This place is definitely a diamond in the rough. It's located on the second floor of this plaza, but one really nice perk is that the building has it's own dedicated lot which you can access of Mentor. Pizza is amazing. Super crispy crust and I love mine with a little extra sauce on top, which the guy only recommends if you dine-in. Pizza can take a bit, I'd budget like 30 min after ordering. But it's still just as good as quarter sheets in echo park without the 2 hr wait. Inside is pretty bare bones, just has three tables that can fit four each. No public bathroom (you can use the Pasadena hotel lobby bathroom across Mentor in a pinch). When it gets busy they don't usually pick up the phone as they're usually slammed with online or walk-in orders. The one guy always working can be a bit aloof, but he works hard and is reasonable, so just give him some grace. read more

All the great Yelp reviews caught our eye for this pizza place, and we came by for some deep dish pizza. This place is a little hidden. There is parking structure in the back. I parked on the street and walked in from the front. We went upstairs and made a right to get to this pizza place. There was a guitar next to the cashier. I wonder if that is a decoration or there will be live music one of these days. Chef/cashier was friendly, and he gave us good recommendation of the pizza. We ordered a 4 squares pepperoni and a 4 square argument (pineapple and ham). It took them 15 minutes to prepare, which I do not mind. The pizza came out very hot and fresh. One of the yelp elites mentioned about the secret spicy, and we asked for it. The pizza tasted awesome by itself, and adding the secret spicy is adding sprinkles to the cake! I haven't had Detroit-style pizza before and I wanted to check it out so I found this place near me and I'm glad I did. I had the Santiglia and my son had the classic. Both were really good. It's a very small (3 or 4 tables) casual place and it seems like they get a lot of takeout orders but we dined in. The staff people I've dealt with both times were both very nice. Yesterday was my first visit to Fuji & Vi's. Actually, six months ago I went to Fuji & Vi's but they were closed. They normally would be open but for very personal reasons they were closed. So yesterday I went back and they were open. It took a while to return because I was busy and put this on the back burner. Read my review and see why I am so glad I went yesterday. First off, parking is on the roof. There is a parking lot on the top which is nice. Fuji & Vi's is also on the top so accessing the restaurant is easy. You can also do street parking if you prefer then take the elevator or walk up the stairs to get to the restaurant. When I arrived, I was greeted at the counter by a very pleasant Japanese woman who happens to be the owner. She took my order. I ordered the 4 piece w/ pepperoni and sausage. They take about 15 minutes to make, so 15 minutes later I received my pizza. I am a pizza guy, I love Detroit and NY Pizza as well as an occasional Chicago pizza. I also make pizza, NY and Detroit. I make NY much more than Detroit, but occasionally I make Detroit pizza. I have to say that this Detroit Pizza at Fuji & Vi's is excellent. The first bite was pure Heaven. Everything about it is perfection. The taste, the texture, the thickness of the dough, quality of ingredients. The sauce is excellent. The cheese they use is perfect. I don't know if they use Brick cheese like they do in Detroit since it is hard to get out west, but whatever they use is perfect for this pizza. The dough is light and airy with just the right amount of percentage of oil in it. It's not always easy to get a Detroit crust so perfect. I know since I make Detroit pizza now and then. I ate 3 of 4 pieces until I was full, then I brought the 4th piece home. So why do I eat pizza out if I make pizza? Because I don't always have the time and motivation to make pizza. It takes a lot of prep and work and time. I will continue to make NY style pizza but for Detroit I will leave it to Fuji & Vi's rather than spend the time and effort to make my own. This definitely will be my go-to place for Detroit pizza. I also had the pleasure of talking with the owner. Katsume is the name of the owner if I recall. She is a very delightful person. To be quite honest, she is a very loveable person. Talking with her and learning about the history of the restaurant was interesting and enjoyable. Her husband who started the restaurant with her passed away six months ago. My heart goes out to Katsume and all his family and friends. I would have loved to meet him and talk "pizza" with him. Katsume of course knows a lot about pizza since she owns the business and started it with her husband, so we talked "shop". Her husband was from Detroit so he definitely knew what makes a good Detroit pizza. Talking with Katsume really added to the experience and made my day. Not only is the pizza excellent, getting to know the owner Katsume made the experience complete. I left the restaurant very happy because the food was excellent and satisfying and Katsume is so pleasant. I highly recommend Fuji & Vi's. You will love this place if you are in search of Detroit pizza. If you never had Detroit pizza, I suggest you visit this restaurant and try it out. You will be hooked on it your first bite. I love NY style pizza, but society is overly saturated by NY pizza places, but Detroit is not common at all. I'm glad the restaurant exists. Do yourself a favor and visit Fuji & Vi's. I am going back again to get Detroit pizza as a return customer and a regular. I'm not as familiar with Detroit style pizza but I've trying it at other places. The restaurant is located on Colorado near the South Lake area of Pasadena and easy to find. We got the double pepperoni, BBQ chicken and do it yourself with sausage and mushroom. The sauce is good, hearty and chunky, The BBQ chicken was really good and now I'm tempted to try the Argument pizza (ham and pineapple . Well, it wasn't just good...it was GREAT! This is a true mom and pop shop! It's run by a Japanese husband and wife who lived in Detroit and learned how to make Detroit-style pizza. They are super nice! In any case, first time I came here was to actually dine in. Ordered the Biggio and it came out piping hot! Great Detroit-style pizza looks heavy, but is actually very light. And this was exactly that! Amazing sauce and flavorful toppings, couldn't have asked for more. If you do want to dine in here, there are three tables that can sit up to four people. It's quite small for sure! Parking is in the back and is free, which is nice considering it is Pasadena. Since my initial visit, I've also tried the Super Deluxe. It's also really good! I found out about Fuji and VI's when their Detroit-style pizza appeared on the top 100 list for best pizza places in the world. They're located on Colorado Boulevard in Pasadena, about a 20-mile drive from me. I waited 45 minutes for them to open at 11:30 AM, but it was worth it. Pasadena can get very busy and parking can be tricky, so I wanted to get there early. This was my first time trying the place out, and they're located on the second level, which can be hard to spot from the street. However, there's parking in the rear. Everything about this place is worth it! I ordered an eight-square pizza with a half-margarita, half-Biggio topping. The people were very friendly, which I appreciate and love. But the best part was the pizza! I took my two doggies with me, so we took the pizza to go. The place is small with about three tables. When I got to my truck, I wanted to taste the pizza while it was hot, so I decided to have a bite. I gotta tell you, from the first bite, that square of pizza never had a chance! It was so delicious, cheesy, and meaty--awesome! I licked my fingers after as well. There are other places that make a Detroit-style pizza, but I'll be going to Fuji and VI's for some time to come. When I lived in Detroit about 40 years ago, my favorite place was Buddy's pizza. I would always go when I visited Detroit, and sometimes relatives and friends would send me a couple of pies. Buddy's also used to deliver frozen pizzas to you in the mail. It's been years since then, and Detroit-style pizza has been popping up in various places. I've even seen a Detroit-style pizza at Costco. If you're a pizza lover, especially a Detroit-style pizza lover, then Fuji and VI's Detroit-style pizza is the place to go! It's very cheesy and I love how the edges are so crusty. The dough is a softer consistency rather than the foccacia like consistency I've had from the other 2 Detroit style pizzeria I've tried. I wish they'd put more pepperoni on the pizza though. Prices were reasonable. It was $20.50 plus tax for the 8 square pepperoni pizza. I'd definitely return here to try their other flavors, such as the bbq chicken pizza. The restaurant is tiny and is on a 2nd floor of an outdoor shopping plaza. This is one of my favorite pizza places now. The photo gallery in their website totally does the pizza justice. It is as good as it photographs! I never had Detroit-style pizza. I don't take part in the Great Pizza Debate with regional styles vying for Best Pizza Ever. Pizza is either good or it's average. The flavors and textures between cheese, crust and sauce are either balanced and each component delicious, or the magic just doesn't happen. Whenever I try thick, rectangular pizza slices I'm always disappointed in either sauce, cheese, or crust. I always hoped that pizza would taste like these slices. This pizza is the paradigm of what a thick square slice of pizza should be-- a sauce that is deliciously balanced between sweet, tangy, and savory-- the perfect intermediary between cheese and carbs. Speaking of carbs, a nice thick crust, just doughy enough to feel your teeth sink into, but with the edges perfectly carmelized to support the slice as it makes its way to your pizza pie-hole. The cheese was-- well, cheese, but cheese that goes all the way to the edge of the crust, caramelized to a deep golden brown against the pie pan. On this maiden visit, we tried both the Margherita and the Biggio. The Biggio is their version of a meat lover's pizza-- pepperoni, Italian sausage, ham, and bacon. The ham and bacon, however, lent a smoky flavor -- almost too barbecue-ish -- for a non-bbq pizza. I know this is Detroit pizza but it was almost a little too un-Italian to us. The Margherita pizza, on the other hand, was crave-worthy. The cheese, sauce, and crust converged into a balance of flavor -- sweet, savory, and tangy, as well as texture -- doughy, crispy, the cheesy stretchiness, the caramelized edges.... I thought this slice was pizza, pure and simple, delicious in its simplicity. Even the tomato slices seemed to be cut the right thickness. I got ours to-go and tried calling ahead-- several times. No go, so I had to order when I got there. The pizzaria (suite #203) lives on the second floor of a two story mini-mall, overlooking the street-side dining lanes on Colorado. The parking lot is also on the second floor which is convenient, the entrance of which is on Mentor, just south of Colorado. Our order took 20 minutes to prepare-- well worth the wait. We also ordered a Caesar salad. Their Caesar was a mix of iceberg and romaine and was fine. Just know that their Caesar salads are tossed-- a dealbreaker for some if you're not into lifeless salads. Just remember this if you're ordering to-go and have to drive a ways before digging in. There is no soda fountain in the restaurant. Beverages are canned. After trying their pizza I appreciate this. I also liked how their menu is simple-- there are just two salads offered and most importantly their pizza, but really, their pizza is all you'll really need. Quite the generous size for the 8 slice, though I thought they'd be a little more generous with the toppings when ordering a double pepperoni -- this was a little shy (see pic) I'd give this a solid 4.5 stars. Crust is crispy, nice caramel cheese lace climbing the sides, spongey and doughy crust base to it. Tomato sauce had an earthy herby flavor, but still worked.
