a bit tricky to find since it's on the second floor and you have to walk through a super narrow patio of another restaurant. The eating area is small and only has two tables, but i'm sure that's because everyone does takeout. We opted to eat there with our 2 kiddos and honestly it was really hot inside. The AC wasn't on and the water served to us wasn't cold, BUT the pizza was delicious! the double pepperoni could definitely use more pepperoni since it was just a single sparse layer, however it was tasty the way it came.
I'd heard about Fuji & Vi's years ago but never got around to visiting since it's a bit of a drive. We happened to be in the area recently and decided to finally stop by. If you're visiting with a stroller, I'd recommend leaving it behind if possible. There are no elevators and while ADA-accessible ramps are available, they were somewhat out of the way. The walkways are also very narrow, with tables from neighboring eateries further limiting the space. The restaurant itself is quite small, with only three indoor tables that seat four people each, no outdoor seating available. Since all the tables were occupied, we opted for takeout. When we arrived, no one was at the counter so we had to ring the bell to get assistance. The Detroit-style pizza was delicious and definitely lived up to expectations. The crust was perfectly crispy, and the pizza had great flavor overall. My only major complaint was the temperature inside the restaurant. The thermostat was showing 87 degrees, and it felt very warm. Standing inside for just a few minutes while ordering was uncomfortable so I can't imagine dining in and enjoying a hot pizza in those conditions. Despite the heat and limited seating, the pizza itself was delicious and worth trying if you're in the area.
Yummy Detroit style pizzas with a great weeknight pizza deal (buy one get one 50%). Fed my little family of 3 and even had a couple slices for lunch the next day. Great flavor and good amount of toppings/cheese. The lady at the front was so nice. One warning though, the salads come pretty dressed so don't order it and then drive home with one hour traffic because they will be supremely soggy. I should have asked for dressing on the side.
We ordered the double pepperoni pizza. It was amazing. What a surprise. The Detroit style lives on. The crust was crispy all around. The ingredients were super high quality. The sauce was perfectly tangy. The cheese was oozy and had the pull we all love on a pizza. We enjoyed the meal to the last bite. The shop was small and hidden but was soooo busy. There was a consistent flow of foot traffic's for being on the 2nd floor. Friday night to go orders were many and a few diners. The place does not have a restroom so maybe others knew better. It was a great place for a quick yummy bite. The service was delightful and sweet. It only took 15 minutes for a 4 squared pizza. We will definitely be back for more!
Ordered a couple of pizzas and some cheese sticks for an easy dinner after work and was pleasantly surprised since it was my first time trying Fuji & Vi's. I loved the BBQ chicken pizza a lot, it had great flavor, but I'm a weirdo that doesn't love a lot of sauce on pizza and the default here is a bit too much for me. The crust has a great crisp and the pizzas are cooked well. I'm glad they added cheese sticks to the lineup although this was a while ago and they only had the basic with Italian seasoning--menu says they have specialty ones now and I'ma have to try those out. It's located upstairs above Hummus Labs on Colorado, nice and convenient location!
Really amazing food! This is located upstairs at the corner of Colorado and Mentor, in what I like to call the restaurant corner (seriously, there are a ton of small Mom and Pop restaurants in that corner that you all should go check out!). So, I was impressed by the reviews and wanted something different to eat. It was my first time there and the employee behind the counter was just so nice and patient as he explained everything! I ended up getting the 4-slice pepperoni and a small Greek salad. Now, listen...their 'small' salad is rather big! Like it can easily feed 2-3 people. And the pizza 4-slice can easily feed 2-3. So you need to be aware of that. There was a little wait but everything came out amazing! The pizza was prepared just right and the salad was so delicious! I would literally go back for the salad alone. Now they're located upstairs so wheelchair accessibility might be an issue, but it is so worth it! You won't be disappointed!
Another good time here. I'm a big fan of Detroit style pizza and this place did not disappoint. The player deluxe is always on point. I wasn't the biggest fan of the Hawaiian version. If you look at it, it didn't really look all the way ready. The ingredients needed just a little more sizzle. There wasn't much space inside. While we waited, there was no one inside and many people making deliveries. Then there was a surge. We ended up going. Service is nice. Lady is friendly.
(Would give 3.5 stars!) Tried this place because I am on the hunt for good Detroit style pizza! The BBQ chicken pizza was good, I loved the sauce but the chicken was a little dry. The double pepperoni pizza was also good, but I wish it was cooked more in the middle. Overall, solid spot. The best part is for sure the cheesy edges of the pizza. & they do have a good deal Tu/Wed/Thurs BOGO 50% for 4 square pizzas!
I have been wanting to try this Asian family owned Detroit style pizza joint for some time, as it has always had a lot of hype around it. Unfortunately, it proved to not really be for my tastes. I will mention, as maybe this was an issue, that the day I chose to go was of course the odd day where they had some sort of "emergency" and didn't open their doors until hours after usual, so maybe their game was off. Located in a small Pasadena strip mall, the parking is on the side street and goes up to the second floor, which is where the pizza place is located anyway along with an Indian restaurant and a couple more businesses. The place is incredibly tiny, clearly meant for take out and not at all for dine in. There are three 4-people tables total and no bathrooms for customers. Went right when they opened and got a large Caesar salad, which was pretty good. The problem were the two four square pizzas. And the biggest trouble was the sauce, which is way too sweet in my opinion. I got the plain cheese and one with black olives and Italian sausage, which was more generous with the olives than the spare sausage. I didn't think it was anything special. Then again, I have been to the main places in Detroit and not been wowed there either. Still, this wasn't as good as other Detroit pizzas I've tried, so unfortunately I can't recommend it from my experience.
So, I was looking for something new and came across this pizza joint. Don't be fooled by their name, this place has probably one of the most delicious Detroit style pizza. Their 4 squares was more than what I had expected. 2 slices filled me up! Location is on the second floor, almost hidden but don't worry, to locate it, just walk west, towards lake st once you're upstairs, it's wrapped around the little brunch spot. You can actually miss it if you're not too familiar. Pizza. Astounding. Definitely fresh ingredients. Tastes like Detroit style. Massive amount of cheese but not too much where it's overpowering. The pepperoni were the right amount as they double up the layers, hence the name. The workers were quick to attend to our needs. Service was definitely what you'd expect for a restaurant. However , dining location indoors only is quite small, maybe about 3-4 tables with shut 4 seats to each. Overall, I would come back and try their other pies, we love pizza and this is our new favorite place to visit when we're in the area!
We went on a Sunday afternoon and service was prompt and friendly. They were able to do half half for us since we have kids who like just plain cheese. The employee also gave us great recommendations since it was our first time. The store is clean and bright and airy. Since it overlooks the street, the kids could watch the cars driving by from our seat by the window. The Greek salad was delicious and a great flavor - definitely worth ordering. The pizza came out deliciously hot and crispy on the outside. Their Detroit style pizza is filling! Parking here is great with a ramp up to a rooftop parking lot and there were plenty of spaces.
The lady who took my owner is this sweet japanese lady. I think she owns the place. She's very nice. I've never had detroit style pizza... and I really enjoyed their pizza. The dough is soft inside with crunchy sides & bottom. I love how they did not skimp on the toppings. If you've never had detroit style pizza... this is a good place to try them
This is the best pizza I've had in a long time. I love pizza so much to the point my hubby has to close my eyes when there is a commercial for pizza lol So when I say the cheese and sauce on this pizza is immaculate. They really took their time and perfected their craft, I'm super impressed and will definitely be ordering again. I ordered take out and it was still so hot and good. Next time I'm going in.

This is one of my favorite pizza places now. The photo gallery in their website totally does the pizza justice. It is as good as it photographs! I never had Detroit-style pizza. I don't take part in the Great Pizza Debate with regional styles vying for Best Pizza Ever. Pizza is either good or it's average. The flavors and textures between cheese, crust and sauce are either balanced and each component delicious, or the magic just doesn't happen. Whenever I try thick, rectangular pizza slices I'm always disappointed in either sauce, cheese, or crust. I always hoped that pizza would taste like these slices. This pizza is the paradigm of what a thick square slice of pizza should be-- a sauce that is deliciously balanced between sweet, tangy, and savory-- the perfect intermediary between cheese and carbs. Speaking of carbs, a nice thick crust, just doughy enough to feel your teeth sink into, but with the edges perfectly carmelized to support the slice as it makes its way to your pizza pie-hole. The cheese was-- well, cheese, but cheese that goes all the way to the edge of the crust, caramelized to a deep golden brown against the pie pan. On this maiden visit, we tried both the Margherita and the Biggio. The Biggio is their version of a meat lover's pizza-- pepperoni, Italian sausage, ham, and bacon. The ham and bacon, however, lent a smoky flavor -- almost too barbecue-ish -- for a non-bbq pizza. I know this is Detroit pizza but it was almost a little too un-Italian to us. The Margherita pizza, on the other hand, was crave-worthy. The cheese, sauce, and crust converged into a balance of flavor -- sweet, savory, and tangy, as well as texture -- doughy, crispy, the cheesy stretchiness, the caramelized edges.... I thought this slice was pizza, pure and simple, delicious in its simplicity. Even the tomato slices seemed to be cut the right thickness. I got ours to-go and tried calling ahead-- several times. No go, so I had to order when I got there. The pizzaria (suite #203) lives on the second floor of a two story mini-mall, overlooking the street-side dining lanes on Colorado. The parking lot is also on the second floor which is convenient, the entrance of which is on Mentor, just south of Colorado. Our order took 20 minutes to prepare-- well worth the wait. We also ordered a Caesar salad. Their Caesar was a mix of iceberg and romaine and was fine. Just know that their Caesar salads are tossed-- a dealbreaker for some if you're not into lifeless salads. Just remember this if you're ordering to-go and have to drive a ways before digging in. There is no soda fountain in the restaurant. Beverages are canned. After trying their pizza I appreciate this. I also liked how their menu is simple-- there are just two salads offered and most importantly their pizza, but really, their pizza is all you'll really need. Fuji and VI's Detroit-style pizza is one of the best I've had in a long time. Pizza is one of my favorite foods, and I've had some delicious pies across the country and in some spots outside. Napoleon style to Chicago deep dish, New York to Chicago LA to Detroit,My favorite is Detroit-style pizza, and Fuji and VI's really brings it home. I found out about Fuji and VI's when their Detroit-style pizza appeared on the top 100 list for best pizza places in the world. They're located on Colorado Boulevard in Pasadena, about a 20-mile drive from me. I waited 45 minutes for them to open at 11:30 AM, but it was worth it. Pasadena can get very busy and parking can be tricky, so I wanted to get there early. This was my first time trying the place out, and they're located on the second level, which can be hard to spot from the street. However, there's parking in the rear. Everything about this place is worth it! I ordered an eight-square pizza with a half-margarita, half-Biggio topping. The people were very friendly, which I appreciate and love. But the best part was the pizza! I took my two doggies with me, so we took the pizza to go. The place is small with about three tables. When I got to my truck, I wanted to taste the pizza while it was hot, so I decided to have a bite. I gotta tell you, from the first bite, that square of pizza never had a chance! It was so delicious, cheesy, and meaty--awesome! I licked my fingers after as well. There are other places that make a Detroit-style pizza, but I'll be going to Fuji and VI's for some time to come. When I lived in Detroit about 40 years ago, my favorite place was Buddy's pizza. I would always go when I visited Detroit, and sometimes relatives and friends would send me a couple of pies. Buddy's also used to deliver frozen pizzas to you in the mail. It's been years since then, and Detroit-style pizza has been popping up in various places. I've even seen a Detroit-style pizza at Costco. If you're a pizza lover, especially a Detroit-style pizza lover, then Fuji and VI's Detroit-style pizza is the place to go! They're hands-down one of the best Detroit-style pizza you'll ever have. read more
I've been on the hunt for the best Detroit style pizza in LA and recently tried this spot. Quite the generous size for the 8 slice, though I thought they'd be a little more generous with the toppings when ordering a double pepperoni -- this was a little shy (see pic) I'd give this a solid 4.5 stars. Crust is crispy, nice caramel cheese lace climbing the sides, spongey and doughy crust base to it. Tomato sauce had an earthy herby flavor, but still worked. This was ordered through UberEats and definitely arrived room temperature and needed some time in the oven after arrival. Solid spot for Detroit pizza, I'd happily get it again. read more
We called and ordered a 1/2 classic and 1/2 Biggio in the 8 square to go. They said 25 mins. Was ready when we came to pick up. Nice and hot until we got home. It's On the 2nd floor. You could eat there but looked like most people were picking up. I think there's a parking lot at the back. This pizza was delicious!! The crust was the Right blend of doughy and crispy. The tomato sauce and the cheese....yummy. Two squares are very filling. A 4 square is enough for two people. My new go to pizza place I think. read more

How has nobody posted about this place! I'm sitting here in the parking lot scarfing down these slices! 4 square or 8 squares. The 8 squares, you can do 1/2 & 1/2. I got spicy Italian and margherita. Try the margherita first cuz that spicy Italian is gonna kick your taste buds! I'm sweating from the Calabrian chili sauce! The crust is crispy and crunchy! I need to go back and try the other specialty pies! Small place upstairs. Three tables that seatsfour. The owner is so nice and helpful. I wanted to try the margherita. That is my go to. He helped me decide the other half! No regrets! He says he's been at this place a little over a year! GO SUPPORT THIS GUY!!! Detroit style pizza so close to home!!!!!!!!!! Overdue for this review, but better late than never! Love this place! Came here on a fly as a friend referred me here and I was impressed, definitely a tucked away diamond in Pasadena. I loved it so much that I cane back! Tried the float and it's made with Vernon's ginger ale instead of regular Cañada dry! I said hmm I grew up with Canada Dry, so the owner was nice and he did a fun little experiment l. I did a blind taste test of Canada Dry verses Vernon's! And YUP!!! I'm sold lol Vernon's is wayyy better than Canada Dry and the float went perfectly with my tasty pizza!!! Gotta love and appreciate Great customer service! read more

Solid Detroit-style pizza joint in Pasadena. Ordered through one of the delivery services, so I didn't get to see the actual shop. If you haven't had Detroit-style pizza, it's basically a rectangular pan pizza with a thick crust. Ordered the following: - Cheese 4 slice pizza with pepperoni, sausage and mushroom - 7.5/10: very good and filling. Loaded with pizza sauce (maybe more than the cheese). Crust is thick as expected. The four slices are more than enough for one, I'd say. Would definitely come back and recommend, especially if you're bored of the standard thin crust type of pizza. read more
If you're looking for very good authentic Detroit-style pizza, you've come to the right place. Fuji & Vi's is run by a lovely couple, and the restaurant is named after the owners' grandmothers. It's on the second floor of a plaza in Pasadena, on the other side of the street from CAR artisan chocolate (for you croissant connoisseurs), so it may be a little harder to find but they have a parking lot in the back of the building with an ample amount of spots. We ordered The Classic 4-square pizza at the front and waited about 15-20 minutes for the pizza to come out. Most people who came by got their pizza to-go that night and some ordered on the phone beforehand. They have a few tables and chairs inside for dine-in. It came out piping hot, and they gave us three shaker bottles of grated parmesan, oregano, and red chili flakes to pair with the pizza. The edges were nice and crispy from the cheese, and the middle was soft and chewy. The toppings were flavorful but well-balanced and not overly salty--a great classic pepperoni Detroit-style pizza in my book. I will definitely be back to try their other flavors in the future, especially one with pineapple because I am a pineapple on pizza lover. read more
I had a very bad experience at a chain pizza place last night while stuck at work. I was in the Pasadena area today and thought I might make up for my bad experience from the previous night. I found this spot on Yelp and thought I'd give it a try. I'm a huge fan of Detroit style pizza. This pizza place is not your average pizza place. It does not feel like a pizza spot at all. I don't really know how to describe it but it just feels like a different kind of restaurant. Not a bad thing but different. They serve a very legit Detroit style pizza here. It's not the best I've ever had but it's very good. I really enjoyed the sauce and if I'm not mistaken I heard a mixer going in the back room. I'm assuming they make their own dough. It appears to be a family run restaurant and the service is as good as you would expect being family run. Another great thing about this place is it's very reasonable in my opinion. read more

I recently discovered Detroit style pizza and now I am on a quest to try as many Detroit style pizza places as possible. I was in the Pasadena area and found Fuji & Vi's on Yelp. I ordered an 8 square pepperoni pizza to go. This is only the 3rd Detroit style pizza I have tried, so I don't have much to compare it too, but I'd say it's pretty darn good. It's very cheesy and I love how the edges are so crusty. The dough is a softer consistency rather than the foccacia like consistency I've had from the other 2 Detroit style pizzeria I've tried. I wish they'd put more pepperoni on the pizza though. Prices were reasonable. It was $20.50 plus tax for the 8 square pepperoni pizza. I'd definitely return here to try their other flavors, such as the bbq chicken pizza. The restaurant is tiny and is on a 2nd floor of an outdoor shopping plaza. You have to climb some stairs to get there. read more
If you're looking for Detroit style pizza here in LA, look no further! For those new to this category of pizza, Detroit style pizza is a rectangular pan pizza built in reverse. The dough is directly layered with the cheese (typically Wisconsin brick cheese), and then topped with tomato sauce. If you're getting a Detroit pizza with toppings, the toppings are often buried underneath the cheese and sauce so that the flavors seep in and penetrate every bite. This style of pizza is also known for its chewy crust with crispy edges, especially along those coveted corners. All to say, Detroit style pizza is perfection, and most definitely my favorite kind of pizza! So when I finally learned that there's actually a Detroit style pizzeria near me, I kicked myself for not realizing this life-altering fact sooner. I then immediately drove over, desperate to sate my curiosity. Upon arriving, I realized I had actually been to this plaza a dozen times before and yet somehow I never noticed the pizzeria. Insert another dose of self-criticism here. To be fair, the shop is on the second floor of this unassuming plaza and it's not exactly noticeable from the street. Anyways, I decided to keep it somewhat old school and ordered the Margherita pizza. The pizza was everything I was hoping it would be! Portion-wise, the 4-square was definitely enough for me, myself, and I. I actually started to get full mid- third slice, but me being me (aka having ZERO willpower when it comes to food), I pushed past my limits and finished it all. My stomach may have been shouting "no more, please no more!" But my taste buds were definitely telling me "you can do this, I believe in you!" Haha. My cravings won, clearly. read more

A little bit late to write this review but oh my gosh, Fuji & Vi's is so good. I have never had Detroit Style pizza before but I can saw now that I'm a fan. My friend and I picked up a couple of pizzas to try and decided on The Classic and Contradiction. Both were so good and very filling. We shared two 8 square pizzas between three people and maybe only ended up eating half total. The pizzas were loaded with lots of toppings but nicely balanced with the sauce and dough. This location can be found on the top level, parking is also available on the second level, and it's definitely a hidden gem. It's a small place with maybe 6 tables but it seems like most customers order and take it home. The lady who helped us out was so friendly and answered our questions since it was our first time here. I'll definitely be getting cravings for Fuji & Vi's pizza and can't wait to try more options! read more
Is this the best pizza I've had? No. I do prefer the thin crust. Pizza here is solid though. I wish I ate it fresh because when I got home it was already soggy. However, when I had patience and reheated the rest of the pieces it was a world of difference. Would try again but it eat at the spot rather than being nice and bringing it home to my family. read more

Great little hole in the wall. Definitely family owned and if you don't place an order ahead you're going to wait ~20 minutes for your pizza. One of the nest pizzas I've had, crunch on the crust is great, sauces are great, cheese pull 10/10. On the second floor of the building and the owners are just great. 8 square pizza perfect to share with another person! read more
During my visit I was greeted by the owner. I was craving Detroit style pizza and found this on Yelp. They do not sell pizza by the slice. All pizzas are made to order, be patient if not you can always call ahead. I ordered a classic and added red onion. I wanted pepperoni on half but the owner mentioned the 4 piece was too small so he couldn't make any modifications. The Classic- 10/10 Crispy and flavorful. The sauce was great and had a savory taste with no hints of sugar added. I would definitely come back again and try their veggie pizza. read more

Had to try this place out because of the great yelp rating, and it definitely did not disappoint. Probably the best pizza I've had in the area. The cheesy crispy crust is amazing, worth a trip just to try the crust. The ingredients were very fresh and each part of the pizza was delicious and complemented the other parts well. This is detroit style pizza, which is a thicker pan style pizza, but it did not feel dough part of the pizza did not feel heavy like other pan pizzas I have tried. Definitely try out the crust, you will be addicted too! read more

Pizza Pies done right! Detroit style! Just look at those cheesy crusts. Thick, cheesy (cheese pull a 10), generous toppings, did I mention the cheesy crusts?! BF got the pepperoni and I got the "Argument" (ham & pineapple)...I know, I know. What can I say, I'm from the islands, I love pineapple ! Very reasonable price point. The sodas are $1.50 whaaaat? Who does that these days?! The place is small, only 3 tables but this place gets a lot of pick up orders. Met one of the owners, Michael. Originally from Jersey. Very nice guy who we chatted with and learned how he and his wife started this place. Such a cool and nice guy. All in all, we were happy and our tummies were happy! We'll be back! read more

Service was good. Pizzas took 15 mins to make. I got the 4 square. I think it was indeed tasty but you gotta have it fresh and hot out of the oven. Sometimes cold pizza tastes great, but I think for something with a thicker crust eating it fresh is best. Free parking in the back and underground. read more

I’m a bit disabled. Is there an elevator to the second level?
If you enter from the side street S. Mentor, there is a upper level parking lot. It does have a ramp which allows access to the second floor businesses.
Why is it called Fuji &Vi? Who is Fuji? Great pizza!
The owners named it after the wife's mother, Fuji, and the husband's grandmother, Violet.
Will Fuji & Vis have gluten free options available?
